Neurogenic potential of NG2 in neurotrauma:a systematic review

Regenerative approaches towards neuronal loss following traumatic brain or spinal cord injury have long been considered a dogma in neuroscience and remain a cutting-edge area of *** is reflected in a large disparity between the number of studies investigating primary and secondary injury as therapeutic to rgets in spinal co rd and traumatic brain *** advances in biotechnology may have the potential to reshape the current state-of-the-art and bring focus to primary injury neurotrauma *** studies using neural-glial factor/antigen 2(NG2)cells indicate that they may differentiate into neurons even in the developed *** these cells show great potential to play a regenerative role,studies have been conducted to test various manipulations in neurotrauma models aimed at eliciting a neurogenic response from *** the present study,we systematically reviewed the experimental protocols and findings described in the scientific literature,which were peer-reviewed original research articles(1)describing preclinical experimental studies,(2)investigating NG2 cells,(3)associated with neurogenesis and neurotrauma,and(4)in vitro and/or in vivo,available in PubMed/MeDLINe,Web of Science or SCOPUS,from 1998 to ***,we have reviewed a total of 1504 papers,and summarized findings that ultimately suggest that NG2 cells possess an inducible neurogenic potential in animal models and in *** also discriminate findings of NG2 neurogenesis promoted by different pharmacological and genetic approaches over functional and biochemical outcomes of traumatic brain injury and spinal co rd injury models,and provide mounting evidence for the potential benefits of manipulated NG2 cell ex vivo transplantation in primary injury *** findings indicate the feasibility of NG2 cell neurogenesis strategies and add new players in the development of therapeutic alternatives for neurotrauma.

We study a subclass of the May–Leonard stochastic model with an arbitrary,even number of species,leading to the rise of two competing partnerships where individuals are *** carrying out a series of accurate numerical stochastic simulations,we show that alliances compete each other forming spatial domains bounded by interfaces of empty *** solve numerically the mean field equations associated with the stochastic model in one and two spatial *** demonstrate that the stationary interface profile presents topological properties which are related to the asymptotic spatial distribution of species of enemy alliances far away from the interface ***,we introduce a theoretical approach to model the formation of stable interfaces using spontaneous breaking of a discrete *** show that all the results provided by the soliton topological model,presented here for the very first time,are in agreement with the stochastic simulations and may be used as a tool for understanding the complex biodiversity in nature.

experimental statistic design applied for obtaining Zn:xCe by microwave-assisted hydrothermal method with photocatalytic property

In this study, the nanostructures of pure ZnO and ZnO:xCe3+ were prepared using statistic design—factorial design 3(3−1)−3-level and mixed-level factorials and fractional with replicates in the central point, totaling 11 experiments. The experiments were performed using the microwave-assisted hydrothermal (MAH) method with Ce3+ concentration of 2 and 4 mol% at 60, 110, and 160 °C for 10, 20, and 30 min. X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SeM), and optical diffuse reflectance were used to characterize the products. The fractional factorial design indicated the optimal design area, and the studies were continued by ridge analysis. The analysis of variance (ANOVA), the Pareto, and the model adjusted to the conditions proposed in this study due to the determination coefficient of 99.9%, variance (R 2), and response surface generated were satisfactory, thus having an optimization in the process of obtaining ZnO doped with Ce.

AIM To investigate the association between 16 insertiondeletions(INdeL) polymorphisms, colorectal cancer(CRC) risk and clinical features in an admixed *** O n e h u n d re d a n d fo r ty p a t i e n t s w i t h C R C a n d 140 cancer-free subjects were examined. Genomic DNA was extracted from peripheral blood samples. Polymorphisms and genomic ancestry distribution were assayed by Multiplex-PCR reaction, separated by capillary electrophoresis on the ABI 3130 Genetic Analyzer instrument and analyzed on Gene Mapper ID v3.2. Clinicopathological data were obtained by consulting the patients' clinical charts, intra-operative documentation, and pathology *** Logistic regression analysis showed that polymorphism variations in IL4 gene was associated with increased CRC risk, while TYMS and UCP2 genes were associated with decreased risk. Reference to anatomical localization of tumor del allele of NfKB1 and CASP8 were associated with more colon related incidents than rectosigmoid. In relation to the INdeL association with tumor node metastasis(TNM) stage risk, the Ins alleles of ACe, HLAG and TP53(6 bp INdeL) were associated with higher TNM stage. furthermore, regarding INdeL association with relapse risk, the Ins alleles of ACe, HLAG, and UGT1A1 were associated with early relapse risk, as well as the del allele of TYMS. Regarding INdeL association with death risk before 10 years, the Ins allele of SGSM3 and UGT1A1 were associated with death *** The INdeL variations in ACe, UCP2, TYMS, IL4, NfKB1, CASP8, TP53, HLAG, UGT1A1, and SGSM3 were associated with CRC risk and clinical features in an admixed population. These data suggest that this cancer panel might be useful as a complementary tool for better clinical management, and more studies need to be conducted to confirm these findings.

