Developing a Recognition System for Classifying COVID-19 Using a Convolutional Neural Network Algorithm

The COVID-19 pandemic poses an additional serious public health threat due to little or no pre-existing human immunity,and developing a system to identify COVID-19 in its early stages will save millions of *** study applied support vector machine(SVM),k-nearest neighbor(K-NN)and deep learning convolutional neural network(CNN)algorithms to classify and detect COVID-19 using chest X-ray *** test the proposed system,chest X-ray radiographs and CT images were collected from different standard databases,which contained 95 normal images,140 COVID-19 images and 10 SARS *** scenarios were considered to develop a system for predicting *** the first scenario,the Gaussian filter was applied to remove noise from the chest X-ray radiograph images,and then the adaptive region growing technique was used to segment the region of interest from the chest X-ray *** segmentation,a hybrid feature extraction composed of 2D-DWT and gray level co-occurrence matrix was utilized to extract the features significant for detecting *** features were processed using SVM and *** the second scenario,a CNN transfer model(ResNet 50)was used to detect *** system was examined and evaluated through multiclass statistical analysis,and the empirical results of the analysis found significant values of 97.14%,99.34%,99.26%,99.26%and 99.40%for accuracy,specificity,sensitivity,recall and AUC,***,the CNN model showed significant success;it achieved optimal accuracy,effectiveness and robustness for detecting COVID-19.

Makerere University, having been in existence since 1926, is one of the most reputable institutions in Africa located in east Africa. Makerere provides educational environment to many students and therefore some courses are delivered through distance education mode. This mode calls for intensive use of technologies for instruction and learning. Technological advancements in this same university have gone through a number of progressive stages: use of traditional chalkboard technologies to blending technologies including the use of ICT (information and communication technology). In order to provide a distance education learning environment that enables the development of higher order cognitive skills, innovations like technology mediated learning need to be clearly understood. This paper provides the theoretical view of distance education and technology mediated learning through the activity theory. The paper concludes with some recommendations of how technology mediated learning can lead to the development of higher order cognitive skills in distance learning.

Open and distance education can cultivate talents needed for urbanization construction, reduce urban and rural education gap and promote education fair.

Towards More efficient Image Web Search

With the flood of information on the Web, it has become increasingly necessary for users to utilize automated tools in order to find, extract, filter, and evaluate the desired information and knowledge discovery. In this research, we will present a preliminary discussion about using the dominant meaning technique to improve Google Image Web search engine. Google search engine analyzes the text on the page adjacent to the image, the image caption and dozens of other factors to determine the image content. To improve the results, we looked for building a dominant meaning classification model. This paper investigated the influence of using this model to retrieve more efficient images, through sequential procedures to formulate a suitable query. In order to build this model, the specific dataset related to an application domain was collected;K-means algorithm was used to cluster the dataset into K-clusters, and the dominant meaning technique is used to construct a hierarchy model of these clusters. This hierarchy model is used to reformulate a new query. We perform some experiments on Google and validate the effectiveness of the proposed approach. The proposed approach is improved for in precision, recall and F1-measure by 57%, 70%, and 61% respectively.

Dominant Meaning Method for Intelligent Topic-Based Information Agent towards More Flexible MOOCs

The use of agent technology in a dynamic environment is rapidly growing as one of the powerful technologies and the need to provide the benefits of the Intelligent Information Agent technique to massive open online courses, is very important from various aspects including the rapid growing of MOOCs environments, and the focusing more on static information than on updated information. One of the main problems in such environment is updating the information to the needs of the student who interacts at each moment. Using such technology can ensure more flexible information, lower waste time and hence higher earnings in learning. This paper presents Intelligent Topic-Based Information Agent to offer an updated knowledge including various types of resource for students. Using dominant meaning method, the agent searches the Internet, controls the metadata coming from the Internet, filters and shows them into a categorized content lists. There are two experiments conducted on the Intelligent Topic-Based Information Agent: one measures the improvement in the retrieval effectiveness and the other measures the impact of the agent on the learning. The experiment results indicate that our methodology to expand the query yields a considerable improvement in the retrieval effectiveness in all categories of Google Web Search API. On the other hand, there is a positive impact on the performance of learning session.

