Spatiotemporal variation and influencing factors of desertification sensitivity on the Qinghai-Xizang Plateau,China

Due to irrational human activities and extreme climate,the Qinghai-Xizang Plateau,China,faces a serious threat of *** has a detrimental effect on the ecological environment and socioeconomic *** this study,the desertification sensitivity index(DSI)model was established by integrating the spatial distance model and environmentally sensitive area index evaluation method,and then the model was used to quantitatively analyze the spatial and temporal characteristics of desertification sensitivity of the Qinghai-Xizang Plateau from 1990 to *** results revealed that:(1)a general increasing tendency from southeast to northwest was identified in the spatial distribution of desertification *** low-sensitivity areas were mostly concentrated in the Hengduan and Nyaingqêntanglha mountains and surrounding forest and meadow *** high-sensitivity areas were located mainly in the Kunlun and Altun mountains and surrounding decertified *** center of gravity of all types of desertification-sensitive areas moved to the northwest,and the desertification sensitivity showed a decreasing trend as a whole;(2)the area of highly sensitive desertification areas decreased by 8.37%,with extreme sensitivity being the largest change among the sensitivity *** desertification sensitivity transfer was characterized by a greater shift to lower sensitivity levels(24.56%)than to higher levels(2.03%),which demonstrated a declining trend;(3)since 1990,the change in desertification sensitivity has been dominated by the stabilizing type Ⅰ(29.30%),with the area of continuously increasing desertification sensitivity accounting for only 1.10%,indicating that the management of desertification has achieved positive results in recent years;and(4)natural factors have had a more significant impact on desertification sensitivity on the Xizang Plateau,whereas socioeconomic factors affected only localized *** main factors influencing deserti

Ingenious construction of a magnetic-recyclable photo-Fenton catalyst ZnFe_(2)O_(4)@MIL-88A(Fe)and its adsorption-degradation activity toward levofloxacin

Monotonic pore size and particles inseparability of metal-organic frameworks(MOFs)caused serious effects on its light absorption ability and charge separation,restricting its application for antibiotic such as levofloxacin(LEV)degradation in *** this study,a magnetically detachable nano-photocatalyst(ZnFe_(2)O_(4)@MIL-88A(Fe))was synthesized using a simple two-step hydrothermal *** morphology and microstructure analyses showed that n-type ZnFe_(2)O_(4)catalyst particleswere efficiently assembled onto the surface of MIL-88A(Fe)*** activity studies indicated that the ZnFe_(2)O_(4)@MIL-88A(Fe)plus H_(2)O_(2)exhibiting a significantly boosted photo-Fenton activity toward LEV at visible light irradiation,compared to the pure ZnFe_(2)O_(4)and MIL-88A(Fe),the degradation efficiency accordingly reached up to nearly 82%and 25%within 60 *** excellent photocatalytic performance was ascribed to the synergistic effects of the heterogeneous structure of ZnFe_(2)O_(4)and MIL-88A(Fe),whereby the efficient separation of charge carriers in the catalytic system is mutually reinforced with the efficient reduction of Fe^(3+)and Fe^(2+).Meanwhile,the degradationmechanism and intermediates of LEV during the photo-Fenton reaction process were also studied in depth through free radical burst,electron paramagnetic resonance,and mass spectrometry analyses,***,the ZnFe_(2)O_(4)@MIL-88A(Fe)composite catalyst displayed significant stability and ease of separation,indicating potential for the photooxidative degradation of organic pollutants.

Different mechanisms of Eurasian snow cover on precipitation during the early and late pre-rainy season in South China

The interannual variability in precipitation during the pre-rainy season(PRS) in South China is significantly correlated with Eurasian snow cover. This study elucidates the distinct mechanisms by which Eurasian snow cover anomalies in March influence precipitation during the early(pre-monsoon) and late(post-monsoon) PRS. In the early PRS, anomalous snow cover in the western region of Eastern Europe(WEE) triggers a southeastward-propagating wave train that impacts Central *** teleconnection pattern induces anomalous cyclonic circulation in Central Asia, which reinforces the midlatitude zonal wind,contributing to the zonal wind wave train pattern towards East Asia. As a result, the East Asian subtropical westerly jet and the western North Pacific subtropical high are enhanced, and the related upper-level divergence, ascending motion, and moisture convergence in South China are intensified, collectively promoting precipitation there. In contrast, during the late PRS, increased snow cover across the eastern sector of Eastern Europe(EEE) and the region east of Lake Baikal(ELB) inhibit South China's precipitation. The wave pattern associated with the EEE(ELB) snow anomaly propagates southeastwards(southwards) to lower latitudes, intensifying the western North Pacific subtropical high. Furthermore, the perturbation stemming from the ELB region induces negative geopotential height anomalies aloft and amplifies the baroclinic anticyclone over the western Pacific. This resulted in prevailing subsidence over South China, which in turn suppresses precipitation during the late PRS. Numerical experiments corroborate the observed circulation adjustments and precipitation responses to snow cover anomalies in the two periods, lending credence to the proposed mechanisms.

