Multivariate statistical methods and GIS based evaluation of the health risk potential and water quality due to arsenic pollution in the K?z?l?rmak River

The K?z?l?rmak River is Turkey?s longest(1,355 km) river and it is important since it constitutes the drinking and irrigation water source of the Central Anatolia Region. In the current study, the spatial distribution, effect on irrigation water quality, environmental pollution status, ecotoxicological and health risks as well as possible sources of 12 potential toxic elements?(PTEs)(manganese(Mn),aluminum(Al), arsenic(As), chromium(Cr), zinc(Zn), iron(Fe), nickel(Ni), cadmium(Cd), cobalt(Co),copper(Cu), mercury(Hg), and lead(Pb)) concentrations from surface water samples in the K?z?l?rmak River were analyzed by using geographical information systems(GIS) software, ecotoxicological indices,and multivariate statistical analysis. As a result of the current study, it was determined that the As concentration is above the World Health Organization(WHO) limit values, and, in terms of the 12 PTEs,there is slight heavy metal contamination in the river according to the Heavy Metal Pollution Index(HPI)and Heavy Metal Evaluation Index(HEI) values and there is a low level of pollution. The Hazard Quotient for ingestion(HQingestion) and Hazard Index(HI) values indicate that non-carcinogenic effects may *** to river water is likely to result in a low level of carcinogenic risk(CR) in adults, mainly due to the As concentration. The water at Sampling Station S3(131.79) cannot be used for drinking and is not suitable for consumption. According to the sodium percentage(Na%), Sodium Absorption Ratio(SAR),and Magnesium Hazard(MH) index results, river water is suitable for agricultural use.

A Novel Method to Improve the Electrochemical Performance of LiMn_2O_4 Cathode Active Material by CaCO_3 Surface Coating

Spinel LiMn204 was synthesized by glycine-nitrate method and coated with CaCO3 in order to enhance the electrochemical performance at room temperature （25℃） and 55℃. The uncoated and CaCO3-coated LiMn204 materials were characterized by X-ray diffraction （XRD）, scanning electron microscopy （SEM） and electrochemical tests. XRD and SEM results indicated that CaCO3 particles encapsulated the surface of the LiMn204 without causing any structural change. The charge-discharge tests showed that the specific discharge capacity fade of pristine electrode at 25 and 55℃ were 25.5% and 52%, respectively. However, surface modified cathode shows 7.4% and 29.5% loss compared to initial specific discharge capacity at 70th cycle for 25 and 55~C, respectively. The improvement of electrochemical performance is attributed to suppression of Mn2＋ dissolution into electrolyte via CaCO3 layer.

Evaluation of the relationship between two different methods for enumeration fecal indicator bacteria: Colony-forming unit and most probable number

Most probable number （MPN） and colony-forming unit （CFU） estimates of fecal indicator bacteria （FIB） concentration are common measures of water quality in aquatic environments. Thus, FIB intensively monitored in Yeongsan Watershed in an attempt to compare two different methods and to develop a statistical model to convert from CFU to MPN estimates or vice versa. As a result, the significant difference was found in the MPN and CFU estimates. The enumerated Escherichia coli concentrations in MPN are greater than those in CFU, except for the measurement in winter. Especially in fall, E. coli concentrations in MPN are one order of magnitude greater than that in CFU. Contrarily, enterococci bacteria in MPN are lower than those in CFU. However, in general, a strongly positive relationship are found between MPN and CFU estimates. Therefore, the statistical models were developed, and showed the reasonable converting FIB concentrations from CFU estimates to MPN estimates. We expect this study will provide preliminary information towards future research on whether different analysis methods may result in different water quality standard violation frequencies for the same water sample.

Ethanol Extract of Lycopodium serratum Thunb. Attenuates Lipopolysaccharide-Induced C6 Glioma Cells Migration via Matrix Metalloproteinase-9 Expression

Objectives： To elucidate how ethanol extract of L. serratum（ELS） could exert anti-migratory effects on glioma with the suppression of nuclear factor kappa B（NF-κB） downstream pathway. Methods： Cell viability of ELS on C6 glioma was detected by 3-（4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl）-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide（MTT） assay. Nitric oxide（NO） assay and 2＇,7＇-dichlorofluorescin diacetate（DCFH-DA） assay were applied to measure NO production and reactive oxygen species（ROS） generation on lipopolysaccharide（LPS）-induced C6 glioma cells. NF-κB, mitogen-activated protein kinase（MAPK）, inducible nictric oxide synthase（i NOS） and cyclooxygenase-2（COX-2） protein were determined by Western blot. Wound healing assay was used to investigate the inhibitory effect of ELS on fetal bovine serum（FBS）-induced migration and matrix metalloproteinase（MMP）-9 and-2 activity was examined by zymography. Results： ELS suppressed LPS-induced phosphorylation of extracellular signal-regulated kinase（ERK）, c-Jun N-terminal kinase（JNK）, and p38 through inhibiting the expression of chemokine CCL2（or monocyte chemoattractant protein-1, MCP-1）. In addition, ELS inhibited the expression of i NOS, COX-2, and the production of NO by LPS in C6 glioma cells. ELS also significantly decreased serum-induced migration of C6 glioma cells in scratch wound healing in a dose-dependent manner（P〈0.01）. The activity of MMP-9 and-2 were also significantly attenuated by ELS with LPS treatment（P〈0.01）. Conclusion： Our results suggest that downregulation of MMP-9 gene expression might be involved in the anti-migration effect of ELS against LPS-induced C6 glioma cells.

