Bifunctional oxygen electrode cobalt–nickel sulfides catalysts originated from intercalated LDH precursors

Bimetallic cobalt-nickel sulfide nanoparticles anchored on S-,N-codoped holey carbon nanosheets(CoNiS-T@NCFs)with a hydrangea-like morphology,were synthesized via a confinement synthesis route,in which an intercalated LDH precursor was subjected to the interlayer-confined carbonization and host-layer sulfurization.The phase transformation and structure evolution(e.g.,atom site occupancy,crystallite size,and cell volume)of the CoNi-S-T@NCFs electrocatalysts,as a function of sulfurization temperatures,were confirmed by X-ray diffraction and Rietveld analyses.The sulfur vacancies effectively enhance the electrocatalytic activity,while the synergistic effect of(Co,Ni)7 S8 alloy and S,N-codoped carbon matrix facilitates the electron transfer and accelerates reaction kinetics,making CoNi-S-900@NCFs an efficient and stable bifunctional electrocatalyst for oxygen reduction reaction(ORR).The rich highvalence Co(Ⅲ)and Ni(Ⅲ)of CoNi-S-900@NCFs facilitates the in-situ transformation of the metal(oxy)hydroxides intermediates with high catalytic activity for oxygen evolution reaction(OER).Thus,with a bifunctional parameter,ΔE,of 0.75 V(E_(j=10,OER)-E_(1/2,ORR)),this electrocatalyst slightly outperforms the state-of-the-art commercial Pt/C+RuO_(2)/C catalyst(ΔE=0.76 V)in alkaline medium.This work demonstrates the influence that the sulfurization temperature has on the relationship between the structure and electrocatalytic performance of bimetallic sulfides prepared by the synthesis strategy using the intercalated LDH precursor.This strategy can be extended to prepare other chalcogenides with binary or ternary transition metals.

CeO_(2)decorated CoOx rod-like hybrid,supported onto holey reduced graphene(CoOx/CeO_(2)/RGO)composite,was fabricated via a surfactant-assisted route.Its corresponding electrocatalytic performance towards oxygen reduction/evolution reactions(ORR and OER)was systematically investigated in alkaline electrolyte.Structural,morphological and compositional studies revealed changes in electronic and surface properties when CeO_(2)was introduced as an oxygen buffer material.The oxygen vacancies effectively enhanced the electrocatalytic activity,while the synergistic effect of co-catalyst CeO_(2),CoOx activecenters,and defective graphene with many voids facilitate the charge/mass transfer,making CoOx/CeO_(2)/RGO an efficient and stable bifunctional electrocatalyst for OER/ORR with△E=0.76 V(△E=E10mAcm.-2OER-E_(1/2).ORR).This parameter is 70 mV and 270 mV lower than CoOx/RGO and the benchmark Pt/C,respectively.In addition,the OER/ORR bifunctionality of CoOx/CeO_(2)/RGO composite outperforms that of Pt/C catalyst in a H2-O_(2)micro fuel cell platform.

Environmental drivers of long-term variations in the abundance of the red hocicudo mouse (Oxymycterus rufus) in Pampas agroecosystems

During the 20th century,there has been an ongoing agricultural expansion and global warming,two of the main determinants influencing biodiversity changes in Argentina.The red hocicudo mouse(Oxymycterus rufus)inhabits subtropical grasslands and riparian habitats and has increased its abundance in recent years in central Argentina agroecosystems.This paper describes the long-term temporal changes in O.rufus abundance in Exaltación de la Cruz department,Buenos Aires province,Argentina,in relation to weatherfluctuations and landscape features,as well as analyzes the spatio-temporal structure of captures of animals.We used generalized liner models,semi-variograms,the Mantel test,and autocorrelation functions for the analysis of rodent data obtained from trappings conducted between 1984 and 2014.O.rufus showed an increase in abundance across the years of study,with its distribution depending on landscape features,such as habitat types and the distance tofloodplains.Capture rates showed a spatio-temporal aggregation,suggesting expansion from previously occupied sites.O.rufus was more abundant at lower minimum temperatures in summer,higher precipitation in spring and summer,and lower precip-itations in winter.Weather conditions affected O.rufus abundance,but there was local variation that differed from global patterns of climate change.

