Prevalence and impact of diabetes in patients with COVID-19 in China

To the Editor:The colorectal cancer(CRC)is the fourthmost common cause of cancer deaths in China that was treated as a public health threat,accounting for approximately 10%of all the cancer-caused mortalities each year.[1]It usually takes decades to develop from a polyp to full CRC,[2]which allows a time window for detecting precancerous lesions and taking early steps for preventions and treatments.

INTRAMUSCULAR VERSUS INTRADERMAL HEPATITIS B REVACCINATIONIN HEALTHY NON-RESPONDER CHILDREN: A 5-YEAR PROSPECTIVE RANDOMIZED STUDY

Objective With the same times of injection to compare low-dose intradermal regimen with routine-dose intramuscular inoculation in revaccination of non-responders to hepatitis B vaccine. Methods 40 healthy non-responder children collected by screening were administrated a three-dose revaccination randomly by intramuscular or intradermal route (10vs 2g per dose), and regularly tested for serologic markers up to five years. By the end of follow-up, a booster dose (5μg) was given to those who had lost anti-HBs of ≥10mIU/mL (seroprotection) and anamnestic response was estimated thereafter. Results All 17 intramuscular and 22 of 23 intradermal children effected seroprotection after revaccination. Intradermal children lost seroprotection over time significantly rapider compared with intramuscular children (Log Rank test, P= 0.029). In year 5, 50% of intramuscular but only 18.2% of intradermal children still maintained seroprotection (P=0.075). 12-14 days after the booster dose, all the eight intramuscular children developed an anamnestic response with anti-HBs titer increasing greater, but two of the 18 intradermal children failed to mount seroprotective level. Conclusion Three-routine-dose intramuscular revaccination was significantly effective than low-dose intradermal one with the same times of injection, especially in long-term immunity. We recommend routine-dose intramuscular protocol in revaccination of non-responders.

Abnormal phospholipid metabolism in the brain plays an important role in neuropsychiatric *** A2(PLA2)is a crucial element for normal neuro-physiological *** study aims to investi-gate the genetic association between the polymorphism of cytosolic phospholipase A2(cPLA2)family genes and schizophrenia among Han Chinese in the northern part of *** polymerase chain reaction-based ligase detec-tion reaction(PCR-LDR)was applied to detect the genotype ten single nucleotide polymorphisms(SNPs)of cPLA2 family genes among 201 pedigrees consisting of fathers,mothers and affected offsprings with *** pedigrees were collected from 2000 to *** relative risk(HRR)test,transmission disequili-brium test(TDT),haplotype transmission analysis and multiple locus analysis were conducted to analyze the genotyping *** genotypic frequency of cPLA2 gene did not deviate from Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium either in case or control *** and TDT showed that the ten SNPs were not associated with schizophrenia(P>0.05).Analysis for haplotype transmission showed that no haplotype system was associated with schizophrenia(P>0.05).The conditioning on allele(COA)and conditioning on gene(COG)tests showed disease associations with the haplotype of rs2162886-rs1668589,rs891014-rs1668589 and rs2307279-rs7542180(χ2=6.913,P=0.032;χ2=8.393,P=0.015;χ2=8.447,P=0.038).Our data suggest that many loci in the cPLA2 family genes may be associated with schizophrenia.

OBJECTIVE:To evaluate the efficacy and safety of Zhumian Tang formula granules(助眠汤配方颗粒)combined with eszopiclone for treating poor sleep ***:This multi-center,dynamic blockrandomized,parallel-group superiority clinical trial included 130 *** combined treatment group received Zhumian Tang formula granules combined with eszopiclone treatment,and the control group received eszopiclone treatment *** group allocation ratio was 1∶*** duration of treatment was 2 *** were asked to complete questionnaires before treatment,after 1 week of the intervention,after 2 weeks of the intervention,and at the follow-up on week *** primary outcomes were the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index(PSQI)score and the total effective rate of *** secondary outcome was the rate of adverse ***:Compared with the eszopiclone treatment group,the PSQI score of the combined treatment group was significantly lower after 2 weeks of the intervention(6.98 vs 8.26,P<0.05).However,there was no significant difference in the mean PSQI score after 1 week of the intervention(9.89 vs 9.15,P=0.124).After the follow-up on week 3,the PSQI score of the combined treatment group remained significantly lower than that of the eszopiclone treatment group(6.12 vs 8.31,P<0.001).The total effective rates of treatment of the combined group and the eszopiclone group were 36.92%vs 35.38%(Z=0.033,P=0.855)after 1 week of the intervention,83.08%vs 58.46%(Z=9.519,P<0.05)after 2 weeks of the intervention,and 83.08%vs 61.54%(Z=7.530,P<0.05)and after the follow-up on week 3,*** was no significant difference in the overall rate of adverse reactions between the combined and eszopiclone treatment groups(21.53%vs 31.8%,P=0.318).CONCLUSION:The combination of Zhumian Tang formula granules with eszopiclone was found to be safe and more effective in improving sleep quality than eszopiclone *** Chinese medicine can enhance the effectiveness of Western m

