In this paper,the authors are concerned with global asymptotic synchronization for a class of BAM neural networks with time delays.Instead of using Lyapunov functional method,LMI method and matrix measure method which are recently widely applied to investigating global exponential/asymptotic synchronization for neural networks,two novel sufficient conditions on global asymptotic synchronization of above BAM neural networks are established by using a kind of new study method of global synchronization:Integrating inequality techniques.The method and results extend the study of global synchronization of neural networks.

Dear Editor,The resistance of Plasmodium falciparum to artemisinin derivatives(arts)in Asian,African and South American countries is a pressing global concern.Heme is an important biomarker of malaria parasites and is closely related to the mode of action of arts,but no heme-activatable fluorescent probe has been developed to study the biology of heme in malaria parasites in a light-up manner.Here,we rationally developed probes from the unique reaction between heme and Yingzhaosu A(YZSA),then we unprecedentedly applied the probe to identify ring-stage inhibitors of P.falciparum.

Research on micro-machines is becoming popular.In this paper,the electric driving behavior of liquid metal columns in confining channel was studied.When the electric field was applied,the liquid metal near the negative electrode became flat,longer.The NaOH electrolyte(1.0 mol/L)could flow from the positive electrode to the negative electrode from a small space above the liquid metal column.Besides,the length and volume of the liquid metal would affect its motion and deformation behavior.Both cylindrical liquid column(R=5 mm,L=5 cm)and linear liquid column(R=5 mm,L=40 cm)exhibit deformable movements,which are similar to the bionic movements of earthworms.The electrically driven liquid metal in closed systems could provide a theoretical basis for droplet actuation in microtubes.It has a very wide application prospect in the field of micro-drive machines.

Objective To examine the association between habitual sleep duration and obesity among Chinese adults. Methods The association of sleep duration and obesity was investigated among 7,094 community-dwelling Chinese adults. Sleep duration was self-reported. In this study, obesity was defined as follows： body mass index （BMI） ≥ 28 kg/m^2, waist circumference （WC） ≥ 85 cm in men and ≥ 80 cm in women, and percent body fat （%BF） ≥ 25 in men and ≥ 35 in women. Logistic and quantile regressions were employed to examine relationships of interest. Results Overall, 6.42% of the participants reported short sleep durations （〈 6 h/d） while 14.71% reported long （≥ 9 h/d） sleep durations. Long sleepers （≥ 9 h/d） represented a greater frequency of women with obesity [odds ratio （OR）： 1.30; 95% confidence interval （CI）, 1.02-1.67] and high body fat （1.43, 1.04-1.96） than those who slept 7-8 h/d. An association between long sleep times and higher BMI estimations was found across the 10th-75th percentile of the BMI distribution. Among men, long sleepers （≥ 9 h/d） presented lower risks of developing abdominal obesity compared with individuals who slept 7-8 h/d （OR = 0.79, 95% CI： 0.44-0.99）. Conclusion Our study suggests that long sleep durations are associated with general obesity in Chinese women but reduced waist circumferences in men. Confirmatory studies are needed to determine the heterogeneous association of sleep time and obesity by gender.

One human autoimmune serum was identified to react with centrosomes by immunofluorescence. We applied the affinity purification of membrane-bound antibody technique and demonstrated that the antibodies present in this antiserum reacted with a 31/29 ku centrosomal antigen. Immunofluorescence showed that this antigen is located at cen-trosome in a cell-cycle independent manner, and thereby it belongs to the family of centrosomal residents. We then utilized this autoimmune serum and antibodies against centrin and gamma-tubulin to investigate changes of centrosome cycle kinetics during premature chromosome condensation (PCC) artificially induced in V79-8 cells. We show here that centrosomal proteins continue to express when cells are syn-chronized at G1/S boundary and S phase by Hydroxyurea (HU). During this tune, the addition of caffeine causes cells with unreplicated genome to go into mitosis, and induces the separation of the replicated centrosomes. The explicit expressions of energy eigenvalues and eigenfunctions of bound states for a three-dimensional diatomic molecule oscillator with a hyperbolic potential function are obtained approximately by means of the hypergeometric series method. Then for a one-dimensional system, the rigorous solutions of bound states are solved with a similar method. The eigenfunctions of a one-dimensional diatomic molecule oscillator, expressed in terms of the Jacobi polynomial, are employed as an orthonormal basis set, and the analytic expressions of matrix elements for position and momentum operators are given in a closed form.