The order Gobiiformes is made up of more than 2200 species,representing one of the most diverse groups among teleost *** biological causes for the tachytelic karyotype evolution of the gobies have not yet been fully *** we expanded cytogenetic data for the eleotridae family,analyzing the neotropical species dormitator maculatus,eleotris pisonis,erotelis smaragdus,and Guavina *** addition,a meta-analytical approach was followed for elucidating the karyotype diversification versus biological aspects(habitat and egg type)of the *** species *** and *** present 2n=46 acrocentric chromosomes(Nf=46),*** 2n=46(36sm+4st+6a;Nf=86),and ***,the most divergent karyotype,with 2n=52 acrocentric chromosomes(Nf=52).Besides numeric and structural diversification in the karyotypes,the mapping of rDNAs and microsatellites also showed noticeable numerical and positional variation,supporting the high chromosomal evolutionary dynamism of these *** Gobiiformes,karyotype patterns which are more divergent from the basal karyotype(2n=46a)are associated with characteristics less effective to dispersion,such as the benthic *** adaptive characteristics,connected with the organization of the repetitive DNA content in the chromosomes,likely play a synergistic role in the remarkable karyotype diversification of this group.

Objective:To evaluate the antioxidant,antibacterial and bacterial cell agglutination activities of the hexane(Hex) and 70%ethanol(70%etOH) extracts of two species of red seaweeds Pterocladiella capillacea(***) and Osmundaria ***:In vitro antioxidant activity was determined by DPPH radical scavenging assay,ferric-reducing antioxidant power assay,ferrous ion chelating assay,β-carotene bleaching assay and total phenolic content *** activity was tested using the method of disc diffusion on Mueller-Hinton *** ability of algal extracts to agglutinate bacterial cells was also ***:The 70%etOH extract of the two algae showed the highest values of total phenolic content compared to the Hex *** results of DPPH for both extracts(Hex,70%etOH) of Osmundaria obtusiloba(43.46%and 99.47%) were higher than those of ***(33.04%and 40.81%) at a concentration of 1 000 μg/*** for the ferrous ion chelating,there was an opposite behavior,extracts of *** had a higher *** extracts showed a low ferric-reducing antioxidant power,with optical density ranging from0.054 to *** activities of all extracts evaluated for β-carotene bleaching were above 40%.There was no antibacterial activity against bacterial strains ***,the extracts of both species were able to agglutinate bacterial Gram positive cells of Staphylococcus aureus and Gram negative cells of escherichia coli,multidrug-resistant Salmonella and Vibrio *** This is the first report of the interaction between these algal extracts,rich in natural compounds with antioxidant potential,and Gram positive and Gram negative bacterial cells.

The SeridóBelt,at the extreme northeast of Brazil,is one of the several Neoproterozoic mobile belts related to the Brasiliano/Pan-African Orogeny in Western *** lithostratigraphy of the SeridóBelt comprises basal quartzites and metaconglomerates(equador formation)overlain by hornblende-bearing paragneisses,calc-silicate rocks and marbles(Jucurutu formation)and biotiteschists(Seridóformation).We investigated the sedimentary provenance of these rocks based on an integration of compiled whole-rock geochemistry,Sm-Nd isotopes,U-Pb detrital zircon ages and a new set of whole-rock trace elements *** formation quartzites have major and trace elements patterns that resemble cratonic sandstones,with a typical felsic provenance consistent with the isotopic composition of plutonic Archean to Paleoproterozoic basement *** proxies suggest that these rocks were deposited in fresh waters under anoxic conditions and moderate to intense weathering conditions(CIA=58–79).A shift in provenance led to an increase in intermediate-mafic sources during the deposition of the Jucurutu and Seridó*** elements from rock types in these units are nearly identical,yet they differ on the contents of some high field-strength elements(e.g.,Sc,V and Ni),which are higher in the Seridóformation than average *** proxies show similar depositional environments,with brackish to marine conditions for the Jucurutu and Seridóformations under anoxic to euxinic *** conditions are consistently lower in the Jucurutu formation(CIA=58–66)in comparison with the Seridóformation(CIA=60–88).Compiled U-Pb data suggest maximum depositional ages of 633±11 Ma and 633±6 Ma for Jucurutu and Seridóformations,respectively,suggesting deposition following the ca.645–635 Ma Marinoan *** compared the geochemistry of the Seridóformation schists with currently exposed basement rocks and showed a strong affinity with Neoproterozoic arc-related

Ants show collective and individual behavioral flexibility in their response to immediate context,choosing for example between different foraging *** Pachycondyla striata,workers can forage solitarily or recruit and guide nestmates to larger food sources through tandem *** considered more ancestral and less efficient than pheromone trail-laying,this strategy is common especially in species with small colony *** is not known is how the decision to recruit or follow varies according to the immediate *** is,how fine adjustments in information transfer affect immediate foraging decisions at the colony ***,we studied individually marked workers and evaluated their foraging decisions when food items varied in nature(protein versus carbohydrate),size,and distance from the nest at different temperatures and humidity *** results show that tandem run leaders and potential followers adjust their behavior according to a combination of external *** 84.2%of trips were solitary,most ants(81%)performed at least 1 tandem ***,tandem runs were more frequent for nearby resources and at higher relative ***,when food items were located far away,tandem runs were more successful when heading to protein sources(75%)compared with carbohydrate sources(42%).Our results suggest that the social information transfer between leaders and followers conveys more information than previously thought,and also relies on their experience and motivation.
