Does litterfall from native trees support rainfed agriculture? Analysis of Ficus trees in agroforestry systems of southern dry agroclimatic zone of Karnataka, southern India

Trees of the genus Ficus, integral components of indigenous rainfed agro-ecosystems of the southern dry agro-climatic zone of Karnataka, southern India, have traditionally been associated with the ecological service of soil quality enhancement in addition to various direct use benefits. We assessed the soil enrichment service of Ficus benghalensis L. a common Ficus species in these agroforestry systems, by quantifying nutrient return via litter fall. Litterfall estimation and chemical analysis of litter showed that F. benghalensis trees produce 3,512 kg ha-1 of litter annually which, on decomposition, can satisfy up to 76.70 % of N, 20.24% of P and 67.76% of K requirements of dryland crops annually per hectare. This can lead to an avoided cost of compost of US $ 36.46 ha-1·a-1 in dryland farming systems. The slow rate of decay of Ficus litter, as revealed in litter decomposition studies indicates its potential as ideal mulch for dryland soils. We discuss the complementarity between Ficus litterfall and cropping patterns in Mandya, and its implications for rainfed agricultural systems.

BACKGROUND Studies have indicated that childhood exposure to domestic violence is a common factor in posttraumatic growth(PTG)and posttraumatic stress disorder(PTSD),but it is unclear whether PTG and PTSD share a common/different underlying *** To explore the common/different underlying mechanism of PTG and *** Between February 12 and 17,2020,a nationwide cross-sectional online survey was conducted in China among 2038 university students,and a self-administered questionnaire was used for the data *** data included demographic characteristics,such as age,gender,and subjective social economic status,and childhood exposure to domestic violence scale that was selected from the Chinese version of revised Adverse Childhood Experiences Question,Self-compassion Scale,Connor–Davidson Resilience Scale,Posttraumatic Growth Inventory,and the Abbreviated PTSD Checklist-Civilian version.A structural equation model was used to test the *** Exposure to domestic violence was significantly associated with PTG and PTSD via a 1-step indirect path of self-compassion(PTG:β=-0.023,95%CI:-0.44 to-0.007;PTSD:β=0.008,95%CI:0.002,0.014)and via a 2-step indirect path from self-compassion to resilience(PTG:β=-0.008,95%CI:-0.018 to-0.002;PTSD:β=0.013,95%CI:0.004-0.024).However,resilience did not mediate the relationship between exposure to domestic violence and PTG and *** PTG and PTSD are common results of childhood exposure to domestic violence,which may be influenced by self-compassion and resilience.

Non-communicable diseases(NCDs)are commonly associated with non-alcoholic fatty liver/non-alcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFL/NAFLD)for which no drugs or specific food are available either to control or to *** encounter promising results with NGTRF in nutritional Management of NAFLD and *** is to compare the effect of using NGTRF over routine western management(RWM)and Hela Nila Wedakama(HNW)patients with NCD,including metabolic syndrome,are prescribed NGTRF(produced by Hela Suwaya)and followed *** five therapeutic categories are(1)RWM alone;(2)NGTRF alone;(3)NGTRF+RWM(in Galle);(4)NGTRF+RWM(in Gampaha);(5)NGTRF+RWM+*** to clinical,biochemical and radiological profiles,majority of categoroes 2,3,4 and 5 are either controlled or cured effectively and sustainably compared to category *** evidence shows that effectiveness and sustainability of prescribing NGTRF is *** to“Hela Suwaya”knowledge,genetic basis of food(conventional ***)and agronomic practices should be strongly considered while prescribing *** rice grown with toxin free Hela Suwaya“Hela Govithena”technology improves the micronutrient,prebiotic,probiotic and antioxidant profiles of *** farming reduces these parameters by reducing soil pH and *** foods produced by Hela Suwaya post-harvest food technology(such as rice-based porridge)will further improve these nutritional *** resulting optimization of the disturbed liver function is the key factor behind this beneficial effect on whole NCD *** is observed as cured or reduced NAFL/*** have already planned controlled clinical trials for further *** food-based intervention is therefore strongly suggested.
