Because of the importance of central nervous system (CNS) functions to productive capacity and quality of life, biomarkers of these functions will play a key role in evaluating the success of interventions targeting aging processes. The CNS biomarkers may also be useful for predicting aging in other systems and in the organism as a whole. Age-related behavioral changes, the products of CNS aging, have content and predictive validity with respect to human functional capacities and may, therefore, represent important "neurobehavioral" markers of functional aging. This article presents a discussion of some behavioral paradigms which are currently being considered as neurobehavioral biomarkers of aging in mice and the experimental approaches being employed in the assessment of their validity. Introduction: Medical student training and experiences in nursing homes are often viewed as negative;however, long-term care services represent a growing aspect of our medical system that receives little attention in medical education. The University of New England college of osteopathic medicine Learning by Living Nursing Home Immersion Project accelerates students learning about older adult care and the importance of empathy. Methods: Learning by Living applies qualitative ethnographic/autobiographic research methods to answer the question: “What is it like for me to live the life of an older adult nursing home resident?” Two first year medical students (female, 25 y/o & male, 27 y/o) were “admitted” into two different nursing homes for 11 days each. The students were wheelchair reliant from their assigned diagnoses of dominant-side paralysis secondary to stroke and aspiration pneumonia;requiring standard procedures of care experienced by older adults residents with similar conditions. Data were collected in the form of journal notes for pre-fieldwork, fieldwork, and post-fieldwork and included subjective and objective reporting of observations, experiences, and resident encounters. Analyses included journal review and thematic categorization and coding through content analysis. Results: Four themes of significance intersected for the two medical students: 1) control;2) quality of life;3) communication;and 4) isolation. Being immersed in nursing home life provided the students with firsthand experiences of loss and challenges faced by nursing home residents. This aided students’ learning about empathy and communication as key components of providing health care. Conclusion: This experience imparted knowledge to the medical students’ about aging, dignity, and the importance of making meaningful connections in order to thrive. The Functional Contentment Model (FCM) attains two objectives: 1) building a relationship focused plan of care for nursing home residents diagnosed with dementia;and 2) maximizing and maintaining older adults’ contentment, peace, and happiness while living in dementia care environments. There are three essential components within the FCM: 1) Person/Family Centered Care;2) Slow medicine;and 3) Team Care Management. The principles of “Person/Family-Centered Care” are coupled with the philosophy of “Slow medicine,” and neither can exist without the engagement of “Team Care Management.” In short, the FCM maximizes the older adult’s potential functioning in activities of daily living, cognition, gross and fine motor skills, communication, and physical well-being, while maintaining the highest possible level of contentment, peace, and happiness. This is accomplished through dynamically utilized professional modalities adapted to the changing needs of the older adult resident—pharmacologic, physical and occupational therapies, family education and involvement, dietary, spiritual, stimulating activities, as well as any individualized modality. The lead for operationalizing the Functional Contentment Model is the nursing home medical director, whose key role is assuring a team approach to care including the older adult resident, the family, and all staff (dietary, housekeeping maintenance as well as care and administrative staff). The FCM is a culture change model that has implications in practice and policy for each nursing home.

The TMPRSS2‐ERG fusion gene has frequently been found in prostate cancer and is associated with *** novel fusions will help to stratify patients and establish patient‐tailored therapies.A 78‐year‐old man presented to our hospital with severe symptoms of urinary urgency and frequency for 2 years,as well as severe bone pain for 1 *** was diagnosed with metastatic prostate cancer with a Gleason score of 5+*** gene fusions,ERG_VEGFA,TMPRSS2_ERG,and VEGFA_TMPRSS2,were identified in the patient's prostate cancer ***,administration of the tyrosine kinase inhibitor,anlotinib,in combination with a gonadotropinreleasing hormone agonist(GnRHa)and abiraterone,reduced the patient's bone pain and also stabilized his prostate cancer for more than 2 *** is the first report of somatic fusions among the VEGFA,ERG,and TMPRSS2 genes in cancer tissues from a patient with prostate cancer who responded well to antiangiogenic treatment combined with a GnRHa and abiraterone.

