Research on Dinoasur Footprints in Zizhou, Shaanxi Province, China

In recent years, the discoveries of dinosaur footprints have been successively reported from Dianshi Town, Zizhou City, Shaanxi Province. The footprints include the tracks of theropod, ornithopod and sauropod as well. Actually, the dinosaur footprints were found by local inhabitants much earlier in history, but not for science. The slabs bearing the dinosaur footprints were collected for domestic use, such as building stones, millstones, cellar covers, sheepfold fences, windlass holders, etc. This paper is to describe the dinosaur footprints on both sides of three slabs used for cellar covers, sheepfold fences and windlass holders by the local people. 24 dinosaur footprints and 4 trackways have been recognized and all of them belong to theropod. Four kinds of dinosaur footprints are identified, including 1 new ichnogenus and 2 new ichnospecies：（1） Shanbeipus caudatus ichnogen, et ichnosp, nov.; （2） Pengxianpus yulinensis ichnosp, nov.; （3） Eubrontes ichnosp; （4） Kayentapus ichnosp. Dinosaur-footprint-bearing beds were initially identified as the Fuxian Formation of the Lower Jurassic. Multipal dinosaur footprints associated with fragment plant fossils suggest a humid fluviolacustrine environment setting in the Ordos Basin during the early period of the Jurassic.

Australia is a large, old and flat island continent that became isolated following the breakup of the Gondwanan super continent. After more than 40-50 M years of independent evolution, approx. 600,000-700,000 species now call Australia home. More than 21,000 of these species are plants, with at least84% of these being endemic. Plant taxa are protected, conserved and managed under a range of legislation at the State-and Territory-level as well as Federally for matters of national significance. This can create issues of misalignment among threatened species lists but generally there is co-operation among conservation agencies to reduce misalignments and to manage species irrespective of jurisdictional borders. Despite significant investment in programs designed to assist the recovery of Australian biodiversity, threatened plants in particular appear to be continuing to decline. This can be attributed to a range of factors including major threatening processes associated with habitat loss and invasive species,lack of public awareness of the cultural and socio-economic value of plant conservation, and our relatively poor understanding of basic species taxonomy and biology, especially for those species that have specific interactions with pollinators, symbionts and herbivores. A recent shift in Federally-based conservation programs has been to identify 30 key plant species for recovery through the setting of measurable targets, improving the support provided to recovery teams and encouraging industry,business and philanthropy to support conservation actions.

Liu Fang Yuan at The Huntington--An Overview

Liu Fang Yuan is a classical Chinese Garden, the Garden of Flowing Fragrance, a most remarkable project in Huntington. This project was conceived by James Folsom. It is an international business venture, complex construction project, unique China-US collaboration, and center of cultural memory. Inspired by the centuries-old Chinese tradition of private gardens, Liu Fang Yuan combines the scenic beauty of nature with the expressiveness of literature to give deeper meaning to the landscape. True to the authentic nature of a Chinese garden, the design respects the site. It extends to adapting some of the traditional elements of Chinese garden design to meet local needs for seismic safety and wheelchair accessibility. Liu Fang Yuan is the only truly seasonal garden at the Huntington, emphasizing and symbolizing the progression of winter, spring, summer, and autumn. The visitor experiences more than the visual realm. The garden’s name, Liu Fang Yuan, has both literal and symbolic meanings refer to the scent of flowers and trees, also echoes the name of famed Ming dynasty painter Li Liufang. Liu Fang Yuan is truly a microcosm of The Huntington, bringing together botany, art and literature in a garden that will serve as a place of cultural memory and center for education about one of the great humanities traditions of the world.

