A novel method for analyzing dominant oscillation mode based on improved EMD and signal energy algorithm

In this paper, a novel method that integrates the improved empirical mode decomposition （EMD） and signal energy algorithm is proposed to estimate the dominant oscillation parameters and corresponding mode shape. Firstly, the EMD with symmetrical extrema extension （SEE） is utilized to decompose the measured data from wide area measurement system （WAMS） into a finite set of intrinsic mode functions （1MFs）. Then, the signal energy algorithm is used to calculate the approximate oscillation parameters of the IMFs. The nodes involved the dominant oscillation mode are classified based on the calculated frequency and reasonable threshold. Furthermore, for the dominant oscillation mode, the IMF with maximum mean amplitude is defined as the reference. Next, the relative phases （RPs） between the reference IMF and other 1MFs are calculated in order to identify the negative and positive oscillation groups. According to the values of RPs, the coherent group and corresponding node contribution factor （NCF） can be identified, and the dominant approximate mode shape （AMS） can also be determined. The efficiency of the proposed approach is tested by applying it to synthetic signal and measured data from the simulation model.

Nonparametric VSS-APA based on precise background noise power estimate

The adaptive algorithm used for echo cancellation(EC) system needs to provide 1) low misadjustment and 2) high convergence rate. The affine projection algorithm(APA) is a better alternative than normalized least mean square(NLMS) algorithm in EC applications where the input signal is highly correlated. Since the APA with a constant step-size has to make compromise between the performance criteria 1) and 2), a variable step-size APA(VSS-APA) provides a more reliable solution. A nonparametric VSS-APA(NPVSS-APA) is proposed by recovering the background noise within the error signal instead of cancelling the a posteriori errors. The most problematic term of its variable step-size formula is the value of background noise power(BNP). The power difference between the desired signal and output signal, which equals the power of error signal statistically, has been considered the BNP estimate in a rough manner. Considering that the error signal consists of background noise and misalignment noise, a precise BNP estimate is achieved by multiplying the rough estimate with a corrective factor. After the analysis on the power ratio of misalignment noise to background noise of APA, the corrective factor is formulated depending on the projection order and the latest value of variable step-size. The new algorithm which does not require any a priori knowledge of EC environment has the advantage of easier controllability in practical application. The simulation results in the EC context indicate the accuracy of the proposed BNP estimate and the more effective behavior of the proposed algorithm compared with other versions of APA class.

Waveguide mechanism and design of thermal contact resistance at metal rheologic interface

The main factors and their varied disciplines affecting the heat transfer at the metal rheologic interface were studied from the waveguide mechanism of heat transfer of electrons and phonons, guiding the design of thermal contact resistance through studying the microscale mechanism of heat transfer at the interface. The results show that electron has stronger quantum tunneling effect when the thickness of oxide film is smaller than de Broglie wavelength of electron and the heat conduction of oxide film produces microscale effect. The thickness and nature of oxide film dominate the heat transfer at the metal rheologic interface. The main means to design the interface contact conductance are to control the formation of oxide film as well as the process of machining of roller surface and lubrication of interface.

Focusing on the research and development of transnormal twin roll casting technology and modeling and simulation of twin roll casting process, the progresses made in China to date in the following aspects were introduced, the analysis and calculation of heat conductance both in contact zone between the strip and the outside of the roller and the inside of the roller; the 3 D numerical simulation of molten aluminum flow in feed tip nozzle; the research of the effects of electromagnetic fields on textures and mechanical properties of casting rolling strip, and the modeling and simulation of twin roll casting process including the methods of modeling and some significant results.

A New Fire Detection Method Using a Multi-Expert System Based on Color Dispersion, Similarity and Centroid Motion in Indoor Environment

In this paper, a video fire detection method is proposed, which demonstrated good performance in indoor environment. Three main novel ideas have been introduced. Firstly, a flame color model in RGB and HIS color space is used to extract pre-detected regions instead of traditional motion differential method, as it’s more suitable for fire detection in indoor environment. Secondly, according to the flicker characteristic of the flame, similarity and two main values of centroid motion are proposed. At the same time, a simple but effective method for tracking the same regions in consecutive frames is established. Thirdly,a multi-expert system consisting of color component dispersion,similarity and centroid motion is established to identify *** proposed method has been tested on a very large dataset of fire videos acquired both in real indoor environment tests and from the Internet. The experimental results show that the proposed approach achieved a balance between the false positive rate and the false negative rate, and demonstrated a better performance in terms of overall accuracy and F standard with respect to other similar fire detection methods in indoor environment.

A New Cooperative Distributed MPC Method Based on Reduction and Classification

To decrease the overlarge calculation induced by the centralized processing,a new cooperative distributed Model predictive control(MPC)method is proposed for large-scale systems with coupled *** and classification are investigated by defining the influence degree to reduce the whole system and then to classify the reduced system into several subsystem *** groups are mutually decoupled,while there is relativity between these subsystems comprised in the same ***/cooperative and distributed MPC algorithms for each group are implemented to ensure the feasibility and the stability of the whole ***,for practical applications,the finite times interactive control strategy between different groups is adopted to compensate information loss brought by the reduced subsystem and realize the global cooperative distributed *** algorithm significantly decreases the computational load,has better control *** are given to illustrate the effectiveness of these developed algorithms.

Disturbance Observer Based Speed Control of PMSM Using Fractional Order PI Controller

In this paper, fractional order PI(FOPI) control is developed for speed control of permanent magnet synchronous motor(PMSM). Designing the parameters for FOPI controller is a challenging task, especially for nonlinear systems like *** three PI controllers in the conventional vector controlled speed drive are replaced by FOPI controllers. Design of these FOPI controllers is based on the locally linearized model of PMSM around an operating point. This operating point changes with the load torque. The novelty of the work reported here is in use of Non Linear Disturbance Observer(NLDO) to estimate load torque to obtain this new operating point. All three FOPI controllers are then designed adaptively using this new operating point. The scheme is tested on simulation using MATLAB/SIMULINK and results are presented.

The effects of hydrogen on the helium behavior in palladium

As one candidate of tritium storage materials,palladium subjects to the damage from helium atoms introduced by the(3-decay of tritium *** mechanical properties of palladium will be greatly degraded deriving from the accumulation of helium atoms.A set of interatomic potentials has been fitted based on ab initio calculation according to the Morse *** dynamic methods are utilized to investigate the existence of H atoms on the release of helium atoms from palladium with the present fitted *** is found that hydrogen atoms play significant roles in the diffusion and release of helium *** presence of hydrogen atoms tends to obstacle the diffusion and release of helium atoms in palladium.
