Downregulation of Astrocyte Elevated Gene-1 Expression Combined with All-Trans Retinoic Acid Inhibits Development of Vasculogenic Mimicry and Angiogenesis in Glioma

Comparative study between intramedullary interlocking nailing and minimally invasive percutaneous plate osteosynthesis for distal tibia extra-articular fractures

Purpose:Treatment of distal tibia fractures poses significant challenge to orthopedic surgeon because of poor blood supply and paucity of soft tissue *** is considerable controversy regarding the superior option of treatment for distal tibia fracture between the minimally invasive percutaneous plate osteosynthesis(MIPPO)technique and intramedullary interlocking(IMIL)nailing for extra-articular distal tibia *** aim of our study is to compare the functional outcome between the two treatment ***:This was the prospective comparative study of 100 patients with distal third tibia fractures divided into two *** first group of patients were treated with MIPPO technique while the second group of patients were managed by IMIL *** were followed up in outpatient department to assess the functional outcomes,malunion,delayed union,nonunion,superficial and deep infection between the two *** analyses were performed using the SPSS software(version 16.0).Results:Average malunion(degrees)in the MIPPO group was 5(3—7)±1.41 vs.10.22(8—14)±2.04 in the IMIL group(p=0.001).Similarly postoperative knee pain in the IMIL group was 10%vs.2%in the MIPPO group(p=0.001).In terms of superficial infection and nonunion,the results were 8%vs.4%and 2%vs.6%for the MIPPO and IMIL group,respectively(p=0.001).Conclusion:Both procedures have shown the reliable method of fixation for distal extra-articular tibia fractures preserving the soft tissue,bony vascularity and fracture hematoma that provide a favourable biological environment for fracture *** the results of the study,we have slightly more preference for the MIPPO technique.

The global increase in the prevalence of type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM)and its complications presents significant challenges to public ***,periodontal disease(PD)was recognized as a factor that is likely to influence the progression of T2DM and its complications due to its potential to exacerbate systemic inflammation and oxidative *** this editorial,we comment on the article published by Thazhe Poyil et al in the very recent issue of the World Journal of Diabetes in 2024,which investigated the correlation between PD and diabetic retinopathy(DR)in T2DM patients,with emphasis on the association between periodontal swollen surface area,glycated hemoglobin(HbA1c),interleukin-6(IL-6),and lipoprotein(a).The findings by Thazhe Poyil et al are significant as they demonstrate a strong link between PD and DR in T2DM *** correlation highlights the importance of addressing periodontal health in diabetes management to potentially reduce the risk and severity of DR,a complication of *** integration of periodontal evaluation and treatment into diabetes care protocols may lead to improved glycemic control and better overall outcomes for T2DM patients.A few studies have established an interconnection between PD and diabetic complication,specifically DR,in T2DM patients,which we aim to highlight in this *** was placed on the different mechanisms that suggest a bidirectional relationship between PD and T2DM,where the presence of periodontal inflammation negatively influenced glycemic control and contributed to the development and progression of DR through shared inflammatory and vascular *** article highlights the importance of collaboration amongst diabetes specialists,ophthalmologists,periodontists,and public health professionals to advance the prevention,early detection,and treatment of PD and *** will improve the health and quality of life of T2DM ***,the editorial highlights the need for further re

Aim: To investigate depression, anxiety, PTSD, and insomnia levels among Sudanese citizens after a year has passed since the start of Armed Forces conflict in Sudan. Methods: An online survey was distributed. It is composed of five parts, covering the following areas: 1) sociodemographic data;2) depression assessment;3) generalized anxiety disorder assessment;4) post-traumatic stress disorder assessment;and 5) insomnia assessment. Statistical Package for Social Sciences version 27 was used for data analysis;frequency and percentage were used to describe the qualitative variables. Spearman’s correlation analysis and Chi-square test were used for correlation and association analysis;a P-value equal to or less than 0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: The study included 283 participants, primarily female (76.0%), with a mean age of 35.26 ± 6.96 years. The majority of participants were married (50.5%) and had a university level of education (50.2%). At the start of the war, 70.3% of participants were inside the war zones, and at the time of data collection, 73.5% were outside Sudan. The length of stay in the war zone ranged from 1 to 300 days, with a mean of 48.59 ± 70.284 days. Additionally, 63.3% of participants stated that they did not receive any form of mental health intervention, and the remaining did not provide an answer. There was a high prevalence of moderate-severe depression (50.5%), moderate anxiety (35.3%), PTSD (56.5%), and sub-threshold insomnia (53.4%) among the participants. Correlation analyses revealed associations between demographic factors such as sex, age, marital status, and education and mental health issues. Notably, female participants showed a higher prevalence of PTSD (53.0%) compared to male participants (67.6%). Group Decision-Making Model of Renal Cancer Surgery Options Using Entropy Fuzzy Element Aczel-Alsina Weighted Aggregation Operators under the Environment of Fuzzy Multi-Sets

