Human biofield therapy does not affect tumor size but modulates immune responses in a mouse model for breast cancer

OBJECTIVE： To assess the effect of human biofield therapy, an integrative medicine modality, on the development of tumors and metastasis, and immune function in a mouse breast cancer model. METHODS： Mice were injected with 66cl4 mammary carcinoma cells. In study one, mice received biofield therapy after cell injection. In study two, mice were treated by the biofield practitioner only prior to cell injection. Both studies had two control groups of mock biofield treatments and phosphate- buffered saline injection. Mice were weighed and tumor volume was determined. Blood samples were collected and 32 serum cytokine/chemokine markers were measured. Spleens/popliteal lymph nodes were isolated and dissociated for fluorescent-activated cell sorting （FACS） analysis of immune cells or metastasis assays in cell culture. RESULTS： No signifcant differences were found in weight, tumor size or metastasis. Significant effects were found in the immune responses in study one but no additional effects were found in study two. In study one, human biofield treatment significantly reduced percentage of CD4~CD441oCD25~ and percentage of CD8~ cells, elevated by cancer in the lymph nodes, to control levels determined by FACS analysis. In the spleen, only CD11b~ macrophages were increased with cancer, and human biofield therapy significantly reduced them. Of 11 cytokines elevated by cancer, only interferon-y, interleukin-1, monokine induced by interferon-y, interleukin-2 and macrophage inflammatory protein-2 were significantly reduced to control levels with human biofield therapy. CONCLUSION： Human biofield therapy had no significant effect on tumor size or metastasis but produced significant effects on immune responses apparent in the down-regulation of specific lymphocytes and serum cytokines in a mouse breast cancer model.

Background:Continuous beta-agonist therapy,typically in the form of inhaled albuterol,is the first line therapy for the treatment of acute and severe bronchospasm in *** this treatment is commonly used,concerns about cardiotoxicity have been *** aimed to investigate the cardiotoxic effects of continuous beta-agonist therapy in ***:We conducted a retrospective review of children admitted to the intensive care unit(ICU)between May 2008 and April 2009,who were treated with continuous beta-agonist therapy(intravenous and nebulized).Results:Twenty of the 36 children treated with continuous albuterol had repeated serum troponin-T and lactate levels *** patients(55%)were also treated with continuous intravenous *** levels of troponin-T levels were found in 25%of children,and elevated lactate levels were found in 60%.However,all returned to normal levels within 48 hours of ICU admission,despite continued beta-agonist *** children experienced arrhythmias during *** was no association between intravenous terbutaline use and elevated troponin-T[odds ratio(OR),1.3;95%CI,0.2-10.3]or with elevated serum lactate(OR,0.6;95%CI,0.1-3.7).There was also no association between elevated troponin-T or lactate and ICU or hospital length of ***:In this small study,a significant proportion of children had elevated serum troponin-T and lactate levels while receiving inhaled continuous beta-agonist therapy,irrespective of intravenous ***,these abnormal values all returned to normal within 48 hours of ICU admission and were not associated with increased duration of hospitalization.

目的　探讨拇短展肌肌力定量检测所得的正常值并分析其可信度。方法　用微电脑控制便携式肌力测量仪对 2 0～ 59岁的 2 97位正常人进行拇短展肌肌力正常值的测定。另 1组 12位正常人被用于组内及组间可信度测定。结果　各组正常值相当恒定 ,男性均大于女性。年龄、性别、优势与非优势手之间无显著差异。组内及组间可信度系数分别为 0 .92、0 .89。结论　该研究可为临床检测拇短展肌肌力提供客观、量化的正常值标准。

Significant scarcity of a donor pool exists for heart transplantation(HT)as the prevalence of patients with end-stage refractory heart failure is increasing *** the discovery of effective direct-acting antiviral and favorable short-term outcomes following HT,the hearts from hepatitis C virus(HCV)patient are being utilized to increase the donor ***-term outcomes with regards to graft function,coronary artery vasculopathy,and kidney and liver disease is comparable in HCV-negative recipients undergoing HT from HCVpositive donors compared to HCV-negative donors.A significant high incidence of donor-derived HCV transmission was observed with great success of achieving sustained viral response with the use of direct-acting *** accepting HCV-positive organs,the donor pool has expanded with younger donors,a shorter waitlist time,and a reduction in waitlist ***,the longterm outcomes and impact of specific HCV genotypes remains to be *** reviewed the current literature on HT from HCV-positive donors.

目的探讨临床客观、量化的拇短展肌肌力评判方法。方法应用计算机化微型便携式肌力测定仪对101例(162只手)腕管综合征患者进行测定。其中女77例、男24例。年龄20～59岁。所有患者均于术前进行了肌力测定,其中62只手在术后6周再次测定。结果44%的患者具有拇短展肌肌力减弱,其不同性别间的差异具有极显著意义(P<0.001)。部分年龄组别间差异有显著性意义(P<0.05)。术前术后差异具极显著意义(P<0.001)。结论拇短展肌肌力定量测定是判断腕管综合征严重程度、评定疗效的一个良好的客观指标。

The main stay pharmacotherapy for heart failure(HF) is targeted towards rennin-angiotensin-aldosterone(RAAS) and neprilysin pathways(NP). Both therapeutic strategies decreases morbidity and mortality but also carry considerable adverse effects. This review of the literature highlights the new generation of HF drug, sacubitril-valsartan(SV), trade name Entresto(researched as LCZ696, Novartis) which simultaneously blocks RAAS and NP. This dual action of angiotensin receptors blocker and neprilysin inhibitor(NPi) has improved HF prognosis and it is an evolution in the management of HF. Although the initial follow-up of patients treated with SV has yielded promising results, there are concerns regarding potential side effects especially an increase in the risk of Alzheimer's disease(AD) and young onset of AD. NPi interferes with the breakdown and clearing of beta-amyloid peptides, the plaques seen in AD, raising concern for AD in SV patients. On the other hand, hypertension and cardiovascular diseases are established risk factors for AD which can be decreased by SV therapy. It is therefore essential that SV treated patients are followed up over an extended period of time to detect any adverse cognitive changes.

目的　比较腕管综合征 (carpaltunnelsyndrome ,CTS)主要症状、体征的敏感性与特异性。方法　对 10 1例 ( 162只手 )进行症状严重程度与功能状况的询问 ,感觉、运动功能的检查 ;其中 62只手在术后 6周再次测定。结果　 162只患手中 15 8只具有典型症状 ( 98% )。Phalen征、前臂正中神经加压征、Semmes Weinstein单丝纤维测试阳性率分别为 98%、96%、82 %。 87%的患手出现肌力下降 ,拇短展肌肌力测定 (定量法 )结果显示 ,与徒手法相比 ,不同性别间、术前与术后的差异均具非常显著意义 (P <0 .0 1)。结论　典型症状、Phalen征、前臂正中神经加压征、拇短展肌肌力变化的敏感性与特异性最高 ,拇短展肌肌力定量法测定是判断腕管综合征严重程度、评定疗效的一个良好的客观指标。
