A model for defect formation in materials exposed to radiation

A simple model for the stochastic evolution of defects in a material under irradiation is *** the master-equation formalism,we derive an expression for the average number of defects in terms of the power flux and the exposure *** model reproduces the qualitative behavior of self-healing due to defect recombination,reaching a steady-state concentration of defects that depends on the power flux of the incident radiation and the material temperature,while also suggesting a particular time scale on which the incident energy is most efficient for producing defects,in good agreement with experimental *** this model,we discuss the integral damage factor,a descriptor that combines the power flux and the square of the irradiation *** recent years,the scientific community involved in plasma-facing materials for nuclear fusion reactors has used this parameter to measure the equivalent material damage produced in experiments of various types with different types of radiation and wide ranges of power flux and irradiation *** integral damage factor is useful in practice but lacks formal theoretical *** this simple model,we find that it is directly proportional to the maximum concentration of defects.

The studies performed in the frame of a project destined for the search of new (t,n) and (p,n) reactions of interest in nuclear reactors are described. Experimental evidences of the observations of the reactions: 46Ti(t,n)48V, 48Ti(p,n)48V, 52Cr(t,n)54Mn, 56Fe(p,n)56Co, 72Ge(t,n)74As and 74Ge(p,n)74As, are presented. Additional data on some secondary reactions, already characterised for the production of 7Be, 56Co, 58Co, 65Zn and 88Y, were also obtained. The significance of these data is discussed.

The new reactor concepts are characterized by higher efficiency, better utilization of nuclear fuel and nuclear waste minimization. This approach means that it is necessary to continue a continued research and test of new materials in order to apply them in new reactors. In this study, the authors fbcused on the analysis of SiC alloys because, due to their particular properties, this alloy can be used in high temperature conditions where the pure silicon, semiconductor material par excellence, is inadequate to support them.

A neural network to predict reactor core behaviors

The global fuel management problem in BWRs(Boiling Water Reactors) can be understood as a very complex optimization problem,where the variables represent design decisions and the quality assessment of each solution is done through a complex and computational expensive *** last aspect is the major impediment to perform an extensive exploration of the design space,mainly due to the time lost evaluating non promising *** this work,we show how we can train a Multi-Layer Perceptron(MLP) to predict the reactor behavior for a given *** trained MLP is able to evaluate the configurations immediately,thus allowing performing an exhaustive evaluation of the possible configurations derived from a stock of fuel lattices,fuel reload patterns and control rods *** our particular problem,the number of configurations is approximately 7.7×10^(10);the evaluation with the core simulator would need above 200 years,while only 100hours were required with our approach to discern between bad and good *** later were then evaluated by the simulator and we confirm the MLP *** good core configurations reached the energy requirements,satisfied the safety parameter constrains and they could reduce uranium enrichment costs.

Antimicrobial power of biosynthesized Ag nanoparticles using refined Ginkgo biloba leaf extracts

Silver nanoparticles(Ag NPs),relative to existing antibacterial agents,are more effective,less toxic and more economical,and have shown enormous potential for the nanomedicine *** this work,we report a‘green’method for the rapid and efficient synthesis of Ag NPs using Ginkgo biloba extracts as reducing agent and capping *** properties of Ag NPs against fungi and bacteria were *** results showed that the Ginkgo biloba extracts are crucial for the preparation of uniform and monodispersed Ag *** prepared Ag NPs exhibited remarkable antibacterial *** minimum inhibitory concentrations of Ag NPs for Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa were 0.044 and 0.088μg·mL−1,***,Ag NPs exhibited excellent bactericidal performance against MDR-Pseudomonas *** was found that the effect of the antibacterial activity of Ag NPs on Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus was tightly related to the reactive oxygen species *** research provides guidelines for the efficient green synthesis of Ag NPs and its antibacterial applications.
