Introduction: Diabetic neuropathy is one of the most common chronic complications of diabetes. Most of the studies on the subject in the sub region, particularly in Burkina Faso, dealt it with the study of the complications of diabetes, or one of its components. Our study was designed to study in particular in all its aspects, by searching for its peculiarities in our context, for improvement of its support. Methodology: This is a cross-sectional descriptive study carried out in 150 diabetic patients aged at least 15 years followed in the department of Internal Medicine at Yalgado Ouedraogo University teaching Hospital. All patients included had agreed to participate in our survey after informed consent. We collected the data during the period from 2015 November to 2016 June. Each patient was evaluated by the DN4 questionnaire and clinically by a neurological examination. We determinated the frequency, the sociodemographic, clinical and therapeutic characteristics of diabetes neuropathy and its related factors. Results: The frequency of diabetic neuropathy was 80.7%. Peripheral neuropathies were seen in 81.8% of cases and autonomic neuropathies in 72.7% of cases. Autonomic neuropathy was dominated by the DAN (59.1%), and erectile dysfunction (44%). There was a high comorbidity with physical inactivity (66.9%), obesity (49.4%) and hypertension (38.8%). There were poorly controlled patients in 38.8%. A link was found between T2DM and neuropathy (p = 0.014). Painful diabetes was related to the quality of glycemic control (p = 0.007), and hypertension (p = 0.021). A link was also found between tobacco consumption (p common in our context and could be a haunting to the practitioner with the progression of diabetes and its corollary of degenerative complications. Knee dislocation is a serious and rare injury. Its rarity and the variety of injuries that result from it mean that there is no adequate management that is universally accepted. The aim of this study was to evaluate our emergency care strategy for these injuries. Materials and methodology: This was a retrospective study conducted from January 1992 to December 2004 on nine cases of knee dislocation. It consisted of six men and three women. The average age of these subjects was 35, ranging from 15 to 50 years. The causes for these injuries included: public road accidents (n = 4), household accidents (n = 3), a sporting accident and a dislocation that occurred following a fight. The dislocations were anteromedial (n = 4), posterolateral (n = 2), posterior (n = 2) and anterior (n = 1). Associated injuries were sore joint (n = 2), contusion of the common peroneal nerve (n = 1) and vascular injury (n = 1). An angiography was performed on one patient for a vascular injury and an Elecmyography (EMG) for a common peroneal nerve injury. Closed reduction was used for eight patients and open reduction for one patient. Results: Five knees were stable with normal range of motion and some residual pain. Four patients had knee instability;two anterior, one anteroposterior and one lateral. In three of these patients, the CT arthrography/arthro-scan confirmed central pivot damage, with meniscal damage in two of them. The four patients were referred to a knee surgeon in a private practice. The post-operational effects were minimal in vascular injury. The EMG performed for the common peroneal nerve detected a nerve contusion. Conclusion: Our emergency care strategy remains closed reduction. This therapeutic management is consistent, at least in the first 15 days, with the literature.

Objective: To research distribution of etiologies modification of arthritis in Congo-Brazzaville, twenty years after the first reports. Methods: A cross sectional study has been achieved. Medical files of patients admitted for arthritis between 2000 and 2014, in Rheumatology department of Brazzaville university teaching hospital have been included. Among 416 patients listed as cases of arthritis, 201 answered to the inclusion criterias have been kept for analysis. The etiological diagnoses were based on criterias of classification and/or diagnosis used in Rheumatology. Results: 201 patients, 110 men (54.72%) and 91 women (45.28%) were included. The sex-ratio was 1.2, and average age was 45.5 years old (extremes: 8-86 years). Among them, 72 patients had microcrystal arthritis. Septic arthritis and those associated with HIV constituted the second etiological group of 60 patients and respectively, 32 were bacterial and 28 HIV associated arthritis. 58 remaining patients had a chronic inflammatory arthritis. Etiology distribution showed that gout was the most frequent (33.83%), followed by septic arthritis (15.92%), HIV associated arthritis (13.93%) and rheumatoid arthritis (11.94%). In 11 patients (5.5%), etiology was unknown. Conclusion: Three decades after the first publications in Brazzaville, the etiologies of arthritis remain dominated in order of frequency by gout, septic arthritis and HIV associated arthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. The frequency of indeterminate arthritis decreased significantly. Spondy-loarthropathy and autoimmune diseases are more common diagnosis.

