Global Research Progress on Municipal Waste and Future Prospect Based on the Cross-national Comparisons

Due to the acceleration of urbanization,the municipal waste(MW)problem has transformed into a global challenge for urb-an sustainability.To elucidate historical trends,current focal points,and future directions in MW research,we conducted a bibliometric analysis and employed knowledge graph visualization to scrutinize a total of 34212 articles,which were published between 1991 and 2021 in the Web of science(WoS)core database.The results indicated that current major research themes encompass waste classifica-tion and recycling,waste management and public behavior,waste disposal methods and technologies,as well as environmental impact and evaluation.There has been a shift in the research focus from the environmental impacts of waste incineration to sustainable manage-ment related issues.A comparison of research from six typical countries revealed the differences in research priorities and techniques advantages.Scholars from the USA and Britain initiated MW research earlier than other countries and investigated management issues in depth,such as public behavior and willingness to pay.Meanwhile,Japanese,German,and Swedish scholars conducted extensive studies on advanced waste treatment technologies,such as disposal and recycling,risk assessment,and waste-to-energy techniques.Chinese scholars placed particular emphasis on end-of-pipe treatments and their associated environmental impacts.Hotspots and poten-tial future frontiers were identified by burst detection analysis.Keywords with high value of burst index(BI)worldwide are food waste and circular economy.Chinese scholars have put great efforts on waste environmental impact and its recycling technologies,while we’re expecting to further investigating vulnerable population.Furthermore,this study contributes to bridging the regional gap of scientific research among different countries and fostering international collaboration.

Advancements in the modification of magnesium-based hydrogen storage materials

Magnesium-based hydrogen storage materials represent a hydrogen storage technology with broad application prospects. As the global energy crisis and environmental pollution issues become increasingly severe, hydrogen,as a clean and efficient energy source, has garnered growing attention. Magnesium-based hydrogen storage,serving as a crucial means for storing and transporting hydrogen, is gaining prominence due to its abundant resources, low cost, low density, and high hydrogen storage density. However, challenges in terms of absorption/desorption rates, temperature, activation energy, and enthalpy during hydrogen application impede its development. To address these challenges, this paper systematically reviews current research on magnesium-based hydrogen storage materials, encompasses their types, characteristics, and hydrogen absorption mechanisms.Furthermore, it delves into the impacts of nanoscale dimensions, alloying, doping, and catalysis on the performance of magnesium-based materials. The aim is to provide valuable insights for research in related fields.

CONTROLLED RELEASE FROM PDMAEMA GELS PREPARED BY GAMMA RADIATION

Poly(N,N-dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate) (polyDMAEMA) hydrogels prepared by gamma-irradiation showed obvious temperature-sensitivity in a temperature range of 38-40degreesC and pH-sensitivity at pH=2.5. They also showed electric response behavior although it was not typical. The hydrogels were used in controlled release at different pH, temperature, and electric voltage. The release rates of methylene blue (MB) from the gels at 52degreesC and pH=1.24 were faster than those at 20degreesC and pH=10.56, respectively. In addition, the release rate at a field voltage of 5.0 was also faster than that without electric field.

Bimagnetic metal constructed core-shell structure of Fe@Co nanowires for multi-band microwave absorption

Controlled fabrication of materials by surface modification techniques has been a hot research topic. In this paper,one-dimensional(1D) core-shell structure Fe@Co nanowires(NWs) were successfully prepared by anchoring 0-dimensional(0D) Co nanoparticles on 1D Fe NWs based on the in situ reduction method. The electromagnetic parameters of the specimens at a filler mass fraction of 25 wt% were tested and the microwave loss mechanism was deeply analyzed. Binary magnetic metals in a core-shell structure have excellent multi-band microwave absorption capability(S-band, X-band and Ku-band). This is due to the heterogeneous interface and magnetic coupling effects tuning the dielectric and magnetic loss. This study offers a workable plan for creating effective multi-band magnetic metal-based microwave absorbers.

Optimal Asymmetric Quantum Codes from the Euclidean Sums of Linear Codes

In this paper,we first give the definition of the Euclidean sums of linear codes,and prove that the Euclidean sums of linear codes are Euclidean dual-containing.Then we construct two new classes of optimal asymmetric quantum error-correcting codes based on Euclidean sums of the Reed-Solomon codes,and two new classes of optimal asymmetric quantum error-correcting codes based on Euclidean sums of linear codes generated by Vandermonde matrices over finite fields.Moreover,these optimal asymmetric quantum errorcorrecting codes constructed in this paper are different from the ones in the literature.

Kármán vortex street in a spin–orbit-coupled Bose–Einstein condensate with PT symmetry

The dynamics of spin–orbit-coupled Bose–Einstein condensate with parity-time symmetry through a moving obstacle potential is simulated numerically. In the miscible two-component condensate, the formation of the Kármán vortex street is observed in one component, while ‘the half-quantum vortex street' is observed in the other component. Other patterns of vortex shedding, such as oblique vortex dipoles, V-shaped vortex pairs, irregular turbulence, and combined modes of various wakes, can also be found. The ratio of inter-vortex spacing in one row to the distance between vortex rows is approximately0.18, which is less than the stability condition 0.28 of classical fluid. The drag force acting on the obstacle potential is simulated. The parametric regions of Kármán vortex street and other vortex patterns are calculated. The range of Kármán vortex street is surrounded by the region of combined modes. In addition, spin–orbit coupling disrupts the symmetry of the system and the gain-loss affects the local particle distribution of the system, which leads to the local symmetry breaking of the system, and finally influences the stability of the Kármán vortex street. Finally, we propose an experimental protocol to realize the Kármán vortex street in a system.

