Assay of ghrelin concentration in infant formulas and breast milk

AIM: To test if total ghrelin is present in infant formulas. METHODS: Using a radioimmunoassay, we measured total ghrelin concentrations in 19 samples of commercial infant formulas and in 20 samples of human milk. We also determined ghrelin concentration in the serum of infants and lactating mothers. RESULTS: Ghrelin concentrations were significantly higher in artificial milk (2007.1 ± 1725.36 pg/mL) than in human milk (828.17 ± 323.32 pg/mL) (P = 0.005). The mean ghrelin concentration in infant serum (n = 56) was 1115.86 ± 42.89 pg/mL, and was significantly higher (P = 0.023) in formula-fed infants (1247.93 ± 328.07 pg/mL) than in breast-fed infants (1045.7 ± 263.38 pg/mL). The mean serum ghrelin concentration (mean ± SD) in lactating mothers (n = 20) was 1319.18 ± 140.18 pg/mL. CONCLUSION: This study provides evidence that total ghrelin is present in infant formulas. This findingraises diverse questions regarding the uptake, absorption and metabolic effects of this hormone.

Three-way decision(T-WD)theory is about thinking,problem solving,and computing in *** decision making(BDM)focuses on effective,cognitive,and social processes employed by humans for choosing the optimal object,of which prospect theory and regret theory are two widely used *** hesitant fuzzy set(HFS)captures a series of uncertainties when it is difficult to specify precise fuzzy membership *** by the principles of three-way decisions as thinking in threes and integrating these three topics together,this paper reviews and examines advances in three-way behavioral decision making(TW-BDM)with hesitant fuzzy information systems(HFIS)from the perspective of the past,present,and ***,we provide a brief historical account of the three topics and present basic ***,we summarize the latest development trends and examine a number of basic issues,such as one-sidedness of reference points and subjective randomness for result values,and then report the results of a comparative analysis of existing ***,we point out key challenges and future research directions.

Gastro-entero-pancreatic (GEP) neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) are rare neoplasms, although their prevalence has increased substantially over the past three decades. Moreover, there has been an increased clinical recognition and characterization of these neoplasms. They show extremely variable biological behavior and clinical course. Most NETs have endocrine function and secrete peptides and neuroamines that cause distinct clinical syndromes, including carcinoid syndrome; however, many are clinically silent until late presentation with mass effects. Investigation and management should be individualized for each patient, taking into account the likely natural history of the tumor and general health of the patient. Management strategies include surgery for cure or palliation, and a variety of other cytoreductive techniques, and medical treatment including chemotherapy, and biotherapy to control symptoms due to hormone release and tumor growth, with somatostatin analogues (SSAs) and alphainterferon. New biological agents and somatostatintagged radionuclides are under investigation. Advances in the therapy and development of centers of excellence which coordinate multicenter studies, are needed to improve diagnosis, treatment and therefore survival of patients with GEP NETs.

This work investigates the effect of chemical structural positioning of different functional groups in 29 amines covering primary,secondary and tertiary alkanolamines as well as multi-alkylamines and cyclic amines on both amine degradation and ammonia(NH_(3))emissions during post-combustion amine-based carbon dioxide *** results helped to elucidate possible relation-ships between degradation and emissions as related to the chemical structure of the *** results showed that longer alkyl chain lengths in multi-alkylamines caused a more drastic decrease in both degradation and NH_(3) emissions followed by secondary *** decrease in those activities for primary and tertiary alkanolamines as well as cyclic amines was low and more so for NH_(3) *** contrast,the increase in hydroxyl groups in secondary alkanolamines caused a drastic increase in degrad-ation and NH_(3) *** the other hand,having more hydroxyl groups in sterically hindered primary and tertiary alkanolamines caused a more drastic decrease in degradation and a smaller decrease in NH_(3) emissions due to the steric hindrance within their *** increase in the number of amino groups in an amine caused an increase in both degradation and NH_(3) emission rates because these provided the reactive sites for the formation of free *** effect was not as large in alkyl-cyclic amines as in multi-alkylamines due to the ability of the former to resist oxidative ***,branched alkyl groups between amino and hydroxyl groups more drastically increased both the degradation and NH_(3) emission activities than branched alkyl groups located at the nitrogen atom.

