Flow Reversal of Fully-Developed Mixed MHD Convection in Vertical Channels

The present analysis is concerned with flow reversal phenomena of the fully-developed laminar combined free and forced MHD convection in a vertical parallel-plate channel. The effect of viscous dissipation is taken into account. Flow reversal adjacent to the cold （or hot） wall is found to exist within the channel as Gr/Re is above （or below） a threshold value. Parameter zones for the occurrence of reversed flow are presented.

A PRELIMINARY VALIDATION STUDY OF THE SEASONAL FORECAST OF CCCMA MODEL OVER CHINA

In this study we validate the raw ensemble mean forecasts of the CCCma's GCM2 model against surface temperature and precipitation data obtained from 160 Chinese *** is found that despite the lagre biases,the model was able to produce seasonal anomalies that have properties that are reasonably close to those that are *** anomaly is the quantity of interest when forecasting seasonal climatic *** root mean squared difference(RMSD) between the forecast and observed anomaly leads us to be modestly optimistic about the prospects for using dynamical models to forecast the interannual variability of some meteorological elements. The correlation analysis of the forecast and observation also supports the result given by the RMSD analysis and provides a tool for identify the forecast confidence level in various regions,

Simulation of Precipitation in Monsoon Regions of China by CMIP3 Models

The output of 25 models used in the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project phase 3 (CMIP3) were evaluated,with a focus on summer precipitation in eastern China for the last 40 years of the 20th *** mod-els failed to reproduce rainfall associated with the East Asian summer monsoon (EASM),and hence the seasonal cycle in eastern China,but provided reasonable results in Southwest (SW) and Northeast China (NE).The simula-tions produced reasonable results for the Yangtze-Huai (YH) Basin area,although the Meiyu phenomenon was underestimated in *** typical regional phe-nomenon,a seasonal northward shift in the rain belt from early to late summer,was completely missed by most *** long-term climate trends in rainfall over eastern China were largely underestimated,and the ob-served geographical pattern of rainfall changes was not reproduced by most *** extremes were evaluated via parameters of fitted GEV (Generalized Ex-treme Values) *** annual extremes were grossly underestimated in the monsoon-dominated YH and SW regions,but reasonable values were calculated for the North China (NC) and NE *** results suggest a general failure to capture the dynamics of the EASM in current coupled climate ***,models with higher resolution tend to reproduce larger decadal trends and annual extremes of precipitation in the regions studied.

CpG island methylator phenotype in adenocarcinomas from the digestive tract:Methods,conclusions,and controversies

Over the last two decades, cancer-related alterations in DNA methylation that regulate transcription have been reported for a variety of tumors of the gastrointestinal tract. Due to its relevance for translational research, great emphasis has been placed on the analysis and molecular characterization of the CpG island methylator phenotype(CIMP), defined as widespread hypermethylation of CpG islands in clinically distinct subsets of cancer patients. Here, we present an overview of previous work in this field and also explore some open questions using crossplatform data for esophageal, gastric, and colorectal adenocarcinomas from The Cancer Genome Atlas. We provide a data-driven, pan-gastrointestinal stratification of individual samples based on CIMP status and we investigate correlations with oncogenic alterations, including somatic mutations and epigenetic silencing of tumor suppressor genes. Besides known events in CIMP such as BRAF V600 E mutation, CDKN2 A silencing or MLH1 inactivation, we discuss the potential role of emerging actors such as Wnt pathway deregulation through truncating mutations in RNF43 and epigenetic silencing of WIF1. Our results highlight the existence of molecular similarities that are superimposed over a larger backbone of tissue-specific features and can be exploited to reduce heterogeneity of response in clinical trials.