Since existing selection methods of surgical treatment schemes of renal cancer patients mainly depend on physicians’clinical experience and judgments,the surgical treatment options of renal cancer patients lack their scientifical and reasonable information expression and group decision-making model for renal cancer *** multi-sets(FMSs)have a number of properties,which make them suitable for expressing the uncertain information of medical diagnoses and treatments in group decision-making(GDM)*** choose the most appropriate surgical treatment scheme for a patient with localized renal cell carcinoma(RCC)(T1 stage kidney tumor),this article needs to develop an effective GDM model based on the fuzzy multivalued evaluation information of the renal cancer ***,we propose a conversionmethod of transforming FMSs into entropy fuzzy sets(EFSs)based on the mean and Shannon entropy of a fuzzy sequence in FMS to reasonably simplify the information expression and operations of FMSs and define the score function of an entropy fuzzy element(EFE)for ranking ***,we present the Aczel-Alsina t-norm and t-conorm operations of EFEs and the EFE Aczel-Alsina weighted arithmetic averaging(EFEAAWAA)and EFE Aczel-Alsina weighted geometric averaging(EFEAAWGA)***,we develop a multicriteria GDM model of renal cancer surgery options in the setting of ***,the proposed GDM model is applied to two clinical cases of renal cancer patients to choose the best surgical treatment scheme for a renal cancer patient in the setting of *** selected results of two clinical cases verify the efficiency and rationality of the proposed GDM model in the setting of FMSs.

Diagnosis of primary clear cell carcinoma of the liver based on Faster region-based convolutional neural network

Background:Distinguishing between primary clear cell carcinoma of the liver(PCCCL)and common hepatocellular carcinoma(CHCC)through traditional inspection methods before the operation is *** study aimed to establish a Faster region-based convolutional neural network(RCNN)model for the accurate differential diagnosis of PCCCL and ***:In this study,we collected the data of 62 patients with PCCCL and 1079 patients with CHCC in Beijing YouAn hospital from June 2012 to May 2020.A total of 109 patients with CHCC and 42 patients with PCCCL were randomly divided into the training validation set and the test set in a ratio of 4:*** Faster RCNN was used for deep learning of patients’data in the training validation set,and established a convolutional neural network model to distinguish PCCCL and *** accuracy,average precision,and the recall of the model for diagnosing PCCCL and CHCC were used to evaluate the detection performance of the Faster RCNN ***:A total of 4392 images of 121 patients(1032 images of 33 patients with PCCCL and 3360 images of 88 patients with CHCC)were uesd in test set for deep learning and establishing the model,and 1072 images of 30 patients(320 images of nine patients with PCCCL and 752 images of 21 patients with CHCC)were used to test the *** accuracy of the model for accurately diagnosing PCCCL and CHCC was 0.962(95%confidence interval[CI]:0.931-0.992).The average precision of the model for diagnosing PCCCL was 0.908(95%CI:0.823-0.993)and that for diagnosing CHCC was 0.907(95%CI:0.823-0.993).The recall of the model for diagnosing PCCCL was 0.951(95%CI:0.916-0.985)and that for diagnosing CHCC was 0.960(95%CI:0.854-0.962).The time to make a diagnosis using the model took an average of 4 s for each ***:The Faster RCNN model can accurately distinguish PCCCL and *** model could be important for clinicians to make appropriate treatment plans for patients with PCCCL or CHCC.

Diffuse Backscattering Mueller Matrices Patterns from Turbid Media

We present experimental measurements and theory of the diffusely backscattered Mueller matrix patterns that arise from illuminating a turbid medium with a polarized laser beam. Our technique employs polarized light from a He-Ne laser （λ = 632.8 nm） focused onto the surface of the scattering medium. A surface area of approximately 2 × 2 cm^2 centred on the light input point is imaged through polarization analysis optics onto a CCD camera. The Mueller matrix is reconstructed by 49 intensity measurements with various orientations of polarizer and analyser. The measured Mueller matrix of polystyrene spheres is compared with the theory result of incoherent scattering of light by spheres. It shows that the azimuthal patterns of the Mueller matrix are determined by the symmetry of the turbid media and the shape of scattering particles. The result is further proved by experiments with polystyrene spheres of different concentrations in de-ionized water.
