Active event-driven reliable defense control for interconnected nonlinear systems under actuator faults and denial-of-service attacks

This study investigates the reliable control design for a class of interconnected nonlinear systems subjected to actuator faults, disturbances, and denial-of-service(DoS) attacks. DoS attacks are carried out in both sensor and controller channels. An integrated event-observer-based security sliding mode fault-tolerant control approach is presented to defend against DoS attacks and compensate for faults and disturbances.To be more specific, the fuzzy logic system(FLS) theory is used to approximate the unknown nonlinear component first. Using the output measurement and sensor channel triggered output information, an FLS aided nonlinear estimator is put forward, in which the faults and disturbances are reconstructed. Then, to achieve the trajectory tracking purpose in the presence of DoS attacks, actuator faults, and disturbances, an adaptive sliding mode manifold is established, based on which an event-driven mechanism is established and a reliable controller is designed. In the controller scheme, the fault compensation and disturbance rejection mechanisms are also included synchronously. The tracking ability is analyzed using the Lyapunov method and the FLS theory, followed by applications to an interconnected power network system and an interconnected inverted pendulum system to demonstrate the applicability of the proposed method.

Low voltage three-phase four-wire AC distribution grids may experience high neutral current,mainly caused by asymmetrical distribution of single-phase loads in three phases.High neutral current will not only increase line losses but also result in neutral potential variations.For the LV AC distribution grid established by a grid-forming inverter(e.g.,uninterruptible power supply and solid-state-transformer),it also suffers from the same neutral current issues.Therefore,this paper comparatively studies several neutral current control approaches and their impacts on grid voltage balance,which is required by grid code.Then,this paper proposes an optimal neutral current control approach,which can obtain maximum neutral current suppression with less impact on grid voltage balance.The correctness of the theoretical analysis is validated through both simulation and experimental results.

In this research,an Artificial Bee Colony(ABC)algorithm based Selective Harmonics Elimination(SHE)technique is used as a pulse generator in a reduced switch fifteen level inverter that receives input from a PV system.Pulse width modulation based on Selective Harmonics Elimination is mostly used to suppress lower-order harmonics.A high gain DC-DC-SEPIC converter keeps the photovoltaic(PV)panel’s output voltage constant.The Grey Wolf Optimization(GWO)filter removes far more Photovoltaic panel energy from the sunlight frame.To eliminate voltage harmonics,this unique inverter architecture employs a multi-carrier duty cycle,a high-frequency modulation approach.The proposed ABC harmonics elimination approach is compared to SHE strategies based on Particle Swarm Optimization(PSO)and Flower Pollination Algorithm(FPA).The suggested system’s performance is simulated and measured using the MATLAB simulation tool.The proposed ABC approach has a THD level of 4.86%,which is better than the PSO and FPA methods.

Extensive use of fossil fuel has led to an increase in solid and gaseous particulates in the environment,which in turn necessitated newer,effective,and economical control strategies to abate pollutants,particularly gaseous pollutants.In the current research work,focus has been placed on utilizing industry wastes to adsorb nitrogen oxides present in diesel engine exhaust,which is pre-treated by plasma.Sampled exhaust from a 5 kW diesel generator is exposed to discharge plasma where the oxidation of nitric oxide to nitrogen dioxide occurs,which is then made to flow through another reactor filled with industry wastes drawn from agriculture,foundry,utility,marine industry,etc.,comprising mulberry waste,rice husk,wheat husk,areca nut husk,sugarcane bagasse,coffee husk,foundry sand,lignite ash,red mud,and oyster shells.While the adsorption of nitrogen dioxide was observed in all the wastes,reduction of nitric oxide was observed in metallic compound-based industry wastes.At about 184 J/L,specific energy plasma cascaded industrial waste red mud yielded 98%NO_(x)removal efficiency,and that with agriculture rice husk waste yielded 53%NOx removal.TiO_(2)/Fe_(2)O_(3)present in industry wastes might have exhibited photo-catalysis in visible light resulting in the possible reduction of NO.A new pathway for recycling the waste can be expected through nitrogen dioxide adsorption,and the results are further discussed with respect to plasma-alone and cascaded plasma adsorbent systems.

In recent years,subsynchronous control interaction(SSCI)has frequently taken place in renewable-connected power systems.To counter this issue,utilities have been seeking tools for fast and accurate identification of SSCI events.The main challenges of SSCI monitoring are the time-varying nature and uncertain modes of SSCI events.Accordingly,this paper presents a simple but effective method that takes advantage of intrinsic time-scale decomposition(ITD).The main purpose is to improve the accuracy and robustness of ITD by incorporating the least-squares method.Results show that the proposed method strikes a good balance between dynamic performance and estimation accuracy.More importantly,the method does not require any prior information,and its performance is therefore not affected by the frequency constitution of the SSCI.Comprehensive comparative studies are conducted to demonstrate the usefulness of the method through synthetic signals,electromagnetic temporary program(EMTP)simulations,and field-recorded SSCI data.Finally,real-time simulation tests are conducted to show the feasibility of the method for real-time monitoring.

