Electroacupuncture of Neiguan(PC 6) inhibits enhanced voltage-gated sodium currents in ischemic ventricular myocytes

OBJECTIVE: To examine the effect of electroacupuncture(EA) at bilateral Neiguan(PC 6) on voltage-gated Na+currents(INa) and channels(Nav) in ischemic ventricular ***: EA serum was prepared from six male adult Sprague-Dawley rats that had received EA at bilateral Neiguan(PC 6). Eighteen ventricular myocytes were prepared from six SD rats using an enzymolysis approach. Myocardial ischemia was mimicked by perfusion of ischemic solution. Whole-cell patch-clamping was used to record three currents evoked from isolated cells. The first current was the control, and recorded in absence of ischemic solution current. The second was the ischemic current,and recorded after perfusion of ischemic solution for 5 min, while the EA current was last, and recorded after perfusion of EA serum for 5 min. Navkinetic curves were fitted using related ***: Compared with those in controls, in the presence of ischemic solution, peak amplitudes of INasignificantly increased from ﹣40 m V to +30 m V,and half-maximal inactivation potentials of Navincreased significantly, while half-maximal activation potentials, slope factors and the recovery time from inactivation to activation of Navwere unchanged. Compared with those in the ischemic solution, in the presence of EA serum, peak ischemic current amplitudes significantly reduced from ﹣40m V to + 40 m V, and half-maximal inactivation potentials were restored, while half-maximal activation potentials, slope factors and the recovery time from inactivation to activation of Navwere ***: EA at bilateral Neiguan(PC 6) can reduce enhanced INavia restoration of delayed Navinactivation in ischemic ventricular myocytes.

Efficacy of Zhenjingdingzhi decoction in treating insomnia with Qi-deficiency of heart and gallbladder:a randomized,double-blind,controlled trial

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the clinical efficacy of Zhenjingdingzhi decoction in treating insomnia with Qi-deficiency of heart and ***: We conducted a double-blind,randomized,controlled trial involving 100 patients with insomnia of Qi-deficiency of heart and *** were randomly divided into the treatment group(n = 50) and the control group(n = 50) according to a random number table. The treatment group was given Zhenjingdingzhi decoction,while the control group was treated with Suanzaoren decoction. the pharmacological treatment lasted for 8weeks. The clinical efficacy was assessed by using Spiegel scale,Pittsburgh sleep quality index(PSQI)and Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM) syndrome ***: Comparing Spiegel scores between the two groups at 4 and 8 weeks,the differences in curative effect between the two groups were both significant(both P < 0.05). The total effective rate was46% in the treatment group and 27.7% in the control group at 4 weeks,and 80% and 53.2% at 8weeks,respectively; After 8 weeks,PSQI scores showed that the total effective rates differed significantly between the two groups(P < 0.01): 84% in the treatment group and 59.6% in the control group; In improving sleep quality and sleep duration,the curative effect of the treatment group was better than that of the control group(P < 0.05).TCM syndrome,especially insomnia and palpitation,was improved better in the treatment group after 8 weeks as compared to that in the control group(P < 0.05). The total effective rate of the two groups was 84% and 66%,***: Zhenjingdingzhi decoction is effective and safe for the treatment of insomnia with Qi-deficiency of heart and gallbladder,especially for improving sleep quality and sleep duration.

Clinical Efficacy Evaluation on Electroacupuncture for Osteoarthritis and Observation on Biomechanical Indexes

Objective： To observe the clinical efficacy of electroacupuncture for knee osteoarthritis （KOA）. Method： Forty KOA cases were randomized into an electroacupuncture and a tuina group （20 cases in each group） by their visit order. The therapeutic efficacy was evaluated by the WOMAC osteoarthritis index obtained prior to the treatment, and 2 or 4 weeks afterwards. In addition, the gait prior to the treatment and afterwards were tested by a gait analyzer. Results： The WOMAC scale revealed that after 4 weeks of treatment, cases in both groups got significant improvement （P〈0.01 in both electroacupuncture and tuina group） in pain relief, stiffness improvement and management of daily activities; cases in the electroacupuncture group showed a better result after 2 weeks of treatment, coupled with a better result than tuina group in managing daily activities and pain relief after 4-week treatment, however, there was no significant difference between the two groups in stiffness improvement. Cases in the electroacupuncture group also showed a significant improvement （P 〈0.05） in step length, stride length, step speed and walking cycles after the treatment, but no significant difference in the Q angle. Conclusion： Electroacupuncture has better effect for knee osteoarthritis than tuina, and it can also improve the gait performance of the patients.