Precisely Control Relationship between Sulfur Vacancy and H Absorption for Boosting Hydrogen Evolution Reaction

Ef fective and robust catalyst is the core of water splitting to produce hydrogen.Here, we report an anionic etching method to tailor the sulfur vacancy(VS) of NiS_(2) to further enhance the electrocatalytic performance for hydrogen evolution reaction(HER). With the VS concentration change from 2.4% to 8.5%, the H* adsorption strength on S sites changed and NiS_(2)-VS 5.9% shows the most optimized H* adsorption for HER with an ultralow onset potential(68 m V) and has long-term stability for 100 h in 1 M KOH media. In situ attenuated-total-reflection Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(ATR-FTIRS) measurements are usually used to monitor the adsorption of intermediates. The S-H* peak of the Ni S_(2)-VS 5.9% appears at a very low voltage, which is favorable for the HER in alkaline media. Density functional theory calculations also demonstrate the Ni S_(2)-VS 5.9% has the optimal |ΔG^(H*)| of 0.17 e V. This work offers a simple and promising pathway to enhance catalytic activity via precise vacancies strategy.

Influence of cerium ions on structure-dependent magnetic properties of Ba-Sr M-type hexaferrite nanocrystals

The present study is a systematic effort to investigate the structure-sensitive magnetic parameters of Ce^(3+) substituted Ba-Sr hexaferrite nanocrystals chemically formulated as Ba_(0.5)Sr_(0.5)Ce_(x)Fe_(12-x)O_(19) where x=0.0-0.2 with Δx=0.05.The hexaferrite powders were prepared using the sol-gel self-ignition route and structurally characterized by means of powder X-ray diffraction and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy.The creation of the M-type hexaferrite phase within the synthesized samples was revealed from the Rietveld refinement of the X-ray diffractograms.The occurrence of a secondary phase of CeO_(2) was revealed within the hexaferrites for the substitution,x> 0.The refined X-ray diffraction data were utilized to compute the lattice parameters,X-ray density,and lattice parameter ratio.The crystal structure plotted from the refined XRD data reveals the occupancy of the ions at different lattice sites.The XPS data of the hexaferrite were analyzed to confirm the oxidation states of the constituent elements.The nanocrystalline nature of the hexaferrites was revealed from the crystallite sizes calculated using Scherer's formula.The analysis of FTIR spectra confirms that only a fraction of Ce^(3+)accommodated in the lattice and the remaining Ce content reside in the form of the CeO_(2) phase.The morphology of the hexaferrites was analyzed from the FESEM profiles of the ferrite samples.The magnetic behavior study was performed by analyzing the Curie temperature,hysteresis loops,and hyperfine interactions by means of susceptibility,V.S.M,and Mossbauer spectroscopy,respectively.The hexaferrites with increasing coercivity,decreasing saturation magnetization,and decreasing Curie temperature are reported in the study.The substituted Ce^(3+)ions inhibit the grain growth and create lattice imperfections giving rise to hexaferrites with tuned magnetic parameters suitable for different applications.

Photoluminescence and ratiometric thermo-response of Eu2+ and Eu3+ in BaAl2B2O7:Eu2+,Eu3+ phosphor materials

A novel Eu2+-Eu3+co-activated ratiometric thermo-sensitive phosphor was developed and synthesized by solid-state reaction.The valence state of Eu,photoluminescence and thermo-sensitive performance of the phosphor prepared either in ambient air or carbothermally were investigated and discussed.The phosphor shows high sensitivity(Sa=0.0173 K-1,Sr=0.461%/K) and superior signal discriminability(Δv～10380 cm-1).The thermo-sensitive performance is subject to the dual effects of different thermoresponses by Eu2+versus Eu3+combined with energy transfer from Eu2+to Eu3+,so that the sensitivity of the phosphor in the temperature range presents a non-monotonic trend.The development of the BaAl2B2O7:Eu2+,Eu3+phosphor is not only expected to be relevant for application in the field of temperature sensing,but also of reference significance for improving the sensitivity by means of energy transfer between co-activator ions over a wider temperature range of Eu2+-Eu3+co-activated ratiometric thermo-sensitive phosphors.

The developed system for eye and face detection using Convolutional Neural Networks(CNN)models,followed by eye classification and voice-based assistance,has shown promising potential in enhancing accessibility for individuals with visual impairments.The modular approach implemented in this research allows for a seamless flow of information and assistance between the different components of the system.This research significantly contributes to the field of accessibility technology by integrating computer vision,natural language processing,and voice technologies.By leveraging these advancements,the developed system offers a practical and efficient solution for assisting blind individuals.The modular design ensures flexibility,scalability,and ease of integration with existing assistive technologies.However,it is important to acknowledge that further research and improvements are necessary to enhance the system’s accuracy and usability.Fine-tuning the CNN models and expanding the training dataset can improve eye and face detection as well as eye classification capabilities.Additionally,incorporating real-time responses through sophisticated natural language understanding techniques and expanding the knowledge base of ChatGPT can enhance the system’s ability to provide comprehensive and accurate responses.Overall,this research paves the way for the development of more advanced and robust systems for assisting visually impaired individuals.By leveraging cutting-edge technologies and integrating them into amodular framework,this research contributes to creating a more inclusive and accessible society for individuals with visual impairments.Future work can focus on refining the system,addressing its limitations,and conducting user studies to evaluate its effectiveness and impact in real-world scenarios.
