Provenance of the Southeastern South China Block in the Late Triassic and Initiation of Paleo-Pacific Subduction: Evidence from Detrital Zircon U-Pb Geochronology

During the Late Paleozoic–Early Mesozoic Era, the sediment transport system and tectonic regime in the southeastern margin of the South China Block(SESCB) all changed, significantly affected by the Paleo-Pacific subduction. However, controversy exists about the Paleo-Pacific subduction's initiation time. This study uses detrital zircon U-Pb ages to discuss the Late Triassic source-tosink system in the SESCB. It provides some references for the Paleo-Pacific subduction process based on crucial age information and zircons' trace elements. The paleogeography and similarity of detrital zircon age distribution indicate that three sinks were found in the SESCB during the Late Triassic: 1. the Yangchun-Kaiping-Gaoming area, comprising major age ranges of 260–220, 460–400, and 1 200–800 Ma, which might be sourced from the Yunkai terrane; 2. the Jiexi-Kanshi-Nanjing area, characterized by the significant age component of 2 000–1 800 Ma, which corresponded to the Wuyi terrane; 3. the Xinan area, consisting of significant age groups of 290 – 250 and 380 – 320 Ma, which might be sourced from the magmatic rocks formed by the Huinan Movement and Paleo-Pacific subduction. Note that 290–250 Ma zircons were widely distributed in the Upper Triassic strata, and their trace elements suggested the existence of a magmatic arc near the SESCB during the 290–250 Ma. Thus, we propose that the Paleo-Pacific subduction might have begun in the Early Permian.

Origin of the Yueguang gold deposit in Xinhua, Hunan Province, South China: insights from fl uid inclusion and hydrogen–oxygen stable isotope analysis

The Yueguang gold deposit is located in Fengjia,Xinhua County,Hunan Province,South *** represents a recently discovered small-scale gold deposit situated in the southwestern region of the Jiangnan Orogenic Belt,west of the Baimashan granitic *** order to discern the characteristics of the ore-formingﬂuids,the underlying mineralization processes,and establish a foundation for the origin of the Yueguang gold depositﬂuid inclusion micro-thermometry,as well as quartz hydrogen and oxygen isotope analysis,have been carried out on samples obtained from various stages of *** hydrothermal miner-alization stages within the Yueguang gold deposit can be categorized into three stages:(i)the barren,pre-ore quartz-pyrite stage(Stage Ⅰ),the quartz-pyrite-gold stage(Stage Ⅱ),and the post-ore quartz-carbonate stage(Stage Ⅲ),with the second stage being the main mineralization ***ﬂuid inclusions identiﬁed in samples from the main min-eralization stage can predominantly be described with the NaCl–H_(2)O and CO_(2)–NaCl–H_(2)O *** inclusions display homogenization temperatures ranging from 158.8 to 334.9℃,and theﬂuid salinity ranges from 0.3%to 4.0%(wt.%NaCl equiv.).Laser Raman spectroscopy analysis of individual inclusions further reveals the presence of gas-phases such as CO_(2),CH_(4),and N_(2).Isotopic analysis indicatesδ^(18)Oﬂuid values ranging from 3.95 to 6.7‰ and δDH_(2)O values ranging from-71.9 to-55.7‰.These results indi-cate that the ore-formingﬂuid of the Yueguang gold deposit belongs to metamorphic hydrothermalﬂuids of middle-low temperature and low *** the process of ore formation,gold is transported in the form of Au(HS)2-complexes,with gold deposition being driven byﬂuid ***,the Yueguang gold deposit is categorized as an orogenic gold deposit dominated by metamorphic hydrother-malﬂ*** may become a new target for gold exploration in the Baimashan region,central Hunan Province.

The existence of saturated vapors in the deep source region of 2017Pohang earthquake evidenced from seismic tomography

Geothermal resources are a promising approach to clean renewable energy; 90% of them are deep reservoirs of hot dry rock that require hydraulic fracturing to create a network of connections among wells to enable efficient heat exchange, known as an Enhanced Geothermal System（EGS）. The Pohang EGS project in south Korea led to a devasting Mw5.5 earthquake, triggered by the reservoir's EGS stimulation, the largest earthquake known to have been induced by EGS development. Detailed investigations have been conducted to understand the cause of the Pohang earthquake; the conclusion has been that overpressurized injected fluids migrated into an unknown fault triggering this large earthquake. Detailed velocity images for the source zone of the 2017 Pohang earthquake,which could be helpful for further understanding its inducing mechanism, are unavailable. However, we have assembled detailed aftershock data recorded by 41 local stations installed within about three months after the Mw5.5 Pohang earthquake, and have then applied the Vp/Vsmodel's consistency-constrained double-difference seismic tomography method to determine the high-resolution three-dimensional Vp（compressional wave velocity）, Vs（shear wave velocity）, and Vp/Vsmodels of the source region that we report here,as well as earthquake locations within the source region. The velocity images reveal that the deep source area of the 2017 Pohang earthquake is dominated by low Vp, high Vs, and low Vp/Vsanomalies, a pattern that can be caused by overpressurized vapors due to high temperatures at these depths. Based on aftershock locations and velocity features, our studies support the conclusion that the 2017Pohang earthquake was triggered by injected EGS fluids that migrated into a blind fault.

