Colorectal cancer(CRC)is the second most common cause of cancer-related deaths in Europe and other Western countries,mainly due to the lack of wellvalidated clinically useful biomarkers with enough sensitivity and specificity to detect this disease at early *** it is well known that the pathogenesis of CRC is a progressive accumulation of mutations in multiple genes,much less is known at the proteome ***,in the last years many proteomic studies have been conducted to find new candidate protein biomarkers for diagnosis,prognosis and as therapeutic targets for this malignancy,as well as to elucidate the molecular mechanisms of colorectal *** important advantage of the proteomic approaches is the capacity to look for multiple differentially expressed proteins in a single *** review provides an overview of the recent reports describing the different proteomic tools used for the discovery of new protein markers for CRC such as two-dimensional electrophoresis methods,quantitative mass spectrometry-based techniques or protein ***,we will also focus on the diverse biological samples used for CRC biomarker discovery such as tissue,serum and faeces,besides cell lines and murine models,discussing their advantages and disadvantages,and summarize the most frequently identified candidate CRC markers.

Vitreous hemorrhages are important clinical manifestations of proliferative diabetic retinopathy. non-cleared vitreous hemorrhages could lead to hemosiderosis bulbi and glaucoma. Here, we describe the case of a type 2 diabetic patient presenting anterior segment and vitreous hemorrhages that resolved three days after treatment with a single intravitreal injection of dobesilate.

The scale of forest and landscape restoration is expected to increase during the Un decade on Ecosystem Restoration and its contribution to the provision of critical ecosystem services to *** models of forest restoration may improve ecosystem services,including soil organic carbon(SOC)storage.A review was carried out to access:(1)the variability of SOC storage between worldwide forest restoration models and,(2)the effects of climate,soil class,soil texture,and vegetation type on SOC *** reviewed 119 primary studies with information on SOC and soil texture for different forest restoration *** restoration models were grouped into four categories:natural regeneration,monocultures,agroforestry,and mixed *** data was extracted from these four restoration models,other land uses(cropland,bare land,grassland,and natural forest),climate regimes,and soil *** SOC storage in the forest restoration models and other land uses at a global scale ranged between 0.1 to 514 Mg ha^(-1).The overall mean value for SOC storage was higher for natural regeneration(112 Mg ha^(-1)),followed by agroforestry(74 Mg ha^(-1)),mixed forest(73 Mg ha^(-1)),and monocultures(68 Mg ha^(-1)).However,the average SOC storage was similar among the four restoration models in the moist warm climate *** SOC storage mean value in the moist cool zone was 23%higher than the dry cool zone(81 and 62 Mg ha^(-1),respectively),and 50%higher for the moist warm zone when compared to the dry warm climatic zone(74 and 38 Mg ha^(-1),respectively).The SOC storage of the restoration models was positively related to soil depth(0.59;py content(0.29;pnd stand age(0.17;py,the mean values of SOC storage were 26,66,and 139 Mg ha^(-1) at zero-10,zero-30,and zero-100 cm depths,*** addition,sandy soils showed smaller mean values of SOC storage than medium to clay soils,especially in deeper soil ***,SOC storage was positively re

Air pollution has become a major problem in urban areas due to increasing industrialization and *** this study ambient concentrations of PM1 and metal concentrations as well as source contributions were identified and quantified by using Positive Matrix Factorization(PMF)in receptor modeling in the Metropolitan Area of Porto Alegre,*** PM1 samples were collected on PTFE filters from december 2012 to december 2014 in two sampling *** ion and trace element concentrations were *** average concentrations were 12.8 and 15.2μg/m^(3) for Canoas and Sapucaia do Sul sites,*** ion contributions of PM1 were secondary pollutants such as sulfate and *** elements,especially Cu,Pb,Zn,Cd,and ni also made important contributions which are directly associated with anthropogenic *** results show significantly higher levels in winter than in *** of the PM1 and the analyzed PM species and elements originated from anthropogenic sources,especially road traffic,combustion processes and industrial activities,which are grouped in 7 major contributing sources.A back-trajectory analysis showed that the long-range transport of pollutants was not relevant in relation to the contribution to PM1 and metal *** work highlights the importance of urban planning to reduce human health exposure to traffic and industrial emissions,combined with awareness-raising actions for citizens concerning the impact of indoor sources.

Aims South American Pampa grasslands are habitats of great conservation interest,with a distinct and rich flora,but have been intensely con-verted to other land uses,including tree *** neces-sity for restoration grows,no information on restoration potential of grasslands after afforestation ***,we aim at analyzing composition and structure of grassland vegetation with a history of eucalyptus plantations in order to assess recovery potential of these *** hypothesized that areas with history of eucalyptus would differ from reference grasslands with no history of land-use change in terms of floristic and functional composition and would present lower species *** Our study region comprised four sites in the southeastern part of the Pampa biome,in the coastal plain in the extreme south of Brazil,always with sites with long(50 years)history of eucalyptus plantation and reference *** sampled vegetation at post-eucalyptus sites(with and without resprouting)10 years after clear-clutting and in natural *** analyzed data by analysis of variance and ordination techniques,considering compositional parameters and life forms,and indicator species *** Findings Species richness and vegetation cover were higher in reference grassland than in resprout areas but did not differ from post-eucalyp-tus *** species cover was significantly higher in areas with afforestation *** terms of total composition,natural grasslands differed significantly from areas with past plantation *** species analyses revealed considerable differences between grass-land *** conclusion,vegetation development led to grassland communities that are still quite distinct from reference ***,the specificity of grassland management has a high importance in defining vegetation trajectories in time and importance for grassland recovery,and restoration needs to be addressed in more studies.

Having a better understanding of air pollutants in railway systems is crucial to ensure a clean public *** study measured,for the first time in Brazil,nanoparticles(nPs)and black carbon(BC)on two groundlevel platforms and inside trains of the Metropolitan Area of Porto Alegre(MAPA).An intense sampling campaign during thirteen consecutive months was carried out and the chemical composition of nPs was examined by advanced microscopy *** results showed that highest concentrations of the pollutants occur in colder seasons and influenced by variables such as frequency of the trains and passenger ***,internal and external sources of pollution at the stations were *** predominance of nPs enriched with metals that increase oxidative stress like Cd,Fe,Pb,Cr,Zn,ni,V,Hg,Sn,and Ba both on the platforms and inside trains,including Fe-minerals as hematite and magnetite,represents a critical risk to the health of passengers and employees of the *** interdisciplinary and multi-analytical study aims to provide an improved understanding of reported adverse health effects induced by railway system aerosols.
