Climate Services Elaboration for Cocoa Cultivation in Côte d’Ivoire: Contribution of CORdEX Climate Projections

This study assessed the contribution of climate projections to improving rainfall information for cocoa crops in the central and southern regions of Côte d’Ivoire. Particular attention was paid to fourteen localities in these two climatic zones. Simulation data were obtained from the CORdEX ensemble and observation data from CHIRPS. They cover the period 1991-2005 for the reference period and the future period from 2021 to 2050 for the RCP4.5 and RCP8.5 scenarios. In addition, the study was based on the water requirements necessary during the critical phase of the cocoa tree (the flowering phase) for a good yield from the cocoa production chain on the one hand, and on a selection of three climate indices Cdd, CWd and r95PTOT to study their spatio-temporal changes over two future periods 2021-2035 (near future) and 2036-2050 (medium-term) on the other. These climatic indices influence cocoa cultivation and their use in studies of climatic impacts on agriculture is of prime importance. The analysis of their spatio-temporal changes in this work also contributes to providing climate services based on rainfall, to which cocoa crops are highly sensitive. Our results show that the Cdd and CWd indices vary from one region to another depending on latitude. for the fourteen localities studied, the number of consecutive dry days (Cdd) could increase between now and 2050, while the number of consecutive wet days (CWd) could decrease over the period 2021-2035 and then increase over the period 2036-2050. The localities of Tabou, Aboisso and San-Pedro record high numbers of Cdd index and CWd index for both projection scenarios. In comparison with the RCP4.5 and RCP8.5 scenarios, these results show that the RCP8.5 scenarios are having an impact on cocoa growing in Côte d’Ivoire.

Application of dynamic programming algorithm in winter heating control of greenhouse

In order to solve the immaturity of decision-making methods in the regulation of winter heating in greenhouses,this study proposed a solution to the problem of greenhouse winter heating regulation using a dynamic programming algorithm.A mathematical model that included indoor environmental state variables,optimization decision variables,and outdoor random variables was *** temperature is kept close to the expected value and the energy consumption is *** model predicts the control solution by considering the cost function within the next 10 *** two-stage planning method was used to optimize the state of each moment step by *** temperature control strategy model was obtained by training the relationship between indoor temperature,outdoor temperature,and heating time after optimization using a regression *** on a typical Internet of Things(IoT)structure,the greenhouse control system was designed to regulate the optimal control according to the feedback of the current *** testing and verification,the optimized control method could stabilize the temperature near the target *** to the threshold control(threshold interval of 2.0°C)under similar weather conditions,the optimized control method reduced the temperature fluctuation range by 0.9°C and saved 7.83 kW·h of electricity,which is about 14.56%of the total experimental electricity *** shows that the dynamic programming method is feasible for environmental regulation in actual greenhouse production,and further research can be expanded in terms of decision variables and policy models to achieve a more comprehensive,scientific,and precise regulation.

Novel silver nanoparticles loaded Cu-based metal organic framework as a promising antimicrobial material for controlling Escherichia coli O157:H7 in pork

The risk of infection following consumption of foodborne pathogens contaminated foods became a significant concern for human health and imposes great economic losses to food industry. Herein， Ag nanoparticles were integrated to Cu-based metal–organic framework (Cu-MOf) for antibacterial activity. The crystal structure， morphology and composition of the prepared composite Ag@Cu-MOf were confirmed by XRd， TG， SEM， TEM， fTIR and XPS analysis. Antibacterial assays revealed that Ag@Cu-MOf exhibited increased inhibitory activity against Escherichia coli O157:H7 in comparison to Cu-MOf. Ag@Cu-MOf treated bacterial cells displayed distinct morphological changes， a decreased ratio of Live/dead cells， as well as a reduction of intracellular adenosine 5’-triphosphate (ATP). Antibiofilm studies demonstrated that Ag@Cu-MOf could dramatically inhibit biofilm formation and disrupt preformed biofilms by interfering the metabolic activity and decreasing the expression of biofilm-associated genes. food contamination model illustrated that Ag@Cu-MOf significantly prevented the growth of E. coli O157:H7 in packed pork. This study sheds light on the potential of Ag@Cu-MOf as a promising antimicrobial material for preserving pork.

