An innovative heterogeneous transfer learning framework to enhance the scalability of deep reinforcement learning controllers in buildings with integrated energy systems

Deep Reinforcement Learning(DRL)-based control shows enhanced performance in the management of integrated energy systems when compared with Rule-Based Controllers(RBCs),but it still lacks scalability and generalisation due to the necessity of using tailored models for the training *** Learning(TL)is a potential solution to address this ***,existing TL applications in building control have been mostly tested among buildings with similar features,not addressing the need to scale up advanced control in real-world scenarios with diverse energy *** paper assesses the performance of an online heterogeneous TL strategy,comparing it with RBC and offline and online DRL controllers in a simulation setup using EnergyPlus and *** study tests the transfer in both transductive and inductive settings of a DRL policy designed to manage a chiller coupled with a Thermal Energy Storage(TES).The control policy is pre-trained on a source building and transferred to various target buildings characterised by an integrated energy system including photovoltaic and battery energy storage systems,different building envelope features,occupancy schedule and boundary conditions(e.g.,weather and price signal).The TL approach incorporates model slicing,imitation learning and fine-tuning to handle diverse state spaces and reward functions between source and target *** show that the proposed methodology leads to a reduction of 10% in electricity cost and between 10% and 40% in the mean value of the daily average temperature violation rate compared to RBC and online DRL ***,online TL maximises self-sufficiency and self-consumption by 9% and 11% with respect to ***,online TL achieves worse performance compared to offline DRL in either transductive or inductive ***,offline Deep Reinforcement Learning(DRL)agents should be trained at least for 15 episodes to reach the same level of performance as the online

Ion heat transport in electron cyclotron resonance heated L-mode plasma on the T-10 tokamak

Anomalous ion heat transport is analyzed in the T-10 tokamak plasma heated with electron cyclotron resonance heating(ECRH) in second-harmonic extra-ordinary mode. Predictive modeling with empirical scaling for Ohmical heat conductivity shows that in ECRH plasmas the calculated ion temperature could be overestimated, so an increase of anomalous ion heat transport is required. To study this effect two scans are presented: over the EC resonance position and over the ECRH power. The EC resonance position varies from the high-field side to the low-field side by variation of the toroidal magnetic field. The scan over the heating power is presented with on-axis and mixed ECRH regimes. Discharges with high anomalous ion heat transport are obtained in all considered regimes. In these discharges the power balance ion heat conductivity exceeds the neoclassical level by up to 10 times. The high ion heat transport regimes are distinguished by three parameters: the ratio Te/Ti, the normalized electron density gradient R/■, and the ion–ion collisionality νii~*. The combination of high Te/Ti, high νii~*, and R/■=6-10 results in values of normalized anomalous ion heat fluxes up to 10 times higher than in the low transport scenario.

Effect of ion and electron beam irradiation on surface morphology and optical properties of PVA

Polyvinyl alcohol(PVA) is a well-known friendly polymer for paper-making, textiles, and a variety of coatings, biomedical applications such as artificial pancreas, synthetic vitreous body, wound dressing, artificial skin,and cardiovascular device. In this paper, ion/electron beam is employed to get insight into the irradiation effect on surface morphology and optical properties of PVA polymer. UV-Vis spectra are recorded to investigate the effect of induced defects on the optical band gap and the formed carbon clusters size. Scanning electron microscopy(SEM) is used to relate and investigate surface morphology and optical properties of the target polymer with different doses(15, 30 and 60 min). Also, PVA polymer is subjected to theoretical studies by using semi-empirical PM7 quantum chemical method.

A high-throughput framework for determining adsorption energies on solid surfaces

In this work,we present a high-throughput workflow for calculation of adsorption energies on solid surfaces using density functional *** open-source computational tools from the Materials project infrastructure,we automate the procedure of constructing symmetrically distinct adsorbate configurations for arbitrary *** algorithms are further used to construct and run workflows in a standard,automated way such that user intervention in the simulation procedure is *** validate our approach,we compare results from our workflow to previous experimental and theoretical benchmarks from the CE27 database of chemisorption energies on solid *** benchmarks also illustrate how the task of performing and managing over 200 individual density functional theory calculations may be reduced to a single submission procedure and subsequent *** enabling more efficient high-throughput computations of adsorption energies,these tools will accelerate theory-guided discovery of advanced materials for applications in catalysis and surface science.