Although little is known about the current situation regarding autism spectrum disorder(ASD)in main land China,psychiatric disorders are common among Chinese mothers of preschool children with *** studies showed ASD child's behavioral symptoms,maternal anxiety,and maternal depressive symptoms were associated with overall parenting stress in northern *** the present study,we retrospectively analyzed medical records at the hospital related to neuropsychiatric symptoms,parenting stress and social support in mothers of children with ASD from southern China.A total of 80 mothers of children with ASD were *** them,34 mothers were in low-functioning ASD group(L-ASD group)and 46 mothers were in highfunctioning ASD group(H-ASD group).Identification of the ASD cases was confirmed with a Revised Autism Diagnostic *** symptoms,parenting stress and social support were measured by neuropsychiatric inventory(NPI),parenting stress index short form(PSISF),and multi-dimensional scale of perceived social support(MSPSS).Total mean score of the NPI in the L-ASD group was significantly higher than that in the H-ASD group(P<0.01).The subscale scores of NPI,including depression,anxiety,apathy,irritability,agitation,night time behavior disturbances and change in appetite were significantly higher in the L-ASD group than those in the H-ASD group(P<0.01 or P<0.05).Meanwhile,the total PSI-SF scores and the scores of parental distress(PD),parental-child dysfunctional interaction(PCDI)and difficult child(DC)in the L-ASD group were significantly higher than those in the H-ASD group(P<0.01 or P<0.05).The total score of MSPSS was also higher in the L-ASD group than in the H-ASD group(P<0.01).This study goes further to show the neuropsychiatric symptoms and parenting stress are significantly higher in mothers of children with ASD,and more social supports are needed for mothers of children with ASD from southern China,especially for mothers of children

Objective: To describe the epidemiology, diagnosis and therapeutic outcomes of trauma to the external genitalia trauma. Materials and Methods: This is a retrospective descriptive study over a period of six and a half years from January 1st, 2006 to June 30th, 2012. About 42 cases of trauma to the male external genitalia were received at the emergency department of General surgery and Urology of Yalgado Ouedraogo teaching Hospital of Ouagadougou. Results: The average age of the patients was 31.7 years and the age groups most affected were those between 16 - 26 years. Our study population were mainly pupils and students with 40.5% of cases. Causes of trauma to the external genitalia were mainly highway accident with 19 cases (45.2% of cases). 85.7% of patients presented on the day of the trauma. Scrotum and its contents were more exposed to trauma (30 cases) than penis (12 cases). Treatment was most often surgical (78.6%). The postoperative course was uneventful in 75% of the cases of testicular trauma and 72.7% of the cases of penile trauma. Conclusion: External genitalia traumas affect young people. Complications can be important like erectile dysfunction. However, the prognosis is good if treatment is early.

Introduction: Lassa fever is a disease of public health importance because of the associated morbidity and high case fatality rate among hospitalized patients. Even after recovery, there may be residual problems such as sensorineural hearing loss. The initial presentation of Lassa fever may be with non-specific symptoms similar to what is seen in the more common febrile illnesses such as malaria or typhoid fever. In such a setting therefore, timely diagnosis of Lassa fever may be difficult. Case Report: We report a case of Lassa fever that presented to our institution. She was a middle aged woman who had non-specific symptoms of febrile illness and who died in less than 48 hours of admission. She had a subtle bleeding on the lip just before death which was what raised the suspicion for Lassa fever. Laboratory confirmation of Lassa fever was made retrospectively. Conclusion: When the presenting symptoms are non-specific, a high index of suspicion is required for timely recognition of Lassa fever. Early diagnosis is important for prompt therapeutic intervention as well as for limiting the spread of the disease. This is the second case of Lassa fever presenting to our hospital, but the first published case of Lassa fever from our hospital.
