Chemical-assisted MMP reduction on methane-oil systems:Implications for natural gas injection to enhanced oil recovery

Miscible natural gas injection is widely considered as a practical and efficient enhanced oil recovery technique. However, the main challenge in this process is the high minimum miscibility pressure（MMP）between natural gas and crude oil, which limits its application and recovery factor, especially in hightemperature reservoirs. Therefore, we present a novel investigation to quantify the effect of chemicalassisted MMP reduction on the oil recovery factor. Firstly, we measured the interfacial tension（IFT） of the methane-oil system in the presence of chemical or CO2to calculate the MMP reduction at a constant temperature（373K） using the vanishing interfacial tension（VIT） method. Afterwards, we performed three coreflooding experiments to quantify the effect of MMP reduction on the oil recovery factor under different injection *** interfacial tension measurements show that adding a small fraction（1.5 wt%） of the tested surfactant（SOLOTERRA ME-6） achieved 9% of MMP reduction, while adding 20 wt% of CO2to the methane yields 13% of MMP reduction. Then, the coreflooding results highlight the significance of achieving miscibility during gas injection, as the ultimate recovery factor increased from 65.5% under immiscible conditions to 77.2% using chemical-assisted methane, and to 79% using gas mixture after achieving near miscible condition. The results demonstrate the promising potential of the MMP reduction to significantly increase the oil recovery factor during gas injection. Furthermore, these results will likely expand the application envelop of the miscible gas injection, in addition to the environmental benefits of utilizing the produced gas by re-injection/recycling instead of flaring which contributes to reducing the greenhouse gas emissions.

Evolution of Ordovician YJ1X ultra-deep oil reservoir in the Yuecan oilfield, Tarim Basin, NW China

Based on a combined in-situ calcite U-Pb dating, molecular geochemical correlations of reservoir oil and extract from reservoir rocks, and fluid inclusion analysis, the charge and evolution history of the YJ1X ultra-deep oil reservoir of the Ordovician Yijianfang Formation in the southwestern part of the Tabei Uplift has been determined systematically.(1) The reservoir oil, free oil and inclusion oil have similar geochemical characteristics and are presumably derived from marine source rock deposited in similar sedimentary environment.(2) The reservoir oil, free oil and inclusion oil have similar maturities with calculated equivalent vitrinite reflectance values in the range of 0.80%-0.96%.(3) Two types(Group Ⅰ and Ⅱ) of oil inclusion assemblages(OIAs) have been identified in the reservoir, of which Group Ⅰ represents the original gas-saturated oil entering the trap during the initial oil charge, whereas Group Ⅱ represents undersaturated residual oil retained in the reservoir after minor leakage of light hydrocarbon.(4) The reservoir experienced oil charge only once during the Early Devonian around 425 Ma and has been well preserved after the minor light hydrocarbon leakage in the Middle Devonian. The study shows that there may be old oil and gas accumulations in ultra-deep strata of petroliferous basins with well-developed caprock and stable tectonic background.

Stress dependence of elastic wave dispersion and attenuation in fluid-saturated porous layered media

The fluid-saturated porous layered(FSPL)media widely exist in the Earth's subsurface and their overall mechanical properties,microscopic pore structure and wave propagation characteristics are highly relevant to the in-situ ***,the effect of in-situ stress on wave propagation in FSPL media cannot be well explained with the existing *** fill this gap,we propose the dynamic equations for FSPL media under the effect of in-situ stress based on the theories of poroacoustoelasticity and anisotropic *** loss mechanism is considered to account for the stress-dependent wave dispersion and attenuation induced by global wave-induced fluid ***'s elastic anisotropy parameters are used to represent the anisotropy of the skeleton.A plane-wave analysis is implemented on dynamic equations yields the analytic solutions for fast and slow P waves and two S *** results show that the elastic anisotropy parameters significantly determine the stress dependence of wave *** tortuosity and permeability have remarkable effects on fast and slow P-wave velocity curves and the corresponding attenuation peaks but have little effect on S-wave *** difference in velocities of two S waves occurs when the FSPL medium is subjected to horizontal uniaxial stress,and the S wave along the stress direction has a larger velocity,which implies that the additional anisotropy other than that induced by the beddings appears due to horizontal ***,the predicted velocity results have the reasonable agreement with laboratory *** equations and results are relevant to a better understanding of wave propagation in deep strata,which provide some new theoretical insights in the rock physics,hydrocarbon exploration and stress detection in deep-strata shale reservoirs.