Land use/cover change(LUCC)constitutes the spatial and temporal patterns of ecological security,and the construction of ecological networks is an effective way to ensure ecological *** the spatial and temporal change characteristics of ecological network and analyzing the integrated relationship between LUCC and ecological security are crucial for ensuring regional ecological *** is one of the provinces with fragile ecological environment in China,and rapid changes in land use patterns in recent decades have threatened ecological ***,taking Gansu Province as the study area,this study simulated its land use pattern in 2050 using patch-generating land use simulation(PLUS)model based on the LUCC trend from 2000 to 2020 and integrated the LUCC into morphological spatial pattern analysis(MSPA)to identify ecological sources and extract the ecological corridors to construct ecological network using circuit *** results revealed that,according to the prediction results in 2050,the areas of cultivated land,forest land,grassland,water body,construction land,and unused land would be 63,447.52,39,510.80,148,115.18,4605.21,8368.89,and 161,752.40 km^(2),*** number of ecological sources in Gansu Province would increase to 80,with a total area of 99,927.18 km^(2).The number of ecological corridors would increase to 191,with an estimated total length of 6120.66 *** ecological sources and ecological corridors showed a sparse distribution in the northwest and dense distribution in the southeast of the province at the spatial *** number of ecological pinch points would reach 312 and the total area would expect to increase to 842.84 km^(2),with the most pronounced increase in the Longdong *** with 2020,the number and area of ecological barriers in 2050 would decrease significantly by 63 and 370.71 km^(2),*** general,based on the prediction results,the connectivity of ecological network of Gansu

Spatial Patterns and Controlling Factors of Soil Organic Carbon and Total Nitrogen in the Three River Headwaters Region,China

The alpine ecosystem has great potential for carbon *** organic carbon(SOC)and total nitrogen(TN)are highly sensitive to climate change,and their dynamics are crucial to revealing the effect of climate change on the structure,function,and services of the ***,the spatial distribution and controlling factors of SOC and TN across various soil layers and vegetation types within this unique ecosystem remain inadequately *** this study,256 soil samples in 89 sites were collected from the Three River Headwaters Region(TRHR)in China to investigate SOC and TN and to explore the primary factors affecting their distribution,including soil,vegetation,climate,and geography *** results show that SOC and TN contents in 0-20,20-40,40-60,and 60-80 cm soil layers are 24.40,18.03,14.04,12.40 g/kg and 2.46,1.90,1.51,1.17 g/kg,respectively;with higher concentrations observed in the southeastern region compared to the northwest of the ***-way analysis of variance reveals that SOC and TN levels are elevated in the alpine meadow and the alpine shrub relative to the alpine steppe in the 0-60 cm soil *** structural equation model explores that soil water content is the main controlling factor affecting the variation of SOC and ***,the geography,climate,and vegetation factors notably indirectly affect SOC and TN through soil ***,it can effectively improve soil water and nutrient conditions through vegetation restoration,soil improvement,and grazing management,and the change of SOC and TN can be fully understood by establishing monitoring networks to better protect soil carbon and nitrogen.

Multi-scenario simulation of land use change and its impact on ecosystem services in the northeastern edge of the Qinghai-Xizang Plateau,China

The Qinghai-Xizang Plateau(QXP)serves as a crucial ecological barrier in China and Asia,exerting profound influences on global climate and biodiversity *** Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture(hereinafter referred as Gannan Prefecture),located on the northeastern edge of the QXP,represents a fragile alpine ecosystem in which land use change significantly impacts ecosystem services(ESs).This study established a comprehensive framework,utilizing the Patch-generating Land-Use Simulation(PLUS)model coupled with the Integrated Valuation of Ecosystem Services and Tradeoffs(InVEST)model to predict land use patterns under the natural development scenario,cultivated land protection scenario,and ecological protection scenario for Gannan Prefecture by 2030 and evaluated four critical ESs:habitat quality(HQ),water yield(WY),soil retention(SR),and carbon storage(CS).The primary aim is to elucidate the impacts of dynamic land use change on *** results revealed that,from 2000 to 2020,HQ exhibited minimal variation,whereas CS experienced a slight ***,WY and SR showed significant *** the natural development scenario,construction land was projected to increase by 4247.74 hm^(2),primarily at the expense of forest *** cultivated land protection scenario anticipated an increase in farmland by 2634.36 hm^(2),which was crucial for maintaining food *** ecological protection scenario predicted a notable expansion of forest land,accompanied by a restrained development rate of construction *** ecological protection scenario also showed an increase in the ecosystem service index(ESI),encompassing 26.07%of the *** land and grassland emerged as the primary contributors to ESs,while construction land substantially impacted *** bodies exhibited minimal contribution to *** study enhanced the understanding of land use change impacts on ESs in fragile and high-altitude ecosystems,offering essential theoretical framework

