Machine-to-machine (M2M) communication plays a fundamental role in autonomous IoT (Internet of Things)-based infrastructure, a vital part of the fourth industrial revolution. Machine-type communication devices(MTCDs) regularly share extensive data without human intervention while making all types of decisions. Thesedecisions may involve controlling sensitive ventilation systems maintaining uniform temperature, live heartbeatmonitoring, and several different alert systems. Many of these devices simultaneously share data to form anautomated system. The data shared between machine-type communication devices (MTCDs) is prone to risk dueto limited computational power, internal memory, and energy capacity. Therefore, securing the data and devicesbecomes challenging due to factors such as dynamic operational environments, remoteness, harsh conditions,and areas where human physical access is difficult. One of the crucial parts of securing MTCDs and data isauthentication, where each devicemust be verified before data transmission. SeveralM2Mauthentication schemeshave been proposed in the literature, however, the literature lacks a comprehensive overview of current M2Mauthentication techniques and the challenges associated with them. To utilize a suitable authentication schemefor specific scenarios, it is important to understand the challenges associated with it. Therefore, this article fillsthis gap by reviewing the state-of-the-art research on authentication schemes in MTCDs specifically concerningapplication categories, security provisions, and performance efficiency.

Mobile Edge computing(MEC)is a technology designed for the on-demand provisioning of computing and storage services,strategically positioned close to users.In the MEC environment,frequently accessed content can be deployed and cached on edge servers to optimize the efficiency of content delivery,ultimately enhancing the quality of the user experience.However,due to the typical placement of edge devices and nodes at the network’s periphery,these components may face various potential fault tolerance challenges,including network instability,device failures,and resource constraints.Considering the dynamic nature ofMEC,making high-quality content caching decisions for real-time mobile applications,especially those sensitive to latency,by effectively utilizing mobility information,continues to be a significant challenge.In response to this challenge,this paper introduces FT-MAACC,a mobility-aware caching solution grounded in multi-agent deep reinforcement learning and equipped with fault tolerance mechanisms.This approach comprehensively integrates content adaptivity algorithms to evaluate the priority of highly user-adaptive cached content.Furthermore,it relies on collaborative caching strategies based onmulti-agent deep reinforcement learningmodels and establishes a fault-tolerancemodel to ensure the system’s reliability,availability,and persistence.Empirical results unequivocally demonstrate that FTMAACC outperforms its peer methods in cache hit rates and transmission latency.

Solving traffic data occlusion problems in computer vision algorithms using DeepSORT and quantum computing

Inaccuracies of traffic sensors during traffic counting and vehicle classification have persisted as transportation agencies have been prompted to calibrate sensors periodically.Detection of multiple objects,heavy occlusions,and similar appearances in congested places are some causes of computer vision model inaccuracies.This paper used the YOLOv5 model for detection and the DeepSORT model for tracking objects.Due to the nature of the reported problem caused by many misses and mismatches,the power of quantum computing with the alternating direction method of multipliers(ADMM)optimizer was leveraged.A basic Kalman filter and the Hungarian algorithm features were used in combination with a quantum optimizer to present robust multiple object tracking(MOT)algorithms.This hybrid combination of the classical and quantum model has fastened learning the occludes during frame matching of tracks and detections by generating minimum quantum cost function value.Comparisons with the existing models indicated a significant increase in the primary MOT metric multiple object tracking accuracy(MOTA)by 16%more than the regular YOLOv5-DeepSORT model when using a quantum optimizer.Also,a 6%multiple object tracking precision(MOTP)increases and a 6%identification metrics(F_(1))score increase were observed using the quantum optimizer with identity switching reduced from 6 to 4.This model is expected to assist transportation officials in improving the accuracy of traffic counts and vehicle classification and reduce the need for regular computer vision software calibration.