Background:Platinum chemotherapy (CT) remains the backbone of systemic therapy for patients with small-cell lung cancer (SCLC). The nucleotide excision repair (NER) pathway plays a central role in the repair of the DNA damage exerted by platinum agents. Alteration in this repair mechanism may affect patients' survival.Materials and Methods:We conducted a retrospective analysis of data from 38 patients with extensive disease (ED)-SCLC who underwent platinum-CT at the Clinical Oncology Unit, Careggi University Hospital, Florence (Italy), from 2015 to 2020. mRNA expression analysis and single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) characterization of three NER pathway genes-namely , , and -were performed on patient tumor samples.Results:Overall, elevated expression of genes was observed in SCLC patients compared to healthy controls. Patients with low and expression levels exhibited a better median progression-free survival (mPFS = 7.1 . 4.9 months, = 0.39 for and mPFS = 6.9 . 4.8 months, = 0.093 for ) and overall survival (mOS = 8.7 . 6.0 months, = 0.4 for and mOS = 7.2 . 6.2 months, = 0.13 for ). Genotyping analysis of five SNPs of genes showed a longer survival in patients harboring the wild-type genotype or the heterozygous variant of the rs11615 SNP ( = 0.24 for PFS and = 0.14 for OS) and of the rs13181 and rs1799793 SNPs ( = 0.43 and = 0.26 for PFS and = 0.21 and = 0.16 for OS, respectively) compared to patients with homozygous mutant genotypes.Conclusions:The comprehensive analysis of gene expression and SNP variants appears to identify patients who derive greater survival benefits from platinum-CT.

analysis of Isentropic Potential Vorticity for a Strong Cold Wave During 2004/2005 Winter

Using the NCAR/NCEP daily reanalysis data from 1 December 2004 to 28 February 2005, the isentropic potential vorticity （IPV） analysis of a strong cold wave from 22 December 2004 to 1 January 2005 was made. It is found that the strong cold air of the cold wave originated from the lower stratosphere and upper troposphere of the high latitude in the Eurasian continent and the Arctic area. Before the outbreak of the cold wave, the strong cold air of high PV propagated down to the south of Lake Baikal, and was cut off by a low PV air of low latitude origin, forming a dipole-type circulation pattern with the low PV center （blocking high） in the northern Eurasian continent and the high PV one （low vortex） in the southern part. Along with decaying of the low PV center, the high PV center （strong cold air） moved towards the southeast along the northern flank of the Tibetan Plateau. When it arrived in East China, the air column of high PV rapidly stretched downward, leading to increase in its cyclonic vorticity, which made the East Asian major trough to deepen rapidly, and finally induced the outbreak of the cold wave. Further analysis indicates that in the southward and downward propagation process of the high PV center, the air flow west and north of the high PV center on isentropic surface subsided along the isentropic surface, resulting in rapid development of Siberian high, finally leading to the southward outbreak of the strong cold wave.

Equatorial Plasma Bubbles(EPBs)are ionospheric irregularities that take place near the magnetic *** most commonly occur after sunset during the equinox months,although they can also be observed during other *** phenomenon significantly disrupts radio wave signals essential to communication and navigation *** national network of Global Navigation Satellite System(GNSS)receivers in Indonesia(>30°longitudinal range)provides an opportunity for detailed EPB *** explore this,we conducted preliminary 3D tomography of total electron content(TEC)data captured by GNSS receivers following a geomagnetic storm on December 3,2023,when at least four EPB clusters occurred in the Southeast Asian *** and extracted TEC depletion with a 120-minute running average were then used as inputs for a 3D tomography *** 2D spatial distribution consistently captured the four EPB clusters over *** tomography results were validated through a classical checkerboard test and comparisons with other ionospheric data sources,such as the Global Ionospheric Map(GIM)and International Reference Ionosphere(IRI)*** of the results demonstrates the capability of the Indonesian GNSS network to measure peak ionospheric *** findings highlight the potential for future three-dimensional research of plasma bubbles in low-latitude regions using existing GNSS networks,with extensive longitudinal coverage.

In this paper we try to extract stable components in the extended-range forecast for the coming 10–30 days by using empirical orthogonal function （EOF） analysis, similarity coefficient, and some other methods based on the National Center for Environmental Prediction （NCEP）/National Center for Atmospheric Research （NCAR） reanalysis daily data. The comparisons of the coefficient of variance of climatological background field and truth data in winter between 2010 and 2011 are made. The method of extracting stable components and climatological background field can be helpful to increase forecasting skill. The forecasting skill improvement of air temperature is better than geopotential height at 500 hPa. Moreover, this method improves the predictability better in the Pacific Ocean. In China, the forecast in winter in Northeast China is more uncertain than in the other parts.
