Gender differences in systemic inflammatory and nutritional index following radical surgery for advanced gastric cancer

Objective:Albumin-globulin ratio(AGR),prognostic nutritional index(PNI),and platelet to-lymphocyte ratio(PLR)have been validated as prognostic factors for gastric cancer(GC).However,significant gender differences exist in albumin levels and inflammatory cell counts,and further research is required to understand how these differences influence GC *** study aims to investigate the prognostic impact of nutritional and inflammatory indicators on GC patients undergoing radical surgery,as well as the influence of gender on these indicators’prognostic ***:The study included 596 patients with advanced GC hospitalized in the Department of Gastrointestinal Surgery,General Surgery,Xiangya Hospital of Central South university from January 2012 to December *** operating characteristic(ROC)analysis was performed to determine cutoff values for nutritional and inflammatory *** analysis was used to identify factors significantly affecting survival in GC patients,while multivariate and Kaplan-Meier analyses determined independent prognostic factors for ***:Multivariate analysis revealed that postsurgical tumor node metastasis(pTNM)stage[stage II:hazard ratio(HR)=3.284,P=0.012;stage III:HR:8.062,P<0.001],low preoperative AGR(HR=1.499,P=0.012),and postoperative PNI(HR=1.503,P=0.008)were risk factors for overall survival in male patients after radical GC *** female patients,pN2-3(HR=3.185,P<0.001),total gastrectomy(HR=2.286,P=0.004),low preoperative PLR(HR=1.702,P=0.027),and postoperative PNI(HR=1.943,P=0.011)were identified as risk factors for overall ***:Postoperative PNI is an independent risk factor for all advanced GC *** PLR is an independent prognostic factor only for female patients,while preoperative AGR is an independent prognostic factor only for male *** research is warranted to investigate the gender-specific differences in GC prognosis.

Polysaccharides from Chinese herbal medicine:a review on the hepatoprotective and molecular mechanism

Sketch based garment modeling on an arbitrary view of a 3D virtual human model

This paper presents a new approach for modeling a virtual garment intuitively and simply by sketching garment style *** user sketches directly onto the surface of 3D virtual human from arbitrary viewing directions,and the 3D garment suited to the virtual human can be created ***,a distance field based allocation algorithm is proposed to find the 3D point which has the shortest given distance to the virtual human along the view ***,the 3D style lines are generated by transforming from the 2D strokes on the human model and all the garment pieces are recognized from the 3D style ***,the 3D garment model is constructed by using the angle and offset based interpolation and Delaunay *** addition,we propose a body feature based template reusing method to fit the 3D garment to different virtual human *** method can be adapted to designer habits and improve the usefulness of garment *** show that the method is useful and efficient.

Recycled steel fiber reinforced concrete is an innovative construction material that offers exceptional mechanical properties and *** is considered a sustainable material due to its low carbon footprint and environmental friendly *** study examines the key influencing factors that affect the behavior of this material,such as the steel fiber volume ratio,recycled aggregate replacement rate,concrete strength grade,anchorage length,and stirrup *** study investigates the bond failure morphology,bond-slip,and bond strength constitutive relationship of steel fiber recycled *** results show that the addition of steel fibers at 0.5%,1.0%,and 1.5%volume ratios can improve the ultimate bond strength of pull-out specimens by 9.05%,6.94%,and 5.52%,*** replacement rate of recycled aggregate has minimal effect on the typical bond strength of pull-out ***,the ultimate bond strengths of pull-out specimens with concrete strength grades C45 and C60 have improved compared to those with C30 *** specimens with longer anchorage lengths exhibit lower ultimate bond strength,with a reduction of 33.19%and 46.37%for anchorage lengths of 5D and 7D,respectively,compared to those without *** restraint of 1φ8 and 2φ8 improves the ultimate bond strength by 5.29%and 6.90%,*** fibers have a significant effect on the behavior of concrete after it cracks,especially during the stable expansion stage,crack instability expansion stage,and failure stage.

