The beak is a key evolutionary innovation in the avian tree of *** diversity in morphology shows birds’successful colonization of various ecological niches on the Earth(Pigot et al.2020),and its morphological plasticity can also enable birds to rapidly respond to changes in environments(Grant&Grant 2006).These natures helped birds survive multiple extinction events(Larson et al.2016).Therefore,investigating the morphological evolution of avian beaks and the underlying developmental and molecular mechanisms will help to decipher the evolution of birds and boost the development of the theory of evolutionary biology.

Long-term excessive intake of nitrite(NO_(2)^(-))poses a great threat to human health,needing a simple and fast method to detect NO_(2)-in ***,via a simple and feasible strategy,Mn/Yb/Er triple-doped CeO_(2) nanozyme(Mn/Yb/Er/CeO_(2))was synthesized for highly sensitive ratiometric detection of *** doping Mn,Yb,Er into CeO_(2) lattice structure,Mn/Yb/Er/CeO_(2) nanozyme showed enhanced oxidase-like activity,obtaining a higher density of oxygen vacancy and a higher ratio of Ce^(3+)to Ce~(4+)than that of CeO_(2).The 3,3,5,5-tetramethylbenzidine(TMB)can be effectively oxidized by Mn/Yb/Er/CeO_(2) to produce the oxidized TMB(ox TMB),showing a significant absorption signal at 652 ***,nitrite can react with ox TMB to produce yellow diazotized ox TMB,which is accompanied by an elevated absorption signal at 445 nm and a decreased absorption signal at 652 ***,based on the oxidase-mimetic activity of Mn/Yb/Er/CeO_(2) and the diazotization reaction between NO_(2)^(-)and ox TMB,a ratiometric colorimetric assay was established for NO_(2)^(-)detection in ***,by integrating Mn/Yb/Er/CeO_(2) with a smartphone,a colorimetric smartphone-sensing platform was successfully fabricated for visualization and quantitative detection of NO_(2)^(-).Notably,this two-detection mode showed excellent sensitivity,selectivity,reliability and practicability in monitoring the NO_(2)^(-)in real samples,impling its great potential for food safety.

Soluble N-ethylmaleimide-sensitive factor attachment protein receptor(SNAER) family proteins are the engines of most intra-cellular and exocytotic membrane fusion pathways(Jahn and Scheller 2006).Over the past two decades, in-vitro liposome fusion has been proven to be a powerful tool to reconstruct physiological SNARE-mediated membrane fusion processes(Liu et al. 2017). The reconstitution of the membrane fusion process not only provides direct evidence of the capability of the cognate SNARE complex in driving membrane fusion but also allows researchers to study the functional mechanisms of regulatory proteins in related pathways(Wickner and Rizo 2017). Heretofore, a variety of delicate methods for in-vitro SNARE-mediated liposome fusion have been established(Bao et al. 2018;Diao et al. 2012; Duzgunes 2003; Gong et al. 2015; Heo et al. 2021; Kiessling et al. 2015; Kreye et al.2008; Kyoung et al. 2013; Liu et al. 2017; Scott et al. 2003). Although technological advances have made reconstitution more physiologically relevant, increasingly elaborate experimental procedures, instruments, and data processing algorithms nevertheless hinder the non-experts from setting up basic SNARE-mediated liposome fusion assays. Here, we describe a low-cost, timesaving, and easy-to-handle protocol to set up a foundational in-vitro SNARE-mediated liposome fusion assay based on our previous publications(Liu et al. 2023; Wang and Ma 2022). The protocol can be readily adapted to assess various types of SNARE-mediated membrane fusion and the actions of fusion regulators by using appropriate alternative additives(e.g., proteins, macromolecules, chemicals, etc.). The total time required for one round of the assay is typically two days and could be extremely compressed into one day.

Royal jelly(RJ)is a biologically active substance secreted by the hypopharyngeal and mandibular glands of worker *** is widely claimed that RJ reduces oxidative ***,the antioxidant activity of RJ has mostly been determined by in vitro chemical detection methods or by external administration drugs that cause oxidative *** RJ can clear the endogenous production of reactive oxygen species(ROS)in cells remains largely ***,we systematically investigated the antioxidant properties of RJ using several endogenous oxidative stress models of *** found that RJ enhanced sleep quality of aging Drosophila,which is decreased due to an increase of oxidative damage with *** supplementation improved survival and suppressed ROS levels in gut cells of flies upon exposure to hydrogen peroxide or to the neurotoxic agent ***,RJ supplementation moderated levels of ROS in endogenous gut cells and extended lifespan after exposure of flies to heat *** deprivation leads to accumulation of ROS in the gut cells,and RJ attenuated the consequences of oxidative stress caused by sleep loss and prolonged ***,RJ prevented cell oxidative damage caused by heat stress or sleep deprivation,with the antioxidant activity in vivo independent of Keap1/Nrf2 *** supplementation activated oxidoreductase activity in the guts of flies,suggesting its ability to inhibit endogenous oxidative stress and maintain health,possibly in humans.

