Lubricant Biodegradation Enhancers: Designed Chemistry and Engineered Technology

In recent decades, a growing worldwide trend of developing the biodegradable lubricants has been prevailing to form a specific field of green chemistry and green engineering. Enhancement of biodegradability of unreadily biodegradable petroleum-based lubricants has as such become an urgent must. For over a decade the authors have been focusing on the improvement of biodegradability of unreadily biodegradable lubricants such as petroleum-based lubricating oils and greases. A new idea of lubricant biodegradation enhancer was put forward by the authors with the aim to stimulate the biodegradation of unreadily biodegradable lubricants by incorporating the enhancer into the lubricants in order to turn the lubricants into greener biodegradable ones and to help in situ bioremediation of lubricant-contaminated environment. This manuscript summarizes our recent efforts relating to the chemistry and technology of biodegradation enhancers for lubricants. Firstly, the chemistry of lubricant biodegradation enhancers was designed based on the principles of bioremediation for the treatment of hydrocarbon contaminated environment. Secondly, the ability of the designed biodegradation enhancers for increasing the biodegradability of unreadily biodegradable industrial lubricants was investigated through biodegradability evaluation tests, microbial population analysis, and biodegradation kinetics modeling. Finally, the impact of biodegradation enhancers on some crucial performance characteristics of lubricants such as lubricity and oxidation stability was tested via tribological evaluation and oxidation determinations. Our results have shown that the designed chemistry of nitrogenous and/or phosphorous compounds such as lauroyl glutamine, oleoyl glycine, oleic diethanolamide phosphate and lauric diethanolamide borate was outstanding in boosting biodegradation of petroleum-based lubricants which was ascribed to increase the microbial population and decrease the oil-water interfacial tens

Friction and Wear Performance of Magnesium Alloy against Steel under Lubrication of Rapeseed Oil with BN-containing Additive

A BN-containing additive,the boron and nitrogen modified rapeseed oil (abbreviated as BNR),was prepared by chemical modification of rapeseed oil with boric and nitrous *** friction and wear performances of the AZ91D magnesium alloy against the GCr15 bearing steel under lubrication of rapeseed oil containing BNR were evaluated on a SRV *** topography and chemical species of the worn surfaces of magnesium alloy were analyzed by a scanning electron microscope (SEM) and an X-ray photoelectron spectroscope (XPS),*** test results indicated that the friction and wear of the magnesium alloy-steel tribomates could be effectively reduced by incorporating BNR into the rapeseed oil *** friction coefficients and the wear scars of magnesium alloy decreased with an increasing content of *** surface lubricated with the BNR-doped rapeseed oil demonstrated less wear as compared with that lubricated with neat rapeseed *** enhanced anti-wear and friction-reducing abilities of rapeseed oil provided by BNR in the lubrication of magnesium alloy against steel were ascribed to the formation of a composite boundary lubrication film due to the strong adsorption of BNR and rapeseed oil onto the lubricated surfaces and their tribochemical reactions with magnesium alloy.

Calcination/acid-activation treatment of an anodic oxidation TiO_2/Ti film catalyst

The aim of this work was to investigate the effects of calcination/acid-activation on the composition, structure, and photocatalytic （PC） reduction property of an anodic oxidation TiO2/Ti film catalyst. The surface morphology and phase composition were examined by scanning electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction. The catalytic property of the film catalysts was evaluated through the removal rate of potassium chromate during the PC reduction process. The results showed that the film catalysts were composed of anatase and rutile TiO2 with a micro-porous surface structure. The calcination treatment increased the content of TiO2 in the film, changed the relative ratio of anatase and rutile TiO2, and decreased the size of the micro pores of the film catalysts. The removal rate of potassium chromate was related to the technique parameters of calcination/acid-activation treatment. When the anodic oxidation TiO2/Ti film catalyst was calcined at 873 K for 30 min and then acid-activated in the concentrated H2SO4 for 60 min, it presented the highest catalytic property, with the removal rate of potassium chromate of 96.3% during the PC reduction process under the experimental conditions.

Isolation and Crystal Structure of Xanthones from Swertia Chirayita

In order to study the relationship between biological and pharmacological activities with their structures, a series of tri- and tetra-oxygenated xanthones including 1-hydroxyl-2,3,4,7- tetramethoxy xanthone 1, 1-hydroxyl-2,3,4,5-tetramethoxyl xanthone 2, 1-hydroxyl-3,5-dimethoxy- xanthone 3, 1,8-dihydroxyl-3,5-dimethoxyl xanthone 4 and 1,5,8-trihydroxyl-3-methoxy xanthone 5 have been isolated from Swertia chirayita. Their structures were established on the basis of spectral and chemical evidences. The crystal structure of 5 was also investigated by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. It crystallizes in the triclinic system, space group P?with a = 7.1540(10), b = 7.520(2), c = 10.671(2) , V = 562.7(2) 3 , α = 86.50(3), β = 80.06(3) , γ = 85.00(3), Z = 2, Dc = 1.618 g/m3, R = 0.0405, wR = 0.1028 and F(000) = 284. The molecular structure of 5 is nearly planar and four substituents are much closer to the plane. Compound 5 contains three intermolecular hydro- gen bonds. A recent study shows that phenolic hydroxyls in xanthones are the main active groups capable of scavenging OH and O2.

