Maximizing biomass utilization: An integrated strategy for co.roducing multiple chemicals

Lignocellulosic biomass is one of the viable solutions to alleviate the global warming. However, the limited utilization of biomass majorly focused on cellulose and hemicellulose restricts the eco.omic and environmental feasibilities. To co.e with this issue, we proposed an integrated process of co.producing 1,6-hexanediol(1,6-HDO) with tetrahydrofuran and adipic acid from biomass, referred to as Strategy A. To co.pare the impacts of lignin upgrading and feedstock, Strategy B, which co.produces tetrahydrofuran alone, and Strategy C, which is the traditional route to produce 1,6-HDO from fossil fuels, were used. Heat networks are also designed to reduce operating co.ts and indirect carbon emissions due to energy co.sumption, saving 87% and 83% of the heat and co.ling requirements, respectively, in Strategy A. The market co.petitiveness of Strategy A was evaluated by determining the minimum selling price through techno-eco.omic analysis, and sustainability was thoroughly investigated by quantifying the environmental impacts through both midpoint and endpoint life-cycle assessments(LCAs).Strategy A was found to be the most favorable both eco.omically(USRDSCHARDOLLAR3,402/ton) and environmentally(-26.9 kg co.(2)eq.). This indicates that lignin valorization is not only eco.omically but also environmentally preferred. Finally, changes in eco.omic and environmental feasibilities depending on eco.omic, process, and environmental parameters were investigated using sensitivity and uncertainty analyses. The results of these analyses provide valuable insight into bio-based chemical production.

Flexible Zn-based batteries have attracted increasing research interest as essential co.ponents of wearable energy storage ***,the advancement of flexible aqueous Zn-based batteries based on co.Ni layered double hydroxide (co.i-LDH) as the cathode material is hampered by their poor cycling stability and the co.rosiveness of alkaline ***,co.i-LDH nanosheets enriched with H vacancies (co.i-LDH(v)) were co.structed on a flexible carbon cloth (CC) substrate via electrochemical deposition and *** Zn-based battery co.prising co.i-LDH(v)@CC as the cathode exhibited highly reversible co.version reactions and stable operation in 3 M ZnSO4electrolyte (pH=4).The battery delivered an excellent specific capacity (225 mA h g^(-1),0.26 mA h cm^(-2)),acceptable cycling stability(53.9%,900 cycles),and high discharging *** abundant H vacancies served as active sites for the reversible intercalation of Zn^(2+)and the extravasation of NO_(3)-generated channels and space for Zn^(2+)transport and storage,together enabling an excellent Zn^(2+)storage ***,a sandwich-structured solid-state co.i-LDH(v)@CC//Zn@CC battery was fabricated and was found to exhibit a noteworthy electrochemical performance and mechanical *** a proof of co.cept,the unencapsulated battery powered a digital watch under various deformation co.ditions and operated stably for 80 ***,the flexible battery displayed outstanding customizability,maintaining an open-circuit voltage of 1.42 V even after being cut *** proposed engineering strategy co.tributes to the realization of textiles with truly wearable energy-storage devices.

Power interco.nected system clustering with advanced fuzzy C-mean algorithm

An advanced fuzzy C-mean （FCM） algorithm was proposed for the efficient regional clustering of multi-nodes interco.nected systems. Due to various locational prices and regional co.erencies for each node and point, modified similarity measure was co.sidered to gather nodes having similar characteristics. The similarity measure was needed to co.tain locafi0nal prices as well as regional co.erency. In order to co.sider the two properties simultaneously, distance measure of fuzzy C-mean algorithm had to be modified. Regional clustering algorithm for interco.nected power systems was designed based on the modified fuzzy C-mean algorithm. The proposed algorithm produces proper classification for the interco.nected power system and the results are demonstrated in the example of IEEE 39-bus interco.nected electricity system.

Effect of Si co.tent on Mechanical Properties of a Mo and V Free Low Alloy Cast Steel for Automobile co.d Pressing Die

The effects of Si co.tent on co.binations of important properties such as hardness, hardenability, and weldability in addition to strength increment were systematically investigated to develop a Mo and V free low alloy cast steel for automobile co.d pressing die insert. For the evaluation of the applicability as the die insert, the mechanical properties were measured after spheroidization annealing （SA）, quenching and tempering （Q/T）, and flame hardening （FH） treatments, respectively. The developed 0.8%-1.6%Si co.taining Mo and V free alloy cast steels showed excellent matrix strengthening effect, hardenability, and weldability, fulfilling the industrial criterion of the mechanical properties for the die insert.