Factors influencing the effectiveness of using flash glucose monitoring on glycemic control for type 1 diabetes in Saudi Arabia

BACKGROUND In 2017,35000 Saudi children and adolescents were living with a type 1 diabetes(T1D)*** complications are minimized upon strengthened glycemic *** annual cost of treating diabetic patients with complications was four-fold higher than for patients without *** use of flash glucose monitoring(FGM)enables better diabetes treatment and thereby improves glycemic *** the factors that affect effectiveness of FGM will help enhance the device’s use and management of hospital resources,resulting in improved *** To investigate factors that affect effectiveness of the FGM system for glycated hemoglobin(HbA1c)levels/glycemic control among T1D *** A retrospective empirical analysis of T1D patient records from King Abdul-Aziz university Hospital and Prince Sultan Military Medical city was performed.T1D patients who began FGM between 2017 and 2019 were *** The data included 195 T1D patients(70 males and 125 females)with a mean age of 23.6±8.1 *** them,152 patients used multiple daily injection and 43 used an insulin *** difference in HbA1c level from baseline and after using FGM was-0.60±2.10,with a maximum of 4.70 and a minimum *** was a statistically significant negative correlation between the independent variables(age,duration of diabetes,level of engagement)and *** group with the highest HbA1c mean(9.85)was 18-years-old,while the group with the lowest HbA1c mean(7.87)was *** with a low level of engagement(less than six scans per day)had the highest HbA1c mean(9.84),whereas those with a high level of engagement(more than eight scans per day)had the lowest HbA1c mean(8.33).CONCLUSION With proper education,FGM can help people with uncontrolled T1D over the age of 18 years to control their glucose level.

Designing a spatial pattern to rebalance the orientation of development and protection in Wuhan

Patterns of spatial development and protection form a basic category of geoscience,and redesigning them is a popular subject of research in regional sustainable development that is important for ecological civilization *** authors here report a case study of Wuhan city using the circuit theory model and minimum cumulative resistance(MCR)model to rebalance its spatial protection and *** results show the following:(1)Using the density of the gross domestic product(GDP),density of population,rate of urbanization,and access to transportation as evaluation indicators,seven core areas of development in Wuhan were identified,accounting for 59%of the total number of streets,that exhibited a “circular-satellite”spatial structure.(2)According to the importance of ecosystem services,ecological sensitivity,land use type,and slope of the terrain,the resistance surface of spatial development in Wuhan had a stereoscopic spatial form of an“inverted pyramid,”with high surroundings and a low *** area of low resistance accounted for 6.64%of the total area of Wuhan.(3)Based on coupling analysis using the MCR and spatial morphological characteristics of current,nine axes of spatial development with a total area of 427.27 km2 and eight key strategic points with a total area of 40.02 km2 were *** that were prioritized for development accounted for 9.63%of Wuhan's total area.(4)By combining the characterization of the development axis with the structure of the three-level core area,we extracted the structure of spatial development of "one heart,two wings,and three belts" in *** research framework and empirical results can provide scientific guidance for the urban spatial layout,the development of regional linkages,and ecological environmental protection in China.

Improved electrochemical performances of polyaniline nanotubes-poly-L-lysine composite for label-free impedance detection of DNA hybridization

A sensitive label-free DNA hybridization biosensing platform was fabricated based on the synergistic effect of polyaniline nanotubes (PANInt) and poly-L-lysine (pLys).The composite of pLys and PANInt was coated onto the carbon paste electrode (CPE) to form a uniform and very stable nanocomposite *** pLys in the composite film not only acts as a membrane to retain good electron transfer capability of PANInt even at physiological pH,but also possesses fine biocompatibility for *** probes with negatively charged phosphate groups were readily linked to the positively charged pLys surface due to the strong electrostatic *** synergistic effect of PANInt and pLys could significantly enhance the sensitivity of DNA hybridization *** phosphinothricin acetyltransferase (PAT) gene fragment from transgenic corn and the polymerase chain reaction amplification of the terminator of nopaline synthase gene from the real sample of a kind of transgenic soybean were detected by this DNA electrochemical biosensor via label-free impedance *** stable composite gives convenient permselectivity properties as a transducer material for the design of modern electrochemical impedance biosensor using [Fe(CN)6]3-/4as an indicator.