Extensive Resetting of Feldspar Pb Isotopic Composition in Archean–Paleoproterozoic Granitic Rocks from the Kongling Terrane,South China:Implications for Tracing Thermal Evolutionary History

Deep learning CNN-APSO-LSSVM hybrid fusion model for feature optimization and gas-bearing prediction

Conventional machine learning(CML) methods have been successfully applied for gas reservoir prediction. Their prediction accuracy largely depends on the quality of the sample data; therefore, feature optimization of the input samples is particularly important. Commonly used feature optimization methods increase the interpretability of gas reservoirs; however, their steps are cumbersome, and the selected features cannot sufficiently guide CML models to mine the intrinsic features of sample data efficiently. In contrast to CML methods, deep learning(DL) methods can directly extract the important features of targets from raw data. Therefore, this study proposes a feature optimization and gas-bearing prediction method based on a hybrid fusion model that combines a convolutional neural network(CNN)and an adaptive particle swarm optimization-least squares support vector machine(APSO-LSSVM). This model adopts an end-to-end algorithm structure to directly extract features from sensitive multicomponent seismic attributes, considerably simplifying the feature optimization. A CNN was used for feature optimization to highlight sensitive gas reservoir information. APSO-LSSVM was used to fully learn the relationship between the features extracted by the CNN to obtain the prediction results. The constructed hybrid fusion model improves gas-bearing prediction accuracy through two processes of feature optimization and intelligent prediction, giving full play to the advantages of DL and CML methods. The prediction results obtained are better than those of a single CNN model or APSO-LSSVM model. In the feature optimization process of multicomponent seismic attribute data, CNN has demonstrated better gas reservoir feature extraction capabilities than commonly used attribute optimization methods. In the prediction process, the APSO-LSSVM model can learn the gas reservoir characteristics better than the LSSVM model and has a higher prediction accuracy. The constructed CNN-APSO-LSSVM mode

Hydrochemical insights on the signatures and genesis of water resources in a high-altitude city on the Qinghai-Xizang Plateau, South-west China

Water resources have crucial implications for the steady development of the urban social *** study investigated the hydrochemical signatures and genesis of water resources in the urban area of Lhasa City(UALC).To this end,several analyses,such as ion ratio analysis and correlation analysis,were performed by comprehensively applying mathematical statistics and integrated hydrochemical *** results show relatively low concentrations of major ions in the groundwater and surface water(GSW)of the *** primary anions and cations are HCO3-and Ca2+,reflecting the HCOg-Ca water ***,groundwater exhibits higher concentrations of key chemical components compared to surface *** are weakly alkaline,with pH values of 7.78 and 7.61,respectively,and they have low salinity with average concentrations of total dissolved solids being 190.74 and 112.17 mg/L,*** inputs have minimal influence on the hydrochemical features of GSw,whereas rock weathering is the dominant controlling ***,cation *** a significant *** influencing their hydrochemical *** to the isotope analysis(H and 180),the primary source of recharge for GSW is atmospheric precipitation,with some input from melted ice and ***,GSW samples from the UALC show relatively similar 2H and 18O isotopic compositions,indicating the existence of a discernible hydraulic connection linking the two water *** research findings can serve as a valuable scientific reference and foundation for the sustainable development,effective utilization,and proper safeguarding of regional water resources in high-altitude areas.

Alleviated photoinhibition on nitrification in the Indian Sector of the Southern Ocean

Nitrification,a central process in the marine nitrogen cycle,produces regenerated nitrate in the euphotic zone and emits N_(2)O,a potent greenhouse gas as a *** regulatory mechanisms of nitrification in the Southern Ocean,which is a critical region for CO_(2)sequestration and radiative benefits,remain poorly ***,we investigated the in situ and dark nitrification rates in the upper 500 m and conducted substrate kinetics experiments across the Indian Sector in the Cosmonaut and Cooperation seas in the late austral *** findings indicate that light inhibition of nitrification decreases exponentially with depth,exhibiting a light threshold of 0.53%photosynthetically active radiation.A positive relationship between dark nitrification and apparent oxygen utilization suggests a dependence on substrate availability from primary ***,an increased NH_(4)^(+) supply can act as a buffer against photo-inhibitory ***,substrate affinity(α)increases with depth and transitions from light to dark,decreases with increasing ambient NH_(4)^(+)and exhibits a latitudinal distribution,reflecting substrate utilization *** also reveal that upwelling in Circumpolar Deep Water(CDW)stimulates nitrification through the introduction of potentially higher iron and deep diverse nitrifying microorganisms with higherα.We conclude that although light is the primary limiting factor for nitrification in summer,coupling between substrate availability and CDW upwelling can overcome this limitation,thereby alleviating photoinhibition by up to 45%±5.3%.

