Drift analysis of MH370 debris in the southern Indian Ocean

Malaysian Airlines Flight MH370 disappeared on 8 March 2014, while flying from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing. A flaperon from the flight was found on Reunion Island in July 2015. Two more confirmed pieces of debris were found in Mauritius and Tanzania, and 19 unconfirmed items were found off Mozambique, South Africa, and Madagascar. Drift buoys originating from the designated underwater search area arrived in Reunion Island, Mauritius, and Tanzania. Some of these buoys took a similarly long time as did real debris to reach these destinations, following a heading northeast and then west. For the present study, a maritime object drift prediction model was developed. ＂High resolution surface currents, Stokes drift, and winds＂ were processed, and a series of model experiments were constructed. The predicted trajectories of the modeled objects were similar to the observed trajectories of the drift buoys. Many modeled objects drifted northward then westward, ending up in Reunion Island, Mauritius, and Tanzania with probabilities of 5%0, 5%0, and 19%o, respectively. At the end of the simulation, most objects were located near 10~S in the western Indian Ocean. There were significant differences between experiments with different leeway factors, possibly because of the influence of southeast trade winds. The north part of the underwater search area is most likely to be the crash site, because the predicted trajectories of objects originating here are consistent with the many pieces of debris found along the east coast of Africa and the absence of such findings on the west coast of Australia.

The rapid population growth results in a crucial problem in the early detection of diseases inmedical *** all the cancers unveiled,breast cancer is considered the second most severe ***,an exponential rising in death cases incurred by breast cancer is expected due to the rapid population growth and the lack of resources required for performing medical *** recent advances in machine learning could help medical staff in diagnosing diseases as they offer effective,reliable,and rapid responses,which could help in decreasing the death *** this paper,we propose a new algorithm for feature selection based on a hybrid between powerful and recently emerged optimizers,namely,guided whale and dipper throated *** proposed algorithm is evaluated using four publicly available breast cancer *** evaluation results show the effectiveness of the proposed approach from the accuracy and speed *** prove the superiority of the proposed algorithm,a set of competing feature selection algorithms were incorporated into the conducted *** addition,a group of statistical analysis experiments was conducted to emphasize the superiority and stability of the proposed *** best-achieved breast cancer prediction average accuracy based on the proposed algorithm is 99.453%.This result is achieved in an average time of 3.6725 s,the best result among all the competing approaches utilized in the experiments.

For the integrable couplings of Ablowitz-Kaup-Newell-Segur(ICAKNS) equations, N-fold Darboux transformation(DT) TN, which is a 4 × 4 matrix, is constructed in this paper. Each element of this matrix is expressed by a ratio of the(4N + 1)-order determinant and 4N-order determinant of eigenfunctions. By making use of these formulae,the determinant expressions of N-transformed new solutions p^([N ]), q^([N ]), r^([N ])and s^([N ])are generated by this N-fold ***, when the reduced conditions q =-p*and s =-r*are chosen, we obtain determinant representations of N-fold DT and N-transformed solutions for the integrable couplings of nonlinear Schr?dinger(ICNLS) *** from the zero seed solutions, one-soliton solutions are explicitly given as an example.

AIM: To compare the overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS) with associated adverse events (AE) in patients with unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) treated with transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) + sorafenib vs TACE alone. METHODS: In this retrospective cohort study we collected data on all consecutive patients with a diagnosis of unresectable HCC between 2007 and 2011 who had been treated with TACE + sorafenib or TACE alone. We hypothesized that the combination therapy is superior to TACE alone in improving the survival in these patients. Data extracted included patient's demographics, etiology of liver disease, histology of HCC, stage of liver disease with respect to model of end stage liverdisease score and Child-Turcotte-Pugh (CTP) classification and Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer (BCLC) staging for HCC. Computed tomography scan findings, alpha fetoprotein levels, number of treatments and related AE were also recorded and analyzed. RESULTS: Of the 43 patients who met inclusion criteria, 13 were treated with TACE + sorafenib and 30 with TACE alone. There was no significant difference in median survival: 20.6 mo (95%CI: 13.4-38.4) for the TACE + sorafenib and 18.3 mo (95%CI: 11.8-32.9) for the TACE alone (P = 0.72). There were also no statistically significant differences between groups in OS (HR = 0.82, 95%CI: 0.38-1.77; P = 0.61), PFS (HR = 0.93, 95%CI: 0.45-1.89; P = 0.83), and treatment-related toxicities (P = 0.554). CTP classification and BCLC staging for HCC were statistically significant (P = 0.001, P = 0.04 respectively) in predicting the survival in patients with HCC. The common AE observed were abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting and mild elevation of liver enzymes. CONCLUSION: Combination therapy with TACE + sorafenib is safe and equally effective as TACE alone in patients with unresectable HCC. Fern spore germination gives rise to the rhizoid and protonemal cell through asymmetric cell division, and then develops into a gametophyte. Spore germination is also a representative single-cell model for the investigation of nuclear polar movement, asymmetrical cell division, polarity establishment and rhizoid tip-growth. These processes are affected by various environmental factors, such as light, gravity, phytohormones, metal ions, and temperature. Here, we present a catalog of spore germination in response to different environmental factors. They are as follows：（1） Representative modes of light affecting spore germination from different fern species include red light-stimulated and far red light-inhibited spore germination, far red light-uninhibited spore germination, blue light-inhibited spore germination, and spore germination in the dark. The optimal light intensity and illumination time for spore germination are different among various fern species. Light response upon spore germination is initiated from the cell mitosis that regulated by phytochromes （PHYs） and cryptochromes （CRYs）. AcPHY2, AcCRY3 and/or AcCRY4 are hypothesized to be involved in spore germination; （2） Gravity and calcium are crucial to early nuclear movement and polarity establishment of spores; （3） Gibberellin and antheridiogen can initiate and promote spore germination in many species, but abscisic acid, jasmonic acid, and ethylene pose only minor effects; （4） Spores can obtain the maximal germination rate in their favorable growth medium. Moreover, metal ions, pH, and spore density in the culture medium also affect spore germination; （5） Most fern spores germinate at 25℃, and an optimal CO2 concentration is necessary for spore germination of certain fern plants. These provide valuable information for understanding fern spore germination in response to environmental factors.

