Small incision lenticule extraction(SMILE)has become one of the mainstream refractive surgeries in recent years,with satisfactory efficacy,safety,and ***-derived refractive lenticule,the byproduct of the surgery,holds great potential in clinical practice given its easy access and good *** studies have been published to describe its applications in refractive correction,corneal ectasia diseases,and corneal *** feasibility and safety were validated in both animal models and clinical ***,the preservation method is also crucial for its further promotion and *** techniques are also evaluated and applied in lenticule *** covered the recent advances in the preservation of corneal stromal lenticules and their clinical reuse in this review.

AIM： To observe the effect of exosomes derived from human umbilical cord blood mesenchymal stem cells（h UCMSCs） on the expression of vascular endothelial growth factor-A（VEGF-A） in blue light injured human retinal pigment epithelial（RPE） cells and laser-induced choroidal neovascularization（CNV） in ***： Exosomes were isolated from h UCMSCs and characterized by transmission electron microscope and Western blot. MSCs-derived exosomes were cultured with RPE cells exposed to blue light. The m RNA and protein expression of VEGF-A were determined by real time-polymerase chain reaction（PCR） and Western blot, respectively. Immunofluorescence assay was used for the detection of the expression level of VEGF-A. We injected different doses of MSCs-derived exosomes intravitreally to observe and compare their effects in a mouse model of laserinduced retinal injury. The histological structure of CNV in rats was inspected by hematoxylin-eosin（HE） staining and fundus fluorescein angiography. The expression of VEGF-A was detected by ***： Exosomes exhibited the typical characteristic morphology（cup-shaped） and size（diameter between 50 and 150 nm）. The exosomes marker, CD63, and h UCMSCs marker, CD90, showed a robust presence. In vitro, MSCsderived exosomes downregulated the m RNA（Exo-L： t=6.485, 7.959, 9.286; Exo-M： t=7.517, 10.170, 13.413; Exo-H： t=10.317, 12.234, 14.592, P〈0.05） and protein（Exo-L： t=2.945, 4.477, 6.657; Exo-M： t=4.713, 6.421, 8.836; Exo-H：t=6.539, 12.194, 12.783; P〈0.05） expression of VEGF-A in RPE cells after blue light stimulation. In vivo, we found that the MSCs-derived exosomes reduced damage, distinctly downregulated VEGF-A（Exo-H： t=0.957, 1.382; P〈0.05）, and gradually improved the histological structures of CNV for a better visual function（Exo-L： 0.346, Exo-M： 3.382, Exo-H： 8.571; P〈0.05）. CONCLUSION： MSCs-derived exosomes ameliorate blue light stimulation in RPE cells and laser-induced retinal injury via downregulation of VEGF

Background:This review aims to explain the reasons why intraocular lens(IOL)power calculation is challenging in eyes with previous corneal refractive surgery and what solutions are currently available to obtain more accurate ***:After IOL implantation in eyes with previous LASIK,PRK or RK,a refractive surprise can occur because (i)the altered ratio between the anterior and posterior corneal surface makes the keratometric index invalid;(ii)the corneal curvature radius is measured out of the optical zone;and (iii)the effective lens position is erroneously predicted if such a prediction is based on the post-refractive surgery corneal *** methods are currently available to obtain the best refractive outcomes in these eyes,even when the perioperative data(*** corneal power and surgically induced refractive change)are not *** this review,we describe the most accurate methods based on our clinical ***:IOL power calculation after myopic corneal refractive surgery can be calculated with a variety of methods that lead to relatively accurate outcomes,with 60 to 70%of eyes showing a prediction error within 0.50 diopters.