Effects of population aging on the mortality burden of related cancers in urban and rural areas of China, 2004–2017: a population-based study

Objective:China is a developing country with urban–rural disparities and accelerating population ***,quantifying the effects of population aging on the cancer mortality burden is urgently ***:Using data from China’s death surveillance datasets(2004–2017),we decomposed and quantified the effects of population aging and factor variations on cancer mortality rates in urban and rural China during 2004–2017 through a decomposition method.R ratios were used to assess the extent of the mortality decreases attributable to factor variations offsetting the increases attributable to population aging for 4 aging-related cancers(lung,colorectal,esophageal,and stomach cancer).Results:Overall,population aging has led to continued increases in cancer mortality rates in China during 2004–2017(mortality rates attributable to population aging:8.63/100,000 for urban men,4.21/100,000 for urban women,11.95/100,000 for rural men,and 5.66/100,000 for rural women).The 4 cancers displayed 3 *** mortality rates from lung cancer in rural China and from colorectal cancer nationwide increased because of both population aging and factor *** aging was primarily responsible for the growing mortality due to lung cancer in urban ***,for esophageal and stomach cancer,the effect of population aging was not dominant,thus resulting in decreases in mortality ***:Health resource allocation should prioritize areas or cancers more adversely affected by population *** burden of cancer will continue to increase in the future,because of rapid population aging,but can still be offset or even reversed with enhanced cancer control and prevention.

A growing number of studies associated increased mortality with exposures to specific fine particulate(PM_(2.5))constituents,while great heterogeneity exists between *** China,evidence linking PM_(2.5)constituents and mortality was extensively *** study primarily aimed to quantify short-term associations between PM_(2.5)constituents and non-accidental mortality among the Chinese *** collected daily mortality records from 32 counties in China between January 1,2011,and December 31,*** concentrations of main PM_(2.5)constituents(organic carbon(OC),elemental carbon(EC),nitrate(NO_(3)^(-)),sulfate(SO_(4)^(2−)),and ammonium(NH_(4)^(+)))were estimated using the modified Community Multiscale Air Quality ***-stratified case-crossover design with conditional logistic regression models was adopted to estimate mortality risks associated with short-term exposures to PM_(2.5)mass and its *** analyses were done by sex,age,and season.A total of 116,959 non-accidental deaths were ***_(2.5)concentrations on the day of death were averaged at 75.7μg m^(−3)(control day:75.6μg m^(−3)),with an interquartile range(IQR)of 65.2μg m^(−3).Per IQR rise in PM_(2.5),EC,OC,NO_(3)^(-),SO_(4)^(2−),and NH_(4)^(+)at lag-04 day was associated with an increase in non-accidental mortality of 2.4%(95%confidence interval,(1.0–3.7),1.7%(0.8–2.7),2.9%(1.6–4.3),2.1%(0.4–3.9),1.0%(0.2–1.9),and 1.6%(0.3–2.9),*** PM_(2.5)mass and its constituents were strongly associated with elevated cardiovascular mortality risks,but only PM_(2.5),EC,and OC were positively associated with respiratory mortality at lag-3 ***_(2.5)mass and its constituents associated effects on mortality varied among sex-and age-specific *** in the seasonal pattern of associations exist among PM_(2.5)constituents,with stronger effects related to EC and NO_(3)^(-)in warm months but SO_(4)^(2−)and NH_(4)^(+)in cold ***-term

The Association between Exposure to Second-Hand Smoke and Disease in the Chinese Population: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

Objective To analyze the association between exposure to second-hand smoke(SHS) and 23 diseases,categorized into four classifications, among the Chinese *** We searched the literature up to June 30, 2021, and eligible studies were identified according to the PECOS format: Participants and Competitors(Chinese population), Exposure(SHS),Outcomes(Disease or Death), and Study design(Case-control or Cohort).Results In total, 53 studies were selected. The odds ratio(OR) for all types of cancer was 1.79(1.56–2.05), and for individual cancers was 1.92(1.42–2.59) for lung cancer, 1.57(1.40–1.76) for breast cancer, 1.52(1.12–2.05) for bladder cancer, and 1.37(1.08–1.73) for liver cancer. The OR for circulatory system diseases was 1.92(1.29–2.85), with a value of 2.29(1.26–4.159) for stroke. The OR of respiratory system diseases was 1.76(1.13–2.74), with a value of 1.82(1.07–3.11) for childhood asthma. The original ORs were also shown for other diseases. Subgroup analyses were performed for lung and breast cancer. The ORs varied according to time period and were significant during exposure in the household;For lung cancer, the OR was significant in *** The effect of SHS exposure in China was similar to that in Western countries, but its definition and characterization require further clarification. Lung Cancer Risk Attributable to Active Smoking in China:A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
