Beta-lactam antibiotic resistance among Escherichia coli isolates from patients with urinary tract infections in Vietnam:A systematic review and meta-analysis

Objective:To investigate the evolving patterns of antimicrobial resistance against beta-lactam antibiotics in Escherichia coli isolates from urinary tract infection patients in Vietnam,covering the period from 2005 to ***:29 Descriptive studies published between 2010 and 2022 in English and Vietnamese were included in the *** on resistance rates to beta-lactam antibiotics,including cephalosporins and carbapenems,were extracted and *** pooled resistance rates were calculated using random-effects *** trends in resistance were assessed using linear regression ***:Among the beta-lactam antibiotics studied,Escherichia coli exhibited varying levels of resistance,with cephalosporins showing higher resistance rates compared to *** pooled resistance rates were 66%for cefotaxime,65%for ceftriaxone,54%for ceftazidime,and 56%for *** contrast,carbapenems demonstrated lower resistance rates,with weighted pooled resistance rates ranging from 3%to 4%for meropenem,ertapenem,and *** rates were also observed for amoxicillin/clavulanate(35%),ticarcillin/clavulanate(26%),and piperacillin/tazobactam(12%).Significant annual increases in resistance were noted for imipenem(0.56%,P<0.001).Conclusions:This study highlights the critical issue of antimicrobial resistance in urinary tract infections in Vietnam and emphasizes the importance of prudent antibiotic use and the regular monitoring of resistance *** insights are useful for guiding healthcare professionals in optimizing treatment strategies and for policymakers in formulating evidence-based clinical guidelines to combat antibiotic resistance effectively.

From the approval of COVID-19 mRNA vaccines to the 2023 Nobel Prize awarded for nucleoside base modifications,RNA therapeutics have entered the spotlight and are transforming drug *** the term“RNA therapeutics”has been used in various contexts,this review focuses on treatments that utilize RNA as a component or target RNA for therapeutic *** summarize the latest advances in RNA-targeting tools and RNA-based technologies,including but not limited to mRNA,antisense oligos,siRNAs,small molecules and RNA *** focus on the mechanisms of current FDA-approved therapeutics but also provide a discussion on the upcoming *** clinical utility of RNA-based therapeutics is enabled not only by the advances in RNA technologies but in conjunction with the significant improvements in chemical modifications and delivery platforms,which are also briefly discussed in the *** summarize the latest RNA therapeutics based on their mechanisms and therapeutic effects,which include expressing proteins for vaccination and protein replacement therapies,degrading deleterious RNA,modulating transcription and translation efficiency,targeting noncoding RNAs,binding and modulating protein activity and editing RNA sequences and *** review emphasizes the concept of an RNA therapeutic toolbox,pinpointing the readers to all the tools available for their desired research and clinical *** the field advances,the catalog of RNA therapeutic tools continues to grow,further allowing researchers to combine appropriate RNA technologies with suitable chemical modifications and delivery platforms to develop therapeutics tailored to their specific clinical challenges.

The real benefits of vitamins and dietary supplementation on health outcomes have always been mired in controversy,and to date,contradictory studies continue to be published to highlight their benefits when downplaying possible adverse effects.!This recently published National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey(NHANES)database study population investigating the role of niacin on erectile function reported that higher niacin intake,specifically in the highest tertile,was associated with a decreased risk of erectile dysfunction(ED)compared to the lowest tertile,showing an odds ratio(OR)of 0.56(95%confidence interval[CI]:0.37-0.85)based on 863 participants with ED from a pool of 3184 adults.2 Further analysis of dose-response curves and interaction analyses found a negative correlation between dietary niacin intake and the risk of ED,suggesting that a higher dietary niacin intake is associated with areducedriskof ED.

MicroRNAs(miRNAs) provide insight into both the biology and clinical behavior of many human cancers, including nasopharyngeal carcinoma(NPC). The dysregulation of miRNAs in NPC results in a variety of tumor-promoting effects. Furthermore, several miRNAs are prognostic markers for NPC. In addition to cellular miRNAs, NPC samples also often contain miRNAs encoded by Epstein-Barr virus, and these miRNAs may impact NPC biology by targeting both cellular and viral genes. Given their numerous putative roles in NPC development and progression, a thorough understanding of the impact of miRNA dysregulation in NPC is expected to shed light on useful biomarkers and therapeutic targets for the clinical management of this disease. In this review, we describe the efforts to date to identify and characterize such miRNAs in the context of NPC.

BACKGROUND Pancreatic acinar cell carcinoma(PACC)is a rare *** to 45%of PACCs have alterations in the DNA damage repair pathway and 23%harbor rearrangements in the BRAF or RAF1 *** present a PACC case with a germline BRCA2 likely pathogenic variant(LPV)to highlight the impact of genomic testing on treatment decisions and patient *** our larger case series,we provide clinic-based information on additional 10 PACC patients treated in our *** SUMmary A 70-year-old male was diagnosed with advanced *** presentation,he was cachectic with severe arthralgia despite prednisolone and a skin rash that was later confirmed to be *** was treated with modified FOLFIRINOX(mFFX)with the knowledge of the germline BRCA2 *** 11 cycles of mFFX,a computed tomography(CT)scan demonstrated significant tumor response in the pancreatic primary and hepatic metastases,totaling 70%from baseline as per Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid *** of the skin panniculitis was also *** identified two additional PACCs with druggable targets in our case *** data contribute to practical evidence for the value of germline and somatic profiling in the management of rare diseases like *** This patient and others in our larger case series highlight the importance of genomic testing in PACC with potential utility in personalized treatment.

RAS genes are most commonly associated with gain-of function mutations that promote oncogenic behavior. Activating mutations in KRAS occur in 90–95% cases of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) a deadly and highly metastatic disease. Currently the fourth leading cause of cancer death in the United States, PDAC presents with a dismal 5-year survival rate of less than 5% (1).

Prostate cancer is the most commonly diagnosed noncutaneous cancers in North American *** androgen deprivation has remained as the cornerstone of prostate cancer treatment,resistance ensues leading to lethal *** box A1(FOXA1)encodes a pioneer factor that induces open chromatin conformation to allow the binding of other transcription *** direct interactions with the Androgen Receptor(AR),FOXA1 helps to shape AR signaling that drives the growth and survival of normal prostate and prostate cancer ***1 also possesses an AR-independent role of regulating epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition(EMT).In prostate cancer,mutations converge onto the coding sequence and c/s-regulatory elements(CREs)of FOXA1,leading to functional *** addition,FOXA1 activity in prostate cancer can be modulated post-translationally through various mechanisms such as LSD1-mediated protein *** this review,we describe the latest discoveries related to the function and regulation of FOXA1 in prostate cancer,pointing to their relevance to guide future clinical interventions.