Most researchers believe that neurogenesis in mature mammals is restricted only to the subgranular zone of the dentate gyrus and the subventricular zone of the lateral ventricle in the central nervous system. In the peripheral nervous system, neurogenesis is thought to be active only during prenatal development, with the exception of the olfactory neuroepithelium. However, sensory ganglia in the adult peripheral nervous system have been reported to contain precursor cells that can proliferate in vitro and be induced to differentiate into neurons. The occurrence of insult-induced neurogenesis, which has been reported by several investigators in the brain, is limited to a few recent reports for the peripheral nervous system. These reports suggest that damage to the adult nervous system induces mechanisms similar to those that control the generation of new neurons during prenatal development. Understanding conditions under which neurogenesis can be induced in physiologically non-neurogenic regions in adults is one of the major challenges for developing therapeutic strategies to repair neurological damage. However, the induced neurogenesis in the peripheral nervous system is still largely unexplored. This review presents the history of research on adult neurogenesis in the peripheral nervous system, which dates back more than 100 years and reveals the evidence on the under estimated potential for generation of new neurons in the adult peripheral nervous system.

INTRODUCTION Over the past few decades,traumatic brain injuries(TBIs)have become one of the leading causes of death and the leading cause of injury-related death in the USA.[1,2]It is estimated that 1.70 million people are subject to TBIs each year.[2]Males are more likely to sustain TBIs(59%);the most common age groups are 0–5 years,15–19 years,and>65 years.[2]Approximately 1.36 million people present to the emergency department(ED),275,000 are admitted to the hospital,and 52,000 people die from TBIs.[2]The leading causes of TBIs are falling(35.2%),motor vehicle collisions(MVCs,17.3%),struck by/against an object(16.5%),and assault(10.0%).[2]These statistics combine to make TBIs the leading cause of injury-related death in the USA at 30.5%.[2]It has been estimated that,with specifi c guidelines from the Brain Trauma Foundation,up to 50.0%of the 52,000 TBIrelated deaths may be prevented.[3]

AIM： To evaluate the diagnostic values of serum autoan tibodies against matrix metalloproteinase-7 （MMP-7） in patients with esophageal squamous cell carcinoma （ESCC）. METHODS： The MMP-7 cDNA was cloned from ESCC tissues, and MMP-7 was expressed and purified from a prokaryotic system. MMP-7 autoanUbodies were then measured in sera from 50 patients with primary ESCC and 58 risk-matched controls, using a reverse capture enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay （ELISA） in which autoantibodies to MMP-7 bound to the purified MMP-7 proteins. In addition, MMP-7 autoantibody levels in sera from 38 gastric cancer patients and from control serum samples were also tested. RESULTS： The optimum conditions for recombinant MMP-7 protein expression were determined as 0.04 mmol/L Isopropyl-13-D-Thiogalactopyranoside （IPTG）induction at 37℃ for four hours. The levels of serum autoantibodies against MMP-7 were significantly higher in patients with ESCC than in the matched-control samples （OD450 = 1.69 ±0.08 vs OD450 = 1.55 ± 0.10, P 〈 0.001）. The area under the receiver operating character- istic （ROC） curve was 0.87. The sensitivity and specificity for detection of ESCC were 78.0% and 81.0%, respectively, when the OD450 value was greater than 1.65. Although the levels of autoantibodies against MMP-7 were also significantly higher in patients with gastric cancer compared to control samples （OD450 = 1.62± 0.06 vs OD450 = 1.55±0.10, P 〈 0.001）, the diagnostic accuracy was less significant than in ESCC patients. The area of ROC curve was 0.75, whereas the sensitivity and specificity were 60.5% and 71.7%, respectively, when the cut-off value of OD450 was set at 1.60. CONCLUSION： Serum autoantibody levels of MMP-7 may be a good diagnostic biomarker for esophageal squamous cell carcinoma,
