Cuprous oxide （Cu2O） thin films have been grown by electrodeposition technique onto ITO-coated glass substrates from aqueous copper acetate solutions with addition of sodium thiosulfate at 60 ℃ The effects of sodium thiosulfate on the electrochemical deposition of Cu2O films were investigated by cyclic voltammetry and chronoamperometry techniques. deposited films were obtained at - 0.58 V vs. SCE and characterized by X-ray diffraction （XRD）, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy （FrIR）, scanning electron microscopy （SEM）, and optical, photoelectrochemical and electrical measurements. X-ray diffraction results indicated that the synthesized Cu2O films had a pure cubic phase with a marked preferential orientation peak along （200） plane and with lattice constants a = b = c = 0.425 rim. FFIR results confirmed the presence of Cu2O films at peak 634 cm 1. SEM images of Cu2O films showed a better compactness and spherical-shaped composition. Optical properties of Cu2O films reveal a high optical transmission （〉80%） and high absorption coefficient （α 〉 104 cm- 1 ） in visiblelight region. The optical energy band gap was found to be 2.103 eV. Photoelectrochemical measurements indicated that Cu2O films had n-type semiconductor conduction, which confirmed by Hall Effect measurements. Electrical properties of Cu2O films showed a low electrical resistivity of 61.30 Ω. cm-1, carrier concentration of-4.94×1015cm -3andmobility of20.61cm2.V 1,*** Cu2O thin films with suitable properties are promising semiconductor material for fabrication of photovoltaic solar cells,

Impact of zinc and arginine on antioxidant status of weanling piglets raised under commercial conditions

Influence of nitrogen sources on growth and mycotoxin production by isolates of Pyrenophora tritici-repentis from wheat

The fungus Pyrenophora tritici-repentis(Died.) Drechs. infects the leaves and kernels of wheat,causing tan spot and red smudge, respectively. Isolates of P. tritici-repentis have been reported to be both phytopathogenic and mycotoxigenic. This research investigates the influence of nitrogen sources on growth and production of mycotoxins by eight different isolates of P. tritici-repentis. A synthetic agar medium(SAM) was used with different nitrogen sources, both inorganic [(NH4Cl, NH4NO3and(NH4)2SO4)] and organic(L-alanine, L-histidine, and L-lysine), at a concentration of 37.5 mmol L-1. Individual isolates exhibited different growth rates that varied according to the nitrogen source added to the medium. The choice of nitrogen source also had a major effect on production of the mycotoxins emodin, catenarin and islandicin. The highest concentrations of emodin, 54.40 ± 4.46 μg g-1, 43.07 ± 23.39 μg g-1and28.91 ± 4.64 μg g-1of growth medium, were produced on the complex medium(V8-potato dextrose agar) by the isolates Alg-H2, 331-2 and TS93-71 B, respectively. A relatively high concentration of emodin also was produced by isolates Az35-5(28.29 ± 4.71 μg g-1of medium)and TS93-71B(27.03 ± 4.09 μg g-1of medium) on synthetic medium supplemented with L-alanine. The highest concentrations of catenarin(174.54 ± 14.46 μg g-1and 104.87 ±6.13 μg g-1of medium) were recorded for isolates TS93-71 B and Alg-H2 on synthetic medium supplemented with L-alanine and NH4 Cl, respectively. The highest concentration of islandicin(4.64 ± 0.36 μg g-1medium) was observed for isolate 331-2 in the presence of L-lysine. There was not a close relationship between mycelial growth and mycotoxin production by the fungal isolates. This is the first report on the influence of nitrogen sources on the production of mycotoxins by P. tritici-repentis.