Influence of Electroacupuncture on COX Activity of Hippocampal Mitochondria in Senescence-accelerated Mouse Prone 8 Mice

Objective: To observe the effect of electroacupuncture(EA) on cytochrome c oxidase(COX) activity of hippocampal mitochondria in senescence-accelerated mouse prone 8(SAMP8) mice, and to explore the EA mechanism on Alzheimer disease(AD) in improving energy metabolic disorder. Methods: Twelve SAMP8 mice were randomly divided into a model group and an EA group, with six in each group. Six senescence-accelerated mouse resistance 1(SAMR1) mice were prepared as blank group. Mice in the EA group received EA on Baihui(GV 20) and Yongquan(KI 1), once a day for 7 d as a course, altogether 3 courses with one day interval between two courses. Mice in the model group and the blank group were manipulated and fixed as those in the EA group. After interventions, Morris water maze was employed to test spatial learning and memory ability to evaluate EA effect; spectrophotometry was used to detect the activity of hippocampal mitochondria COX. Results: Compared with the blank group, mean escape latencies of the EA group and model group were prolonged significantly in Morris water maze tests(P<0.01), the residue duration in the former platform quadrant significantly decreased(P<0.01). Compared with the model group, mean escape latencies on 1 d, 2 d and 3 d of the EA group were significantly reduced(P<0.05), and those on 4 d and 5 d continued the decreasing tendency(P<0.01), the residue duration on the former platform quadrant was significantly prolonged(P<0.05). The COX activity tests showed that, compared with the blank group, COX activities of the model group and the EA group were significantly decreased(P<0.01); compared with the model group, COX activity of the EA group was significantly elevated(P<0.01). Conclusion: It's plausible that EA improves AD learning and memory ability by increasing mitochondria COX activity, protecting the structure and function, and improving energy metabolism.

Objective： This paper discusses the methods on how to develop students＇ motiation in tuina exercises, as a result, to improve the teaching quality of Manipulation of Tuina. Methods： For tuina exercises in Manipulation of Tuina, multiple sensory, apprentice, multimedia and practice teaching methods are comprehensively employed to relieve students＇ physical and mental fatigue resulting from tuina exercising and to develop their motivation in tuina exercises. Result and Conclusion： Comprehensive use of these several pedagogies can enliven classroom atmosphere, enhance the students＇ initiative in tuina exercises, broaden their horizons and consequently achieve good teaching results.

A comparative study of the effect of low-frequency electroacupuncture on blood lipids between men and women with simple obesity

Objective:To observe the difference of the effect of low-frequency electroacupuncture(EA)on blood lipids between male and female patients with simple obesity due to damp induced by spleen ***:Eighty patients with simple obesity were recruited,including 37 males and 43 females,to receive low-frequency EA by selecting Yinlingquan(SP 10),Sanyinjiao(SP 6),Zusanli(ST 36),Fenglong(ST 40),Quchi(LI 11),Tianshu(ST 25),Zhongwan(CV 12),Shuifen(CV 9),Qihai(CV 6)and Guanyuan(CV 4),with needles retained for 30 *** treatment was given once a day,10 sessions as a treatment course,for 2 courses in *** contents of body fat percentage(F%),total cholesterol(TC),triglyceride(TG),high-density lipoprotein(HDL),low-density lipoprotein(LDL),blood glucose(Glu)and adiponectin(ADPN)in serum were observed to see the changes,and the two groups were compared and ***:After the treatment,F%,and serum contents of TC,TG,LDL,Glu and ADPN dropped significantly in the two groups(P〈0.05 or P〈0.01)and the serum content of HDL increased significantly in male group(P〈0.05).The decrease of F%in female group was more significant than that in male group(P〈0.01);the decrease of ADPN in male group was more significant than that in female group(P〈0.05).Conclusion:EA can regulate the disordered blood lipids in male and female patients with simple obesity,with certain differences between *** decrease of subcutaneous fat content is more significant in females than that in males,while the decrease of ADPN is more significant in males.