In this study, we aimed to investigate the prevalence and perception of premature ejaculation （PE） in young and middle-aged Korean men. The study was conducted using an Internet-assisted questionnaire. A total of 2 037 Korean male adults, aged 20 years or older, were randomly sampled based on age and residency. The questionnaire developed by the PE Study Group of the Korean Andrological Society includes four categories （overall sexual function, symptoms, distress and treatment） with a total of 16 questions. For each question, symptoms were evaluated by a scale ranging from 0 to 10. Intravaginal ejaculation latency time was ‘5-10 min＇ in 38.6%, followed by ‘longer than 10 min＇ in 2919%, ‘2-5 min＇ in 23.6%, ‘1-2 min＇ in 5.4% and ‘shorter than 1 min＇ in 2.5%. In our series, 27.5% of respondents reported having PE. Control over ejaculation within a recent 3-month period was 6.2 points on average. Respondent complaints of PE-related stress averaged 7.1 points and stress-related complaints from sexual partners averaged 7.1 points. The effect of PE on sexual life was 6.8 points. Of the respondents determined as having PE, 42.6% responded that they were inclined to receive treatment. Results from this study suggest that the prevalence of PE diagnosed by the respondent on his own was approximately 27.5% in young and middle-aged men in Korea. PE-related stress had a significant effect on the stress, sexual activity and quality of life of the respondent and his sexual partner.

Naturalization of Landscaping Woody Plant, Magnolia obovata Potentially Invasive Species

Magnolia obovata, a tree species native to Japan, is a traditional landscaping tree that has also been introduced to various countries. M. obovata individuals have recently emerged in non-planting areas in Korea, prompting us to investigate its distribution by establishing Dosolsan in an urban forest of Daejeon City as the target site. In order to determine its naturalization, the study explored the status of population growth by examining the diameter at breast height of the individuals, and diameter diminution quotient was calculated. Cores of the trees were collected, and the age distribution was estimated by regression analysis. Reproduction possibility was analyzed by verifying the flowerblooming and fruit-bearing. Spontaneous colonization was investigated in the other potential sites which have different location and environment, *** diameter distribution showed a reverse J-shaped curve, and the diminution quotient was ≥ 1.8. The population was composed of different generations,thus confirming the growth of the population. The distributed M. obovata grew and flowered normally,and followed a normal life cycle. The same phenomenon was observed in other planting areas,residual forests in urban or rural areas, alluvial islands, and mountain forests. The continuous spread of M. obovata in new ecosystems may be attributable to its long-term distribution by birds, relatively fast growth, and maturity time. Investigations on the naturalization and spread of M. obovata in Korea, as well as in various countries, are warranted.

An Energy Efficient Design for UAV Communication With Mobile Edge Computing

This paper considers a UAV communication system with mobile edge computing(MEC).We minimize the energy consumption of the whole system via jointly optimizing the UAV's trajectory and task assignment as well as CPU's computational speed under the set of resource *** this end,we first derive the energy consumption model of data processing,and then obtain the energy consumption model of fixed-wing UAV's *** optimization problem is mathematically *** address the problem,we first obtain the approximate optimization problem by applying the technique of discrete linear state-space approximation,and then transform the non-convex constraints into convex by using ***,a concave-convex procedure(CCCP) based algorithm is proposed in order to solve the optimization problem *** results show the efficacy of the proposed algorithm.

Solvent-free preparation of arylaminotetrazole derivatives using aluminum(Ⅲ) hydrogensulfate as an effective catalyst

An efficient and simple method for the preparation of 5-arylamino-1H-tetrazole and 1-aryl-5-amino-1H-tetrazole derivatives is reported using aluminum（Ⅲ） hydrogensulfate（Al（HSO4）3） as an effective heterogeneous catalyst from secondary arylcyanamides. Generally,when the substitution in arylcyanamide is strongly electron-withdrawing the position of equilibrium would shift toward the isomer of 1-aryl-5-amino-1H-tetrazole（B） and as the electron-donating of substituent increased,the position of equilibrium is shifted toward the isomer of 5-arylamino-1H-tetrazole（A）.The present methodology offers several advantages,such as excellent yields,short reaction times,easy work-up and greener conditions.

Connecting cellular mechanisms and extracellular vesicle cargo in traumatic brain injury

Traumatic brain injury is followed by a cascade of dynamic and complex events occurring at the cellular level. These events include: diffuse axonal injury, neuronal cell death, blood-brain barrier break down, glial activation and neuroinflammation, edema, ischemia, vascular injury, energy failure, and peripheral immune cell infiltration. The timing of these events post injury has been linked to injury severity and functional outcome. Extracellular vesicles are membrane bound secretory vesicles that contain markers and cargo pertaining to their cell of origin and can cross the blood-brain barrier. These qualities make extracellular vesicles intriguing candidates for a liquid biopsy into the pathophysiologic changes occurring at the cellular level post traumatic brain injury. Herein, we review the most commonly reported cargo changes in extracellular vesicles from clinical traumatic brain injury samples. We then use knowledge from animal and in vitro models to help infer what these changes may indicate regrading cellular responses post traumatic brain injury. Future research should prioritize labeling extracellular vesicles with markers for distinct cell types across a range of timepoints post traumatic brain injury.
