The interest in dynamic modulation of light by ultra-thin materials exhibiting insulator–metal phase transition,such as VO_(2),has rapidly grown due to the myriad industrial applications,including smart windows and optical ***,for applications in the telecommunication spectral band,the light modulation through a thin VO_(2) film is low due to the presence of strong material ***,we demonstrate tailored nanostructuring of VO_(2) to dramatically enhance its transmission modulation,reaching a value as high as 0.73,which is 2 times larger than the previous modulation *** resulting designs,including free-topology optimization,demonstrate the fundamental limit in acquiring the desired optical performance,including achieving positive or negative transmission *** results on nanophotonic management of lossy nanostructured films open new opportunities for applications of VO_(2) metasurfaces.

Estimation of physical quantities is at the core of most scientific research,and the use of quantum devices promises to enhance its *** real scenarios,it is fundamental to consider that resources are limited,and Bayesian adaptive estimation represents a powerful approach to efficiently allocate,during the estimation process,all the available ***,this framework relies on the precise knowledge of the system model,retrieved with a fine calibration,with results that are often computationally and experimentally *** introduce a model-free and deep-learning-based approach to efficiently implement realistic Bayesian quantum metrology tasks accomplishing all the relevant challenges,without relying on any a priori knowledge of the *** overcome this need,a neural network is trained directly on experimental data to learn the multiparameter Bayesian *** the system is set at its optimal working point through feedback provided by a reinforcement learning algorithm trained to reconstruct and enhance experiment heuristics of the investigated quantum ***,we prove experimentally the achievement of higher estimation performances than standard methods,demonstrating the strength of the combination of these two black-box algorithms on an integrated photonic *** work represents an important step toward fully artificial intelligence-based quantum metrology.

Magnetic theory and application to a complex volcanic area located in Southern Italy are here discussed showing the example of the Gulf of Naples, located at Southern Italy Tyrrhenian margin. A magnetic anomaly map of the Gulf of Naples has been constructed aimed at highlighting new knowledge on geophysics and volcanology of this area of the Eastern Tyrrhenian margin, characterized by a complex geophysical setting, strongly depending on sea bottom topography. The theoretical aspects of marine magnetometry and multibeam bathymetry have been discussed. Magnetic data processing included the correction of the data for the diurnal variation, the correction of the data for the offset and the leveling of the data as a function of the correction at the cross-points of the navigation lines. Multibeam and single-beam bathymetric data processing has been considered. Magnetic anomaly fields in the Naples Bay have been discussed through a detailed geological interpretation and correlated with main morpho-structural features recognized through morpho- bathymetric interpretation. Details of magnetic anomalies have been selected, represented and correlated with significant seismic profiles, recorded on the same navigation lines of magnetometry. They include the continental shelf offshore the Somma-Vesuvius volcanic complex, the outer shelf of the Gulf of Pozzuoli offshore the Phlegrean Fields volcanic complex, the relict volcanic banks of Pentapalummo, Nisida and Miseno, the Gaia volcanic bank on the Naples slope, the western slope of the Dohrn canyon, the Magnaghi canyon’s head and the magnetic anomalies among the Ischia and Procida islands.

The aim of this work is to analyze the role of the impressed sources in determining the well or ill-posedness of time harmonic electromagnetic boundary value problems involving isotropic effective *** is shown,in particular,that,even if all interfaces are regular,the class of ill-posed problems can be very large in the presence of general square-integrable impressed ***,when a simple and realistic constraint is enforced on these sources,requiring that the support of the sources does not include any interface between a traditional medium and a metamaterial,among the problems here considered just those involving an interface between complementary materials remain *** considerations have a very significant impact also on the approximability of the solution of well-posed problems since the numerical noise can introduce small fictitious sources even where the sources to be simulated are not *** effects on finite element simulators are fully ***,we propose an algorithm that allows to obtain much better approximations of the solutions of the most critical wellposed problems.

The estimation of the transmission matrix of a disordered medium is a challenging problem in disordered ***,its reconstruction relies on a complex inversion that aims at connecting a fully controlled input to the deterministic interference of the light field scrambled by the *** the moment,iterative phase retrieval protocols provide the fastest reconstructing frameworks,converging in a few tens of *** the knowledge of speckle correlations,we construct a new phase retrieval algorithm that reduces the computational cost to a single *** being faster,our method is practical because it accepts fewer measurements than state-of-the-art *** to reducing computation time by one order of magnitude,our result can be a step forward toward real-time optical imaging that exploits disordered devices.

In this paper, some computational tools are proposed to determine the largest invariant set, with respect to either a continuous-time or a discrete-time system, that is contained in an algebraic set. In particular, it is shown that if the vector field governing the dynamics of the system is polynomial and the considered analytic set is a variety, then algorithms from algebraic geometry can be used to solve the considered problem. Examples of applications of the method(spanning from the characterization of the stability to the computation of the zero dynamics) are given all throughout the paper.

Multicomponent models based on the Lattice Boltzmann Method(LBM)have clear advantages with respect to other approaches,such as good parallel performances and scalability and the automatic resolution of breakup and coalescence *** flow simulations are useful for a wide range of applications,yet many multicomponent models for LBMare limited in their numerical stability and therefore do not allow exploration of physically relevant low viscosity *** we performa quantitative study and validations,varying parameters such as viscosity,droplet radius,domain size and acceleration for stationary and translating droplet simulations for the color-gradientmethod with centralmoments(CG-CM)formulation,as this method promises increased numerical stability with respect to the *** focus on numerical stability and on the effect of decreasing grid-spacing,*** resolution,in the extremely low viscosity regime for stationary droplet *** effects of small-and large-scale anisotropy,due to grid-spacing and domain-size,respectively,are investigated for a stationary *** effects on numerical stability of applying a uniform acceleration in one direction on the domain,*** both the droplet and the ambient,is explored into the low viscosity regime,to probe the numerical stability of the method under dynamical conditions.