Holocene climate change's impact on ecosystems has attracted considerable *** human activities increasingly influenced ecosystems during the Holocene,many paleo-records primarily reconstruct natural environmental changes,often neglecting the pre-instrumental human influenceon ecological *** understand ecosystem responses comprehensively,it is essential to consider anthropogenic impacts alongside natural ***,we present a Holocene chironomid record from Qinghai Crater Lake in Tengchong,southwestern China,examining the timing and magnitude of natural and anthropogenic impacts on the lake ecosystem throughout the *** results reveal that early to midHolocene chironomid communities,especially in terms of species richness,were mainly driven by rising summer temperatures associated with increased solar *** the late-Holocene,the weakening Indian Summer Monsoon led to fluctuating lake levels and intensified human impacts,impacting both chironomid species richness and community *** 0.8 ka BP,enhanced human disturbances shifted the chironomid community composition from mesotrophic taxa dominance(e.g.,Cladotanytasus,Macropelopia)to eutrophic taxa dominance(e.g.,Chironomus,Polypedilum).Over the past few centuries,human influence has further increased chironomid species richness but has led to declining community stability.

Activation of peroxymonosulfate by sustainable biomass-based carbon nanotubes for controlling the spread of plant viruses in water environments

With the increasing demand for water in hydroponic systems and agricultural irrigation,viral diseases have seriously affected the yield and quality of *** removing plant viruses in water environments,virus transmission can be prevented and agricultural production and ecosystems can be *** so far,there have been few reports on the removal of plant viruses in water ***,in this study,easily recyclable biomass-based carbon nanotubes catalysts were synthesized with varying metal activities to activate peroxymonosulfate(PMS).Among them,the magnetic 0.125Fe@NCNTs-1/PMS system showed the best overall removal performance against pepper mild mottle virus,with a 5.9 log_(10)removal within 1 ***,the key reactive species in the 0.125Fe@NCNTs-1/PMS system is^(1)O_(2),which can maintain good removal effect in real water matrices(river water and tap water).Through RNA fragment analyses and label free analysis,it was found that this system could effectively cleave virus particles,destroy viral proteins and expose their *** capsid protein of pepper mild mottle virus was effectively decomposed where serine may be the main attacking sites by^(1)O_(2).Long viral RNA fragments(3349 and 1642 nt)were cut into smaller fragments(∼160 nt)and caused their *** summary,this study contributes to controlling the spread of plant viruses in real water environment,which will potentially help protect agricultural production and food safety,and improve the health and sustainability of ecosystems.

Characteristics and Driving Forces of Spatial Expansion of Oasis Cities and Towns in Hexi Corridor, Gansu Province, China

This paper presents an integrated study of urban spatial expansion in the Hexi Corridor, Gansu Province, China based on TM, ETM remote sensing data in 1987, 1990, 1995, 2000, 2006 and 2011. The study explores the characteristics of urban spatial expansion and dynamic mechanism by using expansion speed index, expansion intensity index, compact index, fractal dimension, and extended flexibility index. We built the index system of influencing factors of urban spatial expansion by using the grey incidence model. The results showed that urban spatial expansion rate in the Hexi Corridor has been on the upward trend since 1987. Expansion intensity showed an obvious upward trend, however, the upward trend varied in different urban areas. In addition, the urban structure was loose relatively, but the urban compactness was more obvious. The urban spatial form tended to be simple, and the urban land use tended to become more intensive. Urban spatial expansion experienced several stages: padding internally, external expansion and padding internally. The main driving factors of urban spatial expansion are not the urban water resources and the oasis scale, but one or several factors such as economy, traffic, population, resource and national policy.

The Structure and Pattern of Urban Network in the Lanzhou-Xining Urban Agglomeration

In this paper,we use factor analysis to evaluate the urban comprehensive quality of each city in the Lanzhou-Xining(Lan-Xi)urban *** time distance was obtained by using GIS spatial analysis,and the structure and pattern of the spatial network were analyzed by using the gravity model and social network analysis *** results show that:1)The scale effect of the Lan-Xi urban agglomeration is gradually emerging,and it is gradually forming the urban agglomeration with Lanzhou and Xining as the core,the Lan-Xi high-speed railway as the axis,and a high-dense connection.2)Lanzhou and Xining are at the core of the Lan-Xi urban agglomeration,which has a strong attraction and spreads to neighboring cities.3)In the network structure of the Lan-Xi urban agglomeration,Lanzhou,Baiyin,Gaolan,Yuzhong,Yongdeng,Dingxi,Lintao,Xining,Ledu,Huangzhong,Ping’an,Minhe and Datong are located in the network core position,which have the superiority position and lead to the entire regional communication enhancement and the regional integration development.4)This urban agglomeration has significant subgroups,eight tertiary subgroups and four secondary subgroup;the tertiary subgroups which compose secondary subgroup have a close connection and mutually influence each other.5)The Lanzhou Metropolitan Area and the Xining Metropolitan Area have an important impact on the surrounding cities,and the peripheral cities are basically controlled by the central *** Dingxi subgroup,Lintao-Linxia subgroup,Gonghe subgroup have more structural holes than the subgroups within the Lanzhou Metropolitan Area and the Xining Metropolitan Area,so the peripheral cities of these subgroups have relatively less connection with surrounding cities.