Stochastic LQ Control with Extra Measurability Restriction

Different from the standard linear quadratic(LQ) problem for stochastic systems, the LQ problem considered in the paper has extra measurability restrictions. The problem also appears in the LQ control problem for stochastic systems with delays, rational expectations problems, asymmetric information control, and so on. The essential difficulty lies in that one has to optimize the input and its conditional expectations simultaneously. The stochastic maximum principle(SMP) and orthogonal decomposition technique are the key tools. Firstly, the authors establish the SMP and convert the original problem into forward and backward stochastic difference equations(FBSDEs) with extra measurability restrictions. Secondly, the authors resolve the FBSDEs by using the orthogonal decomposition technique and obtain the analytical solution to the underlying problem. Thirdly, the authors explore the essential distinction between the problem and the standard stochastic LQ control problem.Finally, numerical examples are given to illustrate the obtained results.

This article introduces a cable-driven lower limb rehabilitation robot with movable distal anchor points(M-CDLR).The traditional cable-driven parallel robots(CDPRs)control the moving platform by changing the length of cables,M-CDLR can also adjust the position of the distal anchor point when the moving platform moves.The M-CDLR this article proposed has gait and single-leg training modes,which correspond to the plane and space motion of the moving platform,respectively.After introducing the system structure configuration,the generalized kinematics and dynamics of M-CDLR are established.The fully constrained CDPRs can provide more stable rehabilitation training than the under-constrained one but requires more cables.Therefore,a motion planning method for the movable distal anchor point of M-CDLR is proposed to realize the theoretically fully constrained with fewer cables.Then the expected trajectory of the moving platform is obtained from the motion capture experiment,and the motion planning of M-CDLR under two training modes is simulated.The simulation results verify the effectiveness of the proposed motion planning method.This study serves as a basic theoretical study of the structure optimization and control strategy of M-CDLR.

Global model of plasma-activated water over long time scale:Pulsed discharge and afterglow

Plasma-activated water(PAW)has been utilised in various application fields,and a deep understanding on the plasma chemistry is the foundation of application-orientated optimisation.In this paper,a global model is built to study the chemical properties of PAW produced by a dielectric barrier discharge that is powered by nanosecond voltage pulses.The applied voltage is firstly repeated with 10 kHz frequency for 100 s,and then shut down for 200 s afterglow,providing a long-term evolution regarding the production and consumption of some typical reactive oxygen/nitrogen species(RONS)in PAW.The calculated results agree principally with experimental measurements from literature.During the pulsed discharge,the water gradually acidises,and the long-lived species accumulate;while in the afterglow,most of the aqueous RONS decay rapidly,except for O_(3aq),NO_(3aq)^(−),H_(2)O_(2aq)and N_(2)O_(aq),which might be the main sources to sustain long-term effects.Furthermore,the effects of applied voltage and gap distance on RONS are investigated.Correlation analyses from Pearson correlation coefficient indicate that gaseous RONS are more sensitive to the gap distance,while the aqueous ones are more sensitive to the voltage amplitude,suggesting the possibility to independently regulating the gaseous and aqueous chemistry.

Self-attention reinforcement learning for multi-beam combining in mmW ave 3D-MIMO systems

Machine learning(ML)has been empowering all aspects of the wireless communication system design, among which, the reinforcement learning(RL)-based approaches have attracted a lot of research attention since they can interact with the environment directly and learn from the collected experiences efficiently. In this paper, we propose a novel and efficient RL-based multi-beam combining scheme for future millimeter-wave(mmWave)three-dimensional(3D)multi-input multi-output(MIMO)communication systems. The proposed scheme does not require perfect channel state information(CSI)or precise user location information which both are generally difficult to obtain in practice, and well addresses the crucial challenge of computational complexity incurred by the extremely huge state and action spaces associated with multiple users, multiple paths, and multiple 3D beams. In particular, a self-attention deep deterministic policy gradient(DDPG)-based beam selection and combination framework is proposed to learn the 3D beamforming pattern without CSI adaptively. We aim to maximize the sum-rate of the mmWave 3D-MIMO system by optimizing the serving beam set and the corresponding combining weights for each user. To this end, the transformer is incorporated into the DDPG to obtain the global information of the input elements and capture the signal directions precisely, which leads to a near-optimal beamformer design. Simulation results verify the superiority of the proposed self-attention DDPG over conventional ML-based beamforming schemes in terms of sum-rate under various scenarios.
