Objective： To observe the effects of needles with different diameters on the gastrointestinal function in mice. Methods： Eighteen Kunming mice were randomly divided into group of 0.25 mm needle, group of 0.35 mm needle, and control group. The acupoint of Zusanli （ST 36） was needled once a day for 5 days. The effects of needles with different diameters were observed by measuring the distance of the carbon moved in the intestine. Results： The distance of the carbon moved in the intestine was longer in the acupuncture group than in the control group （P〈0.05）, and it was longer in the group of 0.35 mm needle than in the group of 0.30 mm needle, there was no significant difference （P〉0.05）. Conclusion： Acupuncture treatment can enhance the peristalsis function of stomach and intestine in mice. The diameter of needle has no effect on the gastrointestinal function.

Objective： To observe the effects of acupuncture-moxibustion on symptoms, signs, and Th1/Th2 cytokine, and regulation on Th1/Th2 in patients with perennial allergic rhinitis（PAR） to provide experimental basis for acupuncture treating allergic rhinitis and investigate the mechanism. Methods： Thirty patients with allergic rhinitis were treated with acupuncture-moxibustion, and 30 healthy cases were the control. Clinical symptoms, signs, and nasal mucosa were observed, and contents of IL-4, IFN-γ, and granulocyte-macrophage colony stimulating factor （GM-CSF） in the supernatant of peripheral blood monocyte cultured with PHA by ELISA, before treatment, after one course of treatment, and after two courses of treatment. Results： Before the treatment, the contents of IL-4, and GM-CSF were higher （P〈0.01） and IFN-γ was lower （P〈0.01） in the PAR cases than in the control cases. In the PAR cases, the content of GM-CSF was positive correlation with that of IL-4 （P〈0.01）, and negative correlation with IFN-7 （P〈0.01）. After the treatment, contents of IL-4 and GM-CSF were lowed （P〈0.01）, content of IFN-γ was increased （P〈0.05）, and all IL-4, GM-CSF and IFN-γ had no difference compared with those in the control cases. Conclusion： Acupuncture- moxibustion could improve the symptoms and signs in PAR patients, enhance the immune function. It may be achieved by regulating the expression of Th1 and Th2, correcting the imbalance of Th1/Th2.

Objective： To investigate the optimal time for treating facial paralysis with acupuncture therapy, Methods： Eighty-six patients with facial paralysis in different disease durations were treated with same needling technique. Patients of the treatment group at the developing stage were dealt with moderate stimulation, and at the stationary stage and the recovery stage with strong stimulation. Patients of the control group at the developing stage were treated with drugs improving micro-circulation and nerve functions, and glucocorticoids, at the stationary stage and the recovery stage with the same methods as in the treatment group. Results： The cure rate in the treatment group and the control group were 88.1% and 68.2% respectively, and the former has shorter treatment course. Conclusion： Acupuncture therapy has better effect on facial paralysis than routine Western medicine, and shorter treatment course.

Objective： To analyze the relevant literature regarding the effect of tuina on postpartum milk secretion and thus summarize the clinical rules on tuina for lactation disorder. Method： Investigate the relationship between tuina and postpartum milk secretion for four aspects, including the initial time of lactation, level of serum prolactin, volume of lactation, and Chinese medicine＇s understanding of tuina on milk secretion. Result and Conclusion： tuina on breasts after childbirth can speed and promote lactation. This has been proved by clinical practice over the past hundreds of years, along with modem laboratory and scientific research. This method, therefore, is of great significance in obstetrical nursing.

Clinical Observation on Insomnia Treated by Wei-Defensive Qi-Regulating and Brain-Strengthening Needling Technique

Purpose： In order to make a report on 90 cases of insomnia treated by the Wei-defensive qi-regulating and brain-strengthening needling technique, as a clinical subject of the multiple center, for assessing the preliminary standardized indications and operating methods and making an initial summary for writing the draft of the technique operation. Methods： By ratio of 1：1, the patients in conformity with the criteria were randomly divided into the experimental group and control group. In the experimental group, 45 cases were treated with the Wei-defensive qi-regulating and brain-strengthening needling technique on Baihui （GV 20）, Dazhui （GV 14）, Shenmai （BL 62）, Zhaohai （KJ 6）, plus ear points. In the control group, 45 cases were treated with routine acupuncture on Sishencong （Ex-HN 1）, Shenmen （HT 7）, Sanyinjiao （SP 6）, etc. The therapeutic effects in the two groups were observed and assessed in comparison. Results： The results showed cure in 15 cases, remarkable effect in 27 cases, effect in 42 cases, failure in 6 cases, and the total effective rate in 94.4% in 90 cases of insomnia. In the three centers, the statistic management was performed based upon PSQI integral and showed significant difference （P〈0.01）, and no significant difference among various groups （P〉0.01）. Conclusion： The therapeutic effect in the treatment of insomnia by Wei-defensive qi-regulating and brain-strengthening needling technique is better than the control group and the therapeutic effect and methods in various centers are stable, without any deviation.

Purpose: To observe the clinical therapeutic effect of different needling methods in the treatment of peripheral facial paralysis. Methods: A total of 158 cases of peripheral facial palsy patients are randomly divided into treatment group (n=116 cases, who are treated by penetration needling method) and control group (n=42 cases, who are treated with traditional acupuncture method). In treatment group, main acupoint pairs for penetration needling are Yangbai (GB 14) -Yuyao (EX-HN 4), Tongziliao (GB 1) -Taiyang (EX-HN 5), Jiache (ST 6) -Dicang (ST 4) and Chengjiang (CV 24) -Jiachengjiang (EX-HN) on the affected side, and in control group, the main acupoints used are Yifeng (TE 17), Yangbai (GB 14), Sibai (ST 2), Dicang (ST 4), Jiache (ST 6), Jingming (BL 1) and Chengjiang (CV 24). The treatment is given once daily with 10 sessions being a therapeutic course. Results: After 3 courses of treatment, the cure rates of treatment group and control group are 81.8% and 66.7% separately, showing a significant difference between two groups (P<0.05). The total effective rates of treatment and control groups are 96.5% and 88.1% separately, presenting a significant difference between two groups (P<0.01). Conclusion: The therapeutic effect of penetration needling method is better than that of traditional acupuncture method.
