Primary sclerosing cholangitis(PSC) is a chronic,cholestatic liver condition characterized by inflammation,fibrosis,and destruction of the intra-and extrahepatic bile *** therapeutic endoscopist plays a key role in the diagnosis and management of *** patients presenting with a cholestatic profile,endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography(ERCP) is warranted for a definite diagnosis of *** strictures of the bile duct occur in 36%-57% of PSC *** balloon dilatation with or without stenting have been employed in the management of dominant *** addition,PSC patients are at increased risk of developing cholangiocarcinoma with a 20% lifetime *** cytology obtained during ERCP and use of fluorescence in situ hybridization forms the initial diagnostic step in the investigation of patients with dominant biliary *** review aims to summarize the current evidence supporting the role of a therapeutic endoscopist in the management of PSC patients.

I recently read an editorial by Chris O’Connor in JACC heart failure on the topic of institutional memory[1].This stimulated me to think about the current state of institutional memory vs that which we perceived in days gone *** my case,I am referring to the institutional memory of Johns Hopkins School of Medicine(where I went to medical school)and comparing it to the institutional memory at the University of florida,college of Medicine,(where I have been for the past 43 years.)What follows are some of my memories of my time at Hopkins.

Background and aim:The transcriptional co-activator Yes-associated protein-1(YAP1)has been impli-cated as an oncogene and is overexpressed in different kinds of human cancers,especially hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC).However,the role of YAP1 has not been reported in residual/recurrent HCC after transarterial chemoembolization(TACE).Our aim is to determine whether YAP1 is overexpressed in the residual/recurrent HCC after ***:A total of 105 tumor tissues from 71 patients including 30 cases of primary HCC without prior treatment,35 cases of residual/recurrent HCC post TACE,and 6 cases of hepatoblastoma were included in the immunohistochemical ***1 immunoreactivity was blindly scored as 0,1+,2+or 3+in density and percentages of positive ***:About 33.3%(10/30)of primary HCC without prior treatment showed 2+of YAP1 *** 82.8%(29/35)of residual/recurrent HCCs after TACE treatment displayed 2-3+of YAP1 immunoreactivity,which was significantly higher compared to primary HCC without prior treatment(P=0.0002).YAP1 immunoreactivity was moderately to strongly positive(2-3+)in 100%of the hep-atoblastoma,particularly in the embryonal components(3+in 100%cases).Conclusions:YAP1 is significantly upregulated in the residual/recurrent HCCs post TACE treatment,suggesting that YAP1 may serve as a sensitive diagnostic marker and a treatment target for residual/recurrent HCC post TACE.

Tagetes erecta is an annual multifunctional plant which can be cultivated under a broad range of climatic conditions. Polyploidization and interspecific hybridization are applied to facilitate breeding cultivars of T. erecta with improved ornamental qualities. Colchicine treatment to the germinating seeds was proved to be a useful tool for chromosome doubling of the male sterile two-type line ‘M525AB', with the resulting frequency of polyploid seedlings ranging from 88.89%(following 0.05% w/v colchicine applied for a 3–6 h exposure period) to a maximum of100.00%(following 0.1% for 3–6 h, or 0.2% for 3 h). Morphological observation, stomatal size and density analysis, flow cytometric analysis and chromosome counting were conducted to identify the tetraploid plants. Distinctive morphological changes were observed in a notable proportion of polyploid plants. The colchicine-treated polyploid T. erecta plants showed dwarfed and more robust growth, thicker, larger and greener leaves, larger inflorescences and florets. The mutant plants identified through morphological observation all aligned as polyploid plants, thus morphological observation could be an effective method for the detection of polyploidy. The polyploid plants had significant larger stomata size over the abaxial leaf surface, whereas the density of stomata distribution was remarkably reduced. The survival rate of tetraploid cuttings(i.e. 38%)was greatly reduced compared to that of diploid plants. The fertility of tetraploid plants was also decreased, as shown by cross-pollination *** hybridizations between colchicine-induced tetraploid plants of a male sterile T. erecta line and the naturally tetraploid fully fertile Tagetes patula species resulted in hybrid progeny. Most of these hybrids displayed the dwarfed growth stature and compact, larger-flower morphology which is the typical ideotype of herbaceous flowers. Dissolved organic matter(DOM)in soils drives biogeochemical cycling and soil functions in different directions depending on its molecular ***,there is a distinct paucity of information concerning how the molecular signatures of soil DOM vary with different degrees of weathering across wide geographic ***,we resolved the DOM molecular signatures from 22 diverse Chinese reference soils and linked them with soil organic matter and weathering-related mineralogical *** mixed-effects models revealed that the yields of DOM were determined by soil organic carbon content,whereas the molecular signature of DOM was primarily constrained by the weathering-related *** soil weathering index showed a positive effect on the lability and a negative effect on the aromaticity of ***,DOM in highly weathered acidic soils featured more amino sugars,carbohydrates,and aliphatics,as well as less O-rich polyphenols and condensed aromatics,thereby conferring a higher DOM biolability and lower DOM *** study highlights the dominance of the weathering-related dimension in constraining the molecular signatures and potential functions of DOM in soils across a wide geographic scale.

