The oral and craniofacial region consists of various types of hard and soft tissues with the intricate *** the high prevalence of tissue defects in this specific region,it is highly desirable to enhance tissue regeneration through the development and use of engineered ***,the major component of tissue extracellular matrix,has come into the limelight in regenerative *** collagen has been widely used as an essential component in biomaterial engineering owing to its low immunogenicity,high biocompatibility,and convenient extraction procedures,there is a limited number of reviews on this specific clinic *** need for mechanical enhancement and functional engineering drives intensive efforts in collagen-based biomaterials concentrating on therapeutical outcomes and clinical translation in oral and craniofacial tissue ***,we highlighted the status quo of the design and applications of collagen-based biomaterials in oral and craniofacial tissue *** discussion expanded on the inspiration from the leather tanning process on modifications of collagen-based biomaterials and the prospects of multi-tissue reconstruction in this particular dynamic *** existing findings will lay a new foundation for the optimization of current collagen-based biomaterials for rebuilding oral and craniofacial tissues in the future.

Electroacupuncture at the Renzhong (DU 26) and Neiguan (PC 6) acupoints repairs the DNA of nervous tissue supplied by the middle cerebral artery in rats

This study compares the changes of DNA repair in brain tissue dominated by the middle cerebral artery after electroacupuncture at the acupoints of Renzhong （DU 26）, Neiguan （PC 6）, Quchi （LI 11） and Zusanli （ST 36） in rats. In the apurinic/apyrimidinic endonuclease DNA basic group reparative excision experiments, the apurinic/apyrimidinic endonuclease activity of brain tissue increased slightly after electroacupuncture in rats. In the DNA polymerase β （Pol β）experiments, the Pol β ac-tivity of brain tissue increased after electroacupuncture, especially at DU 26 and PC 6. In the DNA ligase experiments, the expression of DNA ligase 1 in brain tissue increased significantly after electroacupuncture. These findings demonstrate increased activity of apurinic/apyrimidinic en-donuclease, Pol β and DNA ligase 1 after electroacupuncture at DU 26 and PC 6. Also, DNA repair in brain tissue supplied by the middle cerebral artery is promoted after electroacupuncture at DU 26 and PC 6, which are more effective than the LI 11 and ST 36 acupoints .

Effective therapy options for pneumoconiosis are *** Chinese medicine(TCM)presents a favorable prospect in the treatment of pneumoconiosis.A pilot study on TCM syndrome differentiation can evaluate the clinical efficacy and safety of TCM and lay a foundation for further clinical research.A double-blind,randomized,and placebo-controlled trial was conducted for 24 weeks,in which 96 patients with pneumoconiosis were randomly divided into the control and treatment *** treatment was conducted for the two *** treatment group was treated with TCM syndrome differentiation,and the control group was treated with *** primary outcomes were the six-minute walking distance(6MWD)and the *** Respiratory Questionnaire(SGRQ)*** secondary outcomes were the modified British Medical Research Council Dyspnea Scale(mMRC),Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease Assessment Test(CAT),Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale(HADS),and pulmonary *** 83 patients from the 96 patients with pneumoconiosis finished the *** the primary outcome,compared with the control groups,the treatment group showed a significantly increased 6MWD(407.90 m vs.499.51 m;95%confidence interval(CI)47.25 to 135.97;P<0.001)and improved SGRQ total score(44.48 vs.25.67;95%CI 27.87 to 9.74;P<0.001).The treatment group also significantly improved compared with the control group on mMRC score(1.4 vs.0.74;95%CI 1.08 to 0.23;P=0.003),CAT score(18.40 vs.14.65;95%CI 7.07 to 0.43;P=0.027),and the total symptom score(7.90 vs.5.14;95%CI 4.40 to 1.12;P<0.001).No serious adverse events *** study showed that TCM syndrome differentiation and treatment had a favorable impact on the exercise endurance and quality of life of patients with pneumoconiosis.

Biomedical implants and devices for tissue engineering in clinics,mainly made of polymers and stiff metallic materials,require possibly secondary surgery or life-long *** metals for biomedical implants and devices exhibit huge potential to improve the prognosis of *** this work,we developed a new type of biodegradable binary zinc(Zn)alloys with 16 rare earth elements(REEs)including Sc,Y,La to Nd,and Sm to Lu,*** effects of REEs on the alloy microstructure,mechanical properties,corrosion behavior and in vitro and in vivo biocompatibility of Zn were systematically investigated using pure Zn as *** Zn-RE alloys generally exhibited improved mechanical properties,and biocompatibilities compared to pure Zn,especially the tensile strength and ductility of Zn-RE alloys were dramatically *** the Zn-RE alloys,different REEs presented enhancement effects at varied extent.Y,Ho and Lu were the three elements displaying greatest improvements in majority of alloys properties,while Eu,Gd and Dy exhibited least ***,the Zn-RE alloys were comparable with other Zn alloys and also exhibited superior properties to Mg-RE *** in vivo experiment using Zn-La,Zn-Ce,and Zn-Nd alloys as tibia bone implants in rabbit demonstrated the excellent tissue biocompatibility and much more obvious osseointegration than the pure Zn control *** work presented the significant potential of the developed Zn-RE binary alloys as novel degradable metal for biomedical implants and devices.

Atrial natriuretic peptide gene polymorphism is not associated with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy

Background Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy （HCM） is a primary autosomal dominant inheritant myocardial disease with heterogeneity in clinical manifestations, natural history and prognosis. Even carrying an identical gene mutation among family members, a va[iety of clinical phenotypes have been found in patients with HCM. Modifier genes may contribute to the diversity. The plasma levels of atrial natriuretic peptides （ANP） were found previously to be elevated in HCM. Our studies suggested that ANP gene promoter polymorphism is associated with left ventricular hypertrophy in hypertension. The present study aimed to determine whether the two SNPs in the ANP gene are associated with HCM Methods We determined the relationships between the ANP gene polymorphism and HCM in 262 HCM patients and 614 age- and sex-matched healthy individuals. All of the subjects were genotyped for -A2843G and A188G polymorphisms. Results The genotype frequency in the -A2843G and A188G polymorphisms of the ANP gene was not significantly different between the HCM patients and controls. The -A2843G and A188G polymorphisms were also not associated with clinical phenotype in cardiomyopathy patients. Conclusions The polymorphisms of the ANP gene are not associated with increasing risk of HCM or clinical phenotypes. The variations of the ANP gene may not serve as a genetic modifier for the development of HCM.

Chronic stress may disrupt the normal neurodevelopmental trajectory of the adolescent brain(especially the prefrontal cortex) and contribute to the pathophysiology of stress-related mental illnesses,but the underlying molecular mechanisms remain ***,we investigated how synaptic cell adhesion molecules(e.g.,nectin3)are involved in the effects of adolescent chronic stress on mouse medial prefrontal cortex(mPFC).Male C57BL/6N mice were subjected to chronic social instability stress from postnatal days 29 to *** week later,the mice exposed to chronic stress exhibited impaired social recognition and spatial working memory,simplified dendritic structure,and reduced spine density in the *** localization of nectin3 was also altered,and was significantly correlated with behavioral ***,knocking down mPFC nectin3 expression by adeno-associated virus in adolescent mice reproduced the stress-induced changes in behavior and mPFC *** results support the hypothesis that nectin3 is a potential mediator of the effects of adolescent chronic stress on prefrontal structural and functional abnormalities.
