Joint Probability Analysis and Prediction of Sea Ice Conditions in Liaodong Bay

Sea ice conditions in Liaodong Bay of China are often described by sea ice grades,which classify annual sea ice conditions based on the annual maximum sea ice thickness(AM-SIT)and annual maximum floating ice extent(AM-FIE).The joint probability distribution of AM-SIT and AM-FIE was established on the basis of their data pairs from 1949/1950 to 2019/2020 in Liaodong *** joint intensity index of the sea ice condition in the current year is calculated,and the joint classification criteria of the sea ice grades in past years are established on the basis of the joint intensity index series.A comparison of the joint criteria with the 1973 and 2022 criteria revealed that the joint criteria of the sea ice grade match well,and the joint intensity index can be used to quantify the sea ice condition over the years.A time series analysis of the sea ice grades and the joint intensity index sequences based on the joint criteria are then *** show a decreasing trend of the sea ice condition from 1949/1950 to 2019/2020,a mutation in 1990/1991,and a period of approximately 91 years of the sea ice *** addition,the Gray-Markov model(GMM)is applied to predict the joint sea ice grade and the joint intensity index of the sea ice condition series in future years,and the error between the results and the actual sea ice condition in 2020/2021 is small.

Given the high demand for low-cost housing by the low-income earners,coupled with the tropical climate expe-rienced in sub-Saharan Africa,new-built housing stock needs utmost attention to cost,durability,and *** the walls accounting for a substantial proportion of the total building cost,choice of a wall system for use in building construction is *** choice usually depends on how durable,comfortable,ecological,and economical a given system is,to meet both the quality standards and low-cost aspects of *** the earthbag building system allows for the construction of strong,affordable,and sustainable housing,it is not widely *** such,its sustainable characteristics have gone unrecognised throughout the building *** paper examines and compares the thermal properties and total Life Cycle Costs(LCC)of earthbag walls with the commonly used burnt brick walls-based on the Degree-Days method and Life Cycle Costing analyses of building walls located in one of the hottest regions in ***-situ measurements of temperature and heat flux were conducted in accordance with ISO 9869 and the annual energy requirements *** total LCC were calculated based on the initial construction costs and annual energy costs attributed to the building wall *** housing was found to be thermal-physically better than the brick wall with a lower U-value resulting in lower annual energy requirements and a huge saving in annual energy costs of up to 83.2%.This saving,coupled with low initial construction costs made the earthbag unit 68.7%cheaper than the burnt brick unit over a 30-year ***,this study findings suggest earthbag walling system as an economically viable and technically feasible low-cost construction option for rural areas and low-incomers earners’housing in warm climatic conditions,a characteristic of sub-Saharan countries-so as to promote regional development.

Mean water level setup/setdown in the inlet-lagoon system induced by tidal action—a case study of Xincun Inlet,Hainan Island in China

With the tides propagating from the open sea to the lagoon, the mean water level （MWL） in the inlet and lagoon becomes different from that at the open sea, and a setup/setdown is generated. The change of MWL （setup/setdown） in the system imposes a great impact on regulating the development of tidal marshes, on determining the long-term water level for harbor maintenance, on the planning for the water front development with the flood control for the possible inundation, and on the interpretation of the historical sea level change when using tidal marsh peat deposits in the lagoon as the indicator for open sea＇ s sea level. In this case study on the mechanisms which control the setup/setdown in Xincun Inlet, Hainan in China, the 2-D barotropic mode of Eulerian - Lagrangian CIRCulation （ELCIRC） model was utilized. After model calibration and verification, a series of numerical experiments were conducted to examine the effects of bottom friction and advection terms, wetting and drying of intertidal areas, bathymetry and boundary conditions on the setup/setdown in the system. The modeling results show that setup occurs over the inlet and lagoon areas with an order of one tenth of the tide range at the entrance. The larger the bottom friction is, a larger setup is generated. Without the advection term, the setup is reduced clue to a decrease of water level gradient to compensate for the disappearance of the advection term. Even without overtides, a setup can still be developed in the system. Sea level rise and dredging in the inlet and tidal channel can cause a decrease of setup in the system, whereas shoaling of the system can increase the setup. The uniqueness of the Xincun Inlet with respect to MWL change is that there is no evident setdown in the inlet, which can be attributed to the complex geometry and bathymetry associated with the inlet system.