The Mongol-Okhotsk Ocean,which has been closing gradually from the west to the east beginning since the Late Paleozoic,was an important part of the Central Asian Orogenic *** influenced the tectonic framework of Northeast Asia in the Mesozoic,especially the Late Mesozoic arc-basin system that is widely distributed in the Great Xing’an ***,the manner in which the Mongol-Okhotsk Ocean affected the sedimentary basin development remains poorly *** address this issue,we conducted U-Pb dating of detrital zircon deposited sedimentary basins of the central Great Xing’an *** examining the possible provenances of the detrital zircon and the structural controls of the basins,we found that a key sedimentary unit was deposited around Late Jurassic-Early *** provenance was a felsic source in a back-arc setting of an active continental *** findings also suggest the existence of a unified geodynamic setting that affected the coeval development of basins in the northern Great Xing’an Range and the Yanshan fold-thrust belt along the northern margin of North China *** research helps to better understand the complex tectonic processes which shaped the Northeast Asia during the Late Mesozoic.

Hydrochemical Characterization,Controlling Factors and Water Quality of Surface Water in Shandong Province,North China

In this study,90 surface water samples were collected from Shandong Province(SDP)in the dry and wet seasons and analyzed using statistical analysis,hydrochemical methods and water quality index(WQI).The content of main ions showed seasonal variations,with a higher average value in the dry season than in the wet *** points exhibiting high contents of the main chemical components were mainly distributed in areas southwest of SDP,north of Weifang,and around *** saturation index of carbonate minerals was greater than zero,while that of evaporite minerals was less than *** hydrochemical characteristics of surface water are mainly dominated by rock weathering as well as cation *** addition,surface water in SDP has significantly been affected by anthropogenic *** of the surface water could be classified as weakly alkaline soft-fresh water,with the hydrochemical types of SO_(4)·Cl-Ca·Mg and SO_(4)·*** terms of WQI,47.88% and 37.88% of the water samples in SDP were classified as poor water in the dry and wet seasons,*** the whole,the water quality is higher in the wet season than in the dry season,and surface water in SDP is generally suitable for agricultural irrigation.

Genesis of the Jianbeigou Gold Deposit on the Southern Margin of the North China Craton: Insights from Fluid Inclusions, H-O-S Isotopes, and Pyrite in situ Trace Element Analyses

The Jianbeigou gold deposit is a typical lode gold deposit in the Qinling metallogenic belt, located on the southern margin of the North China Craton. Three stages of the hydrothermal process can be distinguished, including the quartz ± pyrite, quartz-polymetallic sulfide, and quartz-carbonate ± pyrite stages. From the early to late stages, the homogenization temperatures of primary fluid inclusions are 281–362°C, 227–331°C, and 149–261°C, respectively. The corresponding salinities estimated for these fluids are 3.9–9.9 wt%, 0.4–9.4 wt%, and 0.7–7.2 wt% Na Cl equiv. Combined with laser Raman spectroscopy data, the ore-forming fluid belongs to a H_(2)O-CO_(2)-Na Cl ± CH_4 system with medium–low temperature and salinity. The δ~(18)Ofluid and δD values for the quartz veins are-1.0‰ to 6.0‰ and-105‰ to-84‰, respectively, which indicates that the ore-forming fluid is of mixed source, mainly derived from magma, with a contribution from meteoric water. Pyrite has been identified into three generations based on mineral paragenetic sequencing, including Py1, Py2, and Py3. The pyrites have δ~(34)S sulfur isotopic compositions from three stages between 3.7‰ and 8.4‰, indicating that sulfur mainly originated from magma. Te, Bi, Sb, and Cu contents in pyrite were all high and showed a strong correlation with Au concentrations. Native gold and the Au-Ag-Bi telluride minerals were formed concurrently, and the As concentration was low and decoupled from the Au content. Therefore, Te, Bi, Sb and other low-melting point chalcophile elements play an important role for gold mineralization in arsenic-deficient ore-forming fluid. Combined with the geological setting, evolution of pyrite, and ore-fluids geochemistry, we propose that the Jianbeigou deposit can be classified as a magmatic–hydrothermal lode gold deposit. Gold mineralization on the southern margin of the North China Craton is related to Early Cretaceous magmatism and formed in an extensional setting.