Study on the impact of window shades’physical characteristics and opening modes on air conditioning energy consumption in China

This paper focused on the impact of window shades’physical characteristics and opening modes on annual air conditioning energy consumption of residential buildings in *** building models with different window layouts were proposed initially,and then validated by the dimensionless indicator annual energy performance(AEP)to determine the final building model adopted in this ***,Beijing,Guangzhou,Changsha and Kunming were selected to represent five different climate zones in *** shading model has taken six physical characteristics of window shades,*** emissivity,inner emissivity,solar transmittance,solar reflectance,thermal infrared transmittance,conductivity and two opening modes,***&down mode as well as left&right mode,into ***,the window shades operation schedule was summarized through 949 valid *** annual air conditioning energy consumption was calculated via EnergyPlus software,and then the impact of the above different opening modes and parameters on energy use were *** analysis results indicated that the top&bottom opening mode is better than the left&right mode when used in Harbin,and the effect of two different modes in air conditioning energy consumption in Kunming is *** in the other three cities,the left and right mode is ***,the analysis results of the impact of different physical characteristics on air conditioning energy use in different climate zones could help improve the energy performance of window shades.

Serotonin is one of the significant signaling molecules used by several neural systems in the gut and brain. This study aimed to develop a novel and potent tracer for targeting, detecting, and imaging serotonin receptors(5-HTRs), which is a promising tool in the determination of the receptor’s function and relationship with the diseases related to serotonin and its receptor dysfunction. Serotonin was effectively labeled via a direct electrophilic substitutional reaction using an oxidizing agent such as iodogen with 125I in a neutral medium, and 125I-serotonin was achieved with a maximum labeling yield of 91 ± 0.63% with in vitro stability up to 24 h. Molecular modeling was conducted to signify 125I-serotonin structure and confirm that the radiolabeling process did not affect serotonin binding ability to its receptors. Biodistribution studies show that the maximum gastro intestinal tract uptake of 125I-serotonin was 17.8 ± 0.93% ID/organ after 30 min postinjection and the tracer’s ability to pass the blood–brain barrier. Thus, 125I-serotonin is a promising single photon emission computed tomography tracer in the detection of 5 HTRs.

Study on gamma response function of EJ301 organic liquid scintillator with GEANT4 and FLUKA

The gamma response function is required for energy calibration of EJ301 （5 cm in diameter and 20 cm in height） organic liquid scintillator detector by means of gamma sources. The GEANT4 and FLUKA Monte Carlo simulation packages were used to simulate the response function of the detector for standard 22Na, 60Co, 137Cs gamma sources. The simulated results showed a good agreement with experimental data by incorporating the energy resolution function to simulation codes. The energy resolution and the position of the maximum Compton electron energy were obtained by comparing measured light output distribution with simulated one. The energy resolution of the detector varied from 21.2% to 12.4% for electrons in the energy region from 0.341 MeV to 1.12 MeV. The accurate position of the maximum Compton electron energy was determined at the position 81% of maximum height of Compton edges distribution. In addition, the relation of the electron energy calibration and the effective neutron detection thresholds were described in detail. The present results indicated that both packages were suited for studying the gamma response function of EJ301 detector.

Degeneracy and discreteness in cosmological model fitting

We explore the problems of degeneracy and discreteness in the standard cosmological model（ΛCDM）. We use the Observational Hubble Data（OHD） and the type Ia supernovae（SNe Ia） data to study this issue. In order to describe the discreteness in fitting of data, we define a factor G to test the influence from each single data point and analyze the goodness of G. Our results indicate that a higher absolute value of G shows a better capability of distinguishing models, which means the parameters are restricted into smaller confidence intervals with a larger figure of merit evaluation. Consequently, we claim that the factor G is an effective way of model differentiation when using different models to fit the observational data.

Poly(acrylamide-acrylic acid-dimethyl amino ethylmethacrylate), p(AM-AA-DMAEM) and Poly(acrylamide-acrylic acid)-ethylene diamine tetracetic acid disodium, p(AM-AA)-EDTANa2 were prepared by gamma radiation-induced template polymerization technique. The prepared polymeric materials were used for the sorption of Ga(III), Cu(II), Ni(II) and Zn(II) in aqueous solution. The effect of pH, weight of resins, metal ion concentrations and contact time on the sorption of these metal ions were studied.