Cystine proportion regulates fate of polypeptide nanogel as nanocarrier for chemotherapeutics

The physicochemical characteristics of nanoparticles are closely related to their drug delivery performances in vitro and in vivo.A well-designed nanocarrier can prolong the drug half-life in the blood circulation,upregulate the drug accumulation at the target site,and enhance the treatment *** elucidate the impact of physicochemical properties on the fate of nanogel as a nanocarrier of chemotherapeutics,three methoxy poly(ethylene glycol)-poly(L-phenylalanine-co-L-cystine)(mPEG-P(LP-coLC))nanogels with different L-cystine proportions were developed,namely mPEG-P(LP10-co-LC5)(NG10-5),mPEG-P(LP10-coLC10)(NG10-10),and mPEG-P(LP10-co-LC15)(NG10-15).The three nanogels shared similar surface charge and reductionresponsive behavior,but they had distinct diameters and different drug release *** them,NG10-5,which has the smallest diameter,was preferentially internalized by tumor cells in vitro and showed rapid migration to the tumor site in *** doxorubicin(DOX)as a model chemotherapeutic agent,NG10-5/DOX had the most prolonged blood circulation period and highest tumor accumulation after intravenous ***10-5/DOX also had the most potent antitumor effect of all three drug-loaded ***,adjusting physicochemical characteristics by changing the amino acid composition might improve the therapeutic efficacies of nanogels and enhance their potential for clinical application.

Effect of reward alteration following acupuncture for morphine withdrawal rats on neuronal discharges in the ventral medial prefrontal cortex

Objective：To observe the effect of reward alteration following acupuncture for morphine withdrawal rats on the behavior and neuronal discharges in the medial prefrontal cortex （mPFC）. Methods：The Sprague-Dawley （SD） rats were randomly allocated into a model group, a confinement group, an electroacupuncture （EA） group, and a control group. Rats with morphine addiction were made by intraperitoneal injection of naloxone （same dose injection of saline for rats in the control group）, followed by a 2-week morphine withdrawal. Acupuncture and confinement were completed during the morphine withdrawal period. Upon withdrawal, the rats received conditioned place preference （CPP） training and open field test. The multi-channel neural signal processor was used in the electrophysiological experiment to measure the neuronal discharges in different subareas of prefrontal cortex in CPP box and aversion box. Results：Rats in the model group and the confinement group spent longer period of time in CPP box than those in the EA group and the control group （allP〈0.01）; there was no statistically significant difference between the EA group and the control group. The total distances of movement by rats in the model group and the confinement group were longer than those in the EA group and the control group （allP〈0.01）. The mPFC neuronal discharge frequencies were compared between morphine preference box and aversion box. The mPFC neuronal discharge frequencies in the model group and the confinement group were higher than those in the EA group and the control group （allP〈0.05）; there was no statistically significant difference between the EA group and the control group. Conclusion：Acupuncture can effectively interfere with the reward alteration following morphine withdrawal, possibly because of its involvement with the mPFC neuronal discharges.

Protective Mechanism of Electroacupuncture on Peripheral Neurotoxicity Induced by Oxaliplatin in Rats

Objective:To study the effect of electroacupuncture(EA)on oxaliplatin-induced peripheral neuropathy(OIPN)in ***:Male Sprague-Dawley rats were equally divided into 3 groups using a random number table:the control group,the OIRN group,and the EA(OIPN+EA)group,with 10 rats in *** time courses of mechanical,cold sensitivity,and microcirculation blood flow intensity were *** morphology of the dorsal root ganglion(DRG)was observed by electron microscopic *** protein levels of nuclear factor E2-related factor 2(Nrf2),heme oxygenase-1(HO-1),and the transient receptor potential(TRP)protein family in DRGs were assayed by Western ***:EA treatment significantly reduced mechanical allodynia and cold allodynia in OIPN rats(P<0.01).Notably,oxaliplatin treatment resulted in impaired microcirculatory blood flow and pathomorphological defects in DRGs(P<0.01).EA treatment increased the microcirculation blood flow and attenuated the pathological changes induced by oxaliplatin(P<0.01).In addition,the expression levels of Nrf2 and HO-1 were down-regulated,and the TRP protein family was over-expressed in the DRGs of OIPN rats(P<0.01).EA increased the expression levels of Nrf2 and HO-1 and decreased the level of TRP protein family in DRG(P<0.05 or P<0.01).Conclusion:EA may be a potential alternative therapy for OIPN,and its mechanism may be mainly mediated by restoring the Nrf2/HO-1 signaling pathway.