Touch gesture recognition is an important aspect in human-robot interaction,as it makes such interaction effective and *** novelty of this study is the development of a system that recognizes human-animal affective robot touch(HAART)using a deep learning *** proposed system was used for touch gesture recognition based on a dataset provided by the Recognition of the Touch Gestures Challenge *** dataset was tested with numerous subjects performing different HAART gestures;each touch was performed on a robotic animal covered by a pressure sensor skin.A convolutional neural network algorithm is proposed to implement the touch recognition system from row inputs of the sensor *** leave-one-subject-out cross-validation method was used to validate and evaluate the proposed system.A comparative analysis between the results of the proposed system and the state-of-the-art performance is *** show that the proposed system could recognize the gestures in almost real time(after acquiring the minimum number of frames).According to the results of the leave-one-subject-out cross-validation method,the proposed algorithm could achieve a classification accuracy of 83.2%.It was also superior compared with existing systems in terms of classification ratio,touch recognition time,and data preprocessing on the same ***,the proposed system can be used in a wide range of real applications,such as image recognition,natural language recognition,and video clip classification.

The Covid-19 epidemic poses a serious public health threat to the world,where people with little or no pre-existing human immunity can be more vulnerable to its ***,developing surveillance systems for predicting the Covid-19 pandemic at an early stage could save millions of *** this study,a deep learning algorithm and a Holt-trend model are proposed to predict the *** Long-Short Term Memory(LSTM)and Holttrend algorithms were applied to predict confirmed numbers and death *** real time data used has been collected from theWorld Health Organization(WHO).In the proposed research,we have considered three countries to test the proposed model,namely Saudi Arabia,Spain and *** results suggest that the LSTM models show better performance in predicting the cases of coronavirus *** measure performance Mean squared error(MSe),Root Mean Squared error(RMSe),Mean error and correlation are employed to estimate the results of the proposed *** empirical results of the LSTM,using the correlation metrics,are 99.94%,99.94%and 99.91%in predicting the number of confirmed cases in the three *** far as the results of the LSTM model in predicting the number of death of Covid-19,they are 99.86%,98.876%and 99.16%with respect to Saudi Arabia,Italy and Spain ***,the experiment’s results of the Holt-Trend model in predicting the number of confirmed cases of Covid-19,using the correlation metrics,are 99.06%,99.96%and 99.94%,whereas the results of the Holt-Trend model in predicting the number of death cases are 99.80%,99.96%and 99.94%with respect to the Saudi Arabia,Italy and Spain *** empirical results indicate the efficient performance of the presented model in predicting the number of confirmed and death cases of Covid-19 in these *** findings provide better insights regarding the future of Covid-19 this pandemic in *** results were obtained by applying time series models,which

There have been numerous attempts recently to promote technology based education (Shrestha, 1997) in the poorer third world countries, but so far all these have not provided a sustainable solution as they are either centered and controlled from abroad and relying solely on foreign donors for their sustenance or they are not web based, which make distribution problematic, and some are not affordable by most of the local population in these places. In this paper we discuss an application, the Local College learning Management System (LoColms), which we are developing, that is both sustainable and economical to suit the situation in these countries. The application is a web based system, and aims at improving the traditional form of education by empowering the local universities. Its economicability comes from the fact that it is supported by traditional communication technology, the public switching telephone network system, PSTN, which eliminates the need for packet switched or dedicated private virtual networks (PVN) usually required in similar situations. At a later stage, we shall incorporate ontology and paging tools to improve resource sharability and storage optimization in the Proxy Caches (ProCa) and LoColms servers. The system is based on the client/server paradigm and its infrastructure consists of the PSTN, ProCa, with the learning centers accessing the universities by means of point to point protocol (PPP).

Identification and analysis of a processed cytochrome P450 pseudogene of the disease vector Aedes aegypti

Objective: To clone cytochrome P450 from Aedes aegypti(Ae. aegypti) and determine the characteristics using bioinformatics tools. Methods: Cytochrome P450 of Ae. aegypti was amplified using polymerase chain reaction, cloned and sequenced. evolutionary relationship of the sequence was inferred and bioinformatics tools were used to predict subcellular localisation, signal peptide, transmembrane helix, phosphorylation, O-glycosylation, secondary and tertiary structures of the deduced protein. Results: Polymerase chain reaction rather amplified a cytochrome P450 pseudogene which was named CYP4H44P(Gen Bank accession number KF779932). The pseudogene has 1537 nucleotides and an open reading frame of 335 amino acids containing cytochrome P450 motifs except the Wxxx R motif. It is highly homologous to CYP4H28 and CYP4H28v2. Phylogenetic analysis and evolutionary divergence showed strong clustering with CYP4H28 alleles and least divergence from the alleles respectively. The deduced protein was predicted to be found in the cytoplasm and likely to be phosphorylated but devoid of signal peptide, transmembrane helix and O-glycosylated sites. The secondary and tertiary structures were also generated. Conclusions: A cytochrome P450 pseudogene, CYP4H44 P was cloned from Ae. aegypti. The pseudogene is homologous with CYP4H28 alleles and seems to have recently diverged from this group. Isolating this pseudogene is an important step for evaluating its biological role in the mosquito and for the evolutionary analysis of Ae. aegypti CYPs.
