Maximum power point tracking(MPPT)is a technique employed for with variable-power sources,such as solar,wind,and ocean,to maximize energy extraction under all *** commonly used perturb and observe(P&O)and inc.emental conductance(inc.methods have advantages such as ease of implementation,but they also have the challenge of selecting the most optimized perturbation step or inc.ement size while considering the trade-off between convergence time and *** address these issues,an MPPT solution for grid-connected photovoltaic(PV)systems is proposed that combines the golden section search(GSS),P&O,and inc.methods to simultaneously achieve faster convergence and smaller oscillation,converging to the MPP by repeatedly narrowing the width of the interval at the rate of the golden *** proposed MPPT technique was applied to a PV system consisting of a PV array,boost chopper,and *** and experimental results verify the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed MPPT technique,by which the system is able to locate the MPP in 36 ms and regain a drifting MPP in approximately 30 ms under transient *** overall MPPT efficiency is 98.99%.

Epi-up and epi-down bonding of high power 980nm lasers have been studied in terms of bonding process, thermal behavior, optical performances, thermal stress effects and long-term laser reliability. We demonstrated that epi-down bonding can offer lower thermal resistance and improved optical performances without significantly degrading the long-term laser reliability.

Geophysical data sets are growing at an ever-inc.easing rate,requiring computationally efficient data selection （thinning） methods to preserve essential ***,such as WindSat,provide large data sets for assessing the accuracy and computational efficiency of data selection techniques.A new data thinning technique,based on support vector regression （SVR）,is developed and *** manage large on-line satellite data streams,observations from WindSat are formed into subsets by Voronoi tessellation and then each is thinned by SVR （TSVR）.Three experiments are *** first confirms the viability of TSVR for a relatively small sample,comparing it to several commonly used data thinning methods （random selection,averaging and Barnes filtering）,producing a 10％ thinning rate （90％ data reduction）,low mean absolute errors （MAE） and large correlations with the original data.A second experiment,using a larger dataset,shows TSVR retrievals with MAE ＜ 1 m s-1 and correlations ≥ *** was an order of magnitude faster than the commonly used thinning methods.A third experiment applies a two-stage pipeline to TSVR,to accommodate online *** pipeline subsets reconstruct the wind field with the same accuracy as the second experiment,is an order of magnitude faster than the nonpipeline ***,pipeline TSVR is two orders of magnitude faster than commonly used thinning methods that ingest the entire data *** study demonstrates that TSVR pipeline thinning is an accurate and computationally efficient alternative to commonly used data selection techniques.

Using a 1-MWe slipstream pilot plant,solid-sorbent-based post-combustion CO_(2) capture was tested at a coal-fired power *** from pilot testing were used to develop a preliminary full-scale commercial *** sorbent selected for pilot-scale evaluation during this project consisted of an ion-exchange resin that inc.rporated amines covalently bonded to the substrate.A unique temperature-swing-absorption(TSA)process was developed that inc.rporated a three-stage fluidized-bed adsorber integrated with a single-stage fluidized-bed ***,following start-up and commissioning challenges that are often associated with first-of-a-kind pilots,the pilot plant operated as designed and expected,with a few key *** two primary exceptions were associated with:(i)handling characteristics of the sorbent,which were sufficiently different at operating temperature than at ambient temperature when design specifications were established with lab-scale testing;and(ii)CO_(2) adsorption in the transport line between the regenerator and adsorber that preloaded the sorbent with CO_(2) prior to entering the *** from the pilot programme demonstrate that solid-sorbent-based post-combustion capture can be utilized to achieve 90%CO_(2) capture from coal-fired power plants.

Post-combustion CO_(2)capture followed by sequestration is one of the only feasible means to significantly reduce CO_(2)emissions from existing fossil-fuel-fired power *** paper is Part 1 of a two-part paper highlighting key results from a project sponsored by the US Department of Energy and supported by industrial groups with the objective of demonstrating the viability of solid sorbents for CO_(2)*** overall objective of the effort was to validate solid sorbent-based post-combustion CO_(2)capture through slipstream pilot testing at a coal-fired power plant using a temperature-swing adsorption *** Part 1 of this work,the results from laboratory characterization of the sorbent selected for the pilot-scale demonstration are presented.A great deal of research related to sorbent development and evaluation has occurred to date but,for the most part,these promising materials have yet to be paired with a feasible process and demonstrated at the pilot *** sorbent selected for pilot-scale evaluation under this project consisted of an ion-exchange resin that inc.rporated amines that were covalently bonded to the *** the sorbent characterization portion of this work,the sorbent was characterized by a range of methods intended to provide information to support the design and operation of the pilot-scale CO_(2)-capture process,inc.uding equilibrium adsorption isotherms,adsorption and regeneration kinetics,impact of moisture and oxygen on CO_(2)working capacity,sorbent thermal properties,sorbent strength and attrition,and optimum particle-size *** paper reports results from sorbent characterization testing and how these characteristics influenced the type and size of the CO_(2)-capture process *** Part 2 of this work,results from tests of 1-MWe pilot-scale process equipment loaded with the sorbent described in Part 1 will be presented and analysed.

A12-Bit 40-MS/s pipelined analog-to-digital converter （ADC） inc.rporates a front-end RC constant matching technique and a set of front-end timing with different duty cycle that are beneficial for enhancing linearity in SHA-less architecture without tedious verification in back-end layout simulation. Employing SHA-less, opampsharing and low-power opamps for low dissipation and low cost, designed in 0.13μm CMOS technology, the prototype digitizes a 10.2-MHz input with 78.2-dB of spurious free dynamic range, 60.5-dB of signal-to-noise- and-distortion ratio, and -75.5-dB of total harmonic distortion （the first 5 harmonics inc.uded） while consuming 15.6-mW from a 1.2-V supply.

Calendar is an important driving factor of electricity demand. Therefore, many load forecasting models would inc.rporate calendar information. Frequently used calendar variables inc.ude hours of a day, days of a week,months of a year, and so forth. During the past several decades, a widely-used calendar in load forecasting is the Gregorian calendar from the ancient Rome, which dissects a year into 12 months based on the Moon's orbit around the Earth. The applications of alternative calendars have rarely been reported in the load forecasting literature. This paper aims at discovering better means than Gregorian calendar to categorize days of a year for load *** alternative is the solar-term calendar, which divides the days of a year into 24 terms based on the Sun's position in the zodiac. It was originally from the ancient China to guide people for their agriculture activities. This paper proposes a novel method to model the seasonal change for load forecasting by inc.rporating the 24 solar terms in regression analysis. The case study is conducted for the eight load zones and the system total of ISO New *** from both cross-validation and sliding simulationshow that the forecast based on the 24 solar terms is more accurate than its counterpart based on the Gregorian calendar.
