Identification and immune analysis of antimicrobial peptides from the cigarette beetle(Lasioderma serricorne)

Antimicrobial peptides(AMPs)in insects are endogenous peptides that are effector components of the innate defense system of the *** may serve as antimicrobial agents because of their small molecular weight and broad-spectrum antimicrobial *** this study,we performed transcriptome analysis of cigarette beetle(Lasioderma serricorne)larvae,parasitized by the ectoparasitic wasp,Anisopteromalus *** AMP genes were significantly upregulated following *** parasitism,postulating the hypothesis that the parasitization enhanced the host's resistance against pathogenic microorganisms through the regulation of host AMP ***,3 AMP genes(LsDef1,LsDef2,and LsCole)were significantly upregulated and we studied their immune function in *** challenge and functional analysis showed that LsCole was responsible for the immune response against Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria,while LsDef1 and LsDef2 were involved in insect defense against Gram-positive *** recombinant LsCole exhibited antimicrobial activities against the Gram-negative bacterium Escherichia coli and the Gram-positive bacterium Staphylococcus ***2 showed an antibacterial effect against *** and LsDef2 exhibited antibiofilm activity against *** 2 AMPs disrupted cell membranes and caused leakage of *** cell *** results indicated that the 3 AMPs in *** are involved in the innate immunity of this pest *** AMPs may have potential as antimicrobial agents for bacterial infection ***,data are discussed in relation to new control strategies with greater biosafety against pest insects with use of microbial biocontrol agents in combination with RNA interference against the insect's defensive AMP genes.

Dynamics of holographic images of scalar-tensor-vector gravity-AdS black holes

Using AdS/CFT correspondence,we analyze the holographic Einstein images via the response function of the complex scalar field as a probe wave on an AdS Schwarzschild scalar-tensor-vector gravity(STVG)black hole(BH).We find that the amplitude of the response function||decreases with increasing values of coupling parameter a and increases with decreasing temperature *** frequencyωof the wave source also plays a significant role in wave periods;as we increase the values ofω,the periods of waves decrease,indicating that the total response function closely depends on the wave ***,we investigate the optical appearance of the holographic images of the BH in *** found that the holographic ring always appears with surrounding concentric stripes when the observer is located at the north pole,and an extremely bright ring appears when the observer is at the position of the photon sphere of the *** ring changes into a luminosity-deformed ring or a bright light spot as the observational angle *** corresponding brightness profiles show that the luminosity of the ring decreases and the shadow radius increases with increasing values of *** relation between temperature T and the inverse of the horizonh_e is discussed;T is small at the beginning of the horizon he and then increases as the horizon radius *** effect can be used to distinguish the STVG BH solution from other BH ***,these significant features are also reflected in the Einstein ring and corresponding brightness *** addition,we compare the results obtained by wave optics and geometric optics,which align well,implying that the holographic scheme adopted in this study is valid.

The small-signal stability of multi-terminal high voltage direct current(HVDC)systems has become one of the vital issues in modern power *** among voltage source converters(VSCs)have a significant impact on the stability of the *** paper proposes an interaction quantification method based on the self-/en-stabilizing coefficients of the general N-terminal HVDC system with a weak AC network ***,we derive the explicit formulae of self-/en-stabilizing coefficients for any N-terminal HVDC system,which can quantify the interactions through different paths *** relation between the self-/en-stabilizing coefficients and the poles of the system can be used to evaluate the impact of the interactions on the system stability ***,we employ the obtained formulae to analyze the parameter sensitivity and explain how a parameter affects the stability of the system through different paths of ***,extensive examples are given to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Valorization of Agricultural Residues for Hydrogen-Based Electricity Generation towards Circular Bioeconomy

Global crises, notably climate shocks, degraded ecosystems, and growing energy demand, enforce sustainable production and consumption pathways. A circular bioeconomy offers the opportunities to actualize resource and eco-efficiency enhancement, valorization of waste streams, reduction of fossil energy and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Albeit biomass resources are a potential feedstock for bio-hydrogen (bio-H2) production, Ghana’s agricultural residues are not fully utilized. This paper examines the economic and environmental impact of bio-H2 electricity generation using agricultural residues in Ghana. The bio-H2 potential was determined based on biogas steam reforming (BSR). The research highlights that BSR could generate 2617 kt of bio-H2, corresponding to 2.78% of the global hydrogen demand. Yam and maize residues contribute 50.47% of the bio-H2 produced, while millet residues have the most negligible share. A tonne of residues could produce 16.59 kg of bio-H2 and 29.83 kWh of electricity. A total of 4,705.89 GWh of electricity produced could replace the consumption of 21.92% of Ghana’s electricity. The economic viability reveals that electricity cost is $0.174/kWh and has a positive net present value of $2135550609.45 with a benefit-to-cost ratio of 1.26. The fossil diesel displaced is 1421.09 ML, and 3862.55 kt CO2eq of carbon emissions decreased corresponding to an annual reduction potential of 386.26 kt CO2eq. This accounts for reducing 10.26% of Ghana’s GHG emissions. The study demonstrates that hydrogen-based electricity production as an energy transition is a strategic innovation pillar to advance the circular bioeconomy and achieve sustainable development goals.

Use of infrared thermal imaging to diagnose health of Ammopiptanthus mongolicus in northwestern China

Population of the rare and endangered species Ammopiptanthus mongolicus （Maxim.） Cheng f. declined rapidly in China＇s add region and Central Asia. There is an urgent need to protect this species, which is particularly important in maintaining biodiversity throughout the arid region of northwestern China. By analyzing the infrared thermal images based on plant-transpiration transfer coef- ficient （hat） and photosynthetic parameters, we made quantitative and accurate diagnoses of the plant growth and health status of A. mongolicus. Using an LI-COR6400 photosynthesis system, we measured the net photosynthetic rate （Pn）, stomatal conductance （Gs）, and transpiration rate （Tr）. Infrared thermal images obtained in the field were processed by ENVI4.8 software to calculate surface tem- peratures of the plant subjects. We found that the plant transpiration transfer coefficient of A. mongolicus was inthe order of old plants 〉young plants 〉intermediate-aged plants. Declining health levels of young, intermediate, and old plants were divided into three categories：〈0.4, 0.4-0.7, and 〉0.7. The coefficient showed a significant negative correlation with Tr, Gs, and Pn, indicating that they can simultaneously reflect the state of plant growth. By estab- lishing hat and photosynthetic parameters in regression model Y = a-blnx, we can accurately diagnose plant growth and decline of plant health conditions.

Over the last three decades,China’s agriculture sector has been transformed from the traditional to modern practice through the effective deployment of Information and Communication Technologies(ICTs).Information processing and dissemination have played a critical role in this transformation *** studies in relation to agriculture information services have been conducted in China,but few of them have attempted to provide a comprehensive review and analysis of different information dissemination models and their *** paper aims to review and identify the ICT based information dissemination models in China and to share the knowledge and experience in applying emerging ICTs in disseminating agriculture information to farmers and farm communities to improve productivity and economic,social and environmental *** paper reviews and analyzes the development stages of China’s agricultural information dissemination systems and different mechanisms for agricultural information service development and *** ICT-based information dissemination models are identified and *** cases are *** findings provide a useful direction for researchers and practitioners in developing future ICT based information dissemination *** is hoped that this paper will also help other developing countries to learn from China’s experience and best practice in their endeavor of applying emerging ICTs in agriculture information dissemination and knowledge transfer.