Mobile Edge computing(MEC)is a promising technology that provides on-demand computing and efficient storage services as close to end users as possible.In an MEC environment,servers are deployed closer to mobile terminals to exploit storage infrastructure,improve content delivery efficiency,and enhance user experience.However,due to the limited capacity of edge servers,it remains a significant challenge to meet the changing,time-varying,and customized needs for highly diversified content of users.Recently,techniques for caching content at the edge are becoming popular for addressing the above challenges.It is capable of filling the communication gap between the users and content providers while relieving pressure on remote cloud servers.However,existing static caching strategies are still inefficient in handling the dynamics of the time-varying popularity of content and meeting users’demands for highly diversified entity data.To address this challenge,we introduce a novel method for content caching over MEC,i.e.,PRIME.It synthesizes a content popularity prediction model,which takes users’stay time and their request traces as inputs,and a deep reinforcement learning model for yielding dynamic caching schedules.Experimental results demonstrate that PRIME,when tested upon the MovieLens 1M dataset for user request patterns and the Shanghai Telecom dataset for user mobility,outperforms its peers in terms of cache hit rates,transmission latency,and system cost.

By pushing computation,cache,and network control to the edge,mobile edge computing(MEC)is expected to play a leading role in fifth generation(5G)and future sixth generation(6G).Nevertheless,facing ubiquitous fast-growing computational demands,it is impossible for a single MEC paradigm to effectively support high-quality intelligent services at end user equipments(UEs).To address this issue,we propose an air-ground collaborative MEC(AGCMEC)architecture in this article.The proposed AGCMEC integrates all potentially available MEC servers within air and ground in the envisioned 6G,by a variety of collaborative ways to provide computation services at their best for UEs.Firstly,we introduce the AGC-MEC architecture and elaborate three typical use cases.Then,we discuss four main challenges in the AGC-MEC as well as their potential solutions.Next,we conduct a case study of collaborative service placement for AGC-MEC to validate the effectiveness of the proposed collaborative service placement strategy.Finally,we highlight several potential research directions of the AGC-MEC.

An ensemble deep learning model for cyber threat hunting in industrial internet of things

By the emergence of the fourth industrial revolution,interconnected devices and sensors generate large-scale,dynamic,and inharmonious data in Industrial Internet of Things(IIoT)platforms.Such vast heterogeneous data increase the challenges of security risks and data analysis procedures.As IIoT grows,cyber-attacks become more diverse and complex,making existing anomaly detection models less effective to operate.In this paper,an ensemble deep learning model that uses the benefits of the Long Short-Term Memory(LSTM)and the AutoEncoder(AE)architecture to identify out-of-norm activities for cyber threat hunting in IIoT is proposed.In this model,the LSTM is applied to create a model on normal time series of data(past and present data)to learn normal data patterns and the important features of data are identified by AE to reduce data dimension.In addition,the imbalanced nature of IIoT datasets has not been considered in most of the previous literature,affecting low accuracy and performance.To solve this problem,the proposed model extracts new balanced data from the imbalanced datasets,and these new balanced data are fed into the deep LSTM AE anomaly detection model.In this paper,the proposed model is evaluated on two real IIoT datasets-Gas Pipeline(GP)and Secure Water Treatment(SWaT)that are imbalanced and consist of long-term and short-term dependency on data.The results are compared with conventional machine learning classifiers,Random Forest(RF),Multi-Layer Perceptron(MLP),Decision Tree(DT),and Super Vector Machines(SVM),in which higher performance in terms of accuracy is obtained,99.3%and 99.7%based on GP and SWaT datasets,respectively.Moreover,the proposed ensemble model is compared with advanced related models,including Stacked Auto-Encoders(SAE),Naive Bayes(NB),Projective Adaptive Resonance Theory(PART),Convolutional Auto-Encoder(C-AE),and Package Signatures(PS)based LSTM(PS-LSTM)model.