Yr5-virulent races of Puccinia striiformis *** possess relative parasitic fitness higher than current main predominant races and potential risk

Wheat stripe rust,caused by Puccinia striiformis ***(Pst),is one of the most destructive fungal diseases of wheat,and seriously threatens safe production of the crop *** China,new races historically appeared and rapidly developed to be predominant races and have resulted in ineffectiveness and replacement of wheat resistance cultivars as well as massive reduction in *** the present study,the relative parasitic fitness of the two newlyemerged Yr5-virulent races(TSA-6 and TSA-9)were compared with those of four currently predominant Chinese races(CYR31,CYR32,CYR33,and CYR34)based on evaluation on 10 Chinese wheat *** a result,there were significant differences in the relative parasitic fitness parameters among overall tested races based on multiple comparison(LSd)analysis(Pf overall parasitic fitness parameters indicated that the sporulation ability,infection and spore survivability,expansion capacity,and potential pathogenicity were the most important parasitic fitness attributes of the tested *** on the establishment of extracted three principal components and a comprehensive factor score mathematical models,evaluations of the parasitic fitness attributes of tested races showed that the level of relative parasitic fitness of the tested six races was:CYR32(1.15)>TSA-9(0.95)>TSA-6(0.92)>CYR34(0.29)>CYR31(–1.54)>CYR33(–1.77).The results indicated that two Yr5-virulent races TSA-9 and TSA-6 possessed relative parasitic fitness higher than races CYR34,CYR31,and CYR33,but lower than race CYR32,and have potential risks in developing to be predominant ***,continual monitoring of both Yr5-virulent races,and their variants is *** use of wheat cultivars(lines)with Yr5 resistance gene singly in wheat breeding is essential for being avoided,and is suggested to combine with other effective stripe rust resistance genes.

Spectral purification improves monitoring accuracy of the comprehensive growth evaluation index for film-mulched winter wheat

In order to further improve the utility of unmanned aerial vehicle(UAV)remote-sensing for quickly and accurately monitoring the growth of winter wheat under film mulching, this study examined the treatments of ridge mulching,ridge–furrow full mulching, and flat cropping full mulching in winter *** on the fuzzy comprehensive evaluation (fCE) method, four agronomic parameters (leaf area index, above-ground biomass, plant height, and leaf chlorophyll content) were used to calculate the comprehensive growth evaluation index (CGEI) of the winter wheat, and 14 visible and near-infrared spectral indices were calculated using spectral purification technology to process the remote-sensing image data of winter wheat obtained by multispectral *** machine learning algorithms, partial least squares, support vector machines, random forests, and artificial neural network networks(ANN), were used to build the winter wheat growth monitoring model under film mulching, and accuracy evaluation and mapping of the spatial and temporal distribution of winter wheat growth status were carried *** results showed that the CGEI of winter wheat under film mulching constructed using the fCE method could objectively and comprehensively evaluate the crop growth *** accuracy of remote-sensing inversion of the CGEI based on the ANN model was higher than for the individual agronomic parameters, with a coefficient of determination of 0.75,a root mean square error of 8.40, and a mean absolute value error of *** purification could eliminate the interference of background effects caused by mulching and soil, effectively improving the accuracy of the remotesensing inversion of winter wheat under film mulching, with the best inversion effect achieved on the ridge–furrow full mulching area after spectral *** results of this study provide a theoretical reference for the use of UAV remote-sensing to monitor the growth status of winter wheat with film mulching.

