Schwann cells, nerve regeneration promoters in peripheral nerve tissue engineering, can be used to repair both the peripheral and central nervous systems. However, isolation and puriifcation of Schwann cells are complicated by contamination with ifbroblasts. Current reported measures are mainly limited by either high cost or complicated procedures with low cell yields or purity. In this study, we collected dorsal root ganglia from neonatal rats from which we obtained highly puriifed Schwann cells using serum-free melanocyte culture medium. The purity of Schwann cells （〉95%） using our method was higher than that using standard medium containing fetal bovine serum. The obtained Schwann cells were implanted into poly（lactic-co-glycolic acid）/chi-tosan conduits to repair 10-mm sciatic nerve defects in rats. Results showed that axonal diameter and area were signiifcantly increased and motor functions were obviously improved in the rat sciatic nerve tissue. Experimental ifndings suggest that serum-free melanocyte culture medium is conducive to purify Schwann cells and poly（lactic-co-glycolic acid）/chitosan nerve conduits combined with Schwann cells contribute to restore sciatic nerve defects.

Neuroinflammation mediated by microglia and oxidative stress play pivotal roles in the development of chronic temporal lobe epilepsy(TLE).We postulated that kainic acid(KA)-Induced status epilepticus triggers microglia-dependent inflammation,leading to neuronal damage,a lowered seizure threshold,and the emergence of spontaneous recurrent seizures(SRS).Extensive evidence from our laboratory suggests that dextromethorphan(DM),even in ultra-low doses,has anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective effects in many animal models of neurodegenerative *** results showed that administration of DM(10 ng/kg per day;subcutaneously via osmotic minipump for 4 weeks)significantly mitigated the residual effects of KA,including the frequency of SRS and seizure *** addition,DM-treated rats showed improved cognitive function and reduced hippocampal neuronal *** found suppressed microglial activation-mediated neuroinflammation and decreased expression of hippocampal gp91^(phox) and p47^(phox) proteins in KA-induced chronic TLE ***,even after discontinuation of DM treatment,ultra-low doses of DM continued to confer long-term anti-seizure and neuroprotective effects,which were attributed to the inhibition of microglial NADPH oxidase 2 as revealed by mechanistic studies.

Controlled Microstructure and Photochromism of Inorganic-organic Thin Films by Ultrasound

A series of inorganic-organic thin films based on uniformly dispersed nanoparticles of polyoxometalates （POM）entrapped in polyacrylamide （PAM） matrix were prepared by ultrasonic method with different irradiation *** microstructure, photochromic behavior and mechanism of the films were studied by transmission electron microscopy （TEM）, ultraviolet-visible spectra （UV-VIS） and Fourier transform-infrared spectroscopy （FT-IR）.The microstructure and photochromic properties of the hybrid thin films could be controlled by *** image revealed that the average size of phosphotungstic acid （PWA） nanoparticles decreased from 20 to 10 nm with the ultrasound irradiation time from 30 to 60 min. After irradiated with ultraviolet light,the transparent films changed from colorless to blue and showed reversible photochromism. The hybrid film, with ultrasound irradiation for 60 min had higher photochromic efficiency and faster bleaching reaction than the one with ultrasound irradiation for 30 min. FT-IR spectra showed that the Keggin geometry of heteropolyoxometalate was still preserved inside the composites, and the interactions between polyanions and polymer matrix increased as the ultrasound time prolonged. It is suggested that the mechanism of the different photochromic properties for the inorganic-organic thin films is the variation of the microstructure and interfacial interactions induced by ultrasound.

The investigation of Morinda officinalis led to the isolation of twelve compounds(1-12),including three new iridoid glycosides morindallns A-C(1-3)and nine known compounds(4-12).Their structural identifications were conducted using HRMS,1D and 2D NMR,and electronic circular dichroism(ECD)spectra as well as quantum chemical *** 6 displayed the most significantly agonistic activity against farnesoid X receptor(FXR)with an EC_(50) value of 7.18 μM,and its agonistic effect was verified through the investigation of FXR downstream target genes including small heterodimer partner 1(SHP1),bile salt export pump(BSEP),and organic solute transporter subunit alpha and beta(OSTα and OSTβ).The potential interaction of compound 6 with FXR was analyzed by molecular docking and molecular dynamics stimulation,revealing that amino acid residues Leu287;Thr288,and Ser332 played a crucial role in the activation of compound 6 towards *** findings suggested that compound 6 could be regarded as a potential candidate for the development of FXR agonists.

A free triangular jet(TJ1)and its counterpart initially passing a short circular chamber(TJ2)are numerically modeled using large eddy simulation(LES).This paper compares the near-field characteristics of the two jets in *** enable some necessary experimental validations,the LES conditions of TJ1 and TJ2 are taken to be identical to those measured by Xu et al.(*** Phys.561176(2013))and England et al.(***.4869(2010)),*** LES predictions are found to agree well with those *** is demonstrated that a strong swirl occurs near the chamber inlet plane for the TJ2 *** the center of the swirl,there is a cluster of three sink foci,where each focus is aligned midway between the original triangular *** the vortex skeleton constructed from the time-averaged flow field,the vortices arising from the foci are helically twisted around the core of the *** the flow passes through the chamber,the foci merge to form a closed-loop“bifurcation line”,which separates the inward swirling flow and the outward oscillating *** global oscillation is regarded as a source node near the centerline of the *** the chamber is removed for a“free”jet,i.e.,TJ1,a cluster of three pairs of counter-rotating foci is produced and the net swirl circulation is zero,so the overall oscillation of the jet does not occur.