本文在刚性旋转输运速度场的特殊情况下,建立了二维平流扩散方程的积分光滑粒子流体动力学(SPH)解的收敛性.考虑了Morris等人对拉普拉斯算子的近似,在傅里叶空间中建立了SPH解与精确解的收敛性.证明了如果满足核的傅里叶变换的某个条件,即我们称之为正条件,则收敛是有保证的.这个条件是核的傅里叶变换其径向轮廓的一阶矩为正,并通过数值验证说明了分析结果.根据L2范数和最大范数,比较了使用不同核包括SPH社区更常用的核(即Wendland核以及三次和线性样条核)获得的数值解.除此之外,提出并测试了一个病理核,该核不满足正条件,导致了非收敛结果.这一事实表明,在对流扩散方程的情况下,正条件不仅是收敛的充分条件,也是必要条件.

Calcitriol induces post-thawed bovine sperm capacitation

Background:Capacitation is a set of physiological changes sperms undergo to acquire fertilizing capacity.In vivo,this process is directly associated with high calcium levels in sperm cytoplasm.Calcitriol,the vitamin D hypercalcemic metabolite,is related to human sperm motility,capacitation,and acrosome reaction.This work aimed to study the effect of calcitriol on bull sperm quality parameters and capacitation.Methods:One million freezethawed spermatozoa were obtained from different bulls and treated with 20 nM of calcitriol for 30 min.Untreated cells(negative control)and treated ones with calcitriol or heparin(100μg/mL,positive capacitation control)were evaluated for motility,viability,and functional parameters.Menadione(70μM,30 min)treatment was included as a reactive oxygen species(ROS)positive sperm agent.Results:The results elucidated that sperm exposed to 20 nM calcitriol showed higher viability,vigor,and capacitation than their positive and negative controls.The percentage of sperm with intact plasma and acrosome membranes,mitochondrial membrane potential(ΔΨm),and phosphatidylserine externalization was similar in all the conditions evaluated,while ROS production was higher with heparin and menadione-treated groups than the calcitriol group or negative control.Conclusion:Our results indicate that calcitriol induces the capacitation of thawed bull spermatozoa and maintains acceptable values of progressive motility,viability,and vigor without altering key biological parameters such as redox status,ΔΨm,and cell death.

Successful treatment with hysteroscopy for infertility due to isthmocele and hydrometra secondary to cesarean section: A case report

BACKGROUND An isthmocele is a scar defect in the uterine wall due to a cesarean section. Its prevalence is unknown,but it has been associated with secondary infertility.Here,we present a case where the patient suffered from an isthmocele that was associated with persistent hydrometra,which developed during in vitro fertilization.CASE SUMMARy The patient underwent hysteroscopic surgery,which successfully resolved the isthmocele as well as the hydrometra. Afterward,two high-quality,euploid embryos,determined by morphological assessment and pre-implantation genetic diagnostic testing,were transferred. This resulted in uterine pregnancy,as determined byserum β-human chorionic gonadotropin levels on day 14(180 m U/mL) and ultrasound-confirmed presence of a gestational sac with a positive embryocardia at week 6. The pregnancy reached 36 wk without any complications,and the product was born in good health. We report a successful isthmocele treatment in a patient with secondary infertility,in which the isthmocele was the cause of persistent hydrometra.CONCLUSION Hydrometra caused by secondary cesarean is an infertility factor,which can be corrected by hysteroscopy plus ablation of the isthmocele.

Pupal emergence pattern in cactophilic Drosophila and the effect of host plants

Drosophila buzzatii and D.koepferae are sibling cactophilie species.The former breeds primarily on prickly pears (genus Opuntia)whereas the latter breeds on columnar cacti of the genera Cereus and Trichocereus,although with certain degree of niche overlapping.We examined the interspecific differences in diurnal temporal patterns of adult emergence from puparia and evaluated whether this behavior is affected by rearing in the different cactus hosts available in nature.We detected important host-dependent genetic variation for this trait differentially affecting the emergence schedule of these species.Diumal pattern of emergence time was directly correlated with developmental time and negatively correlated with adult wing size,suggesting that early emergences are at least indirectly correlated with increased fitness.We discussed our results in terms of their putative effects on fitness and the genetic-metabolic pathways that would be presumably affected by host's nutritional-chemical differences.