Industrial Internet of Things(IIoT)systems depend on a growing number of edge devices such as sensors,controllers,and robots for data collection,transmission,storage,and processing.Any kind of malicious or abnormal function by each of these devices can jeopardize the security of the entire IIoT.Moreover,they can allow malicious software installed on end nodes to penetrate the network.This paper presents a parallel ensemble model for threat hunting based on anomalies in the behavior of IIoT edge devices.The proposed model is flexible enough to use several state-of-the-art classifiers as the basic learner and efficiently classifies multi-class anomalies using the Multi-class AdaBoost and majority voting.Experimental evaluations using a dataset consisting of multi-source normal records and multi-class anomalies demonstrate that our model outperforms existing approaches in terms of accuracy,F1 score,recall,and precision.

Developing successful software with no defects is one of the main goals of software projects.In order to provide a software project with the anticipated software quality,the prediction of software defects plays a vital role.Machine learning,and particularly deep learning,have been advocated for predicting software defects,however both suffer from inadequate accuracy,overfitting,and complicated structure.In this paper,we aim to address such issues in predicting software defects.We propose a novel structure of 1-Dimensional Convolutional Neural Network(1D-CNN),a deep learning architecture to extract useful knowledge,identifying and modelling the knowledge in the data sequence,reduce overfitting,and finally,predict whether the units of code are defects prone.We design large-scale empirical studies to reveal the proposed model’s effectiveness by comparing four established traditional machine learning baseline models and four state-of-the-art baselines in software defect prediction based on the NASA datasets.The experimental results demonstrate that in terms of f-measure,an optimal and modest 1DCNN with a dropout layer outperforms baseline and state-of-the-art models by 66.79%and 23.88%,respectively,in ways that minimize overfitting and improving prediction performance for software defects.According to the results,1D-CNN seems to be successful in predicting software defects and may be applied and adopted for a practical problem in software engineering.This,in turn,could lead to saving software development resources and producing more reliable software.

Searchable Encryption(SE)enables data owners to search remotely stored ciphertexts selectively.A practical model that is closest to real life should be able to handle search queries with multiple keywords and multiple data owners/users,and even return the top-k most relevant search results when requested.We refer to a model that satisfies all of the conditions a 3-multi ranked search model.However,SE schemes that have been proposed to date use fully trusted trapdoor generation centers,and several methods assume a secure connection between the data users and a trapdoor generation center.That is,they assume the trapdoor generation center is the only entity that can learn the information regarding queried keywords,but it will never attempt to use it in any other manner than that requested,which is impractical in real life.In this study,to enhance the security,we propose a new 3-multi ranked SE scheme that satisfies all conditions without these security assumptions.The proposed scheme uses randomized keywords to protect the interested keywords of users from both outside adversaries and the honest-but-curious trapdoor generation center,thereby preventing attackers from determining whether two different queries include the same keyword.Moreover,we develop a method for managing multiple encrypted keywords from every data owner,each encrypted with a different key.Our evaluation demonstrates that,despite the trade-off overhead that results from the weaker security assumption,the proposed scheme achieves reasonable performance compared to extant schemes,which implies that our scheme is practical and closest to real life.

Spreading Social Influence with both Positive and Negative Opinions in Online Networks

Social networks are important media for spreading information, ideas, and influence among individuals.Most existing research focuses on understanding the characteristics of social networks, investigating how information is spread through the "word-of-mouth" effect of social networks, or exploring social influences among individuals and groups. However, most studies ignore negative influences among individuals and groups. Motivated by the goal of alleviating social problems, such as drinking, smoking, and gambling, and influence-spreading problems, such as promoting new products, we consider positive and negative influences, and propose a new optimization problem called the Minimum-sized Positive Influential Node Set(MPINS) selection problem to identify the minimum set of influential nodes such that every node in the network can be positively influenced by these selected nodes with no less than a threshold of ?. Our contributions are threefold. First, we prove that, under the independent cascade model considering positive and negative influences, MPINS is APX-hard. Subsequently, we present a greedy approximation algorithm to address the MPINS selection problem. Finally, to validate the proposed greedy algorithm, we conduct extensive simulations and experiments on random graphs and seven different realworld data sets that represent small-, medium-, and large-scale networks.