Cloning and Expression Analysis of p26 Gene in Artemia sinica

The protein p26 is a small heat shock protein that functions as a molecular chaperone to protect embryos by preventing irreversible protein damage during embryonic development. A 542 bp fragment of the p26 gene was cloned and sequenced. The fragment encoded 174 amino acid residues and the amino acid sequence contained the α-crystallin domain. Phylogenetic analysis showed that eight Artemia populations were divided into four major groups. Artemia sinica (YC) belonged to the East Asia bisexual group. Expression of the p26 gene at different developmental stages ofA. sinica was quantified using real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction followed by cloning and sequencing. The relationship between the quantity of p26 gene expression and embryonic development was analyzed. The results indicated that massive amounts of p26 were expressed during the development of A. sinica. At the developmental stage of 0 h, A. sinica expressed the highest level of p26. As development proceeded, expression levels of the p26 gene reduced significantly. There was a small quantity of p26 gene expression at the developmental stages of 16 h and 24 h. We concluded that p26 might be involved in protecting the embryo from physiological stress during embryonic development.

Study on the properties of a ε-Fe_3N-based magnetic lubricant prepared by DBD plasma

The ε-Fe3N-based magnetic lubricant which is stable and high saturation magnetization has been prepared by a homemade DBD device under the atmospheric pressure. The results show that the NH3 flow rate, the applied peak-to-peak voltage and the mass ratio of surfactant and carrier lubricant have important effects on the phase structure, the magnetic properties, the size of ferroparticles and the stability of the ε-Fe3N-based magnetic lubricant. TEM images show the e-Fe3N ferroparticles are dispersed in the carrier lubricant homogeneously, and the cluster phenomenon is not observed. The stable e-Fe3N-based magnetic lubricant with the saturation magnetization of 50.11 mT and the mean ferroparticle size of 11 nm is prepared successfully. The main particles of the atmospheric-pressure Ar/NH3/Fe（CO）5 DBD plasma are NH, N, N＋, Fe, N2, Ar, Ha, and CO; NH is a decomposition product of NH3. Fe and N active radicals are two elementary species in the preparation of the c-Fe3N-based magnetic lubricant in the atmospheric-pressure DBD plasma. There are two discharge modes for DBD plasma, namely, multi-pulse APGD and filamentary discharge. By increasing the applied peak-to-peak voltage from 4600 to 7800 V, the discharge mode is changed from single-pulse APGD with filamentary discharge to two-pulse APGD with filamentary discharge, and the Lissajous figure also converts from a quadrilateral with one step to two steps on the right-hand side.

Effect of Winglet Geometry Arrangement and Incidence on Tip Clearance Control in a Compressor Cascade

An experimental study is conducted to investigate the influences of blade tip winglet on the flow field of a compressor cascade. The tests are performed in a low speed linear cascade with stationary endwall, with three blade tip configurations, including the baseline tip, the suction-side winglet tip and the pressure-side winglet tip. The fiowfield downstream of the cascade is measured using five-hole probe, from which the three-dimensional velocity field, vorticity field and pressure field are obtained. Static pressure measurements are made on the endwall above the blade row using pressure taps embedded in the plywood endwall. All measurements are made at both design and off-design conditions for tip clearance level of about 2 percent of the blade chord. The results revealed the incidence variation significantly affects the secondary flow and the associated loss field downstream of the cascade, where the tip leakage vortex and passage vortex exist as the major contributors on the field. The winglet geometry arrangements can change the trajectory of the tip leakage vortex. The suction-side winglet tip blade provides a lower overall total pressure loss coefficient when compared to the baseline tip blade and pressure-side winglet tip blade at all incidence angles.

SrTiO3 is a promising candidate photocatalyst for overall water *** suitable cocatalysts,such as NiOx,the mixture of Ni and NiO,remarkably improve the photocatalytic ***,spatial locations and functions of components in NiOx/SrTiO3 are under ***,using first-principles density functional theory(DFT)calculations,we investigate the initial growth of Nin(n=1–4)and(NiO)n(n=1,2 and 4)clusters on stoichiometric(100)surfaces of SrTiO3,and explore interfacial and electronic structures of composite *** is found that Nin clusters are easier to undergo aggregation on SrO-termination than on *** adsorption of Nincluster on(100)surfaces elevates the Fermi level towards the conduction band,which may benefit the occurrence of hydrogen evolution *** structural similarity between(NiO)n cluster and surface has an essential effect on the most stable adsorption ***(NiO)n/SrTiO3 systems,the occupied states of(NiO)n cluster well overlap with those of(100)surfaces in the valence band maximum,which is in favor of the separation of photogenerated electrons and holes to SrTiO3 support and(NiO)n cluster,*** detailed DFT analysis provides important insights into the growth of NiOx on surfaces of SrTiO3and presents an explanation on the different models of NiOx/SrTiO3 photocatalyst proposed by experimental *** calculations build a basis for further investigations on the mechanism of photocatalytic water-splitting reaction in NiOx/SrTiO3composite system.

Effect of tip geometry and tip clearance on aerodynamic performance of a linear compressor cascade

The tip leakage flow between a blade and a casing wall has a strong impact on compressor pressure rise capability, efficiency, and stability. Consequently, there is a strong motivation to look for means to minimize its impact on performance. This paper presents the potential of passive tip leakage flow control to increase the aerodynamic performance of highly loaded compressor blades. Experimental investigations on a linear compressor cascade equipped with blade winglets mounted to the blade tips have been carried out. Results for a variation of the tip clearance and the winglet geometry are presented. Current results indicate that the use of proper tip winglets in a compressor cascade can positively affect the local aerodynamic field by weakening the tip leakage vortex. Results also show that the suction-side winglets are aerodynamically superior to the pressure-side or combined winglets. The suction-side winglets are capable of reducing the exit total pressure loss associated with the tip leakage flow and the passage secondary flow to a significant degree.