AIM:To evaluate the predictive value of pediatric penetrating ocular trauma score(POTS)on the visual outcome in children with open globe ***:A retrospective study in 90 children(60 males and 30 females)aged 1-15 y(average,7.48±2.86 y)with penetrating ocular trauma was *** patient’s POTS was *** effects of POTS on final visual acuity(FVA)were *** between factors affecting POTS and the FVA was ***:All patients presented with single-eye *** follow-up time was 3-21 mo(average,10.23±3.54 mo).Among the 90 cases of penetrating wounds,71 eyes(78.89%)were injured in Zone I(wound involvement limited to the cornea,including the corneoscleral limbus),17 eyes(18.89%)were injured in Zone II(wound involving the sclera and no more posterior than 5 mm from the corneoscleral limbus),and 2 eyes(2.22%)were injured in Zone III(wound involvement posterior to the anterior 5 mm of the sclera).Analysis of POTS and FVA showed important correlation between them(r=0.414,P=0.000).Initial visual acuity(P=0.00),age(P=0.02),injury location(P=0.002),traumatic cataract(P=0.00),vitreous hemorrhage(P=0.027),retinal detachment(P=0.003),and endophthalmitis(P=0.03)were found to be statistically significant factors for the FVA ***:Ocular trauma presents serious consequences and poor prognosis in *** POTS may be a reliable prognostic tool in children with open globe injury.

AIM: To evaluate the therapeutic effect of Nodinhibit-1 on alkali-burn-induced corneal neovascularization (CNV) and inflammation. The nucleotide-binding oligomerzation domain 1 (NOD1) is a potent angiogenic gene. METHODS: The alkali -burned rat corneas (32 right eyes) were treated with eye drops containing Nodinhibit-1 or phosphate buffered solution (PBS, pH 7.4) only, four times per day. CNV and inflammation were monitored using slit lamp microscopy, and the area of CNV was measured by formula. Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and pigment epithelium -derived factor (PEDF) was determined by Western blot analysis. The TUNEL assay was used to assess the corneal apoptosis cells. RESULTS: Alkali-burn-induced progressive CNV and inflammation in the cornea. After treatment for 7d and 14d, there were statistically significant differences in the CNV areas and inflammatory index on that between two group(Pcornea.

laser refractive surgery is one of the most performed surgical procedures in the world. Although regarded safe and efficient, it has side effects. All of the laser based refractive surgical procedures invoke corneal nerve injury to some degree. The impact of this denervation can range from mild discomfort to neurotrophic corneas. Currently, three techniques are widely used for laser vision correction: small incision lenticule extraction, laser-assisted keratomileusis in situ and photorefractive keratotomy. Each of these techniques affects corneal innervation differently and has a different pattern of nerve regeneration. The purpose of this review is to summarize the different underlying mechanisms for corneal nerve injury and compare the different patterns of corneal reinnervation.

AIM： To report the indications for and techniques of corneal transplantation at Vietnam National institute of Ophthalmology （VNIO） over a period of 12y （2002-2013）, METHODS： Records of patients who had undergone corneal transplantation at VNIO from January 1, 2002 to January 1, 2014 were reviewed to determine the indication for and type of corneal transplant performed. Patient age, gender, indication for corneal transplantation and surgical technique were recorded and analyzed. RESULTS： corneal transplantation were underwent in 1390 eyes of 1278 patients with a mean age of 44.9±18.1y during the period under review. The most common indication was infectious corneal ulcer （n=670; 48.2%）, followed by corneal scar （n=333, 24.0% ）, corneal dystrophy （n=138, 9.9%） and failed graft （n=112, 8.1%）. Nearly all procedures performed were penetrating keratoplasty （n=1300, 93.5% ）, with a few lamellar keratoplasty procedures performed： lamellar keratoplasty （n=52, 3.7%）, Descemet＇s stripping automated endothelial keratoplasty （n =27, 1.9% ） and deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty （n =11, 0.8%）.CONCLUSION： While the most common indication for keratoplasty was infectious keratitis, nearly all indications for corneal transplantation were managed with penetrating keratoplasty, However, lamellar keratoplasty techniques, including deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty and Descemet＇s stripping automated endothelial keratoplasty, are being performed with increasing frequency for isolated stromal and endothelial disorders, respectively,