Patient, Provider and System Factors Impacting on the Diagnosis and management of Lung Cancer Care in Australia

Background: Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in Australia, with only modest improvements in survival. This study aims to identify factors impacting on diagnosis and management of lung cancer with particular reference to Australian primary care. Methods: A sequential mixed method modified approach employing interview and a two-phased survey technique. Following telephonic interviews with 31 health professionals (individuals representing general practitioners, specialized physicians, nurses and allied health practitioners), interview data was analysed using qualitative thematic analysis, and surveys using descriptive statistics. Emergent themes were organised under patient, provider and system factors. Interviews ceased upon saturation of data. Results: Multiple patient, provider and systems issues were seen to contribute to adverse health outcomes. There is a strong relationship between smoking and outcomes, and factors related to higher smoking rates such as a lower socioeconomic status. For smokers, guilt and/or denial was considered a reason for delay in the decision to seek medical care for cough or shortness of breath. Aboriginal people under-report morbidity related to smoking and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease;other patients fail to recognise the significance of their symptoms. Discussion: Despite the poor prognosis of lung cancer diagnosis, increased awareness of presentation and treatment options can address disparities in health outcomes.

oil palm biomass(OPB)represents major portion of the lignocellulosic waste in Malaysia that can be converted into *** review aims to provide important insights in OPB-derived bio-oil production by first discussing the chemical compositions of different OPB and their effects to the bio-oil yield and quality obtained from pyrolysis process,followed by discussing the addition of plastics and catalysts into the pyrolysis for bio-oil upgrading,and lastly summarizing the existing technoeconomic and environmental studies and the potential use of process integration and intensification in this ***(PP),low density polyethylene(LDPE),and high density polyethylene(HDPE)have been commonly used in co-pyrolysis of OPB,which can effectively increase the heating value of bio-oil up to 80%that of ***,acidic,basic,and neutral catalysts have been applied to increase the amount of hydrocarbon and phenol in the bio-oil,further improving the heating value to be comparable to *** bio-oil production from OPB is currently still limited to demonstration scale despite the favorable environmental compatibility and technoeconomic feasibility shown by studies focused on empty fruit bunch(EFB).Several promising advanced pyrolysis processes that integrate other processes such as anaerobic digestion,hydrogen production process,and heat and power generation units as well as the advanced reactor designs are also overviewed here as future innovation of the bio-oil production from OPB,which may play more significant role as the technology matures.

This study investigates tail dependence among five major cryptocurrencies,namely Bitcoin,Ethereum,Litecoin,Ripple,and Bitcoin Cash,and uncertainties in the gold,oil,and equity *** the cross-quantilogram method and quantile connectedness approach,we identify cross-quantile interdependence between the analyzed *** results show that the spillover between cryptocurrencies and volatility indices for the major traditional markets varies substantially across quantiles,implying that diversification benefits for these assets may differ widely across normal and extreme market *** normal market conditions,the total connectedness index is moderate and falls below the elevated values observed under bearish and bullish market ***,we show that under all market conditions,cryptocurrencies have a leadership influence over the volatility *** results have important policy implications for enhancing financial stability and deliver valuable insights for deploying volatility-based financial instruments that can potentially provide cryptocurrency investors with suitable hedges,as we show that cryptocurrency and volatility markets are insignificantly(weakly)connected under normal(extreme)market conditions.

Pilot plants of membrane technology in industry:Challenges and key learnings

Membrane technology holds great potential in gas separation applications,especially carbon dioxide capture from industrial *** achieve this potential,the outputs from global research endeavours into membrane technologies must be trialled in industrial processes,which requires membrane-based pilot *** pilot plants are critical to the commercialization of membrane technology,be it as gas separation membranes or membrane gas-solvent contactors,as failure at the pilot plant level may delay the development of the technology for ***,the author reports on his experience of operating membrane-based pilot plants for gas separation and contactor configurations as part of three industrial carbon capture initiatives:the Mulgrave project,H3 project and Vales Point ***,the challenges of developing and operating membrane pilot plants are presented,as well as the key learnings on how to successfully manage membrane pilot plants to achieve desired performance *** purpose is to assist membrane technologists in the carbon capture field to achieve successful outcomes for their technology innovations.

Brent prices and oil stock behaviors: evidence from Nigerian listed oil stocks
