Testing carbonate chemostratigraphy across differentiated ancient shallow-platform environments(Early Kimmeridgian,S Iberia)

The magnetic properties and the structure of [Co/Ti/Gd0.36 Co0.64/Ti]4/Co multilayers are investigated by means of torque magnetometer, vibrating sample magnetometer and transverse magneto-optic Kerr effect （TMOKE） measurements and the atomic force microscopy. Due to interlayer exchange interaction, Co and Gd-Co layers form a macroscopic ferrimagnetic system. The change in the sign of the TMOKE hysteresis loops near the compensation temperature and field induced magnetic phase transitions are found. The latter can be characterized by a critical field which shows a linear variation with the temperature. The magnetic properties of these multilayers from many points of view are similar to those of bulk ferrimagnets.

Coffee is currently the second largest commodity on the world market today,and there is great concern about the quality of the beans exported from producer countries to Europe and *** such as using blends of different species and adding low-cost raw materials,such as chicory,corn,and soybean,impair the sensory and functional characteristics of the drink made from roasted and ground coffee *** is a need to adopt more efficient analytical methods than the microscopy technique currently *** first chromatographic method used to determine fraud was reported in *** method used paper chromatography to differentiate between coffee and chicory based on the free reducing *** of the 1980s,different methods involving high-performance liquid chromatography and gas chromatography were developed in order to demonstrate geographic authenticity,distinction between species,occurrence of adulteration,and the presence of defective beans by determining the monosaccharides,oligosaccharides,tocopherols,fatty acids,volatiles,diterpenes,sterols,and phenolic substances,among *** far as the authors know,there are no papers published in the literature that have compiled such an extensive set of information about these chromatographic methods as *** the last 2 years,there has been a trend to develop analytical methods for ultra-performance liquid chromatography coupled with tandem mass spectrometry to confirm fraud in coffee,due to high sensitivity and selectivity.

After breeding,Black-necked Grebes(Podiceps nigricollis)perform a moult-migration to autumn hypersaline staging sites,where they moult the flight feathers and forage on superabundant brine shrimp(Artemia spp.)before leaving for wintering *** the stay in moulting sites,the grebes experience changes in organs and muscle size(atrophy,hypertrophy),and almost double their body mass,which has been suggested to act as an insurance against a collapse in prey availability in late *** two years we collected blood samples from hundreds of individuals at one of the most important European moulting sites(the Odiel marshes,SW Spain),which is a highly polluted area due to mining drainage and chemical *** assessed the potential effect of moulting stage,day of the year and body condition on 16 blood biochemical *** of the changes in prey availability and body composition of grebes,we expected some physiological adjustments during *** levels of cholesterol suggested that birds in active moult increased foraging effort to face the costs of *** was increased amount of lactate dehydrogenase,corresponding to periods of breast muscle *** in active moult augmented protein ingestion,likely to account for the requirements of feather *** also show that the probability of fasting due to low prey availability increased late in the moulting season,as demonstrated by an increase in plasmaβ-hydroxy-butyrate.

Oxidative stress has long been associated with the pathogenesis of inflammatory bowel disease(IBD),and it has been suggested that the combined administration of antioxidants and anti-inflammatory agents may be helpful for its *** from plant proteins,such as soybean glycinin tripeptide VPy,effectively inhibit pro-inflammatory mediators in intestinal epithelial and immune cells,which are both involved in the pathogenesis of *** study aimed to produce antioxidant biopeptides from proteins of Lupinus mutabilis seeds and then encapsulate them in chitosan nanoparticles(NPs)for colonic *** antioxidant peptide fraction of less than three kDa(UF3)was obtained and added at different concentrations(0.1–0.4 mg/ml)in chitosan *** NPs were prepared by gelation with tripolyphosphate(CTPP-UF3)or spray freeze-drying of the chitosan solution(SFDC-UF3).Sizes of 332±13 and 465±58 nm and maximum encapsulation efficiencies of 63.80 and 71.75%,respectively,were ***3 maintained its antioxidant capacity(>80%)and showed different release profiles in 1X PBS buffer at pH 7.4,depending on the encapsulation ***-IR showed hydrogen bonding and electrostatic interactions between the peptide and *** nanosystems maintained cell viability greater than 70%in colonic cell lines *** results show that both methods are appropriate for the nanoencapsulation of UF3 and can be used to design nanoparticles for colonic delivery.

