Non-intrusive load monitoring(NILM)is a technique which extracts individual appliance consumption and operation state change information from the aggregate power consumption made by a single residential or commercial *** plays a pivotal role in modernizing building energy management by disaggregating total energy consumption into individual appliance-level *** enables informed decision-making,energy optimization,and cost ***,NILM encounters substantial challenges like signal noise,data availability,and data privacy concerns,necessitating advanced algorithms and robust methodologies to ensure accurate and secure energy disaggregation in real-world *** learning techniques have recently shown some promising results in NILM research,but training these neural networks requires significant labeled *** initial sets of labeled data for the research by installing smart meters at the end of consumers’appliances is laborious and expensive and exposes users to severe privacy *** is also important to mention that most NILM research uses empirical observations instead of proper mathematical approaches to obtain the threshold value for determining appliance operation states(On/Off)from their respective energy consumption *** paper proposes a novel semi-supervised multilabel deep learning technique based on temporal convolutional network(TCN)and long short-term memory(LSTM)for classifying appliance operation states from labeled and unlabeled *** two thresholding techniques,namely Middle-Point Thresholding and Variance-Sensitive Thresholding,which are needed to derive the threshold values for determining appliance operation states,are also compared *** superiority of the proposed model,along with finding the appliance states through the Middle-Point Thresholding method,is demonstrated through 15%improved overall improved F1micro score and almost 26%improved Hamming loss,F1 and Specificity score for the p

Formally Analyzing Expected Time Complexity of Algorithms Using Theorem Proving

Probabilistic techniques are widely used in the analysis of algorithms to estimate the computational complexity of algorithms or a computational ***,such analyses are performed using paper-and-pencil proofs and the results are sometimes validated using simulation *** techniques are informal and thus may result in an inaccurate *** this paper,we propose a formal technique for analyzing the expected time complexity of algorithms using higher-order-logic theorem *** approach calls for mathematically modeling the algorithm along with its inputs,using indicator random variables,in higher-order *** model is then used to formally reason about the expected time complexity of the underlying algorithm in a theorem *** paper includes the higher-order-logic formalization of indicator random variables,which are fundamental to the proposed *** order to illustrate the practical effiectiveness and utilization of the proposed infrastructure,the paper also includes the analysis of algorithms for three well-known problems,i.e.,the hat-check problem,the birthday paradox and the hiring problem.

An Abstract Reachability Approach by Combining HOL Induction and Multiway Decision Graphs

In this paper, we provide a necessary infrastructure to define an abstract state exploration in the HOL theorem prover. Our infrastructure is based on a deep embedding of the Multiway Decision Graphs （MDGs） theory in HOL. MDGs generalize Reduced Ordered Binary Decision Diagrams （ROBDDs） to represent and manipulate a subset of first-order logic formulae. The MDGs embedding is based on the logical formulation of an MDG as Directed Formulae （DF）. Then, the MDGs operations are defined and the correctness proof of each operation is provided. The MDG teachability algorithm is then defined as a conversion that uses our MDG theory within HOL. Finally, a set of experimentations over benchmark circuits has been conducted to ensure the applicability and to measure the performance of our approach.

Design of passive fault-tolerant flight controller against actuator failures

The problem of designing passive fault-tolerant flight controller is addressed when the normal and faulty cases are prescribed. First of all, the considered fault and fault-free cases are formed by polytopes. As considering that the safety of a post-fault system is directly related to the maximum values of physical variables in the system, peak-to-peak gain is selected to represent the relationships among the amplitudes of actuator outputs, system outputs, and reference commands. Based on the parameter dependent Lyapunov and slack methods, the passive fault-tolerant flight controllers in the absence/presence of system uncertainty for actuator failure cases are designed, respectively. Case studies of an airplane under actuator failures are carried out to validate the effectiveness of the proposed approach

A Cloud Service Architecture for Analyzing Big Monitoring Data

Cloud monitoring is of a source of big data that are constantly produced from traces of infrastructures,platforms, and applications. Analysis of monitoring data delivers insights of the system＇s workload and usage pattern and ensures workloads are operating at optimum levels. The analysis process involves data query and extraction, data analysis, and result visualization. Since the volume of monitoring data is big, these operations require a scalable and reliable architecture to extract, aggregate, and analyze data in an arbitrary range of granularity. Ultimately, the results of analysis become the knowledge of the system and should be shared and communicated. This paper presents our cloud service architecture that explores a search cluster for data indexing and query. We develop REST APIs that the data can be accessed by different analysis modules. This architecture enables extensions to integrate with software frameworks of both batch processing（such as Hadoop） and stream processing（such as Spark） of big data. The analysis results are structured in Semantic Media Wiki pages in the context of the monitoring data source and the analysis process. This cloud architecture is empirically assessed to evaluate its responsiveness when processing a large set of data records under node failures.

Formal Reasoning About Finite-State Discrete-Time Markov Chains in HOL

Markov chains are extensively used in modeling different aspects of engineering and scientific systems, such as performance of algorithms and reliability of systems. Different techniques have been developed for analyzing Markovian models, for example, Markov Chain Monte Carlo based simulation, Markov Analyzer, and more recently probabilistic model- checking. However, these techniques either do not guarantee accurate analysis or are not scalable. Higher-order-logic theorem proving is a formal method that has the ability to overcome the above mentioned limitations. However, it is not mature enough to handle all sorts of Markovian models. In this paper, we propose a formalization of Discrete-Time Markov Chain （DTMC） that facilitates formal reasoning about time-homogeneous finite-state discrete-time Markov chain. In particular, we provide a formal verification on some of its important properties, such as joint probabilities, Chapman-Kolmogorov equation, reversibility property, using higher-order logic. To demonstrate the usefulness of our work, we analyze two applications： a simplified binary communication channel and the Automatic Mail Quality Measurement protocol.

Hydraulic jump and choking of flow in pipe with a change of slope

Modeling Yin-Yang Balance in Tai-Chi Diagram with a Melting-Freezing Rotating Device Part 2---The Similarity and Characteristic of Tai-Chi Diagram

The physical model describing the Yin-Yang balance in the Tai-chi diagram via the melting and freezing processes taking place in a rotating device presented in reference [1] is further developed. The system of equations formulating the melting and freezing processes is transformed to a dimensionless form. The advantage of dimensionless equations not only reduces a significant number of parameters involved in the problem but also provides physical insight of the Tai-chi diagram. The solution of dimensionless equations offers the similarity and characteristic of the Tai-chi diagram[1].