Background: Individualization of high dose regimen of methotrexate (MTX) in pediatric patients with acute lymphoblastic leukemia based on pharmacokinetic (PK) parameters can help in optimization of the dose and better control of the disease. Building up of a pharmacokinetic model can help dose optimization. Objectives: A NONMEM based population (POP) PK model has been subsequently developed to evaluate the effect of demographics as covariates to address variability in pharmacokinetics of MTX. Method: Forty one patients (24 males & 17 females) with ranges of age, body weight and height of 3 - 15 years, 13 - 54 kg and 100 - 177 cm respectively and diagnosed as acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) were involved in the study. MTX was administered as i.v. infusion at a dose of 2 gm/m2 over a period of two hour and its plasma concentrations were determined primarily at 24 hr post-dose to be utilized in the building-up of PK *** initial/prior estimates of volumes of central (V1) and peripheral compartments (V2) and clearance (CL) and inter-compartmental clearance (Q2) for MTX were extracted from literature. The inter-subject variability was estimated for V1 & CL. The influence of different covariates on model performance and parameter estimates was assessed by evaluating the difference in objective function value. The final POP PK model was validated by bootstrap re-sampling procedures (1000 runs) and the 95% confidence intervals for the estimates were calculated. Results: The POP estimates for CL, V1 and V2 were 2.18 L/h, 5.74 L and 11.2 L respectively. The inter-individual variability for the CL and V1 was 23% and 30% respectively. The covariates analysis showed effect of body surface area and sex on the CL and weight on V1. Conclusions: The POP-PK model developed adequately defines the population PK of MTX in pediatric patients with lymphoblastic leukemia. Background: Cardiac pain arising from acute coronary syndrome (ACS) is a multi-factorial phenomenon. Historically, episodes of cardiac pain have been captured using a one-dimensional numeric pain rating scale. Lacking in clinical practice are acute pain assessments that employ a comprehensive evaluation of an emergent ACS episode. Aim: To examine the sensory-discriminative, motivational-affective and cognitive-evaluative dimensions of ACS-related pain. Methods: A descriptive-correlational, repeated-measure design was used to collect data on 121 ACS patients of their cardiac pain intensity. The (numeric rating scale-NRS 0-10 scale) measured chest pain “Now” and “Worst pain in the previous 2 hours over 8 hours” and the McGill Pain Questionnaire Short-Form (MPQ-SF) measured pain at 4 hours. Results: Mean age was 67.6 ± 13, 50% were male, 60% had unstable angina and 40% had Non-ST-elevation myocardial infarction. Cardiac pain intensity scores remained in the mild range from 1.1 ± 2.2 to 2.4 ± 2.7. MPQ-SF: 66% described pain as distressing and 26% reported pain was horrible or excruciating. Participants described ACS pain quality as acute injury (nociceptive pain: heavy, cramping, stabbing), as nerve damage (neuropathic: gnawing, hot-burning, shooting) and as a mixture of acute and chronic pain qualities (aching, tender and throbbing). Conclusions: Patients reported both nociceptive and neuropathic cardiac pain. It is unclear if pain perceptions are due to: i) pathophysiology of clot formation, ii) occurrence of a first or repeated ACS episode, or iii) complex co-morbidities. Pain arising from ACS requires an understanding of the interplay of ischemic, metabolic and neuropathophysiological mechanisms that contribute to complex cardiac pain experiences.

This qualitative literature review aimed to describe the totality of peer-reviewed scientific evidence from 1990 to 2017 concerning validity of self-reported *** review included articles about mammography containing the words accuracy,validity,specificity,sensitivity,reliability or reproducibility;titles containing self-report,recall or patient reports,and breast or‘mammo’;and references of identified citations focusing on evaluation of 2-year *** 45 publications meeting the eligibility criteria,2 conducted in 1993 and 1995 at health maintenance organisations in Western USA which primarily served highly educated whites provided support for self-reports of mammography over 2 *** concerns about validity of self-reports included(1)telescoping,(2)biased overestimates particularly among black women,(3)failure to distinguish screening and diagnostic mammography,and(4)failure to address episodic versus consistent mammography *** current totality of evidence supports the need for research to reconsider the validity of self-reported mammography data as well as the feasibility of alternative surveillance data sources to achieve the goals of the Healthy People Initiative.