Tribological Performances of Fatty Acyl Amino Acids Used as Green Additives in Lubricating Oil

The friction and wear characteristics of lauroyl glutamine, lauroyl glycine and lauroyl alanine, used as green additives in HVI 350 mineral lubricating oil, were evaluated on a four-ball tribotester. The morphologies and chemical species of the worn surfaces were analyzed by scanning electron microscope （SEM） and X-ray photoelectron spectroscope （XPS）, respectively. The test results indicated that the three fatty acyl amino acids could effectively improve the anti-wear and friction-reducing abilities of the HVI 350 mineral oil. The improvement in anti-wear and friction-reducing abilities of the mineral oil by the related amino acids was mainly ascribed to the formation of a composite boundary lubrication film due to the adsorption of amino acids on the friction surfaces.

In this paper,water diffusion coefficients and dynamics in PI film/adhesive/PI film joints are determined with both energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy and elemental *** energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy analysis (EDX) is an easy and exact method for determination of water diffusion coefficients and *** we have calculated the water diffusion coefficients and dynamics in PI film/adhesive/PI film joints subjected to different surface treatments with both energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy and elemental *** water diffusion coefficients and dynamics in the adhesive joints determined with EDX analysis are almost the same as those determined with elemental *** durability of the adhesive joints with PI film subjected to C06O irradiation is better than those subjected to acetone washing treatment and chemical treatment.

Evolution and REE Geochemistry of Huangsha-Tieshanlong Ore-bearing Granite

Our studies show that the granite bodies (γ;and γ;) which constitute the Huangsha-Tieshanlongcomposite granitic intrusion in jiungxi are characterized by their similarities in mineral assemblage,petrochemistry, trace element and REE distribution pattern. The values of ∑REE, ∑LREE, ∑HREE,∑Ce/∑Y, δEu and La/Yb apparently decrease from γ;to γ;, γ;and γ;. It is shown that the earlyYenshanian W（Ta, Nb）-bearing granite (γ;) and late Yenshanian Ta, Nb-bearing granite （γ;） may havebeen derived from the differentiation and evolution of granitic magmas due to repeated remelting of the crustand their earlier and later intrusion. Although the earlier (γ;) and later （γ;） albitized Ta, Nb-bearinggranites show some obvious differences in REE content, their δEu values and La/Yb ratios are similar to eachother. Therefore, it may be concluded that the early and late Ta, Nb-bearing granites were derived from acongenetic magma.

Petrochemical Characteristics of the Mesozoic-Cenozoic Volcanic Rock in Huanghua Basin

Based on the data from typical core sampling, combined with K Ar dating, petrochemistry ,trace elemental geochemistry and isotopic compositions of the Mesozoic Cenozoic volcanic rock in the Huanghua basin, Bohai region, the geochemical features of the volcanic rock were studied. The rocks fall into four groups: Cenozoic basalt,Mesozoic late Cretaceous basaltic trachy andesite, Mesozoic late Cretaceous trachy dacite and liparite,and Mesozoic early Triassic dacite. The distribution pattern of the main elemental abundance of late Mesozoic shows a typical ***,for the volcanic rock,the amount of SiO 2 decreases gradually,the contents of Fe 2O 3,FeO,CaO,MgO,TiO 2,P 2O 5 and MnO increase little by *** Cenozoic basalt is derived from the asthenospheric *** late Cretaceous basaltic trachy andesite is derived from the enriched lithospheric *** late Cretaceous and early Palaeogene,the felsic volcanic rock may be derived from fractional melting of the crust.

Petrology and Petrogenesis of the Eclogite in Mt. Dabie Area,Central China

The occurrence, mineralogy and geochemistry of eclogites in the *** area show that they were subjected to a high-pressure metamorphism together with the country rocks, but their petrochemistry and REE geochemistry show some difference from those of the country rocks. The geochemical characteristics of the eclogites are similar to those of both continental tholeiitic basalt and oceanic tholeiitic basalt. The rocks probably subducted to the upper mantle with the Dabie metamorphic complex. When elevated to the surface, they were subjected to different stages of retrogressive metamorphism.