Grape marc(GM)from País winery is an abundant resource with potential use in animal feed in Chile,but information on its chemical composition,bioactive compounds and enteric methane(CH4)emissions is not *** conditions could change the chemical composition and bioactive compounds of País GM,and affect CH4 ***,the objectives of this study were to assess the effects of drying conditions on the chemical composition and bioactive compounds of País GM,and rumen fermentation parameters and CH4 *** first experiment evaluated the effects of three drying conditions(freeze-drying,and oven drying at 40℃/72-h and 60℃/48-h)on the contents of bioactive compounds,antioxidant capacity and chemical composition of País *** second experiment evaluated and compared rumen fermentation parameters and CH4 output of dried País ***-dried País GM had the highest concentrations of phenolic compounds(p=0.001),but oven-dried País GM(60℃/48-h)showed the highest content of proanthocyanidins(p=0.043).Ash(p=0.003),ether extract(p=0.042)and non-fiber carbohydrate(p=0.033)contents were higher in oven-dried País GM,as opposed to neutral detergent fiber or acid detergent *** drying GM at 60℃/48-h reduced dry matter disappearance(pyield(p=0.001)as compared to freeze dried *** suggest that oven-drying is useful to conserve GM chemical value,extend its’shelf-life and allows use of País GM as ruminant feed with potential positive environmental effects on enteric CH4 emissions but further in vitro and in vivo studies with GM as a dietary ingredient are required.

Consumer Perception of Goat Cheese Using Word Association Technique

The word association technique was used to study the perception of Uruguayan consumers with regards to goat cheese and compare it with the perception of other cheeses sold in this market. For this, 149 subjects were presented with five different questionnaires to complete with their perceptions of the following cheeses Colonia, Parmesan, Camembert, goat and sheep cheese. The instructions were as follows：＂Please, write down all the words, descriptions, associations, thoughts or feelings that come to your mind in connection with these products＂. Afterwards, these words were grouped into 16 categories： animal, color, like, dislike, eyes （of the cheese）, feelings, flavor, knowledge/consumption, meals and food, occasions, origin, price, quality, rind, smell and texture. Goat cheese was highly associated with factors related to flavor （51.7%） and texture （34.2%）. Participants used a wide range of terms, many contradictory （sour, bitter, strong, tasty, mild, bland, creamy, pasty, soft and hard） to describe this cheese. Such diversity in responses may reflect the difference among brands in Uruguay or lack of knowledge on goat cheese. There was also variation in perception in color categories （27.5%）, dislike （17.4%） and smell （21.5%）. The dislike for this cheese reflected in the choice of words such as ＂stinky＂ and ＂smelly＂ is mainly associated with negative connotations for smell （fetid and malodorous）. Three groups of consumers were identified based on the frequency of consumption of goat cheese. When frequency of consumption decreased, the percentage of mention of the categories like, meals and food and flavor also decreased, whereas the frequency of mention of the categories animal, knowledge/consumption and dislike increased. These results suggest that word association might be an interesting, easy and quick qualitative technique to gather useful information about consumer perceptions of cheese products.

Foodborne outbreaks in Brazil associated with fruits and vegetables:2008 through 2014

Objectives:Foodborne disease outbreaks linked to fruits and vegetables have been increasing in occurrence worldwide;therefore,the aim of this study was to identify the reported foodborne outbreaks associated with fruit and vegetable consumption in Brazil from 2008 to *** And Limitations:Thirty produce related outbreaks resulted in 2926 illnesses,347 hospitalizations,and no *** bacterial pathogens were identified as etiological *** these,Salmonella was the most frequent(30 per cent of outbreaks)followed by Staphylococcus aureus(23.3 per cent),Escherichia coli(10 per cent),Bacillus cereus(6.6 per cent),and thermotolerant coliforms(3.3 per cent),whereas etiological agents could not be determined for 26.6 per cent of *** most common food vehicles implicated in outbreaks were generically named as fruits and vegetables(46.6 per cent of outbreaks).The term salad was used generically and specifically like salads(two outbreaks),raw/cooked salads(four outbreaks),vegetable salad,tropical salad,Caesar salad,and raw salad of cabbage and *** one outbreak was related exclusively to fruit(fruit pulp),whereas other outbreaks were related to cooked carrot,lettuce,cucumber,watermelon/cabbage,and chard/*** sources and issues related to the future control of produce-related foodborne disease outbreaks are discussed.

Social Isolation in Male Rats During Adolescence Inhibits the Wnt/β-Catenin Pathway in the Prefrontal Cortex and Enhances Anxiety and Cocaine-Induced Plasticity in Adulthood

In adult animals,it is well established that stress has a proactive effect on psychostimulant ***,whether only a short period of stress during adolescence can also affect cocaine responses later in life and what mechanisms are involved are ***,we showed that 5 days of social isolation during rat adolescence had a long-term impact on anxiety-like behaviors,cocaine-induced conditioned place preference,and the expression of sensitization during *** the molecular level,social isolation decreased the activity of the Wnt/β-catenin pathway in the prefrontal cortex(PFC).Furthermore,after the expression of cocaine sensitization,isolated rats showed an increase in this pathway in the nucleus ***,these findings suggest that,adolescent social isolation by altering the Wnt/β-catenin pathway in the developing PFC might increase the cocaine responses during adulthood,introducing this pathway as a novel neuroadaptation in the cortical-accumbens connection that may mediate a stress-induced increase in vulnerability to drugs.