The fibre-optic microwave photonic link has become one of the basic building blocks for microwave *** the optical power at the receiver is the best way to improve all link performance metrics including gain,noise figure and dynamic *** though lasers can produce and photodetectors can receive optical powers on the order of a Watt or more,the power-handling capability of optical fibres is orders-of-magnitude *** this paper,we propose and demonstrate the use of few-mode fibres to bridge this power-handling gap,exploiting their unique features of small acousto-optic effective area,large effective areas of optical modes,as well as orthogonality and walk-off among spatial *** specially designed few-mode fibres,we demonstrate order-of-magnitude improvements in link performances for single-channel and multiplexed *** work represents the first step in few-mode microwave *** spatial degrees of freedom can also offer other functionalities such as large,tunable delays based on modal dispersion and wavelength-independent lossless signal combining,which are indispensable in microwave photonics.

Development of Nursing Research in Qatar: 15-Year Status Report

Purpose: The aim was to provide an overview of nursing research in Qatar over the previous 15 years. Methods: Several online databases were searched for published articles between 2000 and 2015 related to nursing research in Qatar. Findings: The initial search identified 6540 articles, whose titles, abstracts, and texts were screened for satisfying the eligibility criteria. Only 57 articles met the eligibility criteria. The highest percentage of studies (42%) focused on clinical practice issues. Eighty-seven percent (87%) were published in peer-reviewed journals;84% (N = 48) were conducted between 2011 and 2015 with 16-fold growth rate compared to 2000-2005. The majority of authors were postgraduate qualified nurses, mainly 67% of them with hospital and academic affiliation (88%). The vast majority of identified studies were conducted in hospital settings (63%), and only 14% of the studies used a nursing theory or conceptual framework. Sixty-three percent (63%) of the studies were quantitative, and 25% were funded mostly by hospitals. The majority of the included studies have been done in collaboration with other disciplines (60%), especially with physicians (65%). Conclusion: Nursing research in Qatar has dramatically developed and improved over the last 15 years. However, nurses need to be more motivated to conduct and publish research in collaboration with national, regional, and international research bodies. Implications for Nursing & Health Policy: Building and sustaining nursing research infrastructure considered as a top priority for nursing leaders, academic, and ministry of public health in Qatar. Furthermore, preparing nurses with higher academic degrees is an essential step in advancing research utilization in Qatar and the region.

海洋环境中冷泉渗漏是甲烷等有机化合物和其他温室气体进入海洋和大气的重要来源。准确定量确定冷泉渗漏的甲烷气泡通量对于评估它们对全球甲烷预算和气候变化有着重要的研究意义。采用高分辨率视频成像系统原位观察了墨西哥湾GC600冷泉渗漏区Mega Plume 2喷口,并获得了油气泡连续释放的视频片段。通过采用半自动气泡计数算法估算了Mega Plume 2喷口释放的油气泡个数及其释放速率。而通过图像处理技术确定了Mega Plume 2释放的油气泡的大小和尺寸分布。Mega Plume 2混合喷口释放的油气泡平均直径2.56mm±1.01mm,油气泡释放速率为80.25个·秒^(-1)。Mega Plume 2喷口年释放通量为177.7m^(3)·a^(-1)(19.55~106.62t·a^(-1))。然而,Mega Plume 2喷口的气泡释放速率与潮汐无关,可能与其他因素如水合物,油气藏增压及沉积层差异加载有关。只有对冷泉渗漏系统开展长期的原位在线观察,我们才能准确获取冷泉渗漏系统活动特征及其释放通量。