Bluish-green emission of novel BaAl_(2)Ge_(2)O_(8):Eu^(2+) phosphors under near-ultraviolet excitation

A new class of phosphor samples,denoted as Ba_(1-x)Al_(2)Ge_(2)O_(8):xEu^(2+)(BAGO:xEu^(2+))was synthesized using a Pechini-type sol-gel technique and subsequent thermal reduction in co.*** morphology and structural characteristics of both the BAGO host lattice and the Eu^(2+)ions activated BAGO phosphors were investigated through field-emission scanning electron microsco.y and X-ray diffractometry analyses,*** BAGO host lattice has micro-sized particles and the Rietveld refinement reveals the presence of a monoclinic crystal phase,characterized by the space group I2/c(No.15).Introducing Eu^(2+)ions into Ba^(2+)sites under co.co.dition reduces the particle size,switching from microscale to *** the near-ultraviolet spectrum(353 nm),the BAGO:xEu^(2+)phosphors exhibit a broadband bluish-green photoluminescence(PL)emission characterized by a peak band at 492 *** phenomenon is attributed to the 4f^(6)5d^(1)→4f^(7) electronic *** BAGO:0.02Eu^(2+)phosphor shows the strongest bluish-green PL emission,and a co.mprehensive description of the co.centration quenching mechanism between Eu^(2+)ions is ***,the thermal stability of the optimized BAGO:0.02Eu^(2+)phosphor was investigated,and its activation energy was ***,the synthesized bluish-green BAGO:0.02Eu^(2+)phosphor holds the promise of being a novel and potential candidate for utilization in white light-emitting diode applications.

Enhancement of Performance by Blade Optimization in Two-Stage Ring Blower

This paper describes the shape optimization of an impeller used for two-stage high pressure ring *** shape variables,which are used to define an impeller shape,are introduced to increase the blower *** pressure of a blower is selected as an object function,and the blade optimization is performed by a response surface ***-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations are introduced to analyze the internal flow of the blower and to find the value of object function for the training *** good agreement between experimental measurements and numerical simulation is obtained in the present *** the shape optimization,it is found that a hub height is effective to increase pressure in the ring *** pressure rise for the optimal two-stage ring blower is successfully increased up to 1.86% co.pared with that of reference at the design flow *** recirculation flow having low velocity is formed in both sides of the impeller outlet by different flow direction of the inlet and outlet of the *** flow field inside the ring blower is also analyzed and discussed.

Effects of dispersoid preforming via multistep sintering of oxide dispersion-strengthened co.rFeMnNi high-entropy alloy

Dispersoid formation and microstructural evolution in an oxide dispersion-strengthened co.rFeMnNi high-entropy alloy(HEA)using a newly designed multistep sintering process are *** proposed multistep sintering co.sists of a dispersoid preforming heat treatment of as-milled 0.1 wt%Y_(2)O_(3)-co.rFeMnNi high-entropy alloy powders at 800℃,followed by sintering at 800–1000℃ under uniaxial *** the co.ventional single-step sintered bulk,the co.rsened BCC Y_(2)O_(3)dispersoids mainly form with an inco.erent interface with the HEA *** co.trast,finer FCC Y_(2)O_(3)dispersoids,an atypical form of Y_(2)O_(3),are formed in the matrix region after multistep *** of FCC Y_(2)O_(3)disper-soids is initiated on the favorable facet,the{111}plane of the austenitic matrix,with the formation of a semi-co.erent interface with the matrix during the dispersoid preforming heat treatment and it maintains its refined size even after *** is found that dispersoid preforming prior to sintering appears promising to co.trol the finer dispersoid formation and refined grain structure.

Biomineralization has garnered significant attention in the field of wastewater treatment due to its notable co.t reduction co.pared to co.ventional *** reinjection water from oilfields co.taining an exceedingly high co.centration of calcium and ferric ions will pose amajor hazard in ***,the utilization of biomineralization for precipitating these ions has been scarcely investigated due to limited tolerance among halophiles towards such extreme *** this study,free and immobilized halophiles Virgibacillus dokdonensis were used to precipitate these ions and the effects were co.pared,at the same time,biomineralizationmechanisms and mineral characteristicswere further *** results showthat bacterial co.centration and carbonic anhydrase activitywere higher when additionally adding ferric ion based on calcium ion;the co.tent of protein,polysaccharides,deoxyribonucleic acid and humic substances in the extracellular polymers also increased co.pared to *** ions were biomineralized into calcite and vaterite with mul-tiple *** to iron doping,the crystallinity and thermal stability of calcium carbonate decreased,the co.tent of O-C=O,N-C=OandC-O-PO_(3) increased,the stable carbon isotope values became much more negative,andβ-sheet in minerals *** calcium co.centrations facilitated ferric ion precipitation,while ferric ions hindered calcium *** immobilized bacteria performed better in ferric ion removal,with a precipitation ratio exceeding 90%.Free bacteria performed better in calcium removal,and the precipitation ratio reached a maximum of 56%.This research maybe provides some reference for the co.removal of calcium and ferric ions from the oilfield wastewater.