Heteroconchia,a widespread and abundant aquatic invertebrate,is an important clade of bivalve *** relationship between the three branches of Heteroconchia,Palaeoheterodonta,Archiheterodonta,and Euheterodonta has become a main controversy in molecular studies of the relationships between *** the present study,we assembled the complete mitochondrial genomes of Tapes dorsatus(Veneridae)and Cardita variegata(Carditidae)using high-throughput *** is the first mitochondrial genome belonging to the family Carditidae to be *** used 12 protein coding genes(excluding atp8)from the complete mitochondrial genomes of 146 species to recover the internal relationships of *** results support the traditional view of early branching of Palaeoheterodonta and the recovery of the monophyly of Palaeoheterodonta,Anomalodesmata,*** analysis show that gene arrangement within Venerida was highly ***-calibrated phylogenetic studies based on a relaxed molecular clock model suggested that Veneridae originated approximately 337.62 million years ago(Ma)and split into two major clades,whereas Carditidae originated approximately 510.09 *** results provide evidence of the internal relationships of Heteroconchia.

Quality and yield are the primary concerns in kiwifruit breeding,but research on the genetic mechanisms of fruit size,shape,and ascorbic acid(ASA)content is currently very limited,which restricts the development of kiwifruit molecular *** this study,we obtained a total of 8.88 million highly reliable single nucleotide polymorphism(SNP)markers from 140 individuals from the natural hybrid offspring of Actinidia eriantha cv.‘White’using whole genome resequencing technology.A genome-wide association study was conducted on eight key agronomic traits,including single fruit weight,fruit shape,ASA content,and the number of inflorescences per branch.A total of 59 genetic loci containing potential functional genes were located,and candidate genes related to single fruit weight,fruit length,ASA content,number of inflorescences per branch and other traits were identified within the candidate interval,such as AeWUSCHEL,AeCDK1(cell cycle dependent kinase),AeAO1(ascorbic oxidase)and AeCO1(CONSTANS-like 4).After constructing an RNAi vector for AeAO1 and injecting it into the fruit of cv.‘Midao 31’to interfere with the expression of the AeAO1 gene,the results showed that the activity of ascorbic oxidase in the fruit of‘Midao 31’significantly decreased,while the content of ASA significantly *** study provides valuable insights into the genetic basis of variation in *** fruit traits,which may benefit molecular marker-assisted breeding efforts.

Vascular plants have evolved intricate long-distance signaling mechanisms to cope with environmental stress,with reactive oxygen species(ROS)emerging as pivotal systemic signals in plant stress ***,the exact role of ROS as root-to-shoot signals in the drought response has not been *** this study,we reveal that compared with wild-type plants,ferric reductase defective 3(frd3)mutants exhibit enhanced drought resistance concomitant with elevated NINE-CIS-EPOXYCAROTENOID DIOXYGENASE 3(NCED3)transcript levels and abscisic acid(ABA)contents in leaves as well as increased hydrogen peroxide(H_(2)O_(2))levels in roots and *** experiments distinctly illustrate that drought resistance can be conferred by the frd3 rootstock regardless of the scion genotype,indicating that long-distance signals originating from frd3 roots promote an increase in ABA levels in ***,the drought resistance conferred by the frd3 mutant rootstock is weakened by the CAT2-overexpressing scion,suggesting that H_(2)O_(2)may be involved in long-distance ***,the results of comparative transcriptome and proteome analyses support the drought resistance phenotype of the frd3 *** together,our findings substantiate the notion that frd3 root-derived long-distance signals trigger ABA synthesis in leaves and enhance drought resistance,providing new evidence for root-to-shoot long-distance signaling in the drought response of plants.

Metal-organic framework(MoF)with a buildable internal structure has aroused great interest focus as self-sacrificing precursors of porous carbon(PC).However,as a drug carrier,the MOF-derived PC developed thus far are generally composed of irregular powder shape due to their crystalline nature,which consequently causing the cerebral infarction,cerebral thrombosis,and other blood *** this article,we propose a novel approach to constructing amorphous carbon microspheres(AcMs)by dis-torting the topological network through hydrothermal treatment precursors of MIL-101(Fe).Then,a distinctive MIL-101(Fe)-derived spherical porous carbons(MSPC)is achieved through high temperature calcination toward *** of the glucose initial concentration and hydrothermal treatment time on the sphericity of the as-prepared mesoporous MsPC were investigated in *** the loading capacities and sustained-release performances of nitroimidazole drugs over MsPC through simulation internal environment of human body at different pH values was systematically *** nitro-imidazole drugs loading rate and release time of MsPC are 10% and 17 h under preferred ***,the MSPC exhibited very low toxicity on Hela cells and 293T cells at the concentrations tested(10-800μg mL^(-1)).This study,therefore,supports the potential of the mesoporous carbon spheres as a carrierfor nitroimidazole drug delivery.

The influence of wing morphology upon intraspecific divergence in birds: A global study of subspecies richness

Since the time of Darwin,subspecies have been recognized as an initial stage in the evolution of ***,the impact of dispersal on subspecies richness in birds globally has received little attention,despite dispersal being a key factor in determining the rate of evolution and playing a significant role in evolutionary ***,it is important to conduct a comprehensive study to address this *** this study,we aimed to assess the association between subspecies richness(measured by the number of subspecies)and dispersal ability(measured by the hand-wing index)on a global scale,using a dataset of over 7000 bird *** results revealed a negative correlation between dispersal ability and the number of subspecies,without any quadratic *** wing is a crucial phenotypic trait for birds,and the concept of subspecies is important in speciation theory and conservation ***,our findings not only enhance our understanding of the association between avian morphological traits and evolutionary divergence but also have implications for the conservation of avian species diversity.