Refuge size variation and potential for sperm competition in Wellington tree weta

Ecological variation in resources can in flue nee the distributi on and en counter rates of potential mates and competitors and, con sequently, the opport unity for sexual selection. Factors that influence the likelihood that females mate multiply could also affect the potential for sperm competition. In Wellington tree weta (Hemideina crassidens, plural "weta"), the size of tree cavities (called galleries) used as refuges affects weta distribution and thus the opport unity for sexual selection and selection on male weaponry size. We examined the predicted effects of gallery size and male weap onry size on the potential for sperm competition. We asked if gallery size in flue need the potential for multiple mating by females and potential for sperm competition, if male weaponry size was associated with relative expected sperm competition intensity (SCI), and if estimated male mating success was correlated with pote ntial SCI. To qua ntify relative competitive envir on merits of males, we created and analyzed networks of potential competitors based on which males could have mated with the same females. We found that small galleries had higher potential for female multiple mating and higher potential for sperm competition. Size of male weaponry was not associated with expected relative SCI. Regardless of gallery size, males with more potential mates were expected to face lower expected relative sperm competition. Thus, in this system, variation in the size of available refuges is likely to in flue nee the pote ntial for sperm competiti on, in a way that we might expect to in crease variation in overall reproductive success.

The effects of interfacial strength on fractured microcapsule

The effects of interfacial strength on fractured microcapsule are investigated numerically. The interaction between crack and microcapsule embedded in mortar matrix is modeled based on cohesive approach. The microcapsules are modelled with variation of core-shell thickness ratio and potential cracks are represented by pre-inserted cohesive elements along the element boundaries of the mortar matrix, microcapsules core, microcapsule shell, and at the interfaces between these phases. Special attention is given to the effects of cohesive fracture on the microcapsule interface, namely fracture strength, on the load carrying capacity and fracture probability of the microcapsule. The effect of fracture properties on microcapsule is found to be significant factor on the load carrying capacity and crack propagation characteristics. Regardless of core-shell thickness ratio of microcapsule, the load carrying capacity of self-healing material under tension increases as interfacial strength of microcapsule shell increases. In addition, given the fixed fracture strength of the interface of microcapsule shell, the higher the ratio core-shell thickness, the higher the probability of microcapsules being fractured.

Pure forsterite in Nyiragongo lavas: evidence for subsolidus oxidation of volcanic rocks

Some volcanic rocks from Nyiragongo volcano in the democratic Republic of Congo contain highly oxidized olivine *** olivines crystals are made of two phases,dark olivine on backscattered electron images of pure forsterite composition and grey Mg-poor areas made of olivine and iron-rich *** of the initial composition confirms that they are primary olivine with late separation of two different olivine *** forsterite is enriched in SiO_(2) but contains lower amounts of CaO than Fe-rich areas,in agreement with expected partitioning of these elements related to the composition of the ***-rich oxides formed around or inside the olivine crystals during the separation process and confirm a highly oxidized environment during their *** propose that this separation occurred during subsolidus recrystallization under high fO_(2) conditions of the olivine crystals after cooling of the volcanic *** provides evidences for circulation of iron-rich fluids or gas inducing deuteritic processes occurring in the large volcanic cone of the Nyiragongo,in relation with the presence of a shallow magma chamber connected to a large and permanent lava lake.

Bioko Island（3008 m a.s.l） is located in the presently more active volcanic zone of the Cameroon Line and composed essentially of alkaline basalts and hawaiites, and lesser mugearites. The rocks show microlitic porphyritic texture with phenocrysts of olivine（83% 〈 Fo 〈 87%） and clinopyroxene in a matrix of plagioclase, clinopyroxene and oxides. Hawaiites and mugearites also include phenocrysts of plagioclase（An62-67Ab35-32Or3-1）. Major element variation diagrams show an increase in Si O2, Al2O3, Na2 O and K2 O with increasing Mg O for the studied rock groups. The rocks are characterized by low（^86Sr/^87Sr）i ratios（0.70320e0.70406）, high 3Nd（t） values（2.56e4.33） and high（^206Pb/^204Pb）i ratios（20.032e20.035） *** are enriched in LILE and LREE, and have（Hf/Sm）N= 0.57e1.16. These geochemical signatures are similar to those of the Mount Cameroon rocks, and might be attributed to low degrees of partial melting from a garnet-amphibole-bearing mantle source. The trace elements and isotopic compositions suggest that the parental magma source might have involved HIMU- and EM1-components.