Phase Behaviour and Physical Properties of Alkane Solvent（s）/CO2/N2/DME/Water/Heavy Oil Systems under Reservoir Conditions

The hybrid steam-solvent injection has been considered as a promising technique for enhancing heavy oil/bitumen recov‐ery,while its main mechanisms including the heat transferred and dissolution of solvents (e.g.,CH4,C2H6,C3H8,C4H10,CO2,N2,and DME) into heavy oil/bitumen to reduce its viscosity and swell it are closely related to the phase behaviour of the solvents/water/heavy oil *** allow the seamless integration with the existing reservoir simulators,the traditional cubic equations of state （i.e.,SRK EOS and PR EOS） have been modified and improved to accurately quantify the phase behaviour and physical prop‐erties of the aforementioned systems under equilibrium and nonequilibrium ***,a huge database has been built to de‐velop the corresponding alpha functions by minimizing the deviation between the measured and calculated vapour pressures for wa‐ter as well as non-hydrocarbon and hydrocarbon compounds available from the public *** obtained alpha functions are fur‐ther validated with enthalpy of vaporization for pure substances,and then the reduced temperature has been optimized and the ec‐centric factor has been ***,a pressure-implicit strategy has been developed to optimize the binary interaction param‐eters （BIPs） by treating heavy oil as one pseudocomponent （PC） or multiple ***,the contributions of each solvent to the aforementioned systems have been compared and analyzed within a consistent and unified *** addition to new alpha func‐tions for hydrocarbons and water,respectively,the reduced temperature is found to have its optimum value of 0.59 for the two equa‐tions of state （EOSs）,while 0.60 is recommended for practical *** improved EOSs have been further employed to reproduce the experimentally measured multiphase boundaries （or pseudo-bubble-point pressures）,density,viscosity,（mutual） solubility,and preferential mass transfer for the aforementioned mixtures under equilibrium and nonequilibrium

While there has been significant scholarly attention to the Showtime Series Dexter （2006-13） and the fundamental choice between being good or evil that its protagonist Dexter Morgan must make, this article advances scholarship in three ways. Firstly, it examines Dexter＇s final twist in plot and the decision Dexter makes to finally embrace his ＂dark passenger＂ to argue for the necessity of the plot twist to the series, which scholarship has not yet performed. Secondly, by situating Dexter＇s decision within a framework focused on reproductive futurism, a revised and more nuanced approach to Dexter＇s ontological dilemma can be proffered. Finally, by locating Dexter＇s dark passenger within the theoretical frames of reproductive futurism and community this article adds an important dimension to notions of the monster conventionally rooted in theories of identity and subjectivity. In the final moments of the series everything changes for Dexter as his identity is redeemed for a reproductive future without guarantees, which this article argues is germane to considerations ofbiopolitics and community in the contemporary period.

Surfactant foam stability gets a lot of interest while posing a significant obstacle to many industrial *** of the viable solutions for addressing gas mobility concerns and boosting reservoir fluid sweep efficiency during solvent-based enhanced heavy oil recovery processes is foam *** synergistic effect of nanoparticles and surfactants in a porous reservoir media can help create a more durable and sturdier *** study aims to see how well a combination of the nanoparticles(NPs)and surfactant can generate foam for controlling gas mobility and improving oil *** research looked at the effects of silicon and aluminum oxide nanoparticles on the bulk and dynamic stability of sodium dodecyl surfactant(SDS)-foam in the presence and absence of *** foam height,liquid drainage,half-decay life,nanoparticle deposition,and bubble size distribution of the generated foams with time were used to assess static foam stability in the bulk phase,while dynamic stability was studied in the *** understand the processes of foam stabilization by nanoparticles,the microscopic images of foam and the shape of bubbles were *** nanoparticles were applied in foamability testing in bulk and dynamic phase,the foam generation and stability were improved by 23%and 17%,*** comparison to surfactant alone,adding nanoparticles to surfactant solutions leads to a more significant pressure drop of 17.34 psi for SiO_(2)and 14.86 psi for Al_(2)O_(3)NPs and,as a result,a higher reduction in gas mobility which ultimately assists in enhancing oil recovery.
