Alcohol and Type 2 Diabetes: Results from Canadian Cross-Sectional Data

Cross-section data from Canadian Community Health Surveys are used to examine the relationship between moderate alcohol use and type 2 diabetes. Results from these data are compared with those which have been obtained from prospective longitudinal studies. The major result is that both types of data yield similar conclusions with respect to this relationship. The reason why this occurs is because Canadian drinking behavior is quite stable once a respondent has become an adult and remains relatively stable thereafter. The only difference between the two types of survey is the time at which information on drinking behavior is obtained. Since this does not matter if drinking behavior is stable over large age ranges results from the two types of survey will be similar. Neither type of data can be used to support the proposition that the relationship between drinking behavior and the risk of diabetes is causal. Some advantages that sample survey data have over longitudinal data are also noted.

＜正＞Rationale: Depression has been the focus of much work in cultural psychopathology, and within this general topic a particular question has generated sustained interest and become, in many ways, emblematic of the field as a whole （Ryder, Yang, ＆ Heine, 2002）. Individuals from China have often been described as ’somatizing’ depression relative to individuals from North America （Kleinman, 1986）. This phenomenon has been observed both in Chinese immigrants to Western countries and by Western-trained clinicians conducting research in China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. Training specificity is imperative for successful performance of the elite *** reality(VR)has been successfully applied to a broad range of training ***,to date there is little research investigating the use of VR for sport *** purpose of this study was to address the question of whether virtual reality(VR)training can improve real world hockey shooting *** four volunteers were recruited and randomly selected to complete the virtual training intervention or enter a control group with no *** primary types of data were collected:(1)participant’s experience with video games and hockey,(2)participant’s motivation toward video game use,(3)participant’s technical performance on real-world hockey,and(4)participant’s technical performance in virtual ***-way multivariate analysis of variance(ANOVA)indicated that the intervention group demonstrated significantly more real-world hockey accuracy(F(1,24)=15.43,p<0.01,E.S.=0.56)while shooting on goal than their control group counterparts(intervention M accuracy=54.17%,SD=12.38,control M accuracy=46.76%,SD=13.45).One-way multivariate analysis of variance(MANOVA)repeated measures indicated significantly higher outcome scores on real-world accuracy(35.42%versus 54.17%;ES=1.52)and velocity(51.10 mph versus 65.50 mph;ES=0.86)of hockey shooting on *** research supports the idea that virtual training is an effective tool for increasing real-world hockey skill.

Prey use reliable public information in order to assess local habitat condirions such as predation risks, competitive interactions, and foraging opportunities (Dall et al. 2005), allowing for context appropriate behavioral decisions. However, public information can often differ widely in reliability (Feyten and Brown 2018), increasing the potential costs associated with behavioral decision making (Dall et al. 2005). The reliability of public information is expected to decrease with in creased un certainty of environmental conditio ns (Koops 2004;Dall et al. 2005), where ecological uncertainty is the ambiguity about the current state of the environment due to imperfect or incomplete information (Dall et al. 2005;Munoz and Blumstein 2012;Feyten and Brown 2018).

Due to space limitation,mutual coupling occurs almost invisibly in array *** this paper,the mutual coupling effects on the two most popular categories of array antennas,i.e.,phased arrays and multiple-input multiple-output(MIMO)antennas,are *** misconceptions regarding the mutual coupling effects are *** is shown that the steering pattern of a phased array at an arbitrary scan-ning angle can be readily calculated once the embedded radiation patterns of the array elements(including the mutual coupling effect)are *** antenna spacing decreases,absorption loss increases,yet the phase terms tend to add up constructively as antenna spacing reduces,which may overcompensate the absorption loss due to mutual ***,the array efficiency may be increased by reducing the antenna spacing.A patch antenna array is used to illustrate this *** is further shown that while mutual coupling tends to reduce the correlation of two-element arrays,it has a negligible effect on the overall correlations of larger ***,various mutual coupling reduction techniques are briefly *** feasible techniques for large planar arrays are used to illustrate the benefits of array decoupling.

5G is emerging, but the current fronthaul transmission technologies used for 3G and 4G may not be efficient and appropriate for 5G. It has been found that frequency division multiple access （FDMA） and time- division multiple access （TDMA） based radio over fiber （RoF） may be considered the most appropriate for 5G fronthaul transmission technology. Due to analog RoF transmission, broadband linearization is required. In this work, both electrical and optical broadband linearization techniques are reviewed.

This paper presents the recent developments in Fault-Tolerant Cooperative Control(FTCC)of multiple unmanned aerial vehicles(multi-UAVs).To facilitate the analyses of FTCC methods for *** formation control strategies under fault-free flight conditions of multi-UAVs are first summarized and analyzed,including the leader-following,behavior-based,virtual structure,collision avoidance,algebraic graph-based,and close formation control methods,which are viewed as the cooperative control methods for multi-UAVs at the pre-fault ***,by considering the various faults encountered by the multi-UAVs,the state-of-the-art developments on individual,leader-following,and distributed FTCC schemes for multi-UAVs are reviewed in ***,conclusions and challenging issues towards future developments are presented.

The dissociation of ammonium (NH4+) into ammonia (NH3) in wastewaters is a key factor governing atmospheric nitrogen volatilization. Relatively rich in total ammoniacal nitrogen (TAN or NH4+ plus NH3), livestock manures are most susceptible to NH3 volatilization, although indirect measurements report 5 times less NH4+ dissociation as compared to theoretical values. The objective of this study was therefore to directly measure NH4+ dissociation of two standard NH4Cl solutions (1750 and 3500 mg TAN/L), and of swine and dairy cattle manures at various dilutions and temperatures using a ammonia selective electrode (hydrogen and silver-silver chloride electrode couple) at various pH and temperatures. All solutions demonstrated NH4+ dissociation varying from theory, especially because of dissolved compounds such as atmospheric CO2. At a neutral pH, ratios of theoretical to measured [NH3-N] ranged from 1.5 to 3.5, with higher ratios corresponding to higher TAN levels. At a pH below 6, NH3 volatilization was enhanced by the shift of HCO3- to H2CO3 and CO2. With previous research projects reporting 5 times less NH3 volatilization as compared to theory, the present indicates that dissociation activity account for half of this drop with gas diffusion accounting for the other half.