Antibiotic resistance has become a major threat to human health worldwide. Environment, particularly the water environment, has long been overlooked as a player in the antibiotic resistance cycle, although its role remains unclear. These can provide an ideal setting for the acquisition and dissemination of antibiotic resistance, as they are frequently affected by anthropogenic activities. The objective of this study was to establish a diffusion map of resistance integrons used as genetic markers of resistance associated with antibiotic resistance conferring genes (ARGs). Total dNA extracts from non-cultivable bacterial communities were used for the analyses. These communities were obtained from wastewater samples from 14 sites upstream and downstream of drainage channels or effluents in the cities of Abidjan, Bouaké, and Yamoussoukro. The results obtained correspond to the number of positives among the treated samples (n = 39). Among the genetic markers of dissemination, class 1 integrons were the most evident in 94.8% of samples in Abidjan (93.3%), Bouaké (100%) and Yamoussoukro (91.6%). Class 2 integrons and class 3 integrons were found respectively in 41% and 51% of all samples. Genes coding for β-lactamases and blaTEM was identified in almost all samples at a rate of 97.4%. A co-presence of the three genes blaTEM, blaSHV and blaCTX-M is also remarkable in the sites of the city of Yamoussoukro. Among the genes coding for carbapenemases, only blaKPC 17.94%, blaNdM 30.76% and blaOXA48 38.46% were detected in the samples.

Mechanisms of vacuolar phosphate efflux supporting soybean root hair growth in response to phosphate deficiency

Phosphorus is an essential macronutrient for plant growth and *** response to phosphate(Pi)deficiency,plants rapidly produce a substitutive amount of root hairs;however,the mechanisms underlying Pi supply for root hair growth remain ***,we observed that soybean(Glycine max)plants maintain a consistent level of Pi within root hairs even under external Pi *** therefore investigated the role of vacuole-stored Pi,a major Pi reservoir in plant cells,in supporting root hair growth under Pi-deficient *** findings indicated that two vacuolar Pi efflux(VPE)transporters,GmVPE1 and GmVPE2,remobilize vacuolar stored Pi to sustain cytosolic Pi content in root hair *** analysis showed that double mutants of GmVPE1 and GmVPE2 exhibited reduced root hair growth under low Pi ***,GmVPE1 and GmVPE2 were highly expressed in root hairs,with their expression levels significantly upregulated by low Pi *** analysis revealed that GmRSL2(ROOT HAIR dEfECTIVE 6-like 2),a transcription factor involved in root hair morphogenesis,directly binds to the promoter regions of GmVPE1 and GmVPE2,and promotes their expressions under low Pi ***,mutants lacking both GmRSL2 and its homolog GmRSL3 exhibited impaired root hair growth under low Pi stress,which was rescued by overexpressing either GmVPE1 or *** together,our study has identified a module comprising vacuolar Pi exporters and transcription factors responsible for remobilizing vacuolar Pi to support root hair growth in response to Pi deficiency in soybean.

Eco-Epidemiological Characteristics of Human rabies in Côte d’Ivoire, 2012-2017

Introduction: Human rabies is a major public health problem in many African countries, including Côte d’Ivoire. The present work aims at describing the eco-epidemiological characteristics of human rabies cases recorded in Côte d’Ivoire. Methods: This was a retrospective and prospective cross-sectional descriptive study based on epidemiological surveillance data that ran from september 2014 to december 2017. The clinical data were extracted from the database of the human rabies epidemiological surveillance management service of the National Institute of Public Hygiene’s rabies centre. These data cover the period from 1 January 2012 to 31 december 2017. Results: Human rabies is endemic in Côte d’Ivoire, with most people exposed in the south and especially in the west of the country. There was no association between any of the climatological parameters (temperature, humidity, rainfall) and the occurrence of human rabies during the months of exposure to rabies infection. Conclusion: Ultimately, effective prevention and control of human rabies requires a thorough understanding of the links between climatological parameters and rabies. Health authorities must take ownership of these results if we are to achieve our goal of eliminating rabies by 2030.
