Rate of penetration(ROP) of a tunnel boring machine(TBM) in a rock environment is generally a key parameter for the successful accomplishment of a tunneling project. The objectives of this work are to compare the accuracy of prediction models employing partial least squares(PLS) regression and support vector machine(SVM) regression technique for modeling the penetration rate of TBM. To develop the proposed models, the database that is composed of intact rock properties including uniaxial compressive strength(UCS), Brazilian tensile strength(BTS), and peak slope index(PSI), and also rock mass properties including distance between planes of weakness(DPW) and the alpha angle(α) are input as dependent variables and the measured ROP is chosen as an independent variable. Two hundred sets of data are collected from Queens Water Tunnel and Karaj-Tehran water transfer tunnel TBM project. The accuracy of the prediction models is measured by the coefficient of determination(R2) and root mean squares error(RMSE) between predicted and observed yield employing 10-fold cross-validation schemes. The R2 and RMSE of prediction are 0.8183 and 0.1807 for SVMR method, and 0.9999 and 0.0011 for PLS method, respectively. Comparison between the values of statistical parameters reveals the superiority of the PLSR model over SVMR one.

Energetic outer radiation belt electron phase space density （PSD） evolution due to interaction with whistler-mode chorus at different L-shells is investigated by solving the diffusion equation including cross diffusion terms. It is found that the difference of diffusion rates for different L-shells occurs primarily at pitch angles 0°-50° and around 90°. In particular, diffusion rates for L = 6.5 are found to be 5-10 times larger than that for L = 3.5 at these pitch angles. In the presence of cross terms, PSD for - MeV electrons after 24h decreases by about 25, 12, 10 and 8 times at L = 3.5, 4.5, 5.5 and 6.5 near the loss cone, and increases by about 55, 45, 30 and 20 times at larger pitch angles, respectively. After 24 h, the ratios between - MeV electron PSDs from simulations without and with cross diffusion at L = 3.5, 4.5, 5.5 and 6.5 are about 350, 600, 800 and 800 near the loss cone, and become 5, 5.5, 6.5 and 8 at pitch angle 90°, respectively. These results demonstrate that neglect of cross diffusion generally results in the overestimate of PSD, and the cross diffusion plays a more significant role in the resonant interaction between chorus waves and outer radiation belt electrons at larger L.

The basic propagation properties of the silica and silicon subwavelength-diameter hollow wire waveguides have been investigated by comparison. It shows that the silica and silicon subwavelength-diameter hollow wire waveguides have some interesting properties, such as enhanced evanescent field in the cladding, enhanced intensity in the hollow core, and large waveguide dispersion. For the different confinement ability, the enhanced field in the hollow core and cladding of the silica subwavelength-diameter hollow wire is much stronger than that of the silicon one for the same size.

In recent years,there has been an increased interest among the researchers to propose new families of distributions to provide the best fit to lifetime data with monotonic(increasing,decreasing,constant)and non-monotonic(unimodal,modified unimodal,bathtub)hazard *** further carry this area of research and propose a new family of lifetime distributions called a new logarithmic family via the T-X family *** the proposed family,explicit expressions for some mathematical properties along with the estimation of parameters through Maximum likelihood method are discussed.A sub-model,called a new logarithmic Weibull distribution is taken *** proposed model is very flexible and can be used to model data with increasing,decreasing,modified unimodal or bathtub shaped hazard *** maximum likelihood estimators of the model parameters are *** assess the behavior of the maximum likelihood estimators,a comprehensive Monte Carlo simulation study has been carried ***,the potentiality of the new model is shown via analyzing two real data sets taken from reliability engineering and biomedical *** comparison of the proposed model is made with the other well-known competitors such as(i)the three parameters exponentiated Weibull and Marshall–Olkin Weibull distributions and(ii)a four-parameter beta Weibull *** practical applications show that the proposed model performs much better than the competitive models and can be used as a good candidate model to analyze data in engineering,medical sciences and other related fields.

As an aid in establishing an understanding on the electronic level, the influence of bismuth on the cohesion of nickelΣ5 (012) grain boundary was determined using the plane wave pseudopotential (PWPP) method with the generalized gradient approximation. Based on the Rice-Wang model, the total energy calculations show that Bi behaves as an embrittler of the Ni grain-boundary, which predicts the experimentally known behavior. The total charge density, and difference charge density of the grain boundary also demonstrats that the Bi atom forms weaker bonds with neighboring Ni atoms in the grain boundary region. Total density of states (DOS) show that there exists significant covalent bonding for the grain boundary system with Bi segregated which help to embrittle the grain boundary and the change that Ni local d-DOS is narrowed due to segregation of Bi is also beneficial for the decohesion.

Background and purpose The role of depression in the development and outcome of cardiometabolic diseases remains to be *** aimed to examine the extent to which depressive symptoms affect the transitions from healthy to diabetes,stroke,heart disease and subsequent all-cause mortality in a middle-aged and elderly European *** A total of 78212 individuals aged≥50 years from the Survey of health Ageing and Retirement in Europe were *** with any baseline cardiometabolic diseases including diabetes,stroke and heart disease were *** symptoms were measured by the Euro-Depression scale at *** were followed up to determine the occurrence of cardiometabolic diseases and all-cause *** used multistate models to estimate the transition-specific HRs and 95%CIs after adjustment of *** During 500711 person-years of follow-up,4742 participants developed diabetes,2173 had stroke,5487 developed heart disease and 7182 *** symptoms were significantly associated with transitions from healthy to diabetes(HR:1.12,95%CI:1.05 to 1.20),stroke(HR:1.31,95%CI:1.18 to 1.44),heart disease(HR:1.26,95%CI:1.18 to 1.34)and all-cause mortality(HR:1.41,95%CI:1.34 to 1.49).After cardiometabolic diseases,depressive symptoms were associated with the increased risk of all-cause mortality in patients with diabetes(HR:1.54,95%CI:1.25 to 1.89),patients who had stroke(HR:1.29,95%CI:1.03 to 1.61)and patients with heart disease(HR:1.21,95%CI:1.02 to 1.44).Conclusions Depressive symptoms increase the risk of diabetes,stroke and heart disease,and affect the risk of mortality after the onset of these cardiometabolic *** and treatment of depressive symptoms may have profound implications for the prevention and prognosis of cardiometabolic diseases.