Established in the late imperial era, ＂one hundred beauties＂（baimei） genre selected and portrayed one hundred beautiful women in Chinese history often through three cultural artifacts： woodblock print portraits, biographies, and poems. This paper takes as its focus the anthology Gujin baimei tuyong 古今百美图咏（Illustrated biographies of and poems on one hundred beauties of the past and the present, 1917）, which has not received scholarly attention before. Bringing together collections of old and new-style beauties, the anthology is a showcase of the genre straddling two centuries. The transformation of the genre, as reflected in the Gujin baimei tuyong, complicates a simplistic distinction between tradition and modernity while enriching our understanding of the changing representations of women.

The quantification of the extent and dynamics of land-use changes is a key metric employed to assess the progress toward several Sustainable Development Goals(SDGs)that form part of the United Nations 2030 Sustainable Development *** terms of anthropogenic factors threatening the conservation of heritage properties,such a metric aids in the assessment of achievements toward heritage sustainability solving the problem of insufficient data ***,in this study,589 cultural World Heritage List(WHL)properties from 115 countries were analyzed,encompassing globally distributed and statistically significant samples of“monuments and groups of buildings”(73.2%),“sites”(19.3%),and“cultural landscapes”(7.5%).Land-cover changes in the WHL properties between 2015 and 2020 were automatically extracted from big data collections of high-resolution satellite imagery accessed via Google Earth Engine using intelligent remote sensing *** indexes(SIs)were estimated for the protection zones of each property,and the results were employed,for the first time,to assess the progress of each country toward SDG Target *** the apparent advances in SIs(10.4%),most countries either exhibited steady(20.0%)or declining(69.6%)SIs due to limited cultural investigations and enhanced negative anthropogenic *** study confirms that land-cover changes are among serious threats for heritage conservation,with heritage in some countries wherein the need to address this threat is most crucial,and the proposed spatiotemporal monitoring approach is recommended.

Purpose:With more and more digital collections of various information resources becoming available,also increasing is the challenge of assigning subject index terms and classes from quality knowledge organization *** the ultimate purpose is to understand the value of automatically produced Dewey Decimal Classification(DDC)classes for Swedish digital collections,the paper aims to evaluate the performance of six machine learning algorithms as well as a string-matching algorithm based on characteristics of ***/methodology/approach:State-of-the-art machine learning algorithms require at least 1,000 training examples per *** complete data set at the time of research involved 143,838 records which had to be reduced to top three hierarchical levels of DDC in order to provide sufficient training data(totaling 802 classes in the training and testing sample,out of 14,413 classes at all levels).Findings:Evaluation shows that Support Vector Machine with linear kernel outperforms other machine learning algorithms as well as the string-matching algorithm on average;the string-matching algorithm outperforms machine learning for specific classes when characteristics of DDC are most suitable for the *** embeddings combined with different types of neural networks(simple linear network,standard neural network,1 D convolutional neural network,and recurrent neural network)produced worse results than Support Vector Machine,but reach close results,with the benefit of a smaller representation *** of features in machine learning shows that using keywords or combining titles and keywords gives better results than using only titles as *** only marginally improves the *** stop-words reduced accuracy in most cases,while removing less frequent words increased it *** greatest impact is produced by the number of training examples:81.90%accuracy on the training set is achieved when at least 1,000 records per class are available

The time has come to recognize the extreme importance of the archaeological sites in Jordan. They provide a wealth evidence and precise information regarding ancient civilizations and cultures. The safeguarding of this cultural heritage is one of the most urgent priorities, that involve the proper conservation and preservation methods of all artifacts and buildings that have an important artistic and historic value. Conservation is a whole field in regarding the care and treatment of valuable artifacts, both movable and immovable. It has two aspects: (1) the control of the environment—-to minimize the decay of artifacts and materials and (2) the treatment of these—-in order to stop or slow down any deterioration and to stabilize them where possible against further dilapidation. The museum environment is a limited space dedicated not only to exhibition but also to the appropriate conservation of works of art. This article presents an overview of the types of damage and deterioration that air pollution causes to indoor cultural heritage materials and monuments. It identifies the main damaging air pollutants from outdoor sources to be sulphur dioxide, nitrogen dioxide, ozone and sulphide gases.