The detrimental effects of lipopolysaccharideinduced neuroinflammation on adult hippocampal neurogenesis depend on the duration of the pro-inflammatory response

Adult hippocampal neurogenesis is a finely tuned process regulated by extrinsic factors. Neuroinflammation is a hallmark of several pathological conditions underlying dysregulation of neurogenesis. In animal models, lipopolysaccharide(LPS)-induced neuroinflammation leads to a neurogenic decrease mainly associated to the early inflammatory response. However, it is not well understood how the neuroinflammatory response progresses over time and if neurogenesis continues to be diminished during the late neuroinflammatory response. Moreover, it is unknown if repeated intermittent administration of LPS along time induces a greater reduction in neurogenesis. We administered one single intraperitoneal injection of LPS or saline or four repeated injections(one per week) of LPS or saline to young-adult mice. A cohort of new cells was labeled with three 5-bromo-2-deoxyuridine injections(one per day) 4 days after the last LPS injection. We evaluated systemic and neuroinflammation-associated parameters and compared the effects of the late neuroinflammatory response on neurogenesis induced by each protocol. Our results show that 1) a single LPS injection leads to a late pro-inflammatory response characterized by microglial activation, moderate astrocytic reaction and increased interleukin-6 levels. This response correlates in time with decreased neurogenesis and 2) a repeated intermittent injection of LPS does not elicit a late pro-inflammatory response although activated microglia persists. The latter profile is not accompanied by a continued longterm hippocampal neurogenic decrease. Hereby, we provide evidence that the neuroinflammatory response is a dynamic process that progresses in a milieu-dependent manner and does not necessarily lead to a neurogenic decrease, highlighting the complex interaction between the immune system and neurogenesis.

Palm oil biodiesel:An assessment of PAH emissions,oxidative potential and ecotoxicity of particulate matter

This work assessed the impact of fuelling an automotive engine with palm biodiesel(pure,and two blends of 10%and 20%with diesel,B100,B10 and B20,respectively)operating under representative urban driving conditions on 17 priority polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon(PAH)compounds,oxidative potential of ascorbic acid(OP^(AA)),and ecotoxicity through D aphnia pulex mortality test.PM diluted with filtered fresh air(WD)gathered in a minitunel,and particulate matter(PM)collected directly from the exhaust gas stream(W/oD)were used for comparison.Results showed that PM collecting method significantly impact PAH concentration.Although all PAH appeared in both,WD and W/oD,higher concentrations were obtained in the last case.Increasing biodiesel concentration in the fuel blend decreased all PAH compounds,and those with 3 and 5 aromatic rings were the most abundant.Palm biodiesel affected both OP^(AA)and ecotoxicity.While B10 and B20 exhibited the same rate of ascorbic acid(AA)depletion,B100 showed significant faster oxidation rate during the first four minutes and oxidized 10%more AA at the end of the test.B100 and B20 were significantly more ecotoxic than B10.The lethal concentration LC50 for B10 was 6.13 mg/L.It was concluded that palm biodiesel decreased PAH compounds,but increased the oxidative potential and ecotoxicity.

The largest dengue outbreak in Argentina and spatial analyses of dengue cases in relation to a control program in a district with sylvan and urban environments

Objective: To analyze the largest outbreak of dengue in Argentina in the municipality of Tigre during 2016, through detailed spatial analyses of the occurrence of cases in relation to demographic factors and vector control actions. Methods: detailed and georreferenced data on dengue cases with laboratory results(NS1 or IgM) were analyzed. The occurrences of imported and autochthonous cases by census tract were modeled using demographic variables(population by age class, proportion of foreigners, proportion with university grade, proportion of males), dwelling variables(number of homes, proportion of dwellings with latrine, number of dwellings, proportion of houses, proportion of flats, proportion of slums) and census tract area as explanatory variables. The probability of occurrence of autochthonous and imported cases was modeled separately. The spatio-temporal occurrence of cases was studied in relation to focal and perifocal control actions(involving education campaigns, removal of Aedes aegypti breeding sites and exhaustive insecticide spraying) to assess the efficiency in stopping autochthonous cases spreading. Results: All autochthonous cases occurred in the urban environment with no sylvan cases. The majority of the imported cases registered came from Paraguay and Northeastern Argentina. The age structure of imported and autochthonous cases did not differ from the age structure of the municipality, while that of the negative cases did.When studied spatially, the occurrence of imported cases by census tract was mildly associated with a higher proportion of foreign population and more people at active age, while occurrence of autochthonous cases was not significantly associated with any of the studied variables.For census tracts with laboratory confirmed results, the models showed higher probability of autochthonous cases related to higher population density and population age structure.
