This research has carried out a two years' statistical analysis by tracking and gathering the errors in the English writing exercises made by the students, discovering obvious difference between errors made by the students in previous grades. Digging into the root of the difference has revealed that in the undergraduate stage the "college English" curriculum showed some flaws, serving as some useful materials for the course reform.

In this study, trans-consonantal vowel-to-vowel coarticulation in Chinese is investigated. The target words are in the form of ＇***＇, and the subjects are eight native speakers of standard Chinese. Vowel formants are examined at the onset, middle and offset points of the target vowel. Results show that trans-segmental coarticulation exists in Chinese, at the onset point of the target vowel, and in Chinese, coarticulatory effect does not extend to the middle point of the vowel.

In this paper, a new type of entropy, directional preimage entropy including topological and measure theoretic versions for ■-actions, is introduced. Some of their properties including relationships and the invariance are obtained. Moreover, several systems including ■-actions generated by the expanding maps, ■-actions defined on finite graphs and some infinite graphs with zero directional preimage branch entropy are studied.

The paper mainly demonstrates some pronunciation errors among middle school students, especially the first grade junior students in Xi’an Gaoxin Dier School, when learning English and analyzes the reasons by comparing Xi’an dialect and English with language transfer, articulatory phonetics as theoretical basis. At last, the paper gives some counter methods to facilitate the students learning in English pronunciation and further improve their oral English.
