A new finite element method （FEM） of B-spline wavelet on the interval （BSWI） is proposed. Through analyzing the scaling functions of BSWI in one dimension, the basic formula for 2D FEM of BSWI is deduced. The 2D FEM of 7 nodes and 10 nodes are constructed based on the basic formula. Using these proposed elements, the multiscale numerical model for foundation subjected to harmonic periodic load, the foundation model excited by external and internal dynamic load are studied. The results show the pro- posed finite elements have higher precision than the tradi- tional elements with 4 nodes. The proposed finite elements can describe the propagation of stress waves well whenever the foundation model excited by extemal or intemal dynamic load. The proposed finite elements can be also used to con- nect the multi-scale elements. And the proposed finite elements also have high precision to make multi-scale analysis for structure.

Laser-induced chemical vapor deposition (LCVD) is an important process for freeform microfabrication of high aspect ratio prototypes. The system consists of a laser beam focused onto a movable substrate in a vacuum chamber. Heat from the laser at or near the focal spot of the beam causes gas in the chamber to react. As a result, solid-phase reaction products are deposited on the substrate to form the microstructure. In this paper, we develop a numerical model for simulating growth of an axisymmetric cylindrical rod by pre-specifying the surface temperatures required for growing the rod and then by solving for the laser power that satisfies the pre-specified temperatures. The solution using least squares is obtained by minimizing the sum of square deviations between the pre-specified surface temperatures and the calculated temperatures from the heat equation with a given laser power as a heat source. Model predictions of the laser power over growth time helped in optimizing the growth process. Rods grown based on the predicted laser power from the numerical model were very close to being cylindrical in shape. Ways to further improve the model are being investigated.

In this paper our interest is focussed on the behavior in the transition of the Traveling Wave (TW) convective patterns along the nonlinear branch in a rectangular cell of Γ=12 for ψ=-0.11. Our numerical simulations were performed by solving the two-dimensional hydrodynamic equations using the SIMPLE method. Three types of convection patterns appearing in the nonlinear branch of the bifurcation diagram were observed. In particular, the undulation TW state in the rectangular cell was obtained, and the hysteresis in the transition from the TW State to the Stationary Overturning Convection (SOC) was verified.

Reference free part encapsulation (RFPE) is a non-traditional universal fixturing technique. In this paper, new filler material-a lower melting point alloy for RFPE technique is introduced. Based on experiment, the shrinkage and expansion rate, the effect of filler on workpiece drift and the effect of filler thickness on cutting distortion are studied. The alloy has a good mechanical and physical performance and the need of RFPE fixturing can be perfectly satisfied. The result shows that if the formula and process parameters of filler material are properly selected, it can obviously improve the quality of the workpiece, enhance the machining efficiency and reduce the manufacturing cost.

Present paper researches the theoretical method for calculating the wave resistance of wave-piercing catamaran. As an example the wave resistance of a wave-piercing catamaran is calculated. The comparison among the theoretical calculation results, the model test results and the graphic evaluation results shows the efficiency of present theoretical method. Finally the wave resistance regulation of wave-piercing catamarans is investigated based on the theoretical method.

To predict the behavior of geogrids embedded in sand under pullout loading conditions, the two dimensional plane-stress finite element model was presented. The interactions between soil and geogrid were simulated as non-linear springs, and the stiffness of the springs was determined from simple tests in the specially designed pullout box. The predicted behavior of the geogrid under pullout load agrees well with the observed data including the load-displacement properties, the displacement distribution along the longitudinal direction and the mobilization of the frictional and bearing resistance. Study on fracture characteristic of welded high-density polyethylene pipe

Crack opening displacement(COD) was applied to characterize the fracture initiation of the tough high density polyethylene. Normal single side notched three point bend specimens and silica rubber replica techniques were used to study the characteristic COD of high density polyethylene pipe and its butt fusion joints including the weld fusion zone and heat affected zone at different temperature from -78 ℃ to 20 ℃ . Testing results show that the characteristic COD appears to depend on the structural features that are determined by welding process and the testing temperature. As the temperature is lowered, the characteristic COD of all zones studied decreases. Because the welding process significantly changes some structural feature of the material, characteristic COD of the weld fusion zone is the smallest one among those of the three zones. The results can be used for the eng.neering design and failure analysis of HDPE pipe.

In this article, Cyclic Activated Sludge System (CASS) used to treat some kinds of dyes wastewater has been described thoroughly, and the effect of dyes wastewater after being treated has also been studied. The results show that the removal efficiencies of CODcr, BOD5, NH3 - N and chromaticity can respectively reach 87 % to 94 % , 94% to 98%, 91% to 94% and 91% to 93% depending on the control parameters of operation. All the water quality parameter of effluent meets the Government Drainage Standard.
