The non stoichiometric high rate discharge hydrogen storage alloys series MlNi 3.85 Co 0.45 Mn 0.4 Al 0.3 X 0.1 (Ml represents the lanthanum rich mischmetal, and X=Mg,Si,Sn) were prepared. The XRD and EDS results show that the high catalysis active miscellaneous La 2Ni 7 phase forms except for main phase LaNi 5 in the alloy body. The high rate discharge performance of hydrogen storage alloys electrode was improved because of the formation of La 2Ni 7 phase. The discharge capacities at 0.2C, 1C and 5C discharge rate reach 320 mAh·g -1 , 300 mAh·g -1 and 260 mAh·g -1 respectively when X is (Mg+Si). At the same scanning rate of circular volt—ampere testing, the surface anode oxidation peak current and peak area of the alloy containing (Mg+Si) electrode are far more larger than that of the high cobalt alloy MlNi 3.55 Co 0.75 Mn 0.4 Al 0.3 (AB 5). Furthermore, the cobalt content of the hydrogen storage alloy containing (Mg+Si) decreases by 40% and the high rate discharge performance improves obviously compare to high cobalt AB 5 alloys, it is promising that the hydrogen storage alloy containing (Mg+Si) becomes to an ideal dynamic battery cathode material.

Effects of Precursors for Preparing Intermediate Layer on the Performance of Ti/SnO_2+Sb_2O_3/PbO_2 Anode

The Ti/SnO2+Sb2O3/PbO2 anode with SnO2+Sb2O3 intermediate layer obtained by the polymeric precursor method (PPM) and with the conventional route was studied. The morphology and microstructure of SnO2+Sb2O3 intermediate layer derived from different precursors and the top PbO2 active layer were examined by means of ESEM and XRD. The lifetime and electrocatalytic activity of the anode were also assessed by the cyclic voltammetry and accelerated lifetime test in 1.0 mol/L H2SO4 solution. It was found that precursor solvents affected lifetime, microstructure and morphology of the anode, and had little influence on electrocatalysis activity of the electrodes. The accelerated lifetime of Ti/SnO2+Sb2O3/PbO2 anode with intermediate layer prepared by PPM was 29.5 h in 1.0 mol/L H2SO4 solution, which was respectively about four times and twice that of the anode prepared with ethylene glycol and ethanol. After the anode was subjected to thermal corrosion, the lifetime still reached 27 h in contrast to the others.

A new Schiff base, N-phenyl-(2S)-hydroxy-3-[(2-hydroxybenzylidene)amino]pro- pionamide, has been synthesized by using (S)-isoserine as the starting material. Its crystal struc- ture with solvent benzene was determined by X-ray single-crystal diffraction, elemental analysis and 1H NMR. The crystal belongs to the monoclinic system with space group P21, a = 5.673(3), b = 15.486(8), c = 18.753(9) ?, β = 90.086(7)o, C16H16O3N2?1/2C6H6, Mr = 323.36, V = 1647.7(14) ?3, Z = 4, Dc = 1.304 g/cm3, μ = 0.089 cm-1, F(000) = 684.00, the final R = 0.0624 and wR = 0.1320 for 2613 observed reflections (I > 2σ(I)). The asymmetric unit of the crystal has two crystallographically different molecules with the same configuration and one solvent benzene molecule, and they are not planar. In the crystal, molecules are stacked through H-bonds along [100] and the stacks are laterally interacted through H-bonds and extended along [010]. In the third direction [101], molecules interact through C–H…π interaction, which is one of the major factors stabilizing the crystal structure.

The polymorphic isomer [Cu(dafone)2(H2O)2](Hphth)2 1 (dafone = 4,5- diazafluoren-9-one, phth = 1,2-benzenedicarboxyl) has been synthesized and the structure was determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Crystal data: C38H26CuN4O12, monoclinic, space group P21/a with a = 11.5863(18), b = 25.512(4), c = 11.878(2) ?, β = 111.696(3)o, V = 3262.1(9) ?3, Mr = 794.17, Z = 4, Dc = 1.617 g/cm3, F(000) = 1628, μ = 0.748 mm-1, R = 0.0603 and wR = 0.1132 for 6878 observed reflections with I > 2σ(I). 1 consists of one [Cu(dafone)2(H2O)2]2+ cation and two monoprotonated 1,2-benzenedicarboxyl (Hphth) anions and forms a two-dimensional hydrogen bond network via intermolecular hydrogen bond interactions between the coordinated water molecules and carboxylato-oxygen atoms from monoprotonated benzenedicarboxyl anions.

Investigation on a Non-cyanide Plating Process of Ni-P Coating on Magnesium Alloy AZ91D

In this research we presented a non-cyanide plating process of Ni-P alloy coating on Mg alloy AZ91D. By applying a new process flow of electroless nickel plating in which zinc coating is used as transition of Ni-P coating on Mg alloy AZ91D, the process of copper transition coating plated in the cyanides bath can be replaced. A new bath composed of NiSO4 was established by orthogonal test. The results show that zinc transition coating can increase the adhesion and protect the Mg alloy substrate from the bath corrosion. The optimal plating bath composition is NiSO4·6H2O 20 g/L, NaH2PO2·H2O20g/L and C6H8O7·H2O 2.5 g/L, and optimal bath acidity and optimal plating temperature are pH 4.0 and 95℃, respectively. The present process flow is composed of ultrasonic cleaning→alkaline cleaning→acid pickling→activation→double immersing zinc→electroplating zinc→electroless nickel plating→passivation treatment. The present non-cyanide process of electroless nickel plating is harmless to our surroundings and Ni-P coating on Mg alloy AZ91D produced by present process possesses good adhesion and corrosion resistance.

The polystyrenylphosphonous acid (PSPA) of low polymerization degree was prepared with one step reaction. The reaction mechanism was changed with different initiators. For the reaction with AIBN or BPO as the initiator, there are 2 or 3 series of radical reaction chains and 5 or 9 series of polystyrenyl products. The main products are PSPA without or with the fragment of the initiator H[CH(C6H5)-CH2]n-PO2H2 and C6H5CO2-[CH2CH (C6H5)]n-PO2H2 respectively.

Chemical Vapor Infiltration (CVI) processes are the essential techniques for fabrication of high performance carbon carbon composites. Based on the polarized light and scanning electron analysis, the authors study the micro morphology and texture characteristics of pyrolytic carbon deposited in CVI process, as well as the growth behavior of pyrolytic carbon. The research shows that Rough Laminar (RL) texture has the hierarchical and self similar structural features, which reflects the stage growth and self similar behavior during the growth course of pyrolytic carbon. According to the two growth features, a laminated growth model of pyrolytic carbon is proposed with the concept of Cone Growth Units (CGU). The laminated growth model can provide a fine description for the growth course of RL pyrolytic carbon. The model indicates that formation, developing and combination of local high order structures (such as CGU structures) are the essential factors for the growth of RL texture. Smooth Laminar (SL) texture and ISO carbon come into being with long range orderliness and isotropy structure respectively, which no local high orderliness intermediate involves in.
