Background: Jaw cysts and cyst-like lesions cause facial deformity, destruction of dental tissues and affect masticatory and phonation functions. These ad-versely erode patients’ psycho-social status;create low self-esteem and may change one’s facial identity and appearance. Objective: To determine the histo-pathologic characteristics, variants and demographic pattern of jaw cysts and cyst-like lesions at the University of Nairobi dental hospital. Material and Me-thod: This was an analytical and verification study that involved microscopic re-examination of all available incisional/excisional biopsy samples from January 2000 to December 2009 for histo-pathological diagnosis at the University of Nairobi dental hospital. Results: 187 jaw cysts and cyst-like lesions were diagnosed at the University of Nairobi dental hospital over the ten-year period. Keratocystic odontogenic tumours constituted 28%, dentigerous cysts 25%, nasopalatine duct cysts 19%, radicular cysts 15%, while calcifying odontogenic cysts comprised 4% of all the lesions. The rest of the lesions were between 1% and 3% of all the lesion entities. Conclusion: Keratocystic odontogenic tumours and dentigerous cysts were the most common developmental odontogenic cysts diagnosed in the ten-year period.

BACKGROUND Return to work(RTW)serves as an indication for young and middle-aged colorectal cancer(CRC)survivors to resume their normal social ***,these survivors encounter significant challenges during their RTW ***,scientific research is necessary to explore the barriers and facilitating factors of returning to work for young and middle-aged CRC *** To examine the current RTW status among young and middle-aged CRC survivors and to analyze the impact of RTW self-efficacy(RTW-SE),fear of progression(FoP),eHealth literacy(eHL),family resilience(FR),and financial toxicity(FT)on their RTW *** A cross-sectional investigation was adopted in this *** September 2022 to February 2023,a total of 209 participants were recruited through a convenience sampling method from the gastrointestinal surgery department of a class A tertiary hospital in *** investigation utilized a general information questionnaire alongside scales assessing RTW-SE,FoP,eHL,FR,and *** analyze the factors that influence RTW outcomes among young and middle-aged CRC survivors,Cox regression modeling and Kaplan-Meier survival analysis were *** A total of 43.54%of the participants successfully returned to work,with an average RTW time of 100 *** regression univariate analysis revealed that RTW-SE,FoP,eHL,FR,and FT were significantly different between the non-RTW and RTW groups(P<0.05).Furthermore,Cox regression multivariate analysis identified per capita family monthly income,job type,RTW-SE,and FR as independent influencing factors for RTW(P<0.05).CONCLUSION The RTW rate requires further *** levels of RTW-SE and FR were found to significantly increase RTW among young and middle-aged CRC *** professionals should focus on modifiable factors,such as RTW-SE and FR,to design targeted RTW support programs,thereby facilitating their timely reintegration into mainstream society.

We report a case of a 64-year-old woman with anaplastic carcinoma of the pancreas(ACP) with cyst formation and review 60 ACP cases reported in Japan. In 20% of cases, laboratory tests revealed severe anemia(hemoglobin level 12000/mm3), which were likely attributable to rapid tumor growth, intratumoral hemorrhage, and necrosis. Elevated serum CA19-9 levels were observed in 55% of cases. Cyst-like structures were observed on imaging in 47% of cases, and this finding appears to reflect subsequent cystic degeneration in the lesion. Macroscopically, hemorrhagic necrosis was observed in 77% of cases, and cyst formation was observed in 33% of cases. ACP should be considered when diagnosing pancreatic tumors with a cyst-like appearance, especially in the presence of severe anemia, elevated leucocyte counts, or elevated serum CA19-9 levels.

Ginsenoside Rbl Upregulating AQP5 Protein Expression and Alleviating Salivary Secretion Impairment in Ovariectomized SjOgren's Syndrome Mice

Sjogren's syndrome(SS) is an autoimmune disease characterized as the impairment of salivary secretion mediated by abnormal aquaporin 5(AQP5). Here we used AQP5 promoter as the target to screen the eflective components from natural drugs. Panax quinquefolius and its specific ingredient, Rbl, were identified to increase the AQP5 transcriptional activity and AQP5 expression. Then we investigated the possibility of Rbl binding to sex hormone receptors and demonstrated that Rbl bound specifically to estrogen receptor alpha(ERa), but not to androgen receptor. Next, we found that ERa overexpression magnified the effect of Rbl induced AQP5 transcription, and the silence of ERa blocked this effect, demonstrating that Rbl activated AQP5 transcription via ERa pathway. Importantly, we constructed SS mouse model and investigated the effects of Rbl on salivary secretion in vivo. SS mice exhibited significant impairment in salivary secretion and decreased AQP5 expression in the submandibular gland. Intriguingly, SS mice administered with Rbl exhibited dramatically increased salivary secretion, followed by decreased diary water consumption. In particular, Rbl up-regulated AQP5 expression localized in the submandibular gland, almost similar to the SS mice administered with estrogen. Our data demonstrated that Rbl bound with ERa to up-regulate AQP5 to increase saliva secretion, thus functioned as a potential natural phytoestrogen for the therapy of salivary secretion impairment in SS patients.