This paper analyzes the function of a master plan and the growing emphasis on its public policy attribute, and argues that in terms of the current plan formulation, major disadvantages of current master planning lie in the physical spatial epistemology, the blueprint-oriented work method, and over-technical expression of the planning deliveries. Based on the reform and innovation in formulating the City Master Plan of Dongguan(2016 – 2030), the paper explores experiences of Dongguan on spatial structure, planning management and control approaches, and delivery format.

As China’s economy has entered the development stage of a 'new normal,' the traditional path relying on investment scale expansion for economic growth can no longer sustain. Thus the key of the supply-side structural reform lies in breaking through the long-term path dependence and facilitating the transformation and innovation of socio-economic and urban development. This paper takes Shenzhen as the benchmark of the comparative study, and Guangzhou and Tianjin as the comparative object to analyze the contributions of the demand-side 'troika' – investment, consumption, and export, to economic growth from 1986 to 2015. Then, it introduces multiple growth elements on the supply-side to analyze the significant contribution elements in urban economic growth and their contribution degrees. Meanwhile, in combination with the economic development background and the policy guidance since the reform and opening up, the paper analyzes the characteristics of the development paths and their trends of the three cities. In the end, based on the comparative study, it carries out a discussion on the development path for mega-cities and their urban planning strategies at the new era from three perspectives.

Exploration of the gentle slopes of low mountains and hills has already become a new topic in the development of urban land resources in hilly areas. For the high ecological sensitivity, tremendous cost of urban construction, as well as complicate utilization technology, planning and design of gentle slopes of low mountains and hills are faced with serious challenges. This paper took the planning of Yidu High-tech Industrial Park for example, to explore the design concepts and rational methods of planning "ecological embedded" industrial parks in hilly areas.

Accurate and rapid predictions of residential building performance are crucial for both new building designs and existing building *** study develops an integrated prediction model using a stacking ensemble learning algorithm to predict daylighting,thermal comfort,and energy consumption in residential *** model incorporates multimodal residential building information as inputs,including image-based floorplans and vector-based building parameters.A comparative analysis is presented to evaluate the prediction performance of the proposed stacking ensemble learning algorithm against three base models:Resnet-50,Inception-V4,and Vision Transformer(ViT-32).The results indicated that the stacking ensemble learning algorithm outperforms the base models,reducing the mean absolute percentage error(MAPE)by 0.17%–1.94%and the coefficient of variation root mean square error(CV-RMSE)by 0.37%–2.06%for daylighting metrics;the MAPE by 0.63%–4.46%and the CV-RMSE by 0.62%–5.13%for thermal comfort metrics;the MAPE by 1.42%–6.43%and the CV-RMSE by 0.27%–5.09%for energy consumption metrics of the testing *** prediction error analyses also indicate that the stacking ensemble learning algorithm consistently yields smaller prediction errors across all performance metrics compared to the three base *** addition,this study compares the stacking ensemble learning algorithm to traditional machine learning models in terms of prediction accuracy,robustness,and generalization ability,highlighting the advantages of the stacking ensemble learning algorithm with image-based *** proposed stacking ensemble learning algorithm demonstrates superior accuracy,stability,and generalizability,offering valuable and practical design support for building design and renovation processes.

Through interpreting significance of low-carbon landscape, and analyzing common problems in landscape design industry, paths of low-carbon landscape design were explored from the following perspectives: establishing low-carbon index system for the landscape construction of eco-city; constructing scientific and reasonable spatial layout; using landscapes to interpret low-carbon concepts; enhancing the carbon sink function of urban green spaces; choosing reasonable landscape materials; reducing landscape maintenance cost. The study aims at applying low-carbon concepts in all design projects to achieve sustainable development of urban landscapes.