Disorders of sex development(DSD)are a group of rare complex clinical syndromes with multiple etiologies.Distinguishing the various causes of DSD is quite difficult in clinical practice,even for senior general physicians because of the similar and atypical clinical manifestations of these conditions.In addition,DSD are difficult to diagnose because most primary doctors receive insufficient training for DSD.Delayed diagnoses and misdiagnoses are common for patients with DSD and lead to poor treatment and prognoses.On the basis of the principles and algorithms of dynamic uncertain causality graph(DUCG),a diagnosis model for DSD was jointly constructed by experts on DSD and engineers of artificial intelligence.“Chaining”inference algorithm and weighted logic operation mechanism were applied to guarantee the accuracy and efficiency of diagnostic reasoning under incomplete situations and uncertain information.Verification was performed using 153 selected clinical cases involving nine common DSD-related diseases and three causes other than DSD as the differential diagnosis.The model had an accuracy of 94.1%,which was significantly higher than that of interns and third-year residents.In conclusion,the DUCG model has broad application prospects as a computer-aided diagnostic tool for DSDrelated diseases.

The gut microbiota of intensive care unit(ICU)patients displays extreme dysbiosis associated with increased susceptibility to organ failure,sepsis,and septic shock.However,such dysbiosis is difficult to characterize owing to the high dimensional complexity of the gut microbiota.We tested whether the concept of enterotype can be applied to the gut microbiota of ICU patients to describe the dysbiosis.We collected 131 fecal samples from 64 ICU patients diagnosed with sepsis or septic shock and performed 16S rRNA gene sequencing to dissect their gut microbiota compositions.During the development of sepsis or septic shock and during various medical treatments,the ICU patients always exhibited two dysbiotic microbiota patterns,or ICU-enterotypes,which could not be explained by host properties such as age,sex,and body mass index,or external stressors such as infection site and antibiotic use.ICU-enterotype I(ICU E1)comprised predominantly Bacteroides and an unclassified genus of Enterobacteriaceae,while ICU-enterotype II(ICU E2)comprised predominantly Enterococcus.Among more critically ill patients with Acute Physiology and Chronic Health Evaluation II(APACHE II)scores>18,septic shock was more likely to occur with ICU E1(P=0.041).Additionally,ICU E1 was correlated with high serum lactate levels(P=0.007).Therefore,different patterns of dysbiosis were correlated with different clinical outcomes,suggesting that ICU-enterotypes should be diagnosed as independent clinical indices.Thus,the microbial-based human index classifier we propose is precise and effective for timely monitoring of ICU-enterotypes of individual patients.This work is a first step toward precision medicine for septic patients based on their gut microbiota profiles.

The treatments for early-onset scoliosis(EOS)remain great challenges for spine surgeons.This study aimed to comprehensively review the treatments for EOS,especially the advancements made in the last decade.Current studies on EOS were retrieved through a search on PubMed,UpToDate,the Web of science Core Collection and Scopus were reviewed.The most pertinent information related to the current treatments for EOS was collected.The foci of treatments for EOS have included creating a well-developed thoracic cavity,improving lung volume,and improving pulmonary function.Conservative treatments include bracing,casting,halo-gravity traction,and physiotherapy.Serial casting is the most effective conservative treatment for EOS.Surgical treatments mainly include growth-friendly techniques,which are generally classified into three types according to the amount of correction force applied:distraction-based,compression-based,and growth-guided.The distraction-based systems include traditional or conventional growing rods,magnetically controlled growing rods,and vertical expandable prosthesis titanium ribs.The compression-based systems include vertebral body stapling and tethering.The growth-guided systems include the Shilla system and modern Luque trolley.In addition,some newer techniques have emerged in recent years,such as posterior dynamic deformity correction(ApiFix).For EOS patients presenting with sharp deformities in a long,congenital spinal deformity,a hybrid technique,one-stage posterior osteotomy with short segmental fusion and dual growing rods,may be a good choice.Hemivertebra resection is the gold standard for congenital scoliosis caused by single hemivertebra.Although the patient’s growth potential is preserved in growth-friendly surgeries,a high complication rate should be expected,as well as a prolonged treatment duration and additional costs.Knowledge about EOS and its treatment options is rapidly expanding.Conservative treatments have specific limitations.For curves requiring a surgical intervention,surgical tec

As the most possibility applied to the next generation negative electrode materials of Ni/ MH second battery,rare earth(RE)-magnesium(Mg) based alloys have been developed over the last few years. Recent advances about the RE-Mg based intermetallic compounds on the crystal structures, hydrogenation behaviors and electrochemical performances are reviewed in the paper. On the other hand, new results about the preparation and modification methods of the alloys are also covered in details.
